Joe Cheng began his career with the Catwalk Model Agency. His acting career began when he starred in the Taiwanese series The Rose with the famous Taiwanese girl pop group S.H.E. in 2003. In the following year he took main leads in two other Taiwanese series Nine Ball and Magic Ring. Most people recognize him from It Started With a Kiss, a Taiwanese series adapted from the Japanese manga Itazura Na kiss. Currently he is filming Geng Yi Feng Yun in mainland China. This series is a collaboration of three places - Mainland China, Taiwan, as well as Hong Kong. His upcoming movie is shot on location in Fullerton. It is called the 'uniTED Brothers'. It is about a band of brothers trying to fly a spaceship in a 'CLOUDIER Weather'. The release date is set for April 22 2007.

Joe Cheng - LV type of guy; wants to become a muscular guy

All these while Zheng Yuan Chang has been going along with the natural body-shaped typed of image, now he wants to go for the [sturdy body] image; he said that he is not aiming to become a muscular guy, he just wants to have a fit and sturdy body to greet the coming Summer. Lately he has joined a highly secretive club and he would swim everyday. After 2 weeks, he has lost about 3kg; he said that during his primary school days, his father will throw him into the swimming pool to train his swimming skills. Now he is very good swimmer, he knows all types of swimming styles like butterfly stroke, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle.Since his primary school days, he and his sister would often went to swim in the adult’s standard swimming pool, after swimming for 2 hours, his father will buy milk for them to drink. He has been keeping this habit of drinking milk right after his swimming since his primary and high school days so that is how he could grow to be this tall and strong.

Joe Cheng and Eddie Peng keep appearing in lots of different shows

In order to promote the new series [Honey and Clover] that is going to air in CTS this coming Sunday, the casts Zheng Yuan Chang (Xiao Zhong), Eddie Peng and the others have been attending all kinds of events diligently. Due to all this hectic schedule Xiao Zhong has immune system disorders (or common immunodeficiency disorders or IgA deficiency) and started have boils developed around the corner of his mouth. And because their series [Honey and Clover] will battle out with [Fated To Love You] by TTV and SETTV, so both of these TV station have single out them to appear in their shows and refused to promote the competitor’s series. This coming Sunday there will be a heated battle between the idol series. The on and off stage battle will be pretty nerve wracking indeed.

Joe Cheng wants to lift up the atmosphere for the charity auction

On 21st May, Zheng Yuan Chang (Xiao Zhong), Eddie Peng, Lego Li, David Chen and Xin Guang Pang's Mr Hammer (Lin Dao Yuan) was doing promotion and charity auction for CTS's idol series [Honey and Clover] in Tamkang University. The classroom was full of girls fighting to look at their idols and they are not stingy with their money too. That day a fan girl has won the auction by paying TWD$3600 to become their assistance for one day; and later she will get the chance to have a close interaction with the casts in backstage after the series premiere function which going t o be held soon.

Lego Li was auctioning a poster that has signatures from the cast and was sold with the price of TWD$900, in return he carried the male student as a token of gratitude. Xiao Zhong put up 4 cool cards for auction and received TWD$2000; while Eddie Peng has put up the slip on that was used in the series for auction.

Zai Zai and Joe Cheng's fate keep crossing because Honey & Clover and Wish To See You Again are rivals on TV. And now Barbie will be acting with Joe in the new drama. On the first screening of H&C, Joe said at least H&C's ratings will be higher then WTSYA which caused an uproar. But it turned out to be true. However, compared to Fated to Love You, the difference between them was quite big.

Joe's role in this new drama will be someone who on the outside he looks rich but actually he's poor and has a huge amount of credit card debts. This is rather similar to ZZ's previous drama Poor Prince Taro. It is said things might be a bit awkward between Barbie and Joe because Barbie used to date ZZ and Joe was a good friend of Xu Wei Lun who had previously dated ZZ. But Joe says he has always been a fan of Barbie even before he debuted. He would buy their CDs and stuff.

Regarding the bed scenes, he had one in TKA and one in H&C so they say he's the "Qing Se Pai Ou Xiang' which is like an idol who has lots of bed scenes.

This drama will be in production on the second half of 2008.

Zheng Yuan Chang reveals that during his preschool days, he was always being told he looked like Taichung’s mayor. After filming the idol series [Honey and Clover] he has a new talent where he could guessed the age of his female fans. He only needs to ask his females fans whether they like him with or without glasses and from that, he will be able to know whether the girl is under or above 25 years old.

Although Zheng Yuan Chang is an extremely handsome guy in the eyes of his female fans but during his younger years, he was not handsome at all. Back then when he was living in Taichung, during his preschool days, other parents will say he looks like Taichung’s city mayor and after that, his relatives will start to call him [Taichung’s city mayor].

Zheng Yuan Chang said that when the adults said he looks like Taichung’s city mayor, it doesn’t really mean he looked exactly like the then Taichung city mayor but they were just saying that he has an old-looking [mayor] face. After he grows up and looking at his preschool pictures, he can’t denied that what the parents said back then were true; and he really feels that he did [looks beyond his age].

Wearing glasses in Honey and Clover; female fans have parted into two groups
Zheng Yuan Chang is not very satisfy with his image because he could only attracts young and matured female fans unlike the other cast, Lego Li, in [Honey and Clover] who has a male fan who dares to confess his feelings to Lego during one of the previous signing session; attracting both boys and girls.

And Zheng Yuan Chang’s image in [Honey and Clover] was being discussed by a lot of fans too. He said that female fans that tend to like his glasses image are normally above 25 years old; while the younger ones will prefer his image without glasses. So now he only needs to know whether the fans prefer him with or without glasses to know their age. This can be considered as a gain from filming this series.
