Chapter 7: The Kiss that led to a heart's confession


"Ready?" Yi Quan asked Kelsi as soon as he opened the car door for her. Kelsi smiled at Yi Quan and nodded her head before she got in. It was a few minutes drive to the carnival. As soon as they got in, Kelsi pulled Yi Quan to her favorite ride - bump car. "Come on!" she said as they ran towards the ticket booth. "You love riding to bump cars?" Yi Quan asked. He was amused at how playful and childish Kelsi seems to be. "Of course! Back home, me and my brother would ride bump cars whenever we could."

Yi Quan smiled as he followed her. They got on the bump car, and as the timer starts, they began to drive those toy cars. Kelsi always bumps into Yi Quan, and Yi Quan would take the opportunity to bump her car. After the bump car, they rode on the carousel. Then, they went to get some cotton candy.

As they were eating cotton candy, they saw the magician's booth at the other side. "Look, Quan! Let's go there!" Kelsi said. Yi Quan looked at her and smiled. There was a glow in Kelsi's eyes. Seeing Kelsi very happy makes him feel contented. Might as well accompany Kelsi at the magician's booth.

As soon as they reached the magician's booth, the magician began to show them his tricks. First, he made a bunny come out from his hat. Then, he changed the color of his handkerchief. Yi Quan was not paying attention to the magician, but instead, he was watching Kelsi as she watched the magician in awe. He loved seeing Kelsi that way...

"Do you love roses, lovely miss?" he heard the magician say. Kelsi nodded her head. "Yes, I love roses..." she answered. Then, the magician waved his wand onto his hat, and pulled out a solitary red rose. He then gave it to Kelsi. "I can do better than that!" Yi Quan said. Kelsi gave him a doubtful look. Yi Quan just smiled at her. "Watch me." Then, he went to the magician's booth. The magician stepped aside and watched Yi Quan as he performed his trick. He waved the wand onto the hat and mumbled a magic word that made Kelsi laugh.

After a while, he pulled out a bouquet of red roses from the hat. Kelsi was surprised. She never knew Yi Quan could do magic. Then, Yi Quan took the roses, and handed it to her. "I believe these roses are for you, lovely miss..." he said. Kelsi blushed as she took the roses. "Thank you..." she said in a low voice.

The two said their thanks to the magician, then headed to their next ride. As they were walking, an old gypsy approached them. "May I have the honor of reading your palms..." the old gypsy said. Kelsi looked at Yi Quan, awaiting his approval. "Why not..." Yi Quan told her. Then, they opened their palms as the old gypsy read it. "You know, I never volunteer to read palms, except when I see that something good would be coming... and I am right all along..." the old gypsy said as she traced her finger onto her hands. She looked up at them and smiled. "The two of you... you are lucky to have found the one God have prepared for you. It is rare for people to find the one meant for them... Once
you have it, never let it go for it will never ever come your way again..."

Kelsi smiled at the old gypsy. Deep inside, she was wishing that the old gypsy is talking about Quan. Quan wished the same. He hoped that this time, it's Kelsi.

"There would be some difficultied ahead... but as long as you believe in love, you'll get through it and you will live a happy life..." The gypsy continued. "Thank you, Ma'am..." Yi Quan said. He was about to pull his wallet to pay her, but the gypsy stopped him. "No need my dear... just promise me you will follow what I have said. That's the payment I would like."

Then, the gypsy left them. "Do you think what she said is true?" Kelsi asked. Yi Quan looked at her. "Maybe... maybe not..." he answered. "But I am wishing it is true..." he thought. Kelsi smiled at him, then began to pull him. "Come on, let's ride at the ferris wheel..."
"Ferris wheel?"
"Yeah, the ferris wheel..."

Yi Quan paused. He can't ride that. He's afraid of riding it. There was a time when he was young that he almost fell from that ride. "I... I'm sorry, I can't, Kelsi..." he said in a low voice. Kelsi gave him a confused look. "Why not?"
"I... I'm scared of riding ferris wheel... I almost fell from one when I was a kid..."

He thought Kelsi would laugh at his confession, but she just smiled at him and held his hand. "Here..." she said. "Let me hold your hand while we're at the ferris wheel so that you won't get scared anymore... I'm scared of heights, but you know what, sometimes we have to take the risk and face our fears. There's nothing to lose if we try right?" Yi Quan nodded his head. Kelsi's right. Maybe it's about time that he face his fear. And he wants to face it together with Kelsi...

They got in to the ferris wheel, and Yi Quan could feel his heart beating fast. He could feel his knees shake and the cold swaet running down his face. He was nervous and scared... after the ferris wheel incident when he was a kid, he swore never to ride in it again. Kelsi could feel his cold palm. She understands how scary this is for Yi Quan, for she was scared as well. She never rode a ferris wheel before for she was scared of heights. Kelsi looked at him and smiled, as she squeezes his hand, which she have been holding since they got it that ride.

"Don't be scared... if you fall then I'll fall with you." she said. Yi Quan just gave her a nervous laugh. Then, the ferriss wheel began to move up. Yi Quan felt as if he can't breath, and Kelsi could sense it. She squeezed his hand again and smiled at him, assuring Yi Quan's everything's going to be all right. "Just enjoy
the ride." she said. Yi Quan smiled back at him, and then he felt at ease.

After a few seconds, Yi Quan started to enjoy the ride. The ferris wheel turned around twice, and then once they were at the top, it stopped. This made Yi Quan uneasy again. "Relax... there's nothing to be scared of..." Kelsi said, sensing his uneasiness again. "B-but... but why did we stopped?" he asked nervously. He closed his eyes, afraid to see what's going to happen next. "Open your eyes Yi Quan, and you'll see..."

Slowly, Yi Quan opened his eyes. From the top, he could see all of Taipei. "Wow..." he blurted. "I... I never thought I could see the whole of Taipei from here!"
"Isn't this beatiful?"
Kelsi looked at her left, gazing at the wonders of the metropolis. Yi Quan looked at her where she is gazing, but his eye caught her lovely, smiling face. He stared at it for a long time, and smiled to himself. "Yes... it's beautiful... you are beautiful..." he said dreamily. His face moved closer to hers, and as she turned to Yi Quan, her lips brushed against his. She gave him a suprised look,
for she did not know how close he is to her. Yi Quan lovingly looked at her. He cupped her cheek, his face moving closer to hers again. He hesitated at first, but then, he closed his eyes, and put his lips against hers. As he kissed her, he let her know how he feels for her. He felt he could go on like this forever... he wanted so much to hold her in his arms, and never let her go.

He love her...

At that moment, he finally knew that he does love her. There's no more hesitations now. He thought after his heartbreak, he would not be capable of loving again, but Kelsi came and in an instant he saw him, he fell for her. He doesn't know what it is with her, but he felt at ease whenever he is with her. It's like all of his worries suddenly goes away whenever he's with her. .And he felt that Kelsi feel the same way for him. He could feel it in her kiss.

Suddenly, the ferris wheel began to move down. Both of them broke away from the kiss. He could see Kelsi's cheeks turn pink. Though the ride ended, he never let go of her hand. He have no plans of letting her go...

He drove Kelsi home, and along the way, both of them were quiet. As he drives, he would steal glances at her. He stopped his car, and then he held her hand again. Kelsi gave him a confused look. "We need to talk..." he began. Suddenly, Kelsi began to feel scared. The time that they almost kissed, he said he was sorry. She didn't want to hear those words from him. There's nothing to regret, and there's nothing to be sorry about. "Please don't say sorry Quan... please..."
"Kelsi..."
"I don't regret kissing you... it's the most beautiful thing that happened to me in my whole life..."
"And I don't regret kissing you, Kelsi... It's just that... I regret kissing you before telling you how I feel..."

He moved close to her, his hand cupped her cheeks. "I love you Kelsi... I do... don't ask my why or how but I really love you... please believe me..." he said. Kelsi smiled, but then, tears began to flow from her cheeks. She can't believe that her fantasy have finally turned to be a reality. Yi Quan... her prince charming... and of all the girls in the world, he chose her. "Did you know that you just made this day the happiest day of my life?" Kelsi said. "And this would be mine too... if you tell me that you love me too..." Yi Quan said. Kelsi just nodded her head. "Yes, I do love you, Yi Quan... I do..."

And with that, Yi Quan kissed her once again...

"Was I right to tell you to follow your heart? Then you wouldn't find the happiness you're feeling now..."
"Yes, you are right... but somehow I am scared... scared that one day... this will all go away...I'm scared that one day, he will realize that I am not wothry of him... and that he deserves better..."
"Trust in him, trust in his love... I know that he is your happiness... and I trust that you are his happiness as well..."

Silence.

"Then maybe, I can slowly slip away now that I see you're happy... I know you will be together for the rest of your life... I know... I just know..."
"Angel... don't say that..."
A smile formed into her lips. "This is the only reason why I asked God to give me more time... I just want to see you happy before I go... at least it would unburden me with the pain knowing I have hurt you because... because... I'll be leaving you... soon..."

Chapter 8: Guardian Angel


He turned to his side, and tried to close his eyes, but it seemed that he can'tsleep. He turned to his side again, but still, he couldn't sleep. He stood up from his bed and sighed... He was just with Kelsi a while ago, but he started missing her. It seems like agaes since he have heard her voice, and kissed her lips. He reached for his phone, then dialled her number.

One ring.
Two rings.
Three rings.

He was about to hang up when he finally heard her voice. He was not able to speak as soon as she heard her say hello. He smiled to himself as he listens to her voice. "Yi Quan?" she finally said. He blushed as she speaks his name. He felt like a school boy having a crush on his girl classmate. "Yes, I am here, Kelsi..." he finally said.

Kelsi smiled as he speaks. "Why are you still up this late? Don't you have to film your new series tomorrow?"
"Well... I can't sleep..."
"And why can't you sleep, Mr. Zuo?"
"I miss you..."

Kelsi pause, and smiled to herself again. She could feel her cheeks blush as he said that. "Didn't we just had dinner a while ago? And now you're starting to miss me?" she teased him. "Well, don't you miss me, Dr. Ramirez?" he asked. "Yes, I miss you too..."
"I bet you can't sleep as well..."
"How did you know?"
"I can feel it."

Sometimes, it makes him wonder how he could read her mind. It's as if whatever he feels, she feels as well. "Can you sing me a lullaby so that I can sleep?" he cooed. Kelsi gave a faint laugh upon hearing his request. "You're a big boy, Yi Quan... why do I have to sing you a lullaby?" she said. "Because I want you too!" he said in his most childish voice. "Pretty please? with sugar on top? Please, please, please?" He heard Kelsi gave out a sigh. Then, he heard her laugh again. "OK, ok... I'll sing to you, just this once.." she said, giving in to his request.

"That's beautiful..." Yi Quan said as soon as she ended the song. "Do you think I should have a duet with you in your next album?" she asked in between laugh. Yi Quan laughed as well. "That's a good one... I'll ask my manager if I could have a duet with my girlfriend on my next album... but I'm scared that once you become a star, all the guys will steal you from me."
"You don't have to worry about a thing, Quan... you know I only have my eyes on you..."

Quan then plopped into his bed. This is all he needed to have a goodnight sleep, and maybe this is all he need to start his day right tomorrow. "It's getting late, Quan... you better sleep now or you'll be late for tomorrow." Kelsi said. "Aye, aye captain... Wan an..."
"Wan an.."
"Kelsi..."
"Hmmm?"
"Wo... wo ai ni..."

Kelsi became silent upon hearing that. She smiled to herself, silently thanking God for giving her this chance with him. She was silently thanking whoever it is that gave Yi Quan to her. "Wo ai ni, Zou Yi Quan..." And that's all everything she needed to keep on going...

Yi Quan woke up the next day to find Ya Se, Xiao Yu and Xiu Yi in his pad. As usual, he found Xiu Yi by the kitchen, ready to raid his ref. "Good Morning, Quan!" Xiu Yi cheerfully said. "Hope you don't mind... Mei Ru let us in..." Quan just nodded his head, and left Xiu Yi to hog all of his food. Meanwhile, he found Ya Se and Xiao Yu by the living room. The two looked at each other before the latter stood up to join Xiu Yi at the kitchen. "What's up, bro?" Ya Se said as Quan joined him in the couch. "Nothing..."
"I can see you have some good night sleep, Quan..."
"You bet! By the way... why are you all here? Don't we have to film the series or-"
"They cancelled it. Technical problems."

Silence.

"Actually..." Ya Se began. "We came here because we want to talk to you about something..." Quan gave him a confused look. "Well... there's this news..."
"Ya Se..." Quan interrupted. "If it's about Ah Sa, I don't give a d**n about her."
"No, Quan. This is not about Ah Sa... it's about the girl that you're constantly dating..."

Yi Quan turned his gaze at the opposite direction. So the news about him and Kelsi is finally out. Sometimes he wonder, when can he have the joy of privacy. "Yi Quan, tell me... that girl... she's not a rebound for Ah Sa... right?" Ya Se asked. Quan looked at him. "Why are you asking?"
"I just want to know... I just want to know that there won't be complications with you and this girl... I just want to know that you won't hurt her... I want to know that you're not using her to forget Ah Sa..."

He paused. After Ya Se posed that question, he became unsure of his answer. He admits before he met Kelsi, Ah Sa was his life. His world revolved around her, to the point that he forgot himself. He have put her into a pedestal, only to find out that she will just break his heart. When Kelsi came to his life, it's like he immediately forgot all about Ah Sa. Everything seemed to be like a whirlwind - everything happened in a snap. Yi Quan closed his eyes. He was quite confused. He knew he love Kelsi, but a part of him knew he have not moved on.

"She... I... I'm..."
"Quan, listen to me. If you are just using her to forget Ah Sa, then you're making a wrong move. In the end, you're the one who's going to hurt more, as much as you're going to hurt her. If she's just a rebound girl, then let her go..."
"Ya Se, it's not like that. I love Kelsi. I do..."

Ya Se smiled upon hearing that. "I'm glad to hear that..." he said. "I'm sorry to barge into your love life just like that. It's just that we don't want you to be like Xiu Yi... and we don't want you to make the same mistakes that I made before... you knew the story, right?" he said. Quan nodded his head. He smiled at his friend, but at the back of his mind, he had a lot of questions to answer for himself... about him, and his feelings for Kelsi.

It was late in the evening and Kelsi was walking back to her apartment. As she walked through the dark street, she could sense that someone was following her. She looked back to find a shadow about to approach her. Scared, she was walked as fast as she could, but she could sense that the one following her was keeping up with her pace. Then, she decided to run. While trying to run, she tried to reach for her mobile phone to call either Jian Hua or Yi Quan, but before she could, someone reached for her shoulder.

"Kelsi!" she heard him call her name. His voice was familiar. She looked up to see Yi Quan, wearing his usual disguise of shades and cap. She sighed with relief. She thought her life's in danger. "You... you scared me..." she said while panting. "Sorry to scare you... I was trying to follow you, but you were walking too fast..." he said. She looked up at him and smiled. Yi Quan, hugged her tight. "I'm really sorry... I should've picked you up at the hospital, but I saw some paparazzis there..." he explained.

Kelsi understood him. That afternoon during her shift, Ren Jie and Xin Lei told her that there were some reporters and paparazzis hounding the hospital ground. Good thing their security was strict, and they were not able to get in. It can't be helped, she thought. She was dating a superstar, and dating Yi Quan means that everything that she does will be of interest to these reporters. "How about a late dinner?" Yi Quan suggested. "If we go to a restaurant, wouldn't those reporters be able to follow you?" she asked. Yi Quan gave her a smile, and then winked at her. "Don't worry, I took care of that."

"Don't tell me you reserved the whole restaurant just for the two of us..." Kelsi asked Yi Quan as soon as they entered a five-star restaurant in a hotel. Yi Quan looked at her and smiled. "Exactly... you know superstars like me deserves some privacy, you know..." he said proudly. Kelsi couldn't help but laugh at him. "I just want spend just a few hours with you alone... I hope you wouldn't mind me doing this..." he said. Kelsi looked up at him and smiled, then gave him a kiss on his nose.

They had their dinner, and after they finished eating, Yi Quan asked Kelsi to dance. "Shall we?" he said. He stood beside her and held out his hand to her. Kelsi nodded her head, and took Yi Quan's hand. and stood up from her chair. Yi Quan put his arm around her waist, and then they began to slow dance. "This is weird..." Kelsi said. "We're dancing, but there's no music..." Yi Quan moved his face closer to her, then smiled. "There is... can you hear it?" he said huskily. Kelsi shook her head. Then, Yi Quan began to hum. "i can hear it now..." she said in a low voice. She closed her eyes as they dance, she listened to the music that's been playing in her ears.

Then, they stopped dancing. Yi Quan stared intro her black orbs, and slowly, he moved his face towards hers. Without hesitations, he kissed her... and it was a long kiss. At that moment, Kelsi could really here the music in her ears.

What they didn't anticpated was a bunch or reporters waiting for them outside the hotel. As soon as they got out, their eyes were blinded by the flash of cameras surrounding them. "What are we going to do?" Kelsi asked Yi Quan, who was hounded already by the reporters. Yi Quan looked at her, and squeezed her hand. "Trust me, OK?" he said. Kelsi just nodded her head. She could hear the reporter questioning him about her, if she is his girlfried, if she is the girl who replaced Ah Sa in his heart. He never answered the question. He just squeezed her hand and then pulled her. "Run..." he in almost a whisper, enough for her to hear. Then, they began to dash and get out amidst the crowd. They were almost near the parking lot, when Yi Quan felt Kelsi's hand let go. He stopped running and saw Kelsi down on the floor. "Yi Quan... help..." she said. He went back to get her. He took her hand, and then carried her. The reporters still following them. When he saw a paparazzi's camera too close to Kelsi's face, he took his camera and threw it on the ground. Yi Quan was able to sigh with relief as soon as they were inside the car.

"Are you OK?" he asked Kelsi. She just nodded her head. "I'm glad to hear that..." Kelsi looked up to him. "Yi Quan, you don't have to be that harsh to the reporter..." he said, pertainig to the one who's camera he threw on the ground. "He was about to hurt you... I'm sorry I have to do that..."

"You don't have to say sorry to me, Quan... you have to say sorry to that reporter..."
"But -"
"Yi Quan... you did something wrong to that guy. You should apologize."

Yi Quan just sighed. Kelsi's right. He did the man wrong, and he should apologize for his actions. He's sure that the news about that will come out the next day. "OK, OK... I'll apologize to him... I promise..." he said. Kelsi smiled at him. "You know what, you should be thankful to him... to them... because if they didn't follow us, you wouldn't carry me..." Kelsi said. Yi Quan, put his hand on her cheek, and gave her a kiss on the lips.

The next day, Ah Ken stormed into his pad and angrily put a tabloid on the coffee table. His bandmates, who were there for a visit, took a look at it. "'Zuo Yi Quan harrases reporter for girlfriend'" Xiu Yi read. Then he looked with disbelief at Yi Quan. "Wow... man I never thought you could do that!" he said. Yi Quan remained silent. "What's this all about, Quan? Care to explain it to me?" Ah Ken said. "The paparazzis... I was scared they're going to hurt her... so..."

"So you have to hurt the reporter for this girl, huh Yi Quan? Didn't you ever think your reputation as an artist?" Ah Ken said. Yi Quan stood up from his seat and faced him. "I don't care!" he shouted. "I don't care what people would say about me after that incident. She needed me... I have to protect her! Can't you see that, Ah Ken?"
"Tell me, what is it with this girl that you would risk everything that you'll worked for? What is she to you, Zuo Yi Quan?"

Yi Quan looked away from Ah Ken. "I love her... I love this girl..." he said in a low voice. "And I'll do everything to keep her by my side..." Ah Ken sighed with disappointment. Lately, Yi Quan's becoming too stubborn. It started when he dated Ah Sa. "Yi Quan, listen to me..." he said more calmly. "We don't want you to get hurt... and we don't want you to go through that phase again. It's better if you just break up with this girl. Who knows, maybe she's just using you..." Yi Quan looked at him, and shook his head. "Don't tell me to break up with her. You know I will never do that, Ah Ken. Don't ask me to do something you know I can never do. You just have to accpet that..." Then, Yi Quan retreated back to his room.

That night, Yi Quan went to Kelsi's apartment. He knew he's still on duty at the hospital, but he decided to stay and wait for her. He fell asleep waiting for her. By midnight, he was awaken by a slight nudge by his shoulder. "Yi Quan..." he heard someone say his name. He slowly opened his eyes and saw Kelsi standing by his car. "Quan.. what are you doing here?" she said in a worried tone. "I wanted to see you..." he said.

Kelsi got inside his car so that they could talk. "I heard the news... about that paparazzi... I'm sorry to cause you problems..." she said in a low voice. "No, Kelsi... I'm sorry that you have to get into this circus..." he said. He took a deep breath and sighed. "Sometimes I wish I am not doing this job... that I am not a superstar... then may be we can have a peaceful life..." Then he looked at her.

"Do you think, if I am not an artist, we would still meet?" he asked her. Kelsi looked up at him and smiled. "Yes... if God would allow us to meet... if it's destiny... then we would meet..."
"And we'll still fall in love with each other, right?"
"I would still fall in love with you, Quan... though you're not a star anymore"

Yi Quan smiled to himself, then looked at Kelsi again. "You trust me, don't you, Kelsi?" he asked. "Of course, I do trust you..." she answered. Then, he started the engine of his car, then looked at her again. "Let's get somewhere... let's runaway from here even for just a day... come with me Kelsi... I just want to be with you..."

Chapter 9: Under his wings


It was nearly dawn when they arrived at Yi Quan's secret place. It's a small cabin hidden beneath the woods. "We're here..." he said to Kelsi. Both of them got out of the car, and Kelsi was amazed how beautiful that place is. It was filled with a lot of flowers. "This is beautiful..." she said in a low voice."This is my secret sanctuary." Yi Quan explained. "Whenever I feel burnt out, I would run away and go here..." Then, he looked at her, and he reached for her hand. "Come, I'll show you something..." he said. Kelsi smiled at him, and took his hand.

They went at the back of his cabin. And to her surprise, she found a garden full of roses. She was astonished. "Wow..." she said in a low voice. For sure, she have dreamt of this place. She dreamt before that she's in this place, and she's with Yi Quan, but now it's not a dream anymore. It's a reality. She turned around, and she saw Yi Quan holding a long stemmed rose for her. "For you, my lovely princess..." he said. She smiled at him as she took the rose. "Thank you, my handsome prince." Then, he leaned forward her, and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Is there something bothering you, Yi Quan?" Kelsi asked. It was late in the morning, and they were on a bech at the cabin's terrace, s. Yi Quan looked at his girlfriend. Although he was trying to cover up his problem, he knew Kelsi could see through him. "Nothing..." he said, shaking his head. "It's just that I'm getting tired of all this..." Kelsi looked at him, then slowly put her head on his shoulder. "How about you, Kelsi... are you getting tired of this circus?" he asked. "No... if this is what it takes to be with you, then I'm willing to endure everything..." He put his arm around her shoulder and embraced her.

He's scared of what's going to happen next. What the consequence of his actions are. He wanted to protect Kelsi away from the prying eyes of the public, but he know his unjust action would ruin him. He didn't want to follow Ah Ken's order to break up with her. He didn't want to follow his order to deny her in the public. But what he is to do? He is a superstar, and for everyone, he is a public figure. His private life would still be of interest. He just wanted to keep her relationship with Kelsi a private thing, but he knows it would be impossible.

"Don't worry too much, Quan..." he heard Kelsi say. He looked down at her and smiled. "We're here to have some peace, right? Don't think too much..." then he heard her softly yawn. Before he knew it, she was sleeping peacefully in his arms. He smiled to himself. He realized how pretty kelsi looks like when she sleeps. He knew she's tired, since she came from her shift in the hospital before they came to this place. He planted a kiss on her forehead, and leaned on her head, and closed his eyes. He began to sleep peacefully... with the girl he loves beside her.

"I think it's about time that we head home..." Kelsi said to Yi Quan that late

afternoon, while hiking at the woods. Yi Quan looked at her. "We can't always

runaway like this, Quan... somehow, we have to face our problems..." she

continued. Yi Quan looked down, as he toyed the stick he's holding to the

ground. "The problem is... I can't..." he thought. He wanted the day to be

longer. He wanted to be with her much longer. He wanted to stay in this place,

his sanctuary, just a little bit longer... because he knows when the next day

comes, everything would be a chaos. He will have to heed Ah Ken's order. He will

have to break her heart eventually, for she will not be his choice anymore, but

his option.

Kelsi walked towards him, and hugged him. "I know something's bothering you,

Quan..." she said in a low voice. "But I assure you everything's going to be all

right... Everything will be all right..." Yi Quan let out a faint smile. "Yes,

everything will be all right..." he said. Whatever will happen the next day, he

know he have to face it, and he could face it as long as Kelsi's beside her.

"Our deal..." Ah Ken reminded Yi Quan as they walked towards the the studio for

his interview. Yi Quan stopped walking, and faced Ah Ken. "Ah Ken, you know -"
"Listen to me for once, Zuo Yi Quan." Ah Ken said. "Do as I say. You know the

consequences if you won't do it. It will ruin you, it will ruin everything we have

worked hard for. Just do it." Yi Quan watched as Ah Ken headed for the studio.

He clenched his fist as he watched him. At that moment, he wanted to walk out,

but he knows if he do, rumors would start spreading again. He is here to clarify

it - no, the right term would be too deny everything. As much as he didn't want

to follow Ah Ken, there's nothing he can do. Guess, it was inevitable...

He closed his eyes, and he remembered Kelsi. There's nothing he could do

now... he promised her everything will be all right, but he knows after his

interview, everything will change between them. He knows she will be mad, she

will be heartbroken, but he have no coice but to do this, to break her heart.

[Flashback]
"Deny her." Ah Ken said in a stern voice. He was like his father, telling him what

exactly to do in his life. "No." he answered. She was the best thing that

happened in her life. Why does he have to do that? He just wanted to shout to

the world that she is the very reason why he wakes up each morning, why he is

alive and want to continue living. Everything that he is right now, it was all

because of Kelsi. Why can't Ah Ken even understand that?"
"Deny her or else..."
"Or else what?"

Ah Ken looked at him in his eyes. "Or else I will do every means to take her away

from you." Yi Quan shook his head, then stood up from his seat. "I mean it, Yi

Quan..." Ah Ken said. He began to walk away from him. "You don't know what I

can do." Ah Ken said. Still, he didn't listen to her. "I could even take away all

that you have right now... everything Yi Quan... I made you. I can destroy you."

Kelsi and Jian Hua were having their lunch at the nearby restaurant that noon.

Suddenly, one of the waitresses turned the TV on. "Zuo yi Quan will be

interviewed today!" they heard her say. They watched as the waitresses

gathered in front of the TV to watch him. "Hey, I heard he'll be answering some

issues... do you think he will admit that he's dating you?" Jian Hua asked her.

Kelsi just gave him a smile. "I don't know... knowing his line of work, he might

tell everyone that we're just friends. You know how showbusiness goes..." he

said.

They listened as the host interviewed Zuo Yi Quan. True enough, Yi Quan

answered the issues regarding the rumors about him and Ah Sa, and about the

reporter he punched the other night. Kelsi just ate her food as she listened to

his interview. Just then, the big question was asked by the host. "Yi Quan,

there were rumors that you were dating a Filipina doctor. How true is that?"

Yi Quan smiled at the host then looked at Ah Ken. He paused for a moment

before he answered. "No. That's not true..."
"Then who was the girl you're with when the issue about the paparazzi came

out?"

Yi Quan took a deep breath before he answered.

"She was just a fan."

Kelsi dropped her chopsticks upon hearing that. Then she looked at the TV. "We just met at the hotel that night, and she was about to get a cab when the paparazzis came... They hounded us, and I got just while the paparazzis were taking pictures of me. That's what really happened..."

Then she looked back at Jian Hua, who was more than surprised than her. "Just a fan?" he said. If only he could get inside the TV, he would beat the hell out of him. "I would totally understand if he admits that you're just a friend but a fan?" Kelsi lowered her head. She can't exactly tell what she feels at that moment, she was mad, and in pain. She wanted to cry but she wanted to look stronger in front of Jian Hua. She knew right from the start that there's a chance that Yi Quan would deny her, she have anticipated it, but she never thought it would hurt like this. "Jian Hua... stop... let's just give him the benefit of the doubt..." She said in a low voice, she tried to conceal her pain, but Jian Hua knows better. Jian Hua could sense in her voice that she's about to cry, so he took her away from that place.

Denying his relationship with Kelsi is one of the worst feeling in the world. He felt guilty. Kelsi doesn't deserve this. Not after all the things she've done for him. Right after the interview, he lingered in his car. He took his phone and dialled Kelsi's number. After three rings, Kelsi answered it. "Hello..." she said in a sad voice. He could tell in her tone that she was able to watch his interview, and it made him feel like the worst boyfriend in the whole world. "Kelsi..."
"Yi Quan... I saw your interview..."

Yi Quan took a deep sigh before he speaks to her again. He doesn't know where he would start explaining things to Kelsi. "Kelsi... I-"
"You don't have to explain a thing, Yi Quan.... I understand... I perfectly do..."

He became silent. "I understand this is part of your work... and I'm willing to take everything, Yi Quan. I knew right from the start that this would happen. You don't have to worry about me...'" she continued. "You don't understand, Kelsi... it was against my will.."
"But you have to do it, right? Yi Quan... I accept everything about you because I love you... and if it means that you have to deny me in public, I would still accept that. What matters is I'm confident of what you feel for me..."

Yi Quan smiled as she listened to her. He is indeed very lucky to have an understading girlfriend like her. "Let me make it up to you... how about dinner tonight. My treat." he said. He heard Kelsi laughed at the other line. "Sounds like a plan."

"Ah Ken, I have to go." Yi Quan said as soon as the their recording finished. He watched as Ya Se, Xiu Yi and Xiao Yu began to pack up to leave the recording studio. "You can't go yet, Quan..." Ah Ken said. His three friends looked at their handler with confusion. "The producer would be coming in a while with your new leading lady..." he explained. "Can we do that some other time? I have to meet Kelsi..."
"But this is important, Quan. This is all about your new movie. Just give it a few minutes ok?"

Yi Quan sighed as he resigned to what Ah Ken wants. It wasn't long before when the producer, Dennis Fang. "I'm sorry I am late. I hope I did not keep you all waiting." Dennis said as soon as he approached Yi Quan and Ah Ken. "Hey, Ah Ken... we'll go ahead, OK?" he heard Xiu Yi said. Before he knew it, his friends left him with Ah Ken and the producer. "It was nice meeting you again, Zuo Yi Quan." Dennis said to him. Yi Quan smiled at him then shook his hand. "Before we go to the restaurant, shall we wait for your leading lady first?" Dennis asked. Yi Quan smiled then shook his head. "I'm sorry, Mr. Fang, but I have something to do tonight..."
"Oh, Yi Quan, we talked about this already right?" Ah Ken said. "Mr. Fang here is proposing a new movie for you. Let's just wait for your new leading lady then we'll go ahead. After we signed the deal, you can do whatever you like." he continued. Then, he saw Mr. Fang looking at the studio's entrance. "There she is!" he said. He looked at the other direction, and to her surprise, he saw the least person he wanted to be with.
"Hello Quan... Long time no see..." she said. He just kept on staring at her. He can't believe that the girl who broke his heart, who almost caused his death, is right in front of him now. "Ah Sa..."

"Aren't you going home yet?" Ren Jie asked Kelsi that night. She was standing outside the hospital, waiting for Yi Quan. Kelsi smiled at her and shook her head. "He's gonna pick me up tonight..." she said. Then she sad goodbye to her colleagues.

Two hours...
Three hours have past.

Kelsi still stood outside the hospital waiting for Yi Quan. She tried to call him, but he's not answering his phone. "What could've happened to him?" she thought. "He's not coming..." she heard a voice said. She turned around, and saw Jian Hua walking towards her. "He just denied you today, of course he would make sure he is not seen with you tonight. Come on, I'll send you home..." he continued. Kelsi just lowered her head. "I trust he'll come..." she said in a low voice. She was starting to lose hope, but she know Yi Quan will come for her. He have never broken a promise to her. Jian Hua shook his head in dismay. "Wait all you want... but I'm telling you he is not coming." Then he left her.

A few minutes later, Yi Quan's car came. Kelsi stood up from where she's sitting, and smiled as he approached her. She opened the door of the car, and to her disappointment, she saw Mei Ru. "I'm sorry, Angel..." he said. "YI Quan had some important matters to attend... come on, I'll send you home." There was nothing else that she could do, but to accept the fact that he is not coming. Their date is cancelled. He have broken his promise. She got into his car, and Mei Ru drove her to her apartment. But along the way, tears can't help falling from her eyes...

She could feel something is going wrong...
Something not good is coming their way...

Chapter 10 – The unseen tears


“I know he loved me dearly, and I feel the same way for him...”
“I understand why he did the things he did a while ago...”
“I believe everything he say, especially when he says that he loves me...”
“But why do I feel that something's going wrong?”
“Why do I feel that I'm starting to lose him?”
“I've told myself that I'll be contented with what we have now... That I would accept it if he would be gone in my life... but I'm not yet ready for this... I'm not yet ready to lose him....”
“Am I being selfish? Am I asking too much? Is this too much?”

Silence.

“Was it wrong for me to love him with all my life?”

Silence.

Tears began to fall from her eyes. She have had enough heartbreak for a day. She doesn't need the feeling of losing Yi Quan. She doesn't need this strong gut feel. She doesn't want the feeling she's feeling right now. Most of all, she doesn't need this paranoia.

She need to see him, she need him to assure her that everything's going to be all right, and tell her that she's thinking too much...

But he's not around to comfort her.

He put his arm around her and comforted her. He pulled him to his chest, as she let her cry onto his shoulder. Mei Ru could only watch as she cries. He was here merely as a substitute for Yi Quan, and as her friend. She doesn't need another heartache,she understand. He decided not to tell Yi Quan's whereabouts.

If only Yi Quan would decide sooner who he will he choose...

He sat across the woman who broke his heart. He looked into her eyes, she was smiling at the people around them. He felt the familiar pain when he saw her in bed with his best friend. But what startled him more, was he felt a confusion in his heart.

He was silent during dinner, an only speaks up when being asked. He was not comfortable with the fact that he is facing Ah Sa. He was not yet ready to see her, not now. Though he have moved on, the pain in his heart still remained. “Yi Quan, why don't you drive Ah Sa home?” Dennis said to him. Yi Quan looked up at him, and gave a sly smile. “I don't think that would be appropriate.” he said. Then, he glared at Ah Sa. “We broke up a long time ago...” he continued. Dennis and Ah Ken could feel the tension growing between Ah Sa and Yi Quan. “Well... It would be much better if the you two would talk about what happened. It would be for the best since the two of you would be working together, right?” Dennis said. Ah Ken walked towards Yi Quan and leaned over him. “Do what he says or else...” he hissed at him. Yi Quan glared at him, He then looked at Ah Sa, then back at Ah Ken. “All right...” he said, giving in to them. “I'll take her home.”

Yi Quan stopped the car in front of Ah Sa's house. During the drive, there was an awkward silence between them. “Here we are...” he said coldly to her. Ah Sa gave Yi Quan a smile, trying to break the ice between them. “Would you like to come in?” she asked. Yi Quan looked away from her. “To tell you the truth, Ah Sa, Im not ready to see you after everything that happened between us... I'm not ready to see Nan as well...” he replied. Ah Sa looked at Yi Quan, her smiled slowly faded from her face. “Yi Quan... you still have not forgiven me, haven't you?” she said in a low voice. “You still have not forgiven me and Nan...”
“I have forgiven you, but I have not forgotten how you broke my heart.”

Ah Sa leaned closer to Yi Quan, and pull his face to hers. “Yi Quan...” He glared at her. “You can't do this, Ah Sa... you can't break someone's heart, leave and come back as if nothing happened. I can't pretend nothing happened, because you know what, it took me along time to forget about you. It took a lot of effort for me to move on.” Tears began to fall from Ah Sa's eyes. She have anticipated this, his wrath, but shes willing to endure everything as long as she could have him back. “Yi Quan... I came back for you. I realized that I still love you... Please take me back... please choose me again...” she begged him. He took her hands away from him, and turned away from her. “I'm sorry, I can't choose you anymore...” he said. “Is there someone else?” she asked. Yi Quan didn't answer her, but instead let out a sigh. “It's that fan girl, right?” she asked again. This time, Yi Quan looked at her and stared into her eyes. “It's none of your business anymore, Ah Sa. Whoever it is that I chose to love... it's none of your business...”

Ah Sa is still determined to have him back. Desperate, she pulled Yi Quan and kissed him passionately. After a while, Yi Quan pulled away from her. 'Leave me, Ah Sa...” he said in a low voice. “I cant love you... not anymore...” Ah Sa shook her head as she speak. “I won't give up on you, Yi Quan. I know, deep in your heart, you still love me.” she said. With that, Ah Sa left Yi Quan in his car. What she didn't know is that when she left, she also left a big confusion in his heart...

“Please, Mei Ru... leave me alone for the mean time...”
“But Mr. Zuo, Ms. Kelsi is waiting for you at the hospital...”

Yi Quan looked up at him with a worried look in his face. “Mei Ru, please do me a favor... please pick her up at the hospital and send her home...” he said. Mei Ru nodded his head and headed out of the door. As soon as Mei Ru left, he stood up from the couch and headed to his mini bar. He poured himself a glass of wine, and drunk it all up. He felt guilty for denying Kelsi, for standing her up, and most of all, for being confused about he feels for her. He was not ready to see Ah Sa. He was not ready to feel what he felt the moment he saw her. The truth is, he could not deny that he was still attracted to her, and the love he thought that have died the day she cheated on her, resurfaced once again.

The truth is, he wanted Ah Sa back. He could've taken her back at that moment, but he thought about Kelsi. He loved her as well, and he could feel her love for him is unconditional. She was willing to be on the sidelines so that he could continue being a superstar. She risked being denied by him, because she loves him so much, and he felt he was being a jerk. Ya Se's right, maybe he was just using her as a rebound. “This isn't right...” he thought.

He poured himself another glass of wine, and drank it again. As soon as he finished it, he poured the wine into his glass again. He is still in love with Ah Sa. Despite everything, she's still the one she wants. He just couldn't understand why... maybe it's because of the fact that only Ah Sa could satisfy his needs as a man... something that Kelsi could not give to her.

He heard the door slowly opened. He turned around and saw Ah Sa enter his pad. “What are you doing here?” he asked in a calm tone. “I won't give up on you, Yi Quan...” she said as she walked towards her. As she walked, she slowly took off the coat she was wearing, revealing the her skin in a sexy little black dress. “You shouldn't be here, Ah Sa...” he said, turning away from her. She put her arm around him, and pulled his face towards her. “Give me a chance to love you again, Yi Quan.... please...” she begged again. Yi Quan looked in a different direction, because he know if she looked into her eyes, he would be more confused, or worse, he might give in to her. Ah Sa moved closer to him, and before he knew it, her lips have touched his, kissing him as passionate as ever. Being the man he is, all his defenses were down, and he finally gave in to her that night...

Chapter 11- Heartaches


A tall figure walked along the hospital lobby. Only the sound of her heels were being heard around the place. She stopped walking as soon as she saw the nurses' station. She took off her shades as she watched her talk with a colleague, she must have disturb the two with her presence, for as soon as they looked up at her, her colleague said goodbye to her, and left. “You must be Kelsi?” she asked. She looked up at her and nodded her head. She smirked at Kelsi. “I don't think I have to introduce myself anymore...”
“You don't have to. I know who you are...”

Silence.

Yi Quan woke up the next day with a throbbing headache. He sat up from his bed as he massaged his head, then he realized that he was naked. He looked to his side, and he saw Ah Sa sleeping peacefully beside him, also naked. He shook his head upon realizing just what happened last night. He felt more guilty than ever. How could he sleep with her, and make love to her? How could he betray the girl who loves her?

After a while, he felt her move. He looked down at her, and watched as she slowly opened her eyes. The moment she saw him staring at her, she smiled. “Good morning, honey...” she said. Then, she sat up on the bed and reached for him to kiss on the cheek. Before her lips could touch his cheek, he turned away from her. “What's wrong with you?” she asked. “This... this is wrong, Ah Sa...” he said in a low voice. She reached for his face, and pulled it towards her. “No, it's not, Yi Quan. I love you... and I know you still love me...”
“You just don't understand. I can't love you anymore... because...”
“Because?”

Ah Sa waited for his answer, but he just turned away from her again. He stood up from the bed and walked away from her. “Ah Sa... please leave now before someone could see us together.” he said. “But why? You just have to tell me, Yi Quan. Tell me why can't you love me again?” she asked in a demanding tone. Yi Quan looked back at her. “Because I have someone else... someone who love me more than anything else, and I just can't hurt her...” he finally answered.

She looked up at him. She could sense Yi Quan's guilt – not to her, but to someone else. She thought that when she comes back, she would easily have him back as well. Though she cheated at him, she said to herself that she would do everything to amend her mistakes. She now realizes it's harder than she thought, because there is another girl between them. “Do you love her more than you loved me?” she asked, with a hint of hurt in her voice. Yi Quan turned to her. He paused, not knowing what to say to her. He love Kelsi, he is sure of that. But what he's not sure is who do he love more. Ah Sa's sudden appearance just made him more confused, because all the feelings he have for her, all the love he felt for her, all of it suddenly came back. It didn't help much that he made love to her just last night.

Ah Sa stood up from the bed, covering herself with the blanket, and walked up to him. She have to prove to herself that she still stand a chance with this man. Then, she reached up to him and kissed him passionately on the lips, and he did not resist at all.

That morning, Kelsi was trying to call Yi Quan on his mobile phone, but it seems that he turned his phone off. She called him at his home, but nobody's answering as well. “Where is he...” she thought. She sighed. She could sense something... her instinct is telling her something... but she doesn't want to believe it. A while ago, she turned the TV on, and the news she saw is all about Ah Sa coming back, and she making a movie with Yi Quan. While watching the news, she felt as if someone poured cold water on her. She wanted to think that Yi Quan got together with Ah Sa, but she dismissed at that thought. She trusts him so much, and she know she would never do that to her.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard someone knock at the door. She stood up from the couch and opened it. It was Jian Hua. “Good morning!” he said, smiling at her. He put the bags he is holding in the air to show it. “I brought breakfast.” he said. Kelsi just forced a smile, and let him in. Jian Hua noticed how worried and sad she looked like. “Anything wrong?”
“No... nothing's wrong, Wallace.”
“Then why are you so gloomy?”

Kelsi didn't looked at him, nor answered his question. “Is it because he stood you up last night?” he asked again. This time, Kelsi looked up a him. “How... how did you know?” she asked. “I never left the hospital till someone came for you. Too bad, it wasn't superstar but just his assistant...” he answered. Kelsi just lowered her head. “He's just busy, I guess... “ she said. Jian Hua gave her a stern look. “Stop making excuses for Zuo Yi Quan, Kelsi.”
“I'm not making excuses for him. It's the truth...”
“Then why did he denied you in the public? How can you make an excuse for what he did?”

Kelsi did not answer him. Instead, she turned away to him again. “I'm not making excuses for him...” she said in a low voice. “I'm just saying what I think... because...” then, she turned and looked him straight into his eyes. “I don't want to think that something's going wrong between us...” Jian Hua gave her a startled look. “What do you mean?”
“She's back... the girl he once loved...”

“Tell me, who is she?” Ah Sa asked Yi Quan as she hugged him tight. They were lying on the bed after making love again that morning. Yi Quan just stroked her hair as he kissed her on her forehead. “Kelsi...she... she's the most amazing girl I've met. When I met her, it's as if I've known her all my life...” he answered. Ah Sa looked up at him. She could feel a sting in her heart as he describe this girl, Kelsi. “Do... do you really love her that much?” she asked again. Again, he didn't answer her question. Ah Sa hugged him tighter. “I know I still stand a chance, Yi Quan. I'm not giving up on you...” she said. Even if she have to hurt someone's feelings, she'll do it just to have Yi Quan by herself.

Jian Hua and Kelsi found themselves standing in front of Yi Quan's pad. “Are you sure about this?” Kelsi asked him as she held the doorknob. “This is the only way we could find out if your instincts are right or not...”
“But this means I don't trust him...”
“Or would you rather get crazy with your thoughts?”

Kelsi didn't argue with him anymore. Slowly, she opened the door. She could hear Yi Quan's laugh... but he's not alone. She peeked inside, and she saw him on the table having breakfast. He was having breakfast with someone... and that someone is Ah Sa. She saw how Yi Quan smiled at her. She saw how he fed her. She saw how she lovingly kissed her on the lips. She fought the tears from falling from her eyes. She put on a brave front as she faced Jian Hua. The last thing she wants is for him to see her in pain. She forced a smile as she turned to him. “Nothing's there.” she said as she shrugged her shoulder. But, Jian Hua didn't believe her. He held the door, wanting it to open wide. “I said nothing's there, Wallace!” she said. 'Then, let me take a peek... will you?” he told her. “I thought I heard something...”

Before Jian Hua could open the door, Kelsi held his hand to stop him. “Please don't...” she said. She looked up at him, her eyes, pleading him. Wallace just gave her a stern look, as if saying to let him handle the situation. Then, she let him go, and walked away from him. Jian Hua watched as Kelsi left. Nothing could stop him now to find the truth. He opened the door wide, and the two lovebirds inside the pad looked at him with surprise...

Yi Quan and Ah Sa were startled as they saw Jian Hua by the door. He could see the anger in his eyes as he approached them. “Jian Hua...” Yi Quan muttered. Before he knew it, Jian Hua let out a strong punch, which made him fell on the floor. “What are you doing?” Ah Sa shouted at him. She came up to Yi Quan, and helped him up. Jian Hua just ignored Ah Sa, and faced Yi Quan once again. “That's for breaking Kelsi's heart.” Jian Hua said in a hard tone. With that, Jian Hua turned to leave.

Kelsi walked back to her apartment. This time, tears can't help falling from her eyes. Her thoughts were still filled with the scene she saw at Yi Quan's pad that morning. Her gut feel was right. Something is going on, and something is bound to go wrong. When she saw him kiss her back, she felt her heart broke into a million pieces. It's as if she can't breathe because of the pain she's feeling. Her eyes were blurred because of her tears, and she could not think straight. She absentmindedly crossed the street, not knowing that car was fast approaching her. She heard a loud honk from the car, and before she could move, she felt someone pull her back. Someone hugged her to protect her from being hit by the car.

As soon as the car left, she turned her back to find Yi Quan. He looked at her with the sorry look on his face, but she didn't bother looking up to him. Instead, she walked as fast as she could away from him. “Kelsi!” she heard him call her. But she never looked back or stop. She could feel that Yi Quan's following her. She just continued walking away from him. “Kelsi... please stop... let me explain...” she heard him say. This time, Kelsi stopped and looked at him as he walked towards her. “Let's talk... please...” he pleaded.

“She's back... isn't she...” Kelsi began. Yi Quan looked at her and nodded his head. Kelsi let out a faint smile. “I knew it...” she mumbled. “It's not what you think, Kelsi...” he said. This time, Kelsi looked up to him. “But something must've happened, right?” she asked. Yi Quan became quiet. “Is she asking you to take her back?” she asked again. Yi Quan slowly nodded his head again. “Are you going to take her back?” she asked. She was hoping Yi Quan would say no. she was hoping Yi Quan would tell her she was just thinking too much, that nothing will ever change between them even if Ah Sa's getting in the way. “Kelsi... I...” he began. “I'm confused now... I'm more confused now more than ever...”
“But you love me, right?”
“I do love you Kelsi... believe me...”
“But whats wrong? Tell me you're not coming back to her...”

This time, Kelsi can't help but breakdown in front of him. Yi Quan took her into his arms, and embraced her. “Kelsi, listen to me...” he said. “You're the last person I want to see hurting because of me... but I needed the time and the space to think things over. I love you, I really do. But when I saw Ah Sa... I got confused... I'm sorry...”
“Do you still love her?”

She waited for his answer. She watched him as he closed his eyes. He slowly nodded his head. “I realized I never stopped loving her...” he said in a low voice. He opened his eyes to find tears on her eyes. It pained him more to see her cry, but he just have to admit to her what he feels inside. He didn't want to lie to her, because he knows it will complicate more in the future if he lied to her. He reached for her face, and wiped the tear on her cheek. “I'm sorry that I have to put you through this pain. I'm sorry that I was not strong enough. I just need to think things through... I assure you and I promise you we'll get through this... just give me time...” he said. He could already feel the tears falling from his eyes. He never thought everything would end up this way. He never thought that there would come a time that he will be unsure of how he felt for her. Kelsi cupped his cheeks with his hands, and stared into his black orbs. “I will give you time if that's what you want... I'm willing to wait for you... but you have to make up your mind soon because... because it's breaking my heart...” she said. “Call me selfish, but I'm not willing to lose you... I won't give way to her. I won't give you up for her...” Then, Yi Quan moved closer to her. He kissed her lips, hoping it won't be for the last time. After their long kiss, he stood up and started to walk away from her.

“You are not selfish Kelsi...” he thought. “I am the one who's selfish...”

“What do you want to talk about?” Kelsi asked as soon as she and Ah Sa settled in a cafe. “It's about Yi Quan...” she said. Kelsi just looked at her. She knew what's going on her mind. “What about him?”
“I love him, Kelsi...”
“I love him too.”
“I want him back in my life...”
“One day, Yi Quan will decide who between us should stay in his heart. He will choose who between us whom he love more.”
“He is my life, Kelsi...”

Kelsi just looked at her, then she shook her head. “If he is your life...” she began. “Why did you have to betray him? Why did you have to leave him and went away with his best friend?” Ah Sa just lowered her head, unable to answer what Kelsi asked her. “I know I have no right to pry into your life, and whatever happened before between you and Yi Quan, it's the past and it's none of my business anymore. I am with him now. I'm not going to give him up to you.” she said. Ah Sa then looked to her and gave a faint smile. “Yes, you're right. Whatever that happened before... it's none of your business. But I'm back. I'm willing to do everything for him to forgive me. And like you, I'm going to fight for what I feel for him.” Ah Sa said. With that, she stood up from her seat, and began to walk away from her. “Then, may the best woman win.” she heard Kelsi say. Ah Sa stopped and faced her again. “Yes... and I know he will chose me.”

Silence.

“After all...” she continued. “I know he still have feelings left for me...”

Chapter 12 – Falling In and Falling Out

“And, Cut!”

As soon as the director said cut, Yi Quan and Ah Sa stopped themselves from kissing. They were filming for their new movie, “Love at the Willows” which is being shot in Shanghai. Though the camera have stopped rolling, the two still looked at each other's eyes. Ah Sa smiled at him and then pinched his nose. Yi Quan kissed her on her forehead. It was their last shooting day in Shanghai, and as soon as they finished filming, the two and the rest of the crew would go back to Taiwan in a few days.

“Where would you like to have dinner tonight?” Yi Quan asked Ah Sa as they were waking towards their dressing room. Ah Sa embraced his arm, and put her head on his shoulder as they were walking. “I don't know... it's your turn to choose a restaurant tonight.” she said. Yi Quan pulled her closer to him. “Well then, I'll find a perfect restaurant for us.” he said. Then, they reached her dressing room. Yi Quan opened the door for her, and then gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Wo Ai Ni, Yi Quan...” Ah Sa as he turned to leave. Yi Quan paused, then turned back to her. The smile on his face have faded, and there was a worried look in his face. How many times have Ah Sa told him he loved her, but he didn't answered back? “Ah Sa...” he said in a low voice. “You don't have to answer me now, Yi Quan... I know you're just enjoying my company now... I'm willing to wait till you're ready to be with me..” she said as she forced a smile at him. Yi Quan smiled at her, and nodded his head.

That night, Yi Quan was busy dressing up for his date with Ah Sa, when suddenly his phone rang. He reached for his mobile phone, and found Kelsi's name flashing on the screen. It has been almost weeks since he last talked to her, and by know, he assumes that rumors about his fling with Ah Sa must have reached her. He stared at his phone for a long time before he answered it. He didn't know if he's ready to talk to her or not... he just want to hear her voice because it would just remind him how selfish he is.

“Hello.” he said, trying to be cheerful. “Hello Yi Quan...”
“How are you, Kelsi?”
“I'm OK. I just got off from the hospital. How's your filming?”
“It's OK. I'm having a great time here in Shanghai with -”
He paused before he could say Yi Quan's name. “I'm doing OK here.” he said. “I'm glad to here that..” she replied.

Silence.

“I... I have to go Kelsi. I... We're going out for dinner...” he finally said. “Oh... OK... have fun...” he was about to end the call, when he heard him call his name. “Yi Quan... I... I miss you...” she said before she ended the call. As the call ended, he stared at his phone. He opened the picture of her on her phone, and stared at it for a long time. “Kelsi...” he whispered. He felt guilty for leaving her behind. He felt guilty, because while he is having fun with Ah Sa in Shanghai, he know Kelsi's heart is breaking back in Taiwan.

He felt that she doesn't deserve a selfish person like him. She deserves more than this charade.

She ended the call with a heavy feeling in her heart. She thought that after talking to Yi Quan, Kelsi would feel much better... but it only caused her much pain. She wiped the tears falling from her eyes. She doesn't need these now... she have to be strong for him. She just can't give up on him.

Rumors about Ah Sa and Yi Quan didn't help as well. She must admit, she's beginning to be unsure of Yi Quan's feelings for her. She understands that he needs the space and time to think things through, but the more that he spends time with Ah Sa, the more that she loses hope. “This isn't right...” she thought. “I have ti trust him.. I have to trust that he loves me and that he'll choose me in the end...”

All through out the dinner, Yi Quan was silent, and Ah Sa noticed the change of his mood. A while ago, just before they had their dinner, Yi Quan was in a good mood. “Anything wrong, Quan?” she asked. Yi Quan looked up at her and forced a smile. “Oh, nothing's wrong...” he said. “Then why are you silent?”
“I'm just a little tired, I guess...”
“Would you like to go back to your room first, or would you rather rest in my room?”
Ah Sa gave him a seductive smile, but Yi Quan barely looked at her. Instead, he looked away from her. Ah Sa sighed, then she reached fr his hand. “Quan, is there something bothering you? Tell me...” she said. This time, Yi Quan looked up at her again. “It's... it's Kelsi... “ he said. Ah Sa was not too happy to hear her name. “What... what about Kelsi?” she asked. “She called me up a while ago and... and I just felt guilty for taking her granted. I felt guilty because while I'm having fun here, I know she's hurting. She doesn't deserve this...”

Ah Sa felt uneasy with how their conversation is going. She was glad when they stayed in Shanghai for almost two months, and he was away from Kelsi. At least it gave her an edge from her competition. She thought she could have Yi Quan by herself, and she never expected that they still have a communication. “If you think she doesn't deserve this, then let her go.” she said. Yi Quan looked at her, surprised at what she said. “I can't do that, Ah Sa! I... I...”
“You love her more than you love me don't you?”

Yi Quan turned away from her, not answering her question. “All this time that we're together, it was still her, right?” she asked. “I love the two of you...”
“Then you better decide soon who should stay in your life. Because, you know what, it's not only her that's you're hurting.” Then, Ah Sa stood up from her seat and walked away from him. Yi Quan was surprised at what she said. He immediately stood up from her seat and followed her.

“Ah Sa!” he called as she followed her at the hotel lobby. Ah Sa did not bother to stop or look back at him. Yi Quan decided to run after her, and as soon as he's near her, he held her hand. “Ah Sa, listen to me...”
“No, you listen to me, Yi Quan!” she shouted at him. “If you think it's only Kelsi who's hurting, then you're wrong. I say I love you, and you don't answer back... it hurts me. I can't bear the thought that every time we make love, it's her that you're thinking, and when you sleep at night, it's her name that you're calling. I have feelings too, Quan. I can't always play your game, so you have to decide. Is it me or Kelsi?”

Yi Quan shook his head. “I can't decide... not now Ah Sa...” he said in a low voice. “Then, until when are you going to play this game? If you're planning to get even with me because of what I did, then you won.” Ah Sa turned to leave, but before she could, Yi Quan hugged her. “I'm sorry, Ah Sa... I'm really sorry. Give me more time to think things through. Once we get back to Taiwan, I'll make my decision. Just don't do this to me... don't be mad at me... please... I'm sorry...” he whispered to her. Ah Sa turned to him, and hugged him tight. Then, he kissed her o her forehead.

“I just hope...” he thought. “you would respect my decision...”

Two Days Later.

“Isn't our lady doctor quite happy today...” Jian Hua said when he saw Kelsi by the nurse's station that morning. She was about to leave when she saw Jian Hua. “Good morning, Dr. Huo!” she said cheerfully Jian Hua crossed his arms, and smiled at her. “And why are you extremely happy today, Dr. Ramirez?” he asked. Kelsi just smiled at him. “Well... today is the day Yi Quan's coming back from Shanghai. I'm planning to surprise him.” she said. Jian Hua just sighed with dismay. “Really, Kels.... how can you even think of that guy? He denied you in public, cheated on you with his ex and almost broke up with you all in just 24 hours... he didn't even call you during the time he's away, why even bother with him?”

Kelsi paused and looked at him. “I'm doing this to prove to him, and to myself, that I stand a chance. That he should choose me instead of Ah Sa...” she said in a low voice. “But what if that's not the case? What if in the end, he still chose Ah Sa?” he asked again. The smiled in Kelsi's face began to fade. “Then, I have no choice but to give way to her. I haveto respect Quan's decision...” she said. Then, she held Jian Hua's hand and looked up at him, trying to force another smile. “Jian Hua, you should be encouraging me instead. Just tell me, 'Jia you, Kelsi'. Even if you're pretending, please cheer for me...” she pleaded. Jian Hua gave her a faint smile. “Jia you, Kelsi. It will be his loss if he lets you go.” he said. Then, she embraced Jian Hua. “Don't worry, you know you can always run to me if he breaks your heart...” he whispered to her ear.

As soon as he arrived from the airport, Yi Quan and Ah Sa went straight to the hotel for the press conference of their new movie At the entrance of the hotel, Yi Quan met his assistant. “Welcome back, Mr. Zuo.” Mei Ru bowed as soon as he saw him. “Thank you, Mei Ru.”
“Everyone's waiting for you inside.”
Yi Quan and Mei Ru walked behind Ah Sa towards the venue of their press conference. “Mei Ru, how's Kelsi?” he asked. “Ms. Kelsi is doing great. I believe she'll be out of her shift in a while...”
“Do me a favor... can you pick her up? I want to see her now...”
Mei Ru paused and looked up at his boss. Then, he looked at Ah S, who stopped walking as well. “But...”
“Just do as I say. Pick her up at the hospital. I have to talk to her right after the press conference.”

Mei Ru nodded his head, and headed towards the hotel's exit. What they didn't know, Ah Sa heard what Quan said. She turned around to face him. “This is not the perfect time to talk to her, Quan...” she said. “I know. I have not seen her for so long, I just have to see her. You want me to decide soon right? Let me see her and talk to her and I'll tell you my decision...” he said. Then, he walked towards the hotel's function room.

Ah Sa could already feel what's going to be Quan's decision. “It's going to be Kelsi... he's going to choose Kelsi...” she thought. She couldn't lose to her. If Yi Quan will choose her, then she'll have to think of ways so that Kelsi would be the one who'll leave Yi Quan. And she have think fast...

“Finally, I will get to see him.” Kelsi said as she and Mei Ru walk towards the hotel's function room. Mei Ru looked at her, and smiled. “You really missed him that much, don't you?” he asked. Kelsi looked up at him and smiled. “We haven't seen each other for two months, I'm just excited to see him.”
“But I have to remind you, Ah Sa's with him...”
Kelsi paused. She suddenly felt scared at that moment. Have Yi Quan finally decided? “I know what you're thinking, Angel. I don't know what's in Yi Quan's mind right now... but you just have to be ready with whatever it is..” she heard Mei Ru said. “Whatever it is... I will respect Yi Quan's decision.”

They entered the function room in the middle of the presscon. Ah Sa and Yi Quan were already answering questions regarding their new movie, and their team up. It could not be helped that the reporters would ask about the status of their relationship, and Kelsi sensed sooner or later, someone will raise this question to them. What she didn't know is that Ah Sa saw her at one corner. Ah Sa felt threatened seeing Kelsi. “I have to make my move now...” she thought. Just then, a reporter raised his hand and asked them a question. “Ah Sa, did you and Yi Quan got back together?” she heard the reporter say. She saw Yi Quan reach for his microphone to answer the reporter's question. Before he could, she grabbed the microphone on the table. “Yi Quan and I talked about what happened before while we were shooting in Shanghai.” she said. Yi Quan just looked at her. “And, yes... we got back together.” Yi Quan looked at her with disbelief. Although they have talked, he still didn't made his decision yet. “What are you saying?” he whispered to her. Ah Sa just smiled at him. “We need this for the promotion. Just trust me, Quan.” she said as she winked at him.

Meanwhile, Kelsi was shocked at what she heard. She can't believe at Ah Sa's revelation. She never thought Yi Quan has finally made his choice, and his choice is not her. Suddenly, she felt weak. She felt her knees began to wobble, and she was about to fall from where she was standing. Good thing Mei Ru was standing beside her, and helped her to balance herself. “I think it would be better if we go out for the meantime...” he said. Kelsi just looked up at him, and nodded her head. Then, Mei Ru helped her walk, and they went out of the function room.

“I felt like I'm the third party in this situation...” Kelsi began after her long silence. They were sitting in a bench in the hotel's garden that moment. “I felt I'm the one getting in the way of their relationship...”
“No, you're not.”
“Did you see how he looked at her? How he smiled at her?”
“It's all just for the promotion...”
“I wanted to believe that, Mei Ru... but my heart tells me otherwise.”

Kelsi closed her eyes, and a tear rolled down her cheek. “Obviously, he have made his decision, and I just have to respect that...” she said in a low voice. “You need a chance to talk to him. Maybe... maybe they're just saying that all for the sake of their movie. Don't give up now. You can't give up now, because you still stand a chance with him...” Mei Ru said.

“Why did you have to say that?” Yi Quan said to Ah Sa as soon as the press conference is over. Ah Sa just ignored his reaction and continued on retouching her make up. “Why? I told you we needed that for the promotion.”
“We don't need that, Ah Sa. We had enough publicity while we are in Taiwan. Why do you have to lie to those reporters regarding our relationship?”

This time, Ah Sa looked up at him and gave him a stern look. “Why, Yi Quan? Sooner or later, I'm going we'll get back together. What's wrong with a little lie?”
“Kelsi... she -”
Ah Sa's face dropped as soon as she heard her name. “So... it's Kelsi...” she said in a low voice. “You really have to be protective when it comes to her, huh?”
“I love Kelsi, Ah Sa.”
“Then, you do love her more than you do love me, right?”

Yi Quan turned his look away from her this time. “Ah Sa... you're making things more difficult for us, for Kelsi. Just let me handle everything.”
“You're not answering my question, Quan. I have to know your decision now!”
“Let me talk to Kelsi first, Ah Sa. I will tell you my decision.”

Yi Quan was walking down the hotel lobby, when he found his assistant. “Mei Ru... where is she?” he asked. Mei Ru walked towards him. “She said she can't talk to you for now. A lot of things have already happened, and like you, she need to think things through...” Mei Ru said. Yi Quan let out a bitter laugh. “She heard everything Ah Sa said during the presscon, right?”
“Definitely. You asked her to come, she would obviously hear what she would say...”
“Is she... how did she take it?”
“She was surprised, of course. But most of all, she was... hurt...”

The two men looked at each other. “I know I have no right to intrude into your life, Mr. Zuo. After all I am just your assistant. But, Kelsi have been a friend to me. I know the past few months have been hard for her. She took all the rumors about you and Ms. Ah Sa, and awaited for your return hoping she will be given a chance to prove that she's worthy of your love. But you just proved her wrong...” Mei Ru said. Yi Quan can feel the disappointment in his voice. “I know I'm being unfair to her...” Yi Quan began. “But... what can I do? If only I could love the two of them at the same time...”

Mei Ru put his hand on his shoulder. “You just have to think, what it is that you've wanted all this time? What's that one thing that you've been looking for? What's the one thing you know you could never live without?” he said. Then, he smiled at him. “Then think, between Ah Sa and Kelsi... who's the one you think of being with when you're happy? Who's the one whom you think of when you're sad? If that person you think of in your happiness and sadness is just one and the same, then chose her. But, if it's different, chose the one you think of in your loneliness.”

As Mei Ru left, Yi Quan closed his eyes. He reflected on what he said. He thought of that one person whom he wants to be with him in his loneliness... and then he saw her face. He smiled. He knew all along it will be her, it has always been her. Then, he opened his eyes, finally deciding... it will be her....

Chapter 13 - The Decision

She gave him a hard slap on the face. His cheek was red because of it. “How... how could you...” she said in tears. He turned his eyes away from her. “I'm sorry...” he said in a low voice. “I tried to love you.... but...”
“Why can't you choose me again?”
He looked up at her. This is what he's scared of the most – that when he sees the tears on her eyes, he would be pity her again. He doesn't want to make the same mistake... he just have to tell her the truth... because he's not just lying in front of her and in front of everybody. He's already lying to himself...

“You just have to let me talk to you... please...” Yi Quan whispered on the phone. It was another night of trying to call Kelsi. The past few days, Kelsi have refused to talk to him. Whenever he calls her up, it was just her answering machine that would answer him. “Please, Kelsi... I know you're there. Pick up the phone. Let me talk to you... let me explain everything...” he pleaded again. He was a little exhausted and irritated with what's happening between the two of them. He know it's all his fault, and Kelsi's not to be blame. But why can't she hear her out. “Kels... please... just listen to my explanation. If you think that's enough, then you can do whatever you want... just hear me out... I'll be waiting for you. I'll be waiting for you at my pad. I'll wait for you no matter what. You just have to give me a chance...” then, after that, he hang up the phone

Little did he know, Kelsi have been listening to him all the time. Maybe she have been harsh to him by not answering his phone call. Maybe she made it all hard for him as well. She have always wanted a chance to be with him, now that he's giving her a chance, why does she have to make him beg for her?

Then, she finally decided. She grabbed her shoulder bag, and headed to his pad.

He was startled with a loud knock on the door. He have been waiting for Kelsi for a long time. He stood up from his seat, and rushed to the door. “I've been waiting for you!” he said with a smile on his face. But that smile faded to find Ah Sa standing by his door. “I know you are...” Ah Sa said as she put her arms around his neck. “W-what are you doing here?” Yi Quan asked. “I missed you, darling...” she whispered to his ear. Then, she reached for him, and passionately kissed him on the lips. Yi Quan pulled away from her. “What are you doing?” he shouted at her. Then, he looked up to find Kelsi looking at them. He could see the shock and hurt in her eyes because of the scene she just witnessed. “Kelsi...” he called. Kelsi just turned her back on him, and ran away. “Kelsi!” Yi Quan shouted. He was about to run after him, but Ah Sa stopped him by holding his hand. “Don't run after her...” she said. Yi Quan looked at her, then took her hand off him, and ran after Kelsi.

Finally, Yi Quan was able to reach Kelsi by the elevator. She was already inside the elevator, and the doors were about to close, but he stopped the door from closing by using his hand. He went inside the elevator and stood in front of her. “Kelsi...”
“You shouldn't be here...” he heard her say. “Go back to Ah Sa. She needs you more that I need you.” her eyes turned away from him.
“Kelsi, listen to me...”
“You don't have to explain to me, Quan. I understand. I understand everything...”
Kelsi stood in front of Yi Quan. Her head, hanging low, for she was trying to hide the tears that were about to fall from her eyes. “I knew from the start I'll be losing you to her...” she began. “I know your feelings from her are stronger than what you feel for me... that you have always loved her. It just hurts because I felt you're only using me to forget her...”
“It's not what you think, Kelsi.”
“I know it's not what I think... I made myself believe that I stand a chance with you, that I am worthy of your love... but when I saw you back there with her... when I saw you kissing her... I knew I just lost the fight. She won. She will always have your heart...”

Kelsi looked up at him as she wiped the tear from her eyes. “The more you can't decide. The more, I am hurting. That's why I'm going to make a decision for you. Be with Ah Sa... be with her. I am letting you go... no, I am giving you up. You were never mine to keep with in the first place...” she said. Yi Quan stood, surprised at what she said. “You're just giving up on me like that?” he said bitterly. “I thought you love me, Kelsi. I-”
“Because I realized loving you is the most painful thing I've ever felt in my entire life... and it's hurting you too. I don't want to see you like this... I don't want to make it hard for you, Quan that's why I'm giving way to her. That's why I'm letting you go...”

She reached to his cheek, and kissed him for the last time. “Goodbye, Zuo Yi Quan...” she whispered to his ear. As the elevator door opened, she walked away from him. This time, she know it's for good.

"Do you think, if I am not an artist, we would still meet?"
"Yes... if God would allow us to meet... if it's destiny... then we would meet..."
"And we'll still fall in love with each other, right?"
"I would still fall in love with you, Quan... though you're not a star anymore"

She walked through the deserted street as she headed home. Her mind is filled with her memories of Yi Quan...

"Did you know that you just made this day the happiest day of my life?"
"And this would be mine too... if you tell me that you love me too..."

She thought their love would last. She thought her love is strong enough to keep him, but she was wrong. But, there was no regret for her. Being with Yi Quan is the best memory in her life. She sat on her bed as she watched the television. It just didn't help that the face being flashed on the screen is Yi Quan's. It's been a week since they broke up. She have been hearing that Yi Quan finally got back with Ah Sa... she thought after all of these, she could pick up the pieces and move on... but healing her broken heart is a really difficult process. She turned the TV off. Then, she closed her eyes... even in the dark, she could see his face, smiling at her. She shed a tear once more. She know she told herself she won't cry for him, but the pain in her heart is just too much.

Just then, she heard the phone ring. She immediately took it and answered the call. “Hello...”
“Hello... Kelsi? This is Jeff.”
“Jeff?”
“You have to come home soon... Angel... she's gone...”

She felt numb upon hearing that news. She dropped the phone, and fell on the floor, still in daze. Before she knew it, her tears were flowing again...

I'm sorry if I was weak... that I just gave up like that... but I can't bear seeing you hurt because of me... because of her... that's why I chose to let you go. Chapter 14 – Breakdown


“You have to come home... Angel... she's gone...”

She stood before the door. At the far end, she found a white coffin. She walked slowly towards the coffin, ignoring the looks of the people in that room. As she reached the coffin, she peeked at the glass, and found her smiling face. It's as if she was just slumbering peacefully, and that she's having a beautiful dream. She just wished she was just sleeping, but the truth is, she's gone. She's lying lifeless on the coffin.

“Angel...” she whispered her name, hoping she would be able to hear it. She doesn't want to believe that she's gone. She doesn't want to believe that she have left them. But, she was standing before her lifeless body. She fought the tears from coming out of her eyes. She's tired of crying. She's tired of shedding tears. Angel died knowing she was happy, and it would be better if she leave it at that. Somehow, she felt guilty. While she was struggling to fight for love, her sister was struggling for her life. Whenever they talked on the phone, she lied to her, saying she's happy with Yi Quan. She didn't want Angel to know what she's going through. She doesn't want her sister to know about the heartache she had. She felt guilty for not keeping her promise...

“Angel, why are you still up?” Kelsi asked as she opened the door to her sister's room. “I'm waiting for a TV show...” Angel said weakly as she pressed the button on the remote control. Kelsi entered her room, and sat beside her. “You know that you should be sleeping early. Have you taken your medicines?” she asked again. “Yes I did as soon as I ate my dinner.” Angel said, still not taking her eyes of the television. Kelsi just looked at her sister and smiled.

When Angel was still a baby, she was diagnosed with a congenital heart disease. Lately, her sister have been sick, and she have been in and out of the hospital. Good thing it was their semestral break, and she can look at Kelsi's needs. “By the way, what are you watching?” she asked her little sister. Angel looked up at her and smiled. “It's 'Falling in love with a prince'. It's a Taiwanese series.” she explained. Kelsi gave her a skeptical look “And since when have you learned to speak Taiwanese?”
“It's dubbed. Anyway, the lead actor is really cute. I think his name is Jason Zuo...”

After a while, the show came on, and Kelsi decided to watch it with her sister. She must admit, this Taiwanese star is really handsome and she was attracted to him. “I wonder how many heart he have broken already...” she thought. Then, she looked at her sister, who was smiling at her. “You like her, ate?” she asked. “He's cute and all that... but no... not my type.” she answered. “Oh, but if you research about him, you'll find out he's your dream guy... he can sing, he speaks Japanese, he's a Bleach fan, he's a fan of Utada Hikaru, he can play drums, and he loves kids!”

Kelsi gave her the look again. If she's not mistaken, the things Angel said were in her diary entry. “Angel, are you reading my diary again?” she asked. The latter can't help but smile innocently at her big sister. “Sorry, ate....”

“I want to do something...” Kelsi heard her sister say as they were watching her favorite show. Kelsi looked at her. “What is it?”
“I want to write him a letter?”

Kelsi looked at her with disbelief. “Why? Do you think he would understand English?” she asked. “Oh, haven't I told you? Of course he would. Have I told you he studied abroad during his college years?”
“You seem to really know a lot about this guy. Do you know where you're going to write him?”
“I have the address...”
“Then go and send him a letter...”
“But there's one problem... my penmanship is really bad... can you write him for me?”

“I have something to confess to you...” Kelsi said in a low voice as she brushed her sister's hair. “I think I have fallen in love with him...” she continued. Angel just gave her a weak smile. “I knew you would...” she answered in a weak voice. “I know you're still writing letters for him in my behalf...”
“I think I'm crazy because of what I feel for him...”
“No, you're not... because I am in love with him as well. He's my first love, you know...”

“I'm going to Taiwan for my internship.”
“Good for you, ate... you'll finally see him there...”
“I don't think I would be able to see him.”
“Don't lose hope. I know you would be able to see him. And I know, he'll be able to know who you are... I could sense he'll fall in love with you the moment he laid his eyes on you.”
“That's impossible...”
“Have I told you I can read the future?”

“We are gathered here to say our final goodbye to Angel Ramirez – a loving daughter, sister, and friend...” Kelsi felt she was still in daze. Before she knew it, the priest's prayer have ended. She, her parents and her brother came up to Angel's coffin and kissed her for the last time. When it was already her turn, she kissed Angel on the cheeks, and put the white rose she's holding into her hand. As her coffin was being lowered to the ground, tear started to fall from her eyes. “Angel...” she called.

The funeral have ended and everybody have left. “Kels, let's go...” she heard her brother said. She stared at ground where her sister was buried. Feeling so weak, she fell on her knees as she breaks down. That moment, she let her emotion come through her. That time, she cried once again. She cried for the love she have lost, she cried for the sister she have lost, she cried for herself...

A few days after Angel's funeral, Kelsi went to her room for the first time. Nothing have changed since the day she left for Taiwan. Her room is still tidy, with the pink walls making it more alive. She stared into the empty bed. Before, she and Angel would lie down on that bed as they watched Yi Quan on TV. They would joke around, and they would write letters for Yi Quan together. Now that Angel's gone, they won't be able to do it anymore. It's as if part of her died when her sister left them, and she knew she will never be the same again.

At one corner of her eye, she saw Yi Quan's picture lying on her sister's side table. She picked it up, and stared at it for the long time, as if memorizing everything in him. Then, she sat on the bed, and turned the TV on. The snow effect on the screen came into halt as the channels changed. His image came into the screen, as he smiled. The camera drew closer to his boyish face, and in an instance, her world seemed to stop. She went in front of the TV screen. She never took her eyes off him, or even blinked. God knows she have loved him more than anything else in the world. She loved him with all his heart, and she silently thanked him for making her live her dream. But then, she have stop now... because loving him each day is just tearing her apart.

She reached out for his face on the screen, and touched his pixelated cheek. She closed her eyes, and suddenly, a tear fell from it. She remembered the first time she cried in front of this television, because she thought she would never have a chance to be with him. Now, she's crying because of the memory he have left her. She was crying because of a love she tried to fight for, but gave up in the end. She knew for herself she was not ready to lose this man... but she just have to give him up for her love for him is just breaking her apart. 'This madness have to stop...” she said to herself. She took one last look at the screen. She reached for it, and gently kissed his cheek. Then, she turned the TV off. She have to learn to live without him in her life, just as the way she lived her life before. She used to be an ordinary girl who adored a shining star, until this star suddenly became her world. She have to learn to eventually let him go.

She have decided to let go of this shining star, for loving him made her feel the most painful thing in the world. As she shut the TV off, she will be shutting him in her life forever...

Chapter 15 – Found


“You’re just giving up on me like that?” he said to her bitterly. He glared at her, but she just turned away from him. She was not able to see the pain in his eyes because of what she said. “I thought you love me, Kelsi, I – “
“Because I realized loving you is the most painful thing I've ever felt in my entire life... and it's hurting you too. I don't want to see you like this... I don't want to make it hard for you, Quan that's why I'm giving way to her. That's why I'm letting you go...”

He lowered his head. He just can’t believe she’s doing this to him. He should be the one who should choose and make the decision, not her… but it seems that the more he does not speak, the more it’s hurting her. He blames himself for causing her all this pain. “You really don’t understand, don’t you…” he thought to himself. “I love you, Kelsi... and I.... it's you...” he said to himself. He searched for her eyes, and found tears starting to fall from it. At that moment, he wanted to wipe those tears from her eyes, embrace her and whisper to her that she got it all wrong... that he's choosing her... that he have made his decision long ago. He realized Ah Sa's just part of his past, and all though he love her as well, he can only see his present and future with Kelsi.

He felt her hand touch her cheek, and then she looked up at him. He felt her lips touch his, and then she leaned over him. “Goodbye, Zuo Yi Quan...” he heard her whisper. He was stunned at what he heard, he felt someone poured water on him and he became too numb – too numb that he was unaware of the tears in his own eyes, too numb that he can't even move to stop her from leaving. It was after Kelsi was gone that everything just sinked in to him.

He's alone.
Kelsi just said goodbye.
He caused her too much pain that she decided to give him up.
She was gone.
Everything is over.

What Kelsi didn't see after she turned her back to leave... is the tears that fell from Yi Quan's eyes...

Yi Quan slowly walked back to his pad. As he opened the door, he found Ah Sa on his couch, patiently waiting for him. Ah Sa stood up from her seat. “What happened?” Ah Sa asked in a worried tone. He just looked at her, then went to the couch and sat beside her. “She's gone...” he said in a low voice. Then, he looked at her and forced himself to smile. “She gave me up. You won.”
“You're choosing me now?”
“Yes...”

Ah Sa smiled at him, and hugged him tight. “I promise I won't make the same mistake that I did before...” she said to him. Yi Quan just closed his eyes as he embrace her back. He know deep in his heart, he is lying to himself, and to Ah Sa, but he have hurt Kelsi enough... and he didn't want Ah Sa to feel the same pain that Kelsi is feeling now...

Manila.

“What happened?” Kelsi asked the nurse as they headed to the emergency room. “The guy was drunk when he was driving, then he hit the girl.” the nurse explained to her. She took the metal folder from the nurse's hand and headed to where her patient is. She pulled the curtain, and much to her surprise, her patient looked exactly like Yi Quan. She immediately opened the folder, and sighed with relief when she read the name of her patient. “Tristan Liang Si Nan...” she read to herself. She sighed with relief. If this man I front of her is Yi Quan, she wouldn't know what to do. She composed herself, then began to face her patient. “So, you're the drunk driver...”

A Year Later.

“Why are you so quiet, Quan?” Ah Sa asked. They were having dinner that night to celebrate their anniversary, and all through out the night, Quan is not speaking. “I guess I'm just a little tired...” ha said. Ah Sa leaned back to her seat, and gave him a seductive smile. “Want to rest at my place?” she asked again. Yi Quan just shook his head. “I'm not up tp it right now...” he said in a low voice. Then, he looked up at her, then held her hand. “Would it be OK if I take you home now... I'm not feeling really well...” The smile on Ah Sa's face faded. She sighed with disappointment She have been planning this perfect night for the two of them, just for it to end this soon. “I'm really sorry, Ah Sa... it's just that -”
“I understand. Just take me home.”

As Yi Quan was driving her home, the two of them were silent. He knew his girlfriend is mad at him for ruining their anniversary, but he's not just comfortable with the idea of celebrating this day Exactly this day, Kelsi decided to leave him. After all this time, he knew he have not moved on from their break up. He did all he could to see her or contact her, but he found out that she went back to Manila all of sudden. Finally, they reached Ah Sa's house. He stopped his car, and just watched as Ah Sa got out of the car. She never spoke a word as she got out, or even kissed him goodbye. He watched her as she open her door and got inside the house. “I'm sorry...” he said.

He opened the door, and found Xiao Yu waiting for him inside his pad. He smiled at him. “Hey, bro!” Xiao Yu greeted. “Hey, Xiao Yu...” he said. He went to the couch and sat beside Xiao Yu. Xiao Yu noticed Yi Quan's gloomy face. “What's wrong? This is supposed to be a special day for you and Ah Sa. Did the two of you had a fight?” he asked Yi Quan. “Most likely. I think I upset her. I'm feeling really tired so I have to cut our date short...” Xiao Yu just shook his head. He could sense that Yi Quan's loneliness started even before their anniversary date. In fact, he have been this way for almost a year. He may not say it, but he knew it's because of Kelsi. Ever since she have gone, Yi Quan became like a zombie.

“It's Kelsi, isn't it?” he finally asked. Yi Quan looked at him, and nodded his head. “It's just that I can't forget everything...” he said in a low voice. “Before you could learn to forget, you have to learn to forgive yourself, Quan. You were confused that time, and you were not able to choose right away. It's just that Kelsi realized that you're in a very difficult situation that's why she chose to leave you...”
“I have been lying to myself all this time, Xiao Yu. I'm lying to myself, to Ah Sa, to everyone. This relationship... it's just a lie.”
'Then why did you accept Ah Sa although you know inside your heart that you don't love her?”

Yi Quan paused and looked at Xiao Yu. “Are you scared of being alone?” he asked again. “P-partly... yes... After Kelsi left, I felt all alone... and Ah Sa's there to comfort me. I... I thought I could learn to love her again... but I can't love her anymore, not the way I loved her before...” Xiao Yu put his hand on Yi Quan's shoulder. “You know, Quan, you have to be true to your heart for once. You said it yourself, you're lying in front of everyone. If you continue this lie, it's more likely that you'll be left all alone...” Xiao Yu said. “What should I do? Break up with Ah Sa?”
“If that's the way that you can be true to yourself, then do it.”
“I'm scared to hurt her...”
“You don't have to be scared. It's better to hurt her with the truth than slowly kill her with your lie.”

Xiao Yu tapped him and gave him an assuring smile. “Trust me...”

That night, Yi Quan couldn't sleep. He have been thinking of what Xiao Yu told him a while ago. “Maybe Xiao Yu's right...” he thought. “I have to do it, not for myself, but for Ah Sa... so that she could finally find her happiness...”

He went out of the balcony and looked up at the stars. His thought were filled with Kelsi once again “I wonder if Kelsi's also looking up to these stars...” he thought. Just then, he saw a shooting star. He closed his eyes and made a wish. “I wish... I wish for Kelsi's happiness”

She gave him a hard slap on the face. His cheek was red because of it. “How... how could you...” she said in tears. He turned his eyes away from her. “I'm sorry...” he said in a low voice. “I tried to love you.... but...”
“Why can't you choose me again?”
He looked up at her. This is what he's scared of the most – that when he sees the tears on her eyes, he would be pity her again. He doesn't want to make the same mistake... he just have to tell her the truth... because he's not just lying in front of her and in front of everybody. He's already lying to himself...

“I'm sorry Ah Sa, I'm not asking you to understand. I'm asking you to let me go.” Yi Quan said. Ah Sa fell on the floor as she cried. Yi Quan reached for her, and wiped the tear from her cheeks. “I don't want to lie to you anymore, because I know I will just hurt you more.” he said to her in a low voice. “I am doing this for the two of us... so that you could also find your happiness, because as long as you are with me I will only hurt you...”
“I don't give a d**n... just stay with me, please... Quan...”
“I can't anymore, Ah Sa. I don't love you like I did before...” Then, he kissed her on the cheek. “Maybe I'm not the guy for you... maybe someone else is meant for you. I hope one day you will find him...”

Yi Quan have been driving for a long time, and in a while he found himself stopping at a familiar place. He got out of the car, and stood before Kelsi's apartment. He reached for the door, and pushed it to find that it's open. He went inside the apartment, and from there, he saw Kelsi's landlord as he was packing Kelsi's things into a box. “She... isn't she coming back?” he asked. The landlord was startled to see him. “Oh, it's you!” he said, giving Quan a smile. “I'm not sure if she would be coming back. After all, it's been a year. I need this place rented out so I'm putting away all of her things...”
“How much would it be if I rent this place?”
“NT$5,000 for a month.”
Yi Quan smiled at him, then reached for his pocket. He walked over the landlord and gave him the money. “I'm going to rent this place. No need to put away everything... just leave it as it is.” he said. The landlord was surprised at what he said. He then took the money from his hand. “Thank you... thank you so much...” he said. Yi Quan just smiled at him. “I'll be renting this place until Kelsi comes back...”
“But what if she doesn't? It's been a year since she left... and she have not contacted me since. All I know is that she already resigned from the hospital.”
“I will still wait for her. I know she will come back...”

The landlord just smiled at him. “You really love her so much... why don't you follow her to the Philippines and tell her how you feel?” he asked. Yi Quan just shook her head.”I'd rather wait for her. If she comes back, then I know we're meant to be... If she is happy now, I don't want to ruin it just because I want her back...” he said. The landlord just shook his head. “It's not that, my lad. Sometimes waiting doesn't get you something. I you want her... if you love her... you have to go to her...” he said. He tapped him on the shoulder and smiled. “I'll leave you now for you to look around, and for you to decide what to do.”

After the landlord left, Yi Quan looked around Kelsi's place. He took one book from the bookshelf, and opened it. He scanned through it's pages, then suddenly, something fell on the floor. He looked at it, and he saw a violet envelope on the floor. He picked it up and stared at it. “This looks familiar...” he thought. Out of curiosity, he opened it, and read it's content. The letter was addressed to him.

Dear Yi Quan,

How are you doing? I hope you're recovering after the accident. I'm glad that I was able to see you up close. You may not know it, but I am the doctor who attended to you at the Emergency room. Yes, it's me... I am Kelsi. I know it's a little confusing because I'm using 'Angel' as the name in my letters, but the truth is, Angel is the name of my sick sister. She idolizes you and looks up to you... and she seeks my help in writing you a letter. Please don't get mad at me because of this. I maybe using her name, but the things that you read on my letters, those really came from my heart

I'm so happy that we were able to talk. We were able to talk for a short time during your concert here in Manila, but the long conversations that we had during your stay at the hospital are the happiest memories of my life I hope we could be close friends even if you have already left the hospital.

Yi Quan was surprised at what he have read. His anonymous fan, the one who's fan mail he always look forward to... it's Kelsi. It was her all along. That's why she felt too familiar the very first time that he saw her. His heart have been telling it to him, but he have not heeded it.

As he looked at her study table, another violet envelope caught his attention. He immediately took it and read the letter inside it. It turns out to be her last letter to him.

Dear Yi Quan,

The first thing he did as soon as he got home is find his assistant. “Mei Ru!” he called as soon as he opened the door. Mei Ru immediately approached him. “Yes, Mr. Zuo?”
“Those letters... from Angel... do you still have those?”
“Yes, Mr. Zuo.”
“Please get it, quick.”

After a while, Mei Ru came back with the box that contains Angel's letters. He took one, and read it, then he compared it to the letters he got at Kelsi's apartment. He have confirmed it – Kelsi was really the one who sent her those letters. “Kelsi is Angel...” he finally said to Mei Ru. Mei Ru was just silent. “I never thought she... she and this Angel who wrote me is one and the same... Because, you know what, the first time I read Angel's letter, I fell in love with her...”
“I... I already knew Kelsi is Angel... even before you met her...” Mei Ru finally said. Yi Quan was surprised at what he heard. He then looked up at his assistant. “You knew? Why didn't you tell me?” he asked. “Kelsi asked me to keep this from you. She said it would better this way, so that she could love you from afar. It was beyond her wild dreams that you could fall in love with her.”

Yi Quan let out a faint smile. His tears were starting to form at the corner of his eyes. “And now... it's too late, isn't it?” he asked Mei Ru. His assistant just shook his head. “It's not yet too late, Mr. Zuo. You can still have her if you are willing to fight for what you feel. Once in a while, we do talk... and in those times, she would still ask all about you. I could sense she still love you. I know you still stand a chance with her...” Yi Quan nodded his head. “You're right, Mei Ru. I should fight for what I feel. I should follow what my heart is telling me this time.” he said. Then, he looked up at him again. “I'm going to find her. This time, I will never let her go.”

A tall figure walked towards the hospital lobby. Everyone's staring at him, although he wore his usual disguise of cap and shades. As soon as he found the man, he's looking for, he stopped. He watched him, as he talked with his colleague, but he know he already felt his presence. As soon as his colleague left, he looked at him. “What do you want?” Jian Hua asked in an irritated tone. The tall figure just smiled as he approached him. “I heard you're going to Manila for a vacation...”
“Why do you care?”
“I need a favor to ask...”
Then, he told him his favor. He could see that Jian Hua is not interested in what he just said. “I can't let him hurt her like that again... I'm sorry but I can't do you anymore favors.” he said. He turned his back at him, but he call him again. “You don' have to be worried about Kelsi, Wallace. I know he will take care of her this time. If you can't do this for him, then do this for Kelsi.... let her be happy this time.” Jian Hua looked back at him and glared. “Fine, Ill do it...” he said. “But this will be the last favor you'll ask of me, Jin Xiu Yi...”

The lonely song played on the cab as she rushed to the airport. It was too sudden that Jian Hua decided to visit her in Manila. It has been almost a year, and since Angel's death, she decided not to go back to Taiwan... she needed the time to heal her broken heart. It's been a year, and she have moved on already, she thinks. She have been working for a while as an ER doctor in one of the top hospitals in the Metro.

Although Kelsi decided to stay in Manila for a while, she have kept in touch with Jian Hua. He was like her big brother when she was staying in Taiwan, She knew that when she was in pain, Jian Hua could feel her pain as well. She felt guilty that she was not able to say goodbye to him when she suddenly left for home. Now that he's here, she will make it up to her Ge Ge.

She reached the airport, and patiently waited for Jian Hua's call, She looked at her watch... it was almost 2 PM, and Jian Hua should've arrived almost an hour ago.

It's been almost an hour since he arrived. Yi Quan wore his usual disguise of shades and cap. It was a good feeling to comeback to Manila after their concert was held here two years ago. People who passed by him stares at him, perhaps, people would still remember him – the Taiwanese superstar who once captured the hearts of the Filipinos.

Everything felt new to him. There were no screaming crowds following him, there were no banners of welcome for him. There were no cameras, no press people, no media. Somehow, it felt so good that for once he was not treated as a star, but as an ordinary person.

'What are you saying, Jian Hua?” she asked. “Just wait there from where you are... you will finally find your happiness...”

I understand that I am not your choice... just let me go...” she answered. He put a finger on her lips, and stared into her eyes. “You are my choice, Kelsi. You just didn't gave me the chance to say it, but it was you... it has always been you...” he began. “No one has ever made me feel this way but you... I love you.. I love everything that I feel, everything that I am, everything that I become when I'm with you... please Kelsi... please come back to me...I'm not strong enough to let you go this time.”

He held her hand again, and kissed it. “You just have to believe me...” he continued. This time, his eyes were already filled with tears. “I'm begging you, Kelsi... please take me back...” he pleaded her. Kelsi looked up to him, and cupped his cheek. “I thought I have moved on. I thought I have learned to give you up. I thought I'm OK even without you... that I'm contented with just our memories and could live with that for the rest of my life... but you just proved to me that I'm still weak. Because the moment you walked from that crowd... I knew I'm still in love you. I know I'm not strong enough not to love you again...”

Happiness finally filled Yi Quan's heart upon hearing what she said. He love her, and now that he know that she loves him as well, everything just seemed so right. Their eyes met, both of them smiling at each other. He could stare into her big brown eyes for the rest of his life, not minding being lost in it. Without saying a word, he pulled her towards him. He embraced her tight, and kissed her lips for the longest time. She could tell in his kiss that everything he said is true, and that she have found the love that she have always wanted. No words could explain how mucn they feel for each other...

As their lips parted, she smiled at him and tears of joy fell from her eyes. Finally, the star she was adoring at the night sky is within her reach, and he will continue to shine on her for the rest f his life...
