Chapter 1 – Chocolates
Valentines day, 2 years ago…
“Good morning!” Calvin shouted as he entered the Jin household. Mr. and Mrs. Jin looked at the door, and saw Calvin by the door. “Good morning, Calvin. Come in.” Mr. Jin said. Calvin went inside the door and sat on the couch. “Auntie Jin, where’s Kit?” she asked. “She’s at the kitchen, working on some chocolates…” she said. “Calvin, do you know if Kit already have a boyfriend?” Mr. Jin asked. Calvin gave him a confused look. “As far as I know, she does not have any boyfriend. Why do you ask, uncle?” he asked. Mr. Jin just shook his head. “She’s busy making chocolates at the kitchen.” He said, tuning his eyes on the newspaper. Calvin looked at the kitchen, and he could smell the sweet fragrance of the chocolate Kit is making. He decided to get in the kitchen to take a look at what Kit was doing.
As he entered, he saw Kit busily putting the chocolates she made in a pink, heart-shaped box. “Ooohhh... chocolates!” Calvin said as he entered the kitchen He was about to take a piece, but before he could, Kit hit his hand. “Don't! It's not for you.” she said. “Wei... it's just one piece of chocolate. Besides, you'll give it to me at the end of the day.” he said. “Not this Valentine's day.” she said. She put the lid on the box, and then tied it with a ribbon. She then tied a card on it, then she wrote a name on the card. He took a peek on what she was writing, and he saw her writing Chun's name. “So, the chocolates are for Chun again...” he thought sadly. Calvin looked away from her. He took the bowl, and then dipped his finger on the chocolate, and ate it. “As if you would be able to give it to Chun...” he commented. Kit gave him a glare. “I will. Wait and see.” she said. “It was always been the same every year. You've been making those chocolates for Chun since our last year in middle school, and since then, you were not able to give it to him because you are too shy. In the end, you give your chocolates to me.” he said. Then, he smirked as he tried to take the box away from Kit, but Kit was alert, and she was able to keep it from him. “So, stop keeping those chocolates, and give them to me already!” he said. Kit gave him dagger looks. “The answer is no. And why are you targeting my chocolates, when you have a bunch of lady admirers willing to give you their chocolates. Just accept those chocolates and stop eying on mine!” she said.
Calvin just smiled at her. Ever since, he have never accepted the chocolates from her lady admirers. He believes that if he accepted those chocolates, it means that he also accepts their love. He could not accept their love, because he only have his eyes on someone else, and sadly, it's his best friend. He longed for the day that she would give her chocolates to her, and he would accept it, but since Wu Chun transferred to their school, Kit have only his eyes on him.
“Chun doesn't like sweets.” he said to Kit. Kit just smiled at him. “But he would accept these chocolates. There's no way he would turn down an offer from a cute girl like me.” she said confidently. “Chun is just fond of you because you are my best friend.” he said. “He is fond of me because I think he likes me.” Kit said. “Why do you always have to assume things, Kit. Chun definitely doesn't like you.” he snapped at her. “You are the one assuming things, Calvin. Chun likes me. He told me once that I am cute.” she said proudly. Calvin just gave her another smirk. “That guy ought to get himself eyeglasses. He can't distinguish those that are cure to those that aren't he said.” Mad at what he said, Kit lifted her hands, and hit him hard on his arm. It was too hard that Calvin flinched in pain. “Aiyo... do you really have to hurt me that way?” he asked as he rubbed his arm. Kit just glared at him. “And because of what you said, I'll tell Auntie Chen not to give you the chocolates I sent there a while ago. I'll tell her to give it to Edison ge instead!” she said. Calvin was surprised at what she said. “You... you sent some chocolates at my house?” he asked. Kit nodded her head. “And since you're pissing me off... I'll tell Auntie not to give some to you.” she said. She was about to get the phone, but Calvin stopped him. “Aiyo... I'm just kidding, Kit. Of course Chun likes you because you are too cute. He's just too shy to tell you how he feels.” he said. He was hoping he could change her mind about the chocolates. Kit looked at him, and slowly smiled. “Good. I'm glad that you have come to your senses.” she said. She put the box inside her bag. “Come on. We'll be late for school.” she said. Then, she took Calvin's hand and pulled him.
Calvin looked at the hand holding him, and he felt shivers running down his spine. He love it when he feels the warmth of her hand against his. He smiled to himself as he watched his best friend.
--
Kit and Calvin were walking through the lobby when a group of ten girls approached Calvin. “Calvin...” one of them called. The two paused, and then looked at the girls. “Hey, girls. What can I do for you?” he asked. They smiled at him, and then handed them their boxes of chocolates. “For you, Calvin...” the all said in unison. Calvin just stared at those boxes, and then, he looked at Kit. Kit just smiled at him as she patted his back. “Aiyo... I think you should accept their chocolates already. You've been turning them down since middle school...” she said. Calvin looked at the girls and smiled at them. “Thank you.” he said. The girls giggles at what he said, but then, Calvin pushed the boxes away from him. “But I'm sorry, I could not accept your chocolates. I'm not really fond of sweets. I hope you guys understand...” he said.
Kit saw the disappointment and sadness in the eyes of those girls. The took the boxes away from Calvin. “OK...” she heard one of them say in a low voice. The other girl looked up at Calvin and smiled. “Don't worry, Calvin. Even if you didn't accept our chocolates, you will still have our support.” she said. The other girls nodded their heads. Calvin let out that sunshiny smile of his once again. “Thank you, girls. Thank you for understanding.” he said. They watched as the girls turn to leave.
“Wei...” Kit said as she nudged Calvin. “why did you turn down their chocolates? You're such a heart breaker!” she said. Calvin sighed and then put his hand on his pocket before answering her. “Because if I accepted their chocolates, they would think that I am interested in them, although I am not.” he said. Kit shook her head in disappointment, and then folded her arms. “But still, you shouldn't have turned them down. What do you think they are feeling right now? What if I am like one of those girls that you turned down?” she asked. Calvin looked at her. “I wouldn't turn you down, Kit... not you...” he wanted to say. Then, he looked away from Kit, and he saw Chun walking towards them. He was with his friends, Toma and A Chord. “Your dream guys is here.” he said to Kit. Calvin looked at Kit, and saw her frozen in her place. He tried his best not to laugh at her, since she have always been like this whenever she sees Wu Chun. “Kit... relax, OK? It's not like he's going to eat you...” Calvin said. “I... will... give.. the... chocos... now... right?” Kit stuttered. Calvin nodded his head. He reached for her bag, and took the heart-shaped box and handed it to Kit. “Relax. Breath in and breathe out. You can give the chocolates to Chun.” he said to her. Kit looked at Calvin and smiled, then she nodded her head.
“Hey, Cal! Hey, Kit!” they heard Chun say. Calvin smiled at Chun. “Hey, Chun!” Calvin said. He looked at Kit, and she stood frozen, smiling like an idiot at Chun. Calvin gave her a nudge so as to wake her up. “H-h-hey C-c-chun! W-w-what's up?” she managed to say. Chun smiled at her. “I'm OK, Kit. I'm glad to see you today.” he said. Kit blushed at what he said. Then, he turned his attention to Calvin again. “I'll see you guys in class, OK?” he said. The two nodded their head, and watched as Chun and his friends leave. “Aiyo, Kit! Why are you always like that when Chun talks to you?” Calvin said to kit in a dismayed tone. Kit looked at him, and gave him puppy eyes. “I'm sorry... I was too... too...” “Mesmerized by his handsome face?” Kit nodded her head. Calvin sighed and shook his head. “See what happened. You lost your chance to give him your chocolates.” he said to her. Kit looked at the box she was holding. “I can give these to him. I swear I will...” she said. Calvin smirked at her as he put his arm around her. “Well, if you can't give it to him, I'm always here, ready to much on those chocolates.” he said. Kit looked up at him, and glared at him. “And I thought you were not fond of chocolates?”
--
All throughout the class, Kit was just staring at Chun. She have that chance to watch him, as she and Calvin were sitting at the back. She leaned over her table as she looked at him dreamily. “Chun...” she said in a low voice. Meanwhile, Calvin noticed that Kit is not paying attention to their teacher. “Stupid Kit...” he thought. “If Mr. Lau sees that you're not paying attention to him, he'll call on you to answer his pop quiz.” he thought. He leaned over Kit, and nudged her. Kit gave him a confused look, and Calvin pointed to their teacher using his lips. “Pay attention.” he whispered to her. Kit just nodded her head, and began to listen to the lecture.
After the class ended, Kit, took the chocolate from her bag, and then went over to Chun. As she took a step towards him, she saw Chun stood up from his seat, and went to his friends. She smiled as she watched him happily chat with them, and joke around. “Aren't you going to give him your chocolates?” Calvin asked her. Kit looked at him, and pouted. “He's still with his friends. If I gave him my chocolates, they would tease us...” she said. Calvin smirked as he folded his arms. “As if you don't want to be teased to him.” he snapped at her. “You're making this hard for me, Calvin. I want to give my chocolates to Chun... I just need to find a chance with him alone...” she said in a low voice. She continued to watch him as he laughed with his friends. “You know why I like Chun, Cal? It's because I see Jay in him. Maybe he is Jay...” she said. Calvin stared at her, and sighed. He feels hurt whenever she speaks Jay's name. “I don't think he's Jay...” he said bittely. “Because if Chun is Jay, he should've remembered his promise to you...” he said.
“Hey, Kit...” she herd someone say. She looked up, and saw Chun standing before her. “I was wondering if I could borrow your notes? I wasn't able to catch the last thing Mr. Lau have written on the board.” Chun said. Kit was stunned again that moment that Chun talked to her. “Ah... O-o-o-of c-c-c-course... Of course. Y-y-y-you can b-b-borrow my notes...” she said. As she was about to go back to her seat, Calvin, already have her notebook and he handed it to her. “Here. Make your life easier.” he said as he gave her her notebook. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. Then, she walked towards Chun and handed him his notebook. “Thanks, Kit. I'll return this to you as soon as I'm done copying it.” he said. Then, he gave her a smile before he excused himself to them.
Kit was just staring at Chun, sighing at him. She smiled to herself, feeling happy because of her encounter with him. “You forgot to give him your chocolates again.” she heard Calvin say. She looked at her hand, and saw that she was still holding that box. “Oh, no...”
--
“Wei, Chun....” A Chord said as they were taking their lunch that afternoon at the cafeteria. “I see Kit is trying to give you that chocolate. Aren't you going to accept it?” he asked. Chun looked up at him and smiled. “I want too... but...” he said. A Chord game him a confused look. “But what?” he asked. “You see, I only see Kit as a friend. She is a nice girl, and all... but I can't accept her feelings for me. Besides, I know someone who seems to be in love with her. All she have to do is open her eyes and accept his love...” Chun said. “Or is it because you're eying on someone, huh, Chun?” Toma said. Chun blushed at what he said. All of his friends teased him. “Aiyo, Toma... stop it already. OK... OK... I'm eying on someone. Stop teasing me already...” Chun said as he blushed.
What Chun didn't know was that Calvin heard the last thing that he said. “So... Chun likes someone else, and not Kit...” he thought. He doesn't know if he should be happy or not. He's happy because he doesn't have any rival when it comes to Kit anymore. Chun only sees Kit as a friends, and he likes someone else. He is sad because if Kit finds out about this, he knows she will be heart broken. “Cal!” he heard someone call him. He lookd up and saw Eric walking towards him. “I got what you asked to bring...” he said. Eric reached for his bag. He was about to take it out, when Calvin stopped him. “Not here...” he said. He looked around the place, and then pulled Eric somewhere where they could be alone.
--
“Chun...”
Chun paused while walking through the empty lobby. He looked back, and saw Ella walking towards him. Chun smiled at her. “Hey, Ella...” he said. Then, Ella took a box from her bag, and then handed it to him. Chun looked at the box, and then smiled to himself. “Is... is that for me?” he asked her. Ever since he transferred school, Chun only had his eyes on Ella. They became really close, and though they are friends, he is afraid to admit his feelings for her. He saw Ella smile at her and shook his head. “No, Chun... but I have a big favor to ask. Can you give this chocolates to Toma-chan?” she asked. The smile on his face slowly disappeared upon hearing what she said. “So, she likes Toma...” he thought. Chun forced a smile on his face and nodded his head. “Oh.. OK...” he said. “I... I'll give this to Toma if I see him.” he said. Ella smiled at him, and gave him a hug. “Thanks, Chun! I owe you one!” she said.
Kit saw Chun with Ella that moment. She saw everything – when Chun took the chocolate from her, and when Ella hugged him. She felt her heart break when she saw that scene. “So... Chun likes Ella...” she thought. As soon as Ella left, Chun turned around, and saw Kit standing before her. “Kit?” he called. He smiled as he walked towards her. “Hi...” Kit said in a low voice. She gave Chun a faint smile. “So... y-you... you like Ella?” she managed to ask. Chun was surprised at her question. “You saw everything?” he asked. Kit nodded her head. “Ella is a nice girl, Chun. I... I'm glad that you... you accepted her chocolates.” she said. Chun gave her a confused look. “What are you saying?” he asked. “I saw everything, Chun. I saw everything. I... I'm glad that... you... you and Ella...” Kit looked up at him and smiled. “I'm happy for the two of you.” she finally said. Chun smiled at her, and then gave her a hug. “Thank you, Kit... thank you...” he whispered to her. He released her, and smiled at her. He know he is lying to her, but it's better this way that hurt her more. “I... I have to go...” Kit said to him. She turned him back on him, and then ran away from him.
Chun could only watch Kit as she ran. He know he have hurt his friend because of that lie. “And I thought those chocolates are for me?” he heard Toma said to him. Chun smiled at him, and handed him his chocolates. “From Ella...” he said. Tom smiled at him as he took the box from his hand. “So... Calvin asked you again not to accept her chocolates?” Toma asked. Chun just nodded his head. “Yep. I don't know about that guy. He is in love with his best friend, and yet he is scared to admit to her.” Chun said. Toma just shook his head. “Never thought Calvin the great would resort to these kinds of things just to have those chocolates from Kit...”
--
Calvin saw Kit sitting by the stairs, staring at the heart-shaped box on her lap. “Kit?” Calvin called as walked towards him. Kit looked up at him and gave him a faint smile. “I... I wasn't too successful in giving him the chocolates...” she said to him. Calvin sat beside her, and put his arm around her. “There will be next time, Kit...” he said. Kit just shook his head. “He likes Ella, Cal... He is my prince charming, but too bad, I am not his Cinderella...” she said. Then, Calvin took the box from her lap, and opened it. “Any guy would want you to their princess, Kit. Maybe one day, you'll get to meet that guy who will love you the way that you love him.” he said. Then, he took a piece of chocolate from the box, and ate it. Calvin smiled as he ate those chocolates. “Too bad, Chun could not taste how delicious your chocolates are...” Calvin said.
Kit smiled at him as she watched him ate his chocolate. She's glad that Calvin is always around to make her smile. Sometimes, she feels guilty, for she always takes him for granted. She liked that sight of Calvin munching on all of those chocolates. He's always like this whenever she would make chocolates for Chun and fail to give it to him. “You turned down the chocolates by the other girls, and waited for mine, is that right?” she asked him. Calvin smiled at her and nodded his head. “You bet!” he said as he threw another piece on his mouth. She felt her heart best faster as she stared at him. Why didn't she notice it before? Why didn't she notice how handsome he is when he smile? Why didn't she noticed his sweetness, his protectiveness? Why didn't she noticed how he always tries his best to make her feel good? Why didn't she notice how his eyes sparkles whenever she comes his way?
Suddenly, she was seeing Calvin in a different light. She have always thought that she like Chun, and that Jay would always be inside her heart, but she failed to notice that Calvin has slowly taken her heart. She is in love with her best friend all this time, and maybe, just maybe, Calvin feels the same way for her. If he is, then she is willing to break their promise of not falling in love with each other. If he loves her, she promise to only have his eyes on him.
“Done!” she heard Calvin say. She looked inside the box, and found it empty. “Can't wait to get home and finish all the chocolates you made. I just hope Edison ge won't find it, or he'll eat it all.” Calvin said as he laugh. Kit smiled at him, and then she rested her head on his shoulder. “Cal...” she said. Calvin looked down at her, and smiled lovingly at her. “Thank you for making me feel good.” she said. Calvin put his arm around her again, and embraced her. “Anything for you...” he said. “My princess...” he added silently. He felt happy being this close to Kit. He love the feeling of being needed by her, that feeling that he is her knight in shining armor. He love her very much, and he hope he could find to tell her how he feels.
He just hope that when she finds out that he is in love with her, she wouldn't get mad at him for breaking his promise of not falling in love with her...

Chapter 2 – Love Songs
She made a careful step. Her hand was trying to sense if there would be any object that would block her way. Her body turn to a familiar direction, and soon, she have reached her destination. She reached for the door knob, and gently opened the door. She walked slowly, until her knee bumped into a small wooden bench. She smiled, and then sat on the bench. Her hands trailed through the ivory keys of the piano. Then, her fingers did it's trick, and began to play a beautiful tune. As she played her favorite tune, her mind took her back to a time not so long ago...
--
The last thing she remembered was the truck coming towards their direction, the loud screeching that almost deafened her ear, the crash of the glass right in front of her. She remembered her loud shrieks, the cry for help. Then, it was darkness.
She doesn't know how long she have been asleep. When she became conscious, she heard the beeping of the machine beside her. “She was lucky that she have survived this ordeal...” she heard someone say. She tried to get up, but her body was too sore for her to do it. Even the simple opening of her eye lids seems to be a very hard thing to do. “But we could not be sure until... until she wakes up...” she heard the doctor said. “What happened?” she thought. She tried to move her body, but she felt that her body was too heaver for her to move. “Mom...” she called. She heard footsteps coming up to her. Someone took her hand, that familiar warmth let her know that it was her mom that's beside her. “Honey...” she said. She slowly opened her eyes, but she couldn't see anything. Everything was dark. “Mom... can someone turn the lights on...” she said in a frail voice. “It's too dark... I... I'm scared of dark...” she added. She heard her mom gasp. Then, she heard her soft sobs right beside her. “Mom?” she called again. She blinked her eyes, hoping she could see some light. But still, it was darkness that she sees. “Mom... its too dark... I can't see...” she said again. “Hannah...” she heard her mom call her. She felt her mom held her hand tight. With her cries, she finally understands...
She was already blind. And it's the end of her dreams.
--
A month after she was released from the hospital, her parents decided to send her to a facility that would be able to take care of her, and to help her get through her blindness. Her parents told her they are sending her there for her good, but she wanted to think they are throwing her away for she is no use for them anyway. Hannah Tan, the promising pianist and the musical prodigy, is now a useless, blind girl. All her dreams have shattered after that accident. Her scholarship at the Royal Academy for Music was canceled because of what happened to her. And now, her parents are throwing her out of their home.
“Hannah...” she heard her mom called as soon as she settled in her room. “We're leaving now...” she said. Hannah remained unmoved. “Hannah...” she heard her mom call again. She heard footsteps coming up to her. “You know this is for the best...” her mom said. “If you know what's best for me, then you and dad would take care of me. You will not throw me out of our house.” she said in a bitter tone. “We talked about this, honey, remember? You know very well that dad and I are both working, and no one will take care of you... we only did this for you...” she said. She shook her head, and turned away from them. “You hated me.” she said in a firm tone. “You're only doing this because you hate me for being blind. It wasn't my fault that the truck us... leaving me like this. It wasn't my fault that your stupid son is too reckless! It wasn't my fault, but you can't even forgive me for losing my sight!” she shouted at her. There was a silence, then she heard her mom's sob. “Hannah... we're not blaming you for everything...” her mom said in a low voice. “Maybe you are not, but you are punishing me... simply because I became blind. It shouldn't be me who's supposed to be blind. It should be your stupid son. And for the rest of my life, I will hate Christopher for what he have done. If it wasn't for him, then maybe I wouldn't end up like this. If it wasn't for him, then maybe I wouldn't lose my scholarship. He is the reason why I can no longer play the piano. He's the reason why I can no longer have my dream...” she said in a furious tone.
She felt her mom released her hand, and kiss her on the forehead. She doesn't care anymore. They have abandoned her like a little kitten, leaving her all alone in an unknown place. She thought that it would be her family that would help her cope with what happened to her, but she was wrong. They left her now that she needed them most. As she heard the door close behind her, tears began to fall from her eyes. For a month, she was trying to be strong in front of her family, but now, she's at her weakest. “This will be the first and last time I will cry...” she thought. “I'll prove to them that I don't need them.. not anymore...”
--
“Mom...” Christopher called as soon as she closed the door of Hannah's room. She was surprised to see his son. “Chris...” she said in a low voice. “How... how long have you been here?” she asked. Christopher lowered his head, not answering his mother's question. “You... you heard everything?” she asked. Christopher slowly nodded his head. “She hate me mom... she really hates me...” he said guiltily. He admits, it was his fault that Hannah became blind. If only he didn't bring Hannah to their cousin's party, and drank too much, maybe they wouldn't have a car accident. Maybe his sister wouldn't hate him this much. It was hurting him, because they have always been close. He never thought that his recklessness would cause his sister to hate him this much. “Chris... Hannah doesn't mean what she said....” her mom said. “But mom, because of me, she will not be able to play the piano anymore. She's right, I should be the one who's in her place. Mom, I regret everything I have done. If only I could give my own eyes to her...” he said. She saw the tears in his son's eyes as he speaks. She moved closer to him, hugged him tight. “Chris... in time, Hannah will forgive you. She will realize that everything that happened is an accident. We sent her here, because this is for the best... we want her to live a full life and to learn to rely on herself that's why we sent her here.” she said. She let go of his son, and smiled at him. “One day, everything will be back in it's place. Don't worry Chris, one day, she will forgive you...” she said. Christopher nodded his head, and sadly looked at Hannah's door.
--
Hannah heard a soft knock on her door. She chose to ignore it and continued to try and get some sleep. But then, the knock became louder. She sat up on her bed, and then she heard to door open. “Hi!” she herd someone say. “Who are you?” she asked in an angry tone. “I'm Arron. I'm the music teacher here. You must be the new student, right?” he asked. She heard his footsteps coming up to her. “Will you get out?” she said to him. “But, you see... it's time for music class. Come on, it's going to be fun...” Arron said. “I don't want to attend any of your stupid class. I just want to be alone, so please leave me in peace.” she said in a firm tone. “But you'll be missing half of your life if you -”
Before Arron could continue what he said, Hannah threw her pillow at him, out of anger. “Get out!” she shouted at him. “Leave me alone! I don't need anyone!” she shouted at him again. She took her pillow, and threw it at him again. Arron covered himself with his arm as the pillow flew onto him. “OK, OK, I got the message. You don't have to be that mean...” he said. Arron got out of her room, and as soon as Hannah's sure that he's gone, she went back to bed. Then, she heard the door open again. “Are you sure you don't want to go to our music class?” she heard the annoying guy said. Hannah sat up on her bed again. “Get out!” she shouted at him.
--
The next day, Hannah was taking a stroll at the lobby. At one room, she heard a beautiful melody being played on the piano. She paused, and began to listen to it. She smiled to herself as she listened to that tune being played on the piano, then at the thought of not being able to play the piano again, he smile disappeared. It was replaced by a tear forming in her eyes. Music has been her life. Playing the piano is what she does best. After the accident that took her eyesight, she felt that everything was taken away from her. It was the only thing that's making he whole, and now that she couldn't play it anymore, she was nothing but an empty shell.
She heard the music stop. Then, she felt someone standing beside her. “Who are you?” she asked. “It's me...” she heard a familiar voice said. She remembered him as the guy who barge into her room yesterday, asking her to join their music class. “I can see that you've been listening to me playing the piano, huh?” Arron teased. He turned to a smile, amused upon seeing the irritation in her face. “Why? Don't I have the right to listen to anyone playing the piano? I maybe blind, but I'm not deaf.” she said defensively. Then, she heard him laugh. “What?” she asked in an annoyed tone. “I thought you were the kind of girl who wouldn't appreciate music. But when I saw you by the door, smiling to yourself while I'm playing the piano... it changed the way I thought about you.” Arron said. Then, she felt him touch her hand. In an instant, she pulled her hand away from him. “Just as I thought...” she heard him say. “Do you play the piano before?” he asked. “It's none of your business!” she snapped at him. Arron turn into a smile again. “I bet you miss playing the piano...” he said. Hannah shook her head, and then began to walk away from him. She was halfway through, when she tripped on to something. She almost fell on the floor, good thing Arron rushed up to him and helped her up. “Are you OK?” he asked. Hannah only looked away from him.
“I guess you still don't understand why you are here at the center...” Arron said. “What is there to understand? My parents threw me out here because I am no use to them anymore...” she said bitterly. Arron smiled at her, and shook his head. “No, it's not like that. The blind are sent here, so that they could learn to be independent... they are here to learn to live without their sight, and to trust their other senses, especially their heart... I know, one day you will be able to accept your condition, and learn to trust your instincts in everything you do.” he said. “You're only saying that because you are not the one who got blind. It's easy for you to say that, because you still have your eyes, and you still can play the piano...” Hannah said. She took his hands away from him, and walked away from him. Arron could only watch Hannah as she leaves. “Maybe I can still play the piano...” he thought sadly. “But not for long...”
--
Days have passed by, and Hannah have slowly opened up. She attended some of her classes at the center, except for the music class. “Hannah jie!” she heard a little girl call her. She looked at the direction where she heard the voice, and smile to herself. It was the voice from a little girl named Rosemarie, who, like her, is also blind, and studying at the center. “Rosemarie... what can I do for you?” she asked. “Hannah jie, you promised me today that you will come with me to our music class.” the little girl said. Hannah knelt down at her, and gave her a smile. “I'm sorry, Rosemarie I still have a lot of things to do...” she said. She felt the little girl frown at her. “But jie, you promised me! You have to come to our music class today!” Rosemarie said. Before she could further say anything, the little girl took her hand, and pulled her towards the music room.
As they got nearer to the music room, Hannah could hear the someone playing the piano, while the other kids were singing a happy song. She heard Rosemarie open the door, and the music stopped. “Rosemarie!” she heard a familiar voice say. “Arron ge, sorry for being late.” Rosemarie said, giving Arron a toothy smile. Arron smiled back at her, and then looked up at Hannah, who was standing behind her. “I see you brought a friend with you...” Arron said to her. Rosemarie nodded her head. “Arron ge, this is Hannah jie. She's new here.” Rosemarie said. Arron walked up to Hannah, and then took her hand. “I finally know your name. I'm Arron. Nice meeting you, Hannah.” he said. “I... I have to go...” Hannah said as she took her hand from him. Arron's suddenly felt sad at the thought of her leaving again. Now that she's here, he doesn't want her to go. “Can you stay?” he asked. He held his hand again, and stared at her face. “Please?” he asked again. “Jie...” he heard Rosemarie said. He looked down at the little girl, and saw her tugging Hannah's skirt. “You promised me. Please stay...” Rosemarie said. Hannah put her hand on her head, and brushed her hair. “I... I guess it wouldn't hurt to stay awhile...” she said. Arron turned into a smile upon hearing what she said. “Really? T-that's great!” Arron said.
He lead the two girls to their seat, then went back in front of the piano. He could feel his heart beating faster with the thought that Hannah is in his class. But then, he have to keep himself calm. “What do you want to sing next?” he asked his students. “Arron ge! Can we sing the one about the rainbow again?” he heard one of the kids said. He looked back at them and smiled. “Yes, Arron ge! I want to sing that one too!” another one said. Then, he heard the other kids shout in agreement. Arron turned to the piano. He placed his fingers on the ivory key. As he began to play his favorite tune, he and his students began to sing
Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high There's a land that I heard of Once in a lullaby Somewhere over the rainbow Skies are blue And the dreams that you dare to dream Really do come true Someday I wish upon a star And wake up where the cloud are far behind me Where troubles melt like lemons drops Way above the chimney tops Thats where you'll find me Somewhere over the rainbow Blue birds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Why, then oh why can't I?
Hannah smiled as she listened to Arron sing and play the piano. She never thought Arron could sing well, and play the piano well. Hearing Arron play piano, she also have this urge to come up to his side and play the piano with him. Somehow, she felt sad at that thought. She could never play the piano, especially now that she have became blind.
--
“Goodbye Arron ge! See you tomorrow!” the kids said as they went out of the room. “Goodbye!” Arron said as he waved at them. “Take care, OK?” he shouted at them again. As soon as his students are out of sight, he turned to Hannah, and smiled. “I think I have to go to...” Hannah said as she stood up from her seat. She took her walking stick. “Hannah! Can you... can you stay?” Arron asked. Arron looked at her face, and he could see the confusion written all over her face. “But, why? The music class is over, right?” she asked. “Can... can we talk? For a while? I... I was hoping we could be friends...” Arron said shyly. Hannah find herself smiling at what he said. She could also feel her cheeks turn crimson. All her life, no guys have dared to befriend her because she is the nerdy type, and Arron is the first one to befriend her. “What are we going to talk about?” she asked, “Anything... about you... about music... if you want I can teach you how to play the piano.” Arron said. “Wei, can you not joke around. How can I play the piano? Can't you see that I'm blind?” Hannah said.
Arron walked towards her, and then took her hands. “You have such lovely hands. I be these hands are made to play the piano. It would be a waste if you will not play the piano again just because you're blind. Even if you cannot see, you can still do things that a normal person can do.” he said. Hannah sighed, and smiled sadly at him. “I know you're only trying to cheer me up, Arron. Am I really that obvious that I miss playing the piano?” she asked. Arron smiled and nodded his head. “I can see it in your face. You miss it very much...” he said. “I... I don't know how I can still play, now that I'm...” Hannah's voice began to falter as she lowered her head. She felt Arron's hand touch her chin, and lift her head up. She could feel that Arron was staring into her face. “Hannah, you don't have to see to be able to play music. All you need is your heart, and you will be able to make beautiful melodies.” he said.
Arron pulled her, and then she found herself sitting beside him in front of the piano. “Now, put your hands on the keys...” Arron told her. She did as she said. “Then, I want you to play any tune that you can hear.” he said. Hannah became confuse at what he said. “Any tune?” she asked. Arron closed his eyes, and then smiled to himself. “Yes... that tune...” he said. “Can you hear that melody being played softly by the wind?” he asked. “I... I can't hear anything...” “But I can clearly hear it...” “How could you hear it while I can't?” “Use your heart to be able to hear that melody...” As Arron placed his hands on the ivory keys, he began to play a beautiful music that she have not heard before. As he played, Hannah closed her eyes, and listened to him. Then, she heard the music stop playing. “It's your turn... to play...” she heard Arron said. She placed her hand on the piano keys, her fingers trembling as she touched it. “I... I don't know how...” she said. “Is there any song that you know by heart?” he asked. Hannah slowly nodded her head. “If you know that song by heart, then you would be able to play it... why don't you give it a try?” he said.
Hannah pressed the piano key, and a long sound echoed throughout the room. Arron looked at Hannah, and smiled at her. “You can do it, Hannah...” he said. She pressed another key, and another sound came out. She tried to figure out which key to press to get the note she needed for her song, but then she pressed on the wrong key. “It's OK to make mistakes... you can try again...” he said. Her hand moved, trying to find the first note, and once she found it, she played it. She pressed another key, and slowly, she was playing her favorite song. Arron listened to her as she tried to play her song. He smiled to himself, feeling contented that he was able to make Hannah play the piano again. He knows it will take a long time before he could help her gain back her confidence in making music. “You did it...” Arron said as soon as she played the last note. “See, you were able to play it. You just have to practice, and have faith and patience. Who knows, one day, you'll become a very famous pianist.” he said. Hannah smiled sadly, and lowered her head. “It's exactly my dream... but after the accident, I have to let go of that dream...” she said in a low voice. Arron took her hand, and squeezed it. “I'll help you make that dream come true again...” he said. “I promise you that, Hannah...”
--
Christopher found her sister sitting at the bench. He walked towards her, and placed the bouquet of flowers he was holding onto her lap. “Who are you?” Hannah asked. Christopher knelt down in front of her, staring into his sister's confused face. It was breaking his heart seeing Hannah like this. His sister is once a cheerful lady, who always have the reason to smile. Now, all he could see in her face is anger. Her eyes used to be filled with emotions, but now it was looked blank. She had the most beautiful eyes in their family, and now her eyes are gone, and it was all his fault.
He didn't utter a word at her to let her know his presence. At this time, he knows his sister hated him so much. If only he wasn't stubborn that night, then maybe this wouldn't have happened to her. If only he didn't insist on driving her home form the party after drinking himself to death, then maybe she wouldn't have been blind. It was his fault that his sister's life was shattered, and that she would not be able to fulfill her life long dream. “Who are you?” she called again. Christopher stood up, and left silently. There is no use if he would tell her that it was him, his brother. She would shoo her away anyways. He stood up, and before he walks away from her, he stared into her face.
As he made a few steps, He saw Arron coming up to him. “You must be her brother...” Arron said. Christopher let out a faint smile and nodded his head. “Her only brother.... the one who caused her to be like that...” he said. Then, he walked away, leaving Arron alone. Arron watched Christopher as he leaves, then he looked back at Hannah. “Hannah...” he called as he walked towards her. “Arron... did... did you see the one who gave me these flowers?” she asked. Arron nodded his head. “Yes, he said he is your brother.” he said. At what he said, Hannah fell sad. She took away the flowers from her. Arron sat beside her, and took the flowers at her side. “Lovely flowers. Purple daisies, huh? You must have liked purple daisies a lot...” he commented. Hannah looked away from him. “Chris knows I love purple daisies...” she said softly. “Your brother, he looked sad when I saw him. Did the two of you talked?” he asked. Hannah shook her head. “I didn't realize it was him. He just laid the flowers on my lap, he didn't even answered who he is...” she said. “Did something happened between you and your brother?” Arron asked again. “I despise my brother...” Hannah said in a hurt tone. “He is the reason why I became blind.”
Arron stared at Hannah, and watched her as she shed tears. “Hannah...” he said in a low voice. He took her hand, and held it. “Can't you forgive your brother?” he asked. Hannah shook her head. “Not now. He is the reason why I can no longer play the piano. He is the reason why I am in this d**n place. How can I forgive him?” she said. “I still believe that everything has its reason... maybe God have better plans for you, that's why He made you blind.” he said. Hannah shook her head again. “If he hadn't got drunk and insisted on driving... if only he didn't forced me to go home with him, then this wouldn't have happened...” “But all the things that happened, it was an accident, Hannah...”
Arron put the the flowers on Hannah's lap. “No matter what, he is still your brother. You have to forgive him, because as I can see, he regrets what he have done... life is too short to hate someone, especially your own brother. If you will continue to hate him, you might lose him, and you'll end up regretting it.” he said.
--
The next day, Hannah went on her way to the music room to meet Arron. Along her way, she tripped, making her fall flat on the ground. She sat up on the floor, trying to find her walking stick, but it seems to have slid away from him. Not far away from her, Christopher stood before her. Her walking stick landed on his feet. He knelt down, and picked it up. He walked towards his sister, and then helped her up, giving her her walking stick as soon as she gained her balance. “Thank you...” she said softly. Christopher smiled to her. Just like before, he stared at her sister. “Who... who are you?” she asked. Christopher did not utter a word. He turned to leave her sister, when he heard someone call his name. “Christopher!” He looked back, and saw Arron walking to his direction. He looked back, and saw the confused look in his sister's face. “C-chris?” she asked. He looked up at Arron, and saw him smiling at him. Then, he nodded his head, assuring him that it's OK to let her know who she is. “I... I am here...” he said in a low voice. Then she saw him turn into a smile. “Ge...” she called.
Upon hearing her call him, he rushed up to her, and hugged her. “Mei...” he said tearfully. Hannah smiled to herself, and hugged her brother. “Ge...” she said. “I'm sorry... I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry that I caused you to be like this...” Christopher whispered. He felt his tears falling from his eyes as he looked at her. Hannah reached up to his face. Upon feeling his tears, she wiped it away. “Ge... I'm sorry if I got mad at you... it was all an accident, and it's not your fault...” she said, smiling at him. Christopher cupped her face, and smiled at her. “Hannah...” he whispered. “I'm sorry for hating you. I forgot that you are my only brother, and my best friend. I forgot that if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have the courage to chase my dreams. I'm sorry if I disappointed you...” she said. “Does this mean that you have forgiven me, that you're not mad at me anymore?” Christopher asked. Hannah smiled at him sweetly, and nodded her head. “I can't stay mad at your forever, right?” she said. Christopher smiled at her again, and gave his sister another hug. He missed her, and this is all he ever wanted.
--
“I'm glad that you have forgiven your brother...” Arron said as he pressed another key of the piano. Hannah smiled as she trailed her fingers on the ivory key. “Thank you for enlightening me...” she said. “I was thinking... I should not blame him for everything. Christopher is my older brother, and my best friend. He was always there, encouraging me in everything I do. He was the one who taught me to play my first note... and convinced me that I can be a great pianist in the future. And besides, I miss him...” she said. Arron looked at her, and smiled. “I know you do. Because I can see it in your eyes...” he said. Hannah got confused with what he said. “What do you mean? I'm blind, and... how.... how can you see it in my eyes?” she asked. “Have you heard of the saying that the eyes are the windows to your soul?” he asked. Hannah slowly nodded her head. “When I look into your eyes, I can see everything that you feel – your frustration, your anger, your happiness, your confusion... even your loneliness. There are times that I see you smiling, but your eyes says otherwise...” he explained. Hannah let out a faint smile. “So, I guess I have a very expressive eyes. I'm used to hiding them behind my eye glasses...” she said. Arron smiled and nodded his head. “You have a very expressive eyes... and the most beautiful pair of eyes I have seen in my entire life...” he said.
Hannah turned to his direction, and Arron could only stare at her confused face. He saw her cheeks turn pink. Then, he smiled to himself He love seeing her like this. “What are you saying? My eyes aren't pretty...” she said nervously. “I know you'd say that. Maybe for you, it's not... but for me it is... Just by looking into your eyes, I feel like being lost in it forever...” he said. She felt her heart skip a beat. She turned away from him, not wanting him to see her blush even more. “Aiyo, stop it.” she said. “And I thought you're going to teach me to play the piano today? Why are you saying nonsense things?” she asked. “Why should I teach you? You already know how to play.” Arron said. Hannah turned to him again, and saw the confusion written across her face. “But... but I'm not yet that good...” she said. “I've taught you were the keys are. I bet you already know it by heart. What you have to do now is play the piano using your heart...” he said. “So...” he continued. “Can you play my favorite song?” Hannah smiled and nodded her head. “As long as you sing it, I will play your song.” she said.
--
Hannah walked through the lobby alone, when she heard a voice calling her. “Hannah jie!” She easily recognized it as Rosemarie's voice. “Rosemarie?” she called. She felt the little girl come up to her. “Isn't it supposed to be your music class today?” she asked. “It is, jie... but Arron ge is not around. I heard he's sick...” the girl said. She could sense the sadness in the girl's tone. She knelt down, and tried to cheer her up. “Don't worry, Arron ge will be fine. He'll be here tomorrow...” she said. She felt Rosemarie shaking her head. “You don't understand, jie... when Arron ge gets sick, he'll be gone for a long time. If he's gone for a long time, then it means that we won't have music classes. All of us here are looking forward to his class...” she said in a sad tone. She began to be worried about her friend. Why would he be gone for a long time? Suddenly, she felt a pain her heart a the thought of not being able to see Arron for days. Her heart ache at the thought that he will be gone for good, and that she will not be able to be with him ever again. She was starting to miss him already.
Then, Hannah turn to smile at Rosemarie. “How about this....” she said. “What if I take over Arron ge's class? I can teach you and your classmates how to play the piano...” she said. “Really?” Rosemarie asked happily. Hannah smiled, and nodded her head. “Yay! Thanks Hannah jie!”
--
Days passed by, and Hannah still have no news about Arron. From what she heard, he's still sick, and it will take a long time for him to come back to the center. Somehow, she felt in her heart that she was starting to miss him. She missed having deep conversations with him. She missed sitting with him in front of the piano, and playing a tune with him. She missed it when he teaches her to play the piano, and ask him to play his favorite tune. She missed his gentle voice, and his warm touch. She missed him.
It was another lonely afternoon when she passed by the music room. She heard someone playing a tune, so she stopped and listened to it. “Arron?” she thought to herself. Then, she heard a familiar voice sing.
Ti amo Ti quiero 每一天都要愛上你 (měi yī tiān dōu yào ài shàng nǐ) (I want be in love with you everyday) 想著你 沉入夢境 (xiǎng zhe nǐ chéng rù mèng jìng)(Sinking into a dream thinking of you) 一張眼 一清醒 (yī zhāng yǎn yī qīng xǐng) (As soon as I open my eyes and awaken) 第一個想到又是你 (dì yī ge xiǎng dào yòu shì nǐ) (The first thing I think of is you) Sarang Hae, And I love you 我每天都要愛上你 (wǒ měi tiān dōu yào ài shàng nǐ) (I want to be in love with you everyday) 少一天 就會遺憾 (shǎo yī tiān jiù huì yí hàn) (One less day would be a regret) 陪著你的光陰 (péi zhe nǐ de guāng yīn) (Spending time with you) 這樣都不算蹉跎 (zhè yàng dōu bú suàn cuō tuó) (Like this is not a waste)
She listened to his sad song, and felt a tear from her eye. Arron's back, and she's happy. She slowly opened the door, and as the door opened, Arron looked at her. “Hannah...” he called in a soft voice. He stood up, and slowly walked up to her. “Arron... you're back...” she whispered. She immediately rushed up to him, and hugged him tight. Then, she cried. Arron stroked her head. “Ssshhh... don't cry now... I'm here...” he whispered to her. Hannah closed her eyes as she cried. She thought she was going to lose him. She thought that he will never come back for her. But he's here with her now. “I... I thought you left me... I... I'm scared to lose you, Arron...” she said. Arron hugged her, as he continued to stroke her hair. “Don't worry, Hannah... I'm here now. I will never ever leave you, I promise you that...” he said.
He felt a lump in his throat after saying those words to Hannah. He was lying to her, when he knew that a day will come that he will leave Hannah for good. His lips quiver, and then a tear rolled from his own eyes. “I will be here for you, no matter what...” he said. He wished in his heart that he could keep that promise to her, he wished that he could be by her side until that day that she will have her confidence back again, but it wouldn't be possible anymore. He looked down at Hannah, and cupped her chin. She looked into her eyes, and smiled sadly to himself. He missed staring into her big black orbs. He missed seeing her smile happily. He leaned to her forehead, and continued to stare at her. He love this girl. He love her the moment he laid his eyes on her. When he saw how broken she is the first time he saw her, he felt the urge to help her out, to bring back her confidence and go back to her old self. He could see her progress, but it's too bad that he will not be here long enough to see her play on stage again.
He love her. If he could ask God, he would ask for more time to be with Hannah. He wanted to tell her everything that's inside his heart. He wanted to grow old with her, and be her eyes. He wants to be the source of her courage and confidence. He wanted to be her everything. But with his condition, he knows that wouldn't happen anymore.
--
They sat in front of the piano. She leaned over his shoulder, as he played a song. 'That's beautiful...” Hannah said as soon as Arron is through. “I have a confession to make...” he said. Then, he looked at her and smiled. “I was able to finish that song because of you...” he said. He saw her lips curve into a smile. “Because of me?” she asked. She felt him nod his head. “Before you came into my life, I was trying to make this song. But each time I press the keys, the note seems not to fit the music I'm trying to create...” he sad. Hannah smiled at him, and let out a faint laugh. “So, can I say that this is my song?” she asked. “Yes. It's your song...” Arron said.
Hannah turned away from him. Arron gazed at her, and then held her hand. “It's your song. It's the tune that keeps on playing on my mind since the day I saw you. As long as you hear it, it means that I will always be by your side.” he said. Hannah felt a pain in her heart. It's as if she will lose Arron any time soon. At that thought, she wanted to cry. She doesn't want Arron to leave her, for she have learned to depend on him. “You're not leaving me, right?” she asked in a cracked voice. “What.... what if one day... What if one day I have to leave you...” he asked. Hannah turned to him, and saw the fury in her eyes Her eyes were already filled with tears. “You promised me...” she said. “You said you will never leave me. You promised me!” she shouted at him.
Arron reached for her, and cupped her cheeks with the palm of his hand. He stared sadly on her face. “Hannah, there will come a time that the people important to you will have to leave you. Not because they get tired of you, but because of circumstances. If I ever leave you, it's not because I want to, but I am left with no choice but to go. If I ever leave you, you have to stay strong. You have to keep on smiling, and be confident. I may not be with you, physically, but I will be with you in your memories.” he said softly. Then, he wiped the tears in her eyes. “I don't want to leave you....” he thought. “I wish God would hear my prayers, so that I can be with you forever...” he thought.
“Arron, I'm scared...” Hannah said. “I'm scared if you leave me...” she said softly. Arron felt the tears falling from his eyes again. “Don't be scared, Hannah. Put me in your heart, and I will always be with you. As long as you remember me, I will be with you.” he said. “You were my only friend... if... if you leave me, I will be alone again...” she whispered. Arron shook his head. “You won't be alone anymore. You are not alone. You have your parents, you have a brother... you are a sweet and gentle girl, I know one day you will gain friends who will treasure you the most. Who knows, you might find someone who will love you...” he said. He pulled her closer to him, and closed his eyes. He made a silent prayer for the girl in his arm. “Dear God...” he prayed silently. “If I can't be with her, and she can't be with me... please give her someone who can love her as much as I do...”
--
Hannah sat in front of the piano, as she waited for Arron to come. Then, she felt someone put a bouquet of flowers on her lap. “Chris?” she called. Then, she heard a familiar voice laugh. “Can only Chris give your purple daisies?” Arron asked. She turned into a smile as she heard his voice. “Arron!” she said. She ran her fingers through the petals, and smiled to herself. “I bet these flowers are beautiful.” she said. Arron smiled, and nodded her head. “They are. They're as beautiful as you.” Arron said. Hannah shook her head, and smiled at him. “I'm not pretty...” she said. Arron smiled at her, and shook his head. “You are beautiful, Hannah. You're beautiful inside and out.” he said. “I don't think I am...” she said. “You have to believe in yourself, Hannah. You are beautiful, and you will always be beautiful. You had the prettiest pair of eyes I have seen, the softest hands I have ever touched. You have the most beautiful and the most gentle voice I have ever heard.” he said.
She could feel herself blushing again. “You're flattering me...” she said shyly. “I'm only telling the truth.” he answered. “Why is it that you always see the good side in everything?” Hannah asked. “Why shouldn't I? There are a lot of beautiful and good things in this world, that none of us ever appreciated, Like the sound of the rain when it falls, the dried maple leaf being flown away by the wind, the butterflies that lands on small flowers, the children's laughter... a lot of things. Those little and simple things, I appreciate them the most. We should, because when they're all gone, we might never see, hear or feel it ever again.” he said. Hannah stared at him as he speaks. Then, she smiled at him again. “I wish I could see the world through your eyes, so I could see how beautiful it is...” she said. “I have never appreciated those little things when I still have my sight. I promise, when the day comes that I will be able to see again, I will do my best to see the beauty in everything...” she said. Arron put his arm around her, and smiled at her. “I know one day, you will be able to see again. You just have to trust in God.” he said. Hannah nodded her head, and then she leaned on his shoulder.
Arron smiled as she looked at the girl he loves. As he looked away, he felt a pain in his chest. He swallowed hard, trying to catch his breath, but the pain he is feeling is too strong that he couldn't even breathe. Hannah felt something was wrong with Arron. She looked up with him worriedly. “Arron, is there anything wrong?” she asked. Arron shook his head. He didn't want to worry her even more. “I... I'm OK...” he tried to speak. He clutched his fest, and put it on his chest. He was hoping that it would make it better, but he could still feel the pain in his heart. Hannah knows that he's lying. She put her arms on his back, and rubbed it. “Arron...” she called. Her tears were falling again. She felt helpless for not being able to help her friend. Arron tried to stand up, but his knees became weak that he wasn't able to balance himself. Then, he fell on the floor. Hannah stood up, and rushed to Arron's side. “Arron!” she cried. Arron was trying his best to be strong, but as his breath becomes slower and the pain he's feeling became stronger, he felt even more weaker. “Hannah...” he managed to mutter. “Tell me what's wrong!” she panicked. “Tell me what I can do to help you... please, Arron...tell me what to do... don't do this to me!” she shouted at him. Her tears cascaded endlessly in her eyes. Arron did not speak anymore. Before he could speak again, he lost his consciousness. He laid helplessly on the floor. “Arron!” Hannah shouted in panic. She shook him to wake him up, but he did not respond to her. “Help!” she shouted. “Help us! Please!” she shouted again. She placed Arron's head on her lap, and then cried as she touched his face. “Arron, hang on... don't leave me, please...” she whispered to him. Then, she began to cry for help again. “Help! Anyone! Help us!”
--
Hannah sat on the waiting room of the hospital. It has been three hours since they rushed him to the hospital, and she have not heard from anyone, including Arron's parents. “Mei...” she heard a familiar voice call. It was her brother, Christopher. “Ge...” she called. She felt him sat beside him. “Have you heard anything about him? What happened to him? Is Arron going to be OK?” she asked. Christopher looked away from his sister, trying his best not to cry. “Ge... how is Arron?” she asked again. “Mei... I... I think it would... be... better if... if you see him first...” he said. He looked back at her, and saw her face lighten up. Just seeing her smile this way made him confused whether to tell her the truth about Arron or not. “I can see him?” she asked. Christopher nodded his head. “You can see him...” he said.
Christopher led her to Arron's room. Somehow, he was thankful that his sister is blind, for she wouldn't have to see him in his weak state. He only learned Arron's condition a while ago, before he approached his sister. Since he was young, he had a weak heart. Though he had an operation in the past, it didn't made his condition better. His previous attack before this last one almost took his life, but he was a strong guy who fought death. He have been warned before that his next seizure maybe fatal, and the doctors were right. He had another seizure while he's with Hannah, and there's nothing they can do for him now.
Arron slowly opened his eyes, and saw Hannah standing by his bed. He let out a weak smile. “Hannah...” she called. Hannah knelt beside him, and held his hand. “Arron...” she said, smiling at him. “You worried me. You worried me a lot...” she said. “I'm sorry, Hannah...” he answered in a weak tone. He let go of her hand, and then caressed her cheek. He knows he doesn't have much time left in this world, and he wanted to embed in his memories the face of the girl he loves. “Remember when I asked you, what if one day, I will have to leave you?” he asked. Hannah paused, and then she nodded her head. “I know I promised to be always by your side... that I will never leave you. I... I'm sorry... if I... I have to break that promise I made to you...” he said weakly. Hannah felt the tears beginning to well up from her eyes again. “Arron... you... you're not going to leave me. The doctors could do something for you...” she said. Arron gently shook his head. “They did their best... and... and I don't want to burden... anyone else... God... He... He's already calling... me... to be... your angel...” he said.
She bit her lips as she let the tears fall from her eyes. “Arron, don't say that. Be strong... you always say that to me. Why can't you be strong now?” she asked him. “I am, Hannah... the mere fact... that... I'm still... here... with you...” He closed his eyes, and then held on tight to Hannah. “When I'm gone... promise me... promise me you... you will be... a strong girl... promise... me... promise me.... you'll have faith in everything... promise me... you will... play... piano... with all your... heart... promise... me... you will remember... my song for you... and that... I... will... always... be in... your... heart...” he said. Hannah nodded her head. “I promise you that, Arron...” she said.
He let out another weak smile. “I thank God for... letting me meet you... my... life... feels complete... now that you're in... my life...” he said weakly. “Thank you for everything, Arron... thank you for putting up with me all these time. Thank you for teaching me to play the piano again, and for making me feel confident....” she said tearfully. Arron just nodded his head. “I love you, Hannah... I'll always will...” he said Then, his head hung low. Hannah felt his hand fell from her grasp.
Finally, Arron is gone.
Her tears cascaded her eyes with that realization. “Arron...” she cried. “I love you too, Arron... can you hear me? I love you too...” she cried. She took his hand, and rested her cheek on his palm. “I love you too... “ she whispered to him. She was hoping that somehow, Arron was able to hear what she have said.
--
A year after her accident, and three months after Arron's death. Incidentally, it was also Valentine's day.
“Mei...” Christopher called from her room. He walked inside her room, only to find his sister gone. He sighed, and smiled to himself, and then he shook his head. “That sister of mine...” he thought. Three days ago, Hannah was sent to the hospital for her eye transplant. After Arron's death, she learned that he donated his eyes for her. It was fate, for after several tests, it was found out that his eyes were compatible to hers. She considered it as the most beautiful gift that she received from the man she loves.
He looked up to the ceiling, and sighed. “Arron, that stubborn sister of mine is gone again... can you watch over her?” he said. Then, he laughed. He knows exactly where his sister is, but he decided not to follow her. She needed this time alone. He knows that his sister have been missing Arron again, and the only way for her to ease herself, is to play his song on the piano.
--
Danson looked back, and he tried his best to run away. Though he's still weak, he did his best to get out of his room, and hopefully, to escape from the hospital. When he looked in front of him, he saw a girl who fell on the floor. He immediately rushed up to her, and helped her up. “Are you OK?” he asked. The girl turned to him, and smiled. He saw that her eyes were bandaged, and he guessed that she had an operation. “I'm OK...” she replied. As he looked at her smiling face, he suddenly felt mesmerized by her. Maybe without the bandage on her eyes, he bet she's even more prettier. “Wei... I guess you came from an operation. Why are you wandering around the hospital?” he asked. “You're also a patient here... why are you wandering around as well?” she asked him back. Danson gave the girl a confused look. “How did you know?” he asked. “I felt your tag. I have one too!” she said gleefully, showing him her tag. Danson looked at his arm, and laughed at seeing his tag. “You got me there... but you see, you have to go back to your room and rest, or else you will not be able to see ever again.” he said. She just nodded her head. “It's OK. I'm used to being blind. I went to the music room because I'm starting to miss my friend again... so I went inside and played his favorite song.” she said.
Danson smiled sadly at her. “I miss my friend as well, so I want to escape here...” he said sadly. “What do you mean?” she asked. Danson shook his head. “Nothing...” he answered. “If you miss your friend, you can call him, or her, and ask them to see you here... If you get out of the hospital without the doctor's permission, you'll only make your condition worse. So go back to your room, and rest, OK?” she said. Danson nodded her head. “I will...” She smiled happily at him. “I'll go back first. When the doctors take these bandages out, I hope to see you in person...” she said. Then, the girl left him. As soon as she's gone, Danson noticed a white handkerchief lying on the floor. He picked it up, and saw a name embroidered on it. “Hannah...” he muttered. He looked at the girl's direction, and he was guessing that the handkerchief belongs to her. “I have a strong feeling we'll see each other again... I'll keep this for you till the day we meet again...”

Chapter 3 – Tears
He sat at the corner of his room. In his fingers, he hold a small ring. He stared at it for a long time, and then let his salty tears fall from his eyes. “Why?” he whispered. “Why did you have to leave me like this?” he asked again. He clutched the finger in his hand as he cried, and with all his might, he threw it as far as he could. He took the bottle of wine beside him, and finished it all up. Then, he slammed it on the floor, breaking it into several pieces. He pulled his legs up, and curled into his lonely corner. He cried his heart out, hoping that somehow, the pain he's feeling would subside. The more he closed his eyes, the more he could see her image, and the more it was breaking his heart.
He looked up, and saw the shards of glass lying around him. He took the biggest piece, and stared at it for a long time. “Maybe, if I die, I would not feel all this pain I'm feeling...” he thought. He placed the shard firmly on his wrist, that he could almost see the blood coming out of his vein. Then, he pulled it, slicing his delicate skin apart. He placed the shard on his wrist again and cut himself. He looked at his wrist as the silky red liquid flows out of his vein. It hurt, it really did, but the pain in his heart overpowers the pain he was feeling on his wrist. He watched as the blood flow out his vein endlessly. He leaned on the wall, and let another tear fall from his eyes. “Goodbye...” he thought. He closed his eyes, and left the darkness devour him. Slowly he's getting weaker and weaker. He laid his hand down, and took his last breath. Now, it's time to sleep...
--
They say that when you die, you will see your life flashing right before your eyes. And that happened to Danson. Right before his eyes, he watched as his life was being played back like a movie. All those happy moments, all of those sad moment in his life, he could clearly see it.
Let me tell you of his story that happened in his life when he was seven years old. Let's just say, Danson considered this the most important moment in his life. It was during this time that he met a wonderful girl. A girl he's destined to love for all his life. Her name is Sunnie Huang. She came from an affluent family. Her father and Danson's were the best of friends. He was seven years old when he first saw and met this girl, who later on became his best friend. His only girl best friend.
He first saw him at a party in their house. He sneaked out to play alone, and he came to the garden. From one corner, he saw a little girl crying. He immediately came up to her. “What's wrong?” he asked her. The little girl looked up at him, and wiped the tear in her face. “I... I lost my necklace...” she managed to say in between sobs. “Necklace?” he asked. The little girl nodded her head. “My... mommy gave it... to me... she... she told me... not to lose it... but... but I already did.” the girl said. Danson helped the little girl up. He took his hanky from his pocket and wiped the tear from her eyes. “Don't worry...” he said to her, smiling. “I'll help you find your necklace.” he said. With that, the girl turn into a smile. “Really?” she asked. Danson smiled, and nodded his head.
Danson searched high and low for the little girl's necklace, until he finally saw it, lyin on the flower bed. Danson immediately took it, and ran back to the girll. “I found it!” the boy said, showing up her necklace. The girl's face lightened up as soon as she saw her necklace. “My necklace!” she said, running up to him. Danson handed it to her, then looked at her and smiled. “Thanks...” the girl said. “I hope we can be friends. By the way, I'm Danson Tang. What's your name?' he asked. The girl simply smiled at him. “I'm Sunnie Huang....” she said. “And I want to be your friend.”
--
Let's fast forward to the time that is today. Danson and Sunnie grew up together, side by side. They have also learned that their parents have already fixed their marriage when they grow up, but that's OK with them. As they grew up, the two fell in love with each other and became a couple, much to the happiness of their parents. For Danson, Sunnie is his everything. She is his first love, and she will be his last. He have planned everything for the two of them. He have planned to study abroad, and take Sunnie with him. He have planned to settle down with her after college.
But somehow, his plans are not going to what he thought it should've been.
They were on their last year in high school, and at that time, Sunnie became one of the top ramp models of Taiwan. Danson have always been silently supporting her with all the things she does. It was one of their dates when Danson have finally told her about his plans for the two of them.
“Study abroad?” Sunnie asked him. Danson smiled and nodded his head. “Do you think it's a good opportunity for us, especially for you? You can still continue your career there while we're studying.” he said. Sunnie shook her head. “Dannie, you don't understand...” she said. Danson gave her a confused look. “What? It's a perfect plan for us, Sunnie. It's like getting married early at this age.” he said, smiling playfully at her. Sunnie looked up at him, and his smile irritated her more. She folded her arms, and turn his back on him. Then, she began to walk away from him. He, on the other hand, felt confused with her reaction. He began to follow her. “Sunnie?” he called. Sunnie stopped walking, and faced her. He could see the annoyance written all over her face. “Have you told my parents about this?” she asked. Danson nodded his head. Sunnie growled in anger. “What's wrong?” he asked in a confused tone. “What's wrong?! Why did you tell my parents about your plans! For sure they will go with it!” “What's wrong if your parents would go with my plan? It's a good idea...” “But it's not part of my plans!”
Danson fell silent at what she said. “Oh...” he said in a low voice. “I'm sorry... I thought... I thought you would approve of my plans for us...” Sunnie sighed, and shook her head. “Dan, I've got plans of my own, and going abroad with you is not part of it. I've got a great career here as a model. Do you know how much that means to me? I've worked hard to be where I am right now. I can't just throw it all away just because of -” “Just because of me?” Sunnie paused, and looked into Danson's eyes. She could clearly see the hurt in his eyes. “Danson, I'm really sorry...” she said. Danson smiled sadly and shook his head. “I understand, Sunnie. You don't have to explain. I forgot how important your career is for you. I'm sorry for being selfish...” he said in a low voice. Sunnie suddenly felt guilty at what she said to him. As he turned to leave her alone, she called him. “Danson...” she called. Danson paused, and looked at her. “Forget it, Sunnie. Just forget what I said. I'm sorry for being selfish...” he said.
--
“I don't understand...” Danson told his sister. He went to his sister's shop after he and Sunnie had that conversation about his plans. “Why wouldn't she want to go with me? She told me before she would do everything to be with me...” he continued. Dian sat beside him, and looked at her little brother. “Dan, I think I'll agree with Sunnie this time. Don't you think you're being selfish? You didn't consider her own feelings and her own plan when you told her parents about your plan to study abroad, and take her with you.” she said. Danson could only sigh as he leaned on the couch. He realized that his sister is right. “I know you love Sunnie a lot, Danson. You've been together since kids... don't you think it's about time that the two of you should give each other space?” Dian said. Danson could only look at his sister with disbelief. “What? I should break up with her?” he asked. His sister laughed at him. “Of course not, silly boy. You don't have to break up with her. If you really plan to study overseas, then take this as a time apart for the two of you. Danson, you can't always be with her. How can the two of you grow as a person if you will keep her by your side?” his sister said.
Danson didn't answer her. Instead, he looked away from her. “Aren't you a bit tired of always being with her?” she asked. Danson shook his head. “How can I get tired of her, I love her...” he said. “But did it ever occurred to you that maybe she needed space too? That maybe she wants to be her own for a short period of time?” she asked. Danson just gave her a confused look. “I don't think I understand...” he said. Dian smiled at him. “Of course, you still wouldn't understand. You're a teenage boy who's madly in love with another girl. You don't understand how being too in love would break your heart into pieces. That's why I'm telling you this...” she said. Then, she took his hand, and held it. “Dan, listen to me. You two are still young to be stuck with each other. Yes, the two of you are meant to be married in the future, but that doesn't mean that you have to devout all of your time for her. You're still young, and there are a lot of things that you can achieve on your own. You have to explore other things while you're still young, or you will regret it that you were not able to do the things that you want to do while you're young.” she said. “So, you're saying I should go and leave Sunnie for the mean time?” he asked. Dian nodded his head. “It's a challenge for the two of you. If you really love each other. No matter how far you are from each other, if she really loves you and you love her, the two of you will trust each other and remain faithful.” she said.
Danson looked away from her again. Somehow, his sister always says the right thing. “I guess you're right, jie...” he said. Then, he looked up at her. “I guess with me studying abroad, it will give the two of us more space. As they said, absence makes the heart go fonder, right?” he said. Dian smiled and nodded her head. “That's right. I believe it will make your relationship much stronger.” she said. Danson smiled at his sister, and nodded his head. “Thanks, jie. Thanks for enlightening me.” “Anything for you, little brother.” “Can I ask you a favor, jie?”
Dian nodded her head. “OK, but you owe me another one, all right?” she said. Danson nodded his head. “OK, speak up. What do you want me to do?” she asked. “Well, Valentine's day is coming up... and this will be last Valentine's day I'll be spending with Sunnie since next year I'll be in London to study, right? I want this Valentine's day to be special for the two of us. Can you help me with that?” he said. Dian smiled, and nodded her head again. “Like I don't always help you with Sunnie. Of course, I'll help you plan out a very memorable Valentine's day for the girl you love.” she said. Danson was so happy to hear her answer, that he hugged his sister tight. “Thanks jie! You're the best sister in the world!”
--
Danson and Dian passed by a jewelry store to buy his gift for Sunnie. From the display, he saw a gold ring with heart-shaped diamon on it. “Jie, that one's beautiful...” he told her. Dian looked at her brother and smiled. “I think Sunnie will love it. It would look pretty on her.” she said. Danson looked at his sister, and smiled. “Jie...” Dian let out a laugh. “I know, I know.” she said. She took some money from her bag, and gave it to her brother. “Why don't you go inside and buy it? I'll look around the shops while waiting for you, OK?” she said. Danson took the money, and nodded his head. “Thanks, jie. I owe you everything.” he said. Dian watched as her brother went inside the jewelry shop. “Aiyo, my little brother...” she said to herself as she shook her head. She know it's bad to spoil her brother a lot, but Danson is the closest sibling to her. She would do everything to make her brother happy.
She walked inside a gadget's store and browsed around the place. As she looked outside, she saw a car parking in front of the shop. She doesn't know why, but she kept on staring at that car. Then, a man came out of the car, and opened the door at the passenger side. She was surprised to see Sunnie coming out of the car. She made her move to greet her brother's girlfriend, but then she was surprised with the next scene she saw. She saw Sunnie smile at the guy, and then reached up to kiss him on the lips. She saw her being too sweet with the guy, flirting with him. At that moment, she doesn't know what to do. She doesn't know if she will walk up to Sunnie and confront her about what she saw, or if she will go back to the jewelry store and take her brother away from that place.
Just then, the man and Sunnie walked inside the store, and like her, Sunnie was as surprised as her when she saw her. “J-jie?” she stuttered. Dian folder her arms, and glared at her. Then, she looked at the man beside her. “Is he your other guy?” she asked. Sunnie lowered her head, not answering her question. For weeks now, Dian have been hearing rumors about Sunnie seeing another guy. She didn't believe it, because she know Sunnie have always been faithful to her brother. What she just saw only proved that she's wrong. “H-he's just a colleague, jie...” she said as an excuse. Dian let out a mocking laugh. “Colleague? Oh yeah, I forgot. In our industry, it's only natural to kiss a guy in front of a lot of people, especially in front of your boyfriend's sister.” she said sarcastically. Sunnie lowered her head, guilty with what Dian said. Dian glared at her even more as she walked towards her. “Look Sunnie, if you don't love my brother anymore, then you better tell him. No one can hurt my brother, not even you. Do you understand? Danson loves you too much... and what did you do? You're cheating on him!” she said to her. After saying that to Sunnie, Dian left her.
--
There was silence between Dian and Danson while they were driving back to Dian's shop, which made Danson confused. “Jie, are you OK?” he asked. She didn't bother to look at him, and just nodded her head. “I'm OK, Dannie...” she said monotonously. “It's so unlikely of you, jie. Why are you so quiet?” he asked. Dian let out a sigh, and continued driving. “I... I'm just tired, Danson. Sorry if I've been acting this way...” she said. Danson smiled, and nodded his head. As Danson stared outside the window, Dian looked at him sadly. She doesn't have the heart to tell Danson what she found out. She was scared to break her brother's heart. She felt sad for her brother, with Sunnie cheating on him. She knows Danson does not deserve this, he was a perfect boyfriend, and Sunnie chose to hurt him. “Danson... I wish I could tell you... I'm sorry for keeping this a secret...” she thought sadly.
--
At the Tang's mansion two days later.
Sunnie and her parent came over, and had dinner with Danson's family. All throughout the dinner, Dian was glaring at Sunnie, and Sunnie could not look at her way. It wasn't obvious to Danson with what's happening between his girlfriend and his sister. He thought that everything is OK between the two of them. Right after dinner, Dian went outside to the garden to smoke. Sunnie saw her, and approached her. “Jie...” she called. Dian paused, and then looked back at her. “What do you want?” she asked. “About what happened two days ago...” “You don't have to explain to me, Sunnie. You should tell my brother and explain everything to him!” “I can't...”
Sunnie lowered her head as she walked towards her. “I can't break his heart...” she said. Dian sighed, and put her hand on her waist. “Care to tell me who that guy is?” she asked. Sunnie looked up at her, and began to explain. “He's Oguri Shun. He's a photographer from Japan. I was able to work with him a few months ago for a photoshoot for a magazine in Japan...” she started. Dian tried to keep her cool as she listened to Sunnie. “I know he's way older than me, but I love him, jie. He gave me all the love I ever needed. He sees me as a woman, and not as a girl.” “But my brother loves you!” Dian said, trying her best not to shout at her. Sunnie lowered her head again. “I know...” she said in a low voice. “How can you fall in love with a man you just met? You've been with Danson longer than that man!” Dian questioned. “Because Shun loved me. And with him, I felt that I could love someone without anyone forcing me to love.” she said. Sunnie's answer only enraged Dian even more. “Are you telling me that you are forced to love my brother?!” she asked furiously. “Danson and I have been together since kids. We are arranged to be married, just because it's the most natural thing to do. Dian, all this time, I've been questioning myself if I really love Danson or not. When I met Shun, it answered all my question. Yes, Dian. I never loved your brother. Not in that way. It's only Shun that I want now...” Dian clenched her fist, then she walked towards her and slapped her. “How could you do this to him?! He loved you so much! He gave you his all, but you chose to break his heart! You don't deserve her.” she cried. Sunnie felt her tears falling from her eyes. “I'm sorry...” she said. “I'm sorry to hurt your brother...” Then, she looked up at Dian, and wiped the tears from her eyes. “That's why I decided... I decided to leave for Japan...” she said.
What they didn't know is that Danson came out, and heard the last thing Sunnie said. He was shocked to hear what his girlfriend said. “You're leaving?” he asked in a surprised tone. Sunnie was stunned when she heard his voice. She looked back, and saw Danson with a confused look in his face. “You're leaving for Japan, and you didn't even tell me?” he said. Sunnie lowered her head, avoiding Danson's accusing eyes. “I am... it's work related, Dan...” she said. Danson shook his head while he walked towards her. “Is that the reason why you don't want to come with me to London? Is this the plan, your own plan, that you're talking about?” he asked again. Sunnie looked at him, and nodded her head. “Yes, it's my plan...” she answered him. Dian could see how disappointed his brother is. She knew the two need to talk things through, and she need to give Sunnie the chance to tell him everything. She excused herself from the two, and left them alone in the garden.
“Why didn't you tell me about it?” Danson said. “It was sudden, Dan. They wanted me in Japan, and I know I could make it big there.” “Why are you choosing your career over me, Sunnie?” “I've worked hard for this, Danson. I want to take this chance, and become Asia's top model. Do you understand that?” Danson could only shake his head. Everything was too sudden for him, and he was getting even more confused. “Sunnie... you can't leave me just like this...” he said, pleading her. “Danson, listen to me. Right after graduation, you will leave me too, right? You'll go to London to study. I don't want to be left here in Taipei alone, waiting for you.” “That's why I want you to come with me!” “I can't always be with you forever, Danson...”
Danson paused, and looked at her. “But we...” he said, his voice cracking. “I can't be with you always, Danson. There would come a time that we would need the space between us, and I want that space now. We both need it.” she told him. Danson lowered his head, and shook it. “I... I don't know, Sunnie...” he said in a low voice. Then, he looked up at her, and stared into her face. “Somehow, I have this feeling that this relationship is gong somewhere that I don't expect. I feel like losing you... and I hate this feeling, do you know that? I loved you since we were young, and all I want is to be with you.” he said. Sunnie shook her head, and looked away from him. “I think... I think we should break up for a while, Danson...” she said. At what she said, he felt his world crashed down. He never expected Sunnie to break up with him.
“Why?” he asked her as he held her hand. “If you want space, I can give it to you. Just don't do this, Sunnie. I love you...” Sunnie looked away from him. She didn't said anything to him. She took her hand away from him, and walked away from Danson. Danson could only watch Sunnie as she walked away from him, his question still remained unanswered, and with confusion filling his heart.
--
The next day, Danson decided to go to Sunnie's pad. He have to get some answers from her, as to why she suddenly decided to break up with her. He wanted her back in his life, and he can't let her go just like that. Clutching the gift from his hand, he opened the door of her pad, only to find Sunnie in the arms of another man, kissing her.
He felt his heart shattering into a million pieces upon seeing that sight. Suddenly, his chest tightened that he couldn't breath. The gift on his hand fell on the floor, and the sound it made was loud enough to startle to two lovers. Sunnie looked by the door, and saw Danson standing with the shock on his face. “Dan...” she said. The shock on his face turned into anger. “How... how could you do this to me?” he asked in a low voice. Sunnie looked at the man behind her, and then she looked back at Danson. “I'm sorry, Danson... but...” “But what?!” “I don't love you. Not anymore.”
Danson felt all his energy was drained upon hearing that. He leaned on to the wall to support himself. “You... don't love me?” he asked weakly. “I tried to love you, I did. I tried to bring back all the love I had for you... but I just can't. All this time, I'm just forcing myself to love you, and it's breaking me apart...” Sunnie said. Danson shook his head, not wanting to hear what she said. He was in denial that this is happening to him. “No... you still love me, Sunnie...” he said. He was trying to fight the tears from his eyes. “It's the truth, Danson. I don't love you anymore. I love Shun. I can't be with you anymore.” she said. Danson shook his head. “No...” he said. Sunnie walked up to him to reach his hand, but before she could, Danson took it away from her. “I'm sorry...” she said, letting her tears fall from her eyes. “Sunnie, love me again. I promise to be a better boyfriend. If you need space, I'll give it to you. There's nothing in this world that I wouldn't do to have you back again...” he pleaded. Sunnie shook her head again. “I'm sorry, Danson. He gave me all the reason to stop loving you...” she said.
He couldn't bear the pain he's feeling anymore. His heart was badly broken, that he felt as if he was dying. His world revolved around Sunnie, but in the end, she chose to hurt him. He glared at the man behind Sunnie and at her, and then he ran out of her pad. “Danson!” he heard Sunnie call. He ran as fast as he could. He did not dare to look back, or stop. He knew Sunnie followed him, but he was too hurt to even face her again.
He now realized that everything's over between them.
--
It was two days before Valentine's day. He heard that Sunnie flew to Japan with Shun to start her career there. For two days, he kept himself in his room, drinking wine till he couldn't handle it anymore. He thought that by drowning himself in alcohol, he would be able to feel numb from the pain he is feeling. But he was wrong.
He sat at the corner of his room. In his fingers, he hold a small ring. He stared at it for a long time, and then let his salty tears fall from his eyes. “Why?” he whispered. “Why did you have to leave me like this? Isn't my love enough? Am I not enough for you?” he asked again. He clutched the finger in his hand as he cried, and with all his might, he threw it as far as he could. Then, Danson took the bottle of wine beside him, and finished it all up.
He was not thinking straight. All he that's inside his mind is the image of Sunnie and that man kissing. He looked beside him, and saw the the pieces of glasses lying beside him.
--
And as your past flashes back before your eyes like a movie, the future can be glimpsed as well. It's like a movie being put on fast forward mode. You can only take a glimpse at it, and not watch it. It's like a teaser, a spoiler of a good story. As just like how his past was, Danson was able to take a glimpse of the future. He saw a girl in pajamas, finding her way out of the hospital. He saw a girl, smiling happily at him. He saw a girl crying in his arms. He saw a guy a guy giving him piercing looks. He saw a girl splashing water on him. He saw a small toy piano. He saw a paper crane. He saw a girl in a long white dress. He saw a girl playing a lonely tune on the piano. He saw a girl lying lifeless on the ground He saw a man and a woman saying their vows before the altar. He saw a shot-haired girl, looking at him lovingly. Then, everything went black.
He drifted back into consciousness. He suddenly forgot his last visions. Everything he saw before he opened his eyes became unclear to him. As he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw is the white ceiling. “Am I in heaven?” he thought. Then, he felt his body began to ache. He groaned in pain. “Danson?” he heard a famliar voice said. He knew it was his sister. “Jie...” he called in a weak voice. “Finally, you're awake...” she said. He could hear her voice cracking, as if she's in the verge of crying. “Why didn't I die?” he asked. “Don't say that, Danson. We almost lost you. You lost a lot of blood... and we all thought you're going to die. Good thing the doctors were able to save you...”
Danson closed his eyes again, hoping that he will never wake up again. “Jie... leave me alone... I... I want to be alone...” he said weakly. “But Dannie...” “Please jie... I want to be alone. I want to die...” He heard his sister cry again. Why didn't he die? Why is God prolonging his agony? He couldn't bear the pain in his heart anymore. He couldn't accept the fact that Sunnie left her for another man, and for her career. Wasn't he good enough for her? He knew for himself that he gave everything to Sunnie, but she still chose to leave him.
As he closed his eyes, a tear fell on his cheek.
--
It was Valentine's day the next day.
He sat up from his bed, and looked outside the window. He couldn't help but think of Sunnie again. Up until now, he couldn't believe that she left. “I have to see her...” he thought. He looked at his arm, and then he pulled the tubes connected to his arm. With all his strength, he got up from his bed, and got out of his room, hoping to escape from the hospital.
“Danson?” he heard someone call him. He looked back, and saw his sister. “Jie?” he said. Dian folded her arms as she walked towards him. “Trying to escape?” she asked. Danson looked away from her, and shook his head. “Come on, let's go back to your room, OK?” she said. Danson looked at her, and nodded his hed. Dian held her arm, and led her back to his room. Then, he paused and looked back to the direction where the girl was heading. “Hannah...” he thought. Dian looked up at him, confused. “Is there anything wrong?” she asked. Danson looked at her, and shook his head. Then, he smiled. “Jie...” he said. “I promise after this, I will try to forget Sunnie.” he said. Dian smiled at her, and nodded her head.
--
A few months later.
Danson started college at St John's University. He ditched his plan to study abroad, and decided to continue his studies in Taiwan. It was the first day of school, and he was waiting for his first class to start. He was scribbling on his notes, when he felt someone approach him. “Hi, is this seat taken?” he heard a sweet voice say. He looked up, and he saw a boyish girl smiling at him. He doesn't know why, but at that instant, he was mesmerized by her. He smiled at her, and shook his head. “No... you can sit beside me.” he said. The girl smiled at him, and nodded his head. Then, he sat beside her. He looked at the girl, who was looking at outside th room. “Calvin! Here!” she shouted. A tall guy came inside the room, and took the seat beside the girl.
Then, the girl turned to him, and extended her hand to him. “By the way, I'm Kit. This is my best friend, Calvin.” she said, pointing at the guy beside her. Danson took her hand, and shook it. “I'm Danson. Nice to meet the two of you.” he said. “Same here. I hope you can be our friend. Anyways, it's kinda boring being stuck with my best friend here.” Calvin said. Danson laughed at him. He saw the girl nudge his chest, nagging the guy for saying those things about her. “No problem, I would love to be friends with the two of you.” he said.
Then, he looked outside the door, and a small figure caught his attention. She looked too familiar for him. The petite lady had this short hair, and was wearing glasses. He continued to watch her, until she was out of his sight. Then, he looked away from the door. Calvin noticed the change in his expression. “Dude, anything wrong?” he asked. Danson looked up at him, and smiled. “No, I thought I saw someone I knew...” he said.
--
“Ready to go? Calvin must be waiting for us.” Danson asked as soon as he saw Kit outside her History class. “Yeah, but do you mind if I tag a new friend along?” she asked. Danson smiled and nodded his head. Then, a petite girl came out of the door, and walked beside Kit. “Kit, are you sure it's OK if I tag along?” she asked. Kit looked at the girl, and smiled. “Of course! Danson and Calvin wouldn't mind. And besides, Calvin would love to meet you.” she said.
Danson gazed at the girl, and stared at her for a long time. He knew he have seen the girl before, and not just on the campus. He knew he have seen the girl before he started college. The girl looked up at him, and gave him a confused look. “Uhmm... why are you staring at me?” she asked. “Have... have we met before?” he asked. The girl nodded her head. “Yeah, I guess. You were with Kit when Calvin and I bumped into you guys after he hid at the music room...” she said. “Sorry, I forgot my manners. I forgot to introduce the two of you. This is Danson, my and Calvin's friend since freshmen. Danson, this is Hannah Tan, the musical prodigy.” Kit said. Then, Danson suddenly remembered the girl at the hospital two years ago, and the name that was embroidered on her handkerchief. “Could she be the same Hannah?” he thought. Hannah extended her hand to him, and smiled at him. “Nice meeting you, Danson.” she said. Danson smiled at her, and then took her hand and held it. “It's my pleasure to finally meet you...” he said. “Hannah...”

Chapter 4 – Love Letters
“I'm sorry, Joy... but I don't love you anymore. Let's break up.”
Joy lowered her head, trying her best not to cry in front of him. She heard his footsteps as he walked away from her. She looked up, and saw him put his arm around another girl. “He doesn't love me anymore...” she thought. She turned her back, and walked, her pace is slow. “Why can't anyone love me?” she thought. She paused, and then sat on the bench. She sighed as she lowered her head again. All she ever wanted is someone who could love her. Someone who could fill the emptiness she's feeling inside. Ever since she was young, she have always longed for that kind of love. Her parents have divorced since she was young, and both her mom and dad have their own families now and felt that none of them ever wanted her. Since then, she have always felt alone. She felt unwanted. She thought, when she started dating Ken, he would give him all the love she needed. She gave her all to him, but he only hurt her in the end. Ken is her first love, and she knew no one could ever replace him in her heart, and that fact hurts her even more.
“Great, it's Valentine's day and my boyfriend just broke up with me... what will I do now?” she thought. She sighed as he leaned her chin on her palm. Guess she will have to spend Valentine's day alone this year. All of her friends have dates, and she doesn't want to be the third wheel to them. After a while, she felt a strong breeze gusting over her. And as the breeze blew, a white envelope landed on her feet. Curious, she took it. “What's this?” she thought. She looked at it for a long time, and then she looked around the park. She found herself alone. “I guess it wouldn't hurt to read its contents, right?” she thought. She began to open the envelope, and took the letter inside it and began to read it.
--
My Dearest Tin,
How are you doing? I hope you're doing well. It's been a long time since I last saw you, and I'm starting to miss you. There are a lot of things I wanted to tell. I have a lot of stories to tell you, but I don't know where to start.
Tin, it's been two years since I came back here in Taiwan. There are a lot of places that I've gone through. There were a lot of pretty things I've seen back then. As I remember them all, all I can think of is you. There was this beautiful beach back in Singapore that I used to go through. The smell of the salty ocean feels so good. The wave crashing to the shore is life music to my ears. All those things, it brings back our memories when we were still young.
Jiro looked up the screen, and read what he have typed in. He looked at his desk, and saw the pink shell necklace lying on it. He took it, and stared at it for a long time. “Tin...” he thought. He closed his eyes, and reminisced those happy times that he had with Tin.
Remember the very first day we met? I could never forget that, Tin. If it wasn't for you, I know I would be gone by now. I was too excited to swim, that I drowned. You ran to me, and saved me. When I opened my eyes, you were the first person I saw. I thought I saw an angel that time, for you were shimmering and glowing in the sun. When you smiled at me, my young heart was beating so fast. You had the most beautiful smile I have seen in my entire life, and I've long to see that smile again. I could still remember how warm your small hand is. I could remember how sweet your laughter is. I could clearly remember everything about you, Tin...
Do you still remember me?
--
“Joy?” she heard someone call her. Joy looked outside the room, and saw her friend, Gelly, coming up to her. “Hey, what's up?” she asked. Gelly sat beside her, and saw the paper on her hand. “What's that?” she asked. Joy looked at the letter she was holding, and then she turned to her friend and smiled. “Oh, it's nothing. It's some love letter I found at the park on my way here...” she said. Gelly smiled and nodded her head.
“Eh, Joy... are you OK?” she asked. Joy looked up at her, confused at her question. “What do you mean?” she asked. “I heard that you and Ken broke up this morning?” Gelly said. Joy looked away from her, and sighed. “Yeah, I guess I'll be OK...” she said sadly. She heard friend sigh again. “Oh, Joy... I don't know what to say...” she said. Joy smiled sweetly this time. “Don't worry about me, Gelly. I've been planning to break up with him anyways. I'm getting tired of dating him... so it's OK.” she said. “Tell me, Joy. Is there someone new on your part? I thought that while Ken was dating you, he was seeing that Pace Wu from our rival school. So, is there a new guy?” Gelly asked again. Joy paused, and looked at the letter in her hand. “Yes,” she said. “I guess so...”
--
Do you still remember me?
Each day, I ask myself that question. I wonder if you still remember how I look like. I know I looked kinda goofy back then, with my Son Gokou hairstyle. I can only laugh as I remember how I looked like back then. If you can see me now, you'll find out that I have changed a lot. Mom said I have grown to be a handsome young man. I guess all mom says that. Since I came back from Taiwan, I've had a lot of girl admirers here. I'm too proud, am I? Still even if I had a lot of admirers, I couldn't give my attention to them... and it's all because of you. I've been searching for you all this time, but I couldn't. Guess it was wrong for me to leave without even asking for your number or even your address.
Jiro looked at the picture frame on his desk. It was a picture of him and Tin on their last day at the beach. He smiled to himself as he stared at Tin's smiling face.
I still have that picture of us together. It's on my desk right now. I can clearly see your happy smile on that picture, and somehow, I'm wondering if you have that same smile on your face. I bet you're prettier now more than ever, and a lot of guys are wooing you. Maybe if I can see you right now, I'd fall for you as well. I guess I'll fall in love with you again...
Jiro stopped writing, and then leaned on his chair. He continued to stare at their picture. “I miss you...” he whispered. Then, he stared into the paper on his desk, and began to write again.
--
Joy was reading the letter as she walked through the lobby. She found herself being too engrossed with the sender of this letter. Though his words were simple, she could feel the sincerity of this man. She could feel how much this guy misses this 'Tin'. She paused, and then went inside the classroom. She saw her friends inside, who was busy chatting. “Hey, Joy!” one of her friend, Michelle, called her. “Hey Mich!” she said. Michelle and their friends walked up to her. “Hey, it's Valentine's day today. Do you and Ken have plans tonight?” she asked. She smiled, and shook her head. She guessed Gelly have not told them about her breakup with Ken just this morning, so she decided to let her friends know about. “We broke up this morning.” she said proudly.
Her friends looked at each other, and as the turned to her, they were giving her this look of pity, much to her disgust. “Oh, Joy... I'm sorry to hear that...” her friend, Gui Gui said. “We didn't know... I thought you and Ken have plans tonight... we were supposed to ask you to meet us later.” Hebe, another friend of hers, said. Joy smiled, and shook her head again. “I'm OK. You don't have to worry about me. And besides, I was planning to break up with that jerk.” she said. All of them nodded in unison. “That jerk doesn't deserve you! You deserve someone better, Joy.” Michelle said. Joy smiled and nodded her head. “So, what's your plan tonight? Don't tell me you'll just stay at your pad and sulk?” Gui Gui asked. “Hey, why don't you just join us later?” Hebe suggested. All of them agreed, except for Joy, who was shaking her head. “Girl, I'm sorry. I don't want to be the third wheel in your dates. I guess I'll stay home and watch some movies. I need some time alone as a new single girl.” she said. The three looked worriedly at her, but they knew there's nothing they can do to make her change her mind. “Just always remember, if you need someone to talk about it, we're always here for you.” Michelle said. Joy smiled, and nodded her head. “I'll talk about it to you guys when I'm ready.” she assured then.
--
How are you going to celebrate your Valentine's day? I used to celebrate it with someone. Her name is Tin as well. When I met her, I thought she was you. She had the same sweet smile as you. She had the same gentle touch as you. I thought she was really you... but she's not. We've been dating for two years now, until I broke up with her recently. I love her, I really did. God knows I did my best to give her all my love, but I couldn't there is someone who have taken my heart away completely. Until now, that someone still have my heart... and you know who that is?
Jiro paused, and looked at his letter. “Should I tell her?” he thought. Then, he began to write again.
That girl is the girl I met when I was nine. She saved me from drowning. She was like an angel glimmering in the sun. She had the sweetest voice one could hear. And I call her Tin. Yes, it's you all along, Tin. Since then, I have loved you. I could not forget you... my heart only beats for you. Tin, I love you... but I know you don't feel the same for me. I know, until now, you're still mad at me. And I know... you have forgotten all about me...
Joy stared at the letter in her hand, and wondered why the writer said those things. “Why would this Tin be mad at this guy?” she thought. She shrugged her shoulder, and then took a sip from her juice. Then, she began to read it again.
--
“Jay, phone call!” Jiro heard her mom call. He stood up from his seat, and went down to take the call. “Jiro here...” he said. “Hey, Jiro...” he heard a familiar voie said. It was his ex-girlfriend, Celestine. Jiro's face fell upon hearing her voice. “Oh... it's you...” he said monotonously. “Why do I feel that you're not happy to hear from me?” “O-of course, I am happy to hear from you. What's up?” “Nothing, I just want to check on you. Why didn't you go to school today?” “I'm not feeling well...” “That's too bad... well, you missed an important lesson today. Do you want me to come there and lend you my notes?” “i don't think that would be a good idea, Cel. I think I'll ask Zax for his notes when I get back.” “But you know Zax's notes. It's not so organized.” “I know, but I already told him I'll be borrowing notes from him when I get back.”
There was silence on the other line. Jiro knew that he have disappointed Celestine. All he wanted is to stay away from her for it will only make him feel guilty breaking up with her. “You... you used to need me, Jay... why?” she said. He could clearly hear her voice cracking. He could sense that she was on the verge of crying. “Cel... we talked about this, right?” he said. “And you usually don't call me Cel. You call me Tin...” “Cel...” “Why, Jiro? Why can't you love me anymore?” “Cel... you know why I'm doing this, right? I can't hurt you anymore.” “I don't care, Jiro. I just want you back in my life...” “Cel... please don't do this to me...” “I could accept if you still love her. I could accept that, Jiro. Just don't leave me...”
Jiro sighed in disappointment. He have tried to explain to Celestine several times that he doesn't love her anymore, but she won't listen to him. “Celestine, we talked about this, right? I'm letting you go. It would be selfish of me if I continue having a relationship with you while I'm in love with another girl...” he said in a low voice. “But you will never be able to find her again, Jiro. While I'm here... loving you... Jiro, please...” she pleaded. “Cel, it's no use having this conversation with you. I... I have to go...” he said. He did not wait for her to say a word, and immediately ended the call. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. Again, he felt guilty for breaking Celestine's heart, but it's the right thing to do. He doesn't want to be selfish again, and he knows, one day, Celestine will find someone who will give her the love she deserves.
--
I started a relationship with her, hoping it would fill up the hole in my heart. I thought I can forget you, and that I would eventually learn to love Celestine with all my heart, but I was wrong. Each day, when I look into her eyes, I feel even more guilty because the fact remains still that I am in love with you. You can say that I'm a jerk, that I deserve to die... but that's how I really feel. I love you, and nothing could ever change that.
Is there a chance that maybe, you felt the same for me?
“Hey, Joy...”
Joy looked back, and saw Ken walking up to her. It was after school, and she was hanging out at her favorite cafe. She never thought that she would bump into her ex-boyfriend again today, but she was confused as he's alone. He was with a girl a while ago when he broke up with her, right? “What are you doing here?” she asked him. Ken stared at her, and he was giving her a sad look. “Can we talk?” “What is it that we have to talk about? We already broke up, remember?” “I know, and I regret breaking up with you...”
Joy looked away from him, and stared outside the window. “Look, it was a big mistake. I realized that I still love you...” Ken said. Joy turn to him and gave him a glare. “If you really love me, then you wouldn't cheat behind my back!” she told him. “I know that, but I'm a man. I am weak... and Pace was the only one who could give me the thing I need as a man?” Ken said. Joy sighed in frustration. “Wow, so just because that pregnant dog had sex with you, you chose her over me. Why don't you and that girl go to hell?” she told him. “Look Joy, I still love you. I realized I love you more than I love her. Whatever it is that I'm feeling for her, it's just lust.” “So? You broke up with me this morning and got together with that girl. What made you change your mind, that you wanted me back? Did that pregnant dog cheated on you right before your very eyes?”
Ken looked away from her, not answering her question. She smirked at him, knowing that she was right. “I knew it. That girl cheated on you on the very day that two of you got together. Well, that's what I call karma.” she said. Ken looked at her, and then held her hand. “Joy, it's not like that. I love you... please give me another chance...” he pleaded. Joy took her hand away from him, and then stood up from her seat. “I'm sorry, Ken. I gave you all my love. I blindly loved you, and this is what you did to me. You don't deserve any second chances, because you know what, I deserve something much better.” she said. Then, she started to walk away from him. “No one can love you like I do, Joy!” she heard Joy shouted at her. She paused, and felt Ken walking up to her. “No one can give you the love you need, Joy. And I know you could never love someone as much as you love me.” he said. She looked at the letter on her hand, and smiled to himself. She have prove him wrong. She turn to face him, and gave him a smirk. Then, she raised the letter high up for him to see. “You're wrong, Ken.” she said. “There is someone who can love me as much as I love him. And that someone deserves to be given a chance by me.” she said. Then, she turned and walked away from him.
--
I know what I did to you is unforgivable. I made you wait for so long. I made that promise, but wasn't able to keep that promise. If I had the will, I would've came back for you... maybe if I did, we would be happy together. Maybe you're with me right now.
I was suppose to come back to you the next summer at the beach resort. I was supposed to come for you, but on the day that I was supposed to go back to Taiwan, I met an accident. That accident almost caused my life. I became paralyzed down to my feet, and there's nothing I can do but to cry. Tin, I did everything I could to be well, to be able to walk again. I wanted to be that same guy you met that summer. I don't want you to see a helpless, weak and paralyzed guy like me. For years, I endured not seeing you, so that I could take the chance and stand up again. I had several surgeries just to be able to stand again. For years, I trained myself to walk again. Once I was able to walk again, the first thing I did was to come back for you.
But I guess I was too late...
You were never there at our spot. For several days, I waited for you. I patiently waited for you.... but it dawned upon me that maybe you got tired of waiting for me. I know I failed you. I know I made you cry... I'm sorry for everything, Tin. I'm sorry for everything...
Do you hate me now? I guess you do. If one day, our paths would cross again, would you give me another chance to be your friend again? I wanted so much to tell you everything that happened to me, to make you understand... but I guess I will never have that chance again. I guess it's because I know I will never be able to find you again...
Jiro leaned on his chair, and listened to the song on the radio. “And this one is dedicated to Katherine... from your prince charming. Hope you'll enjoy this song!” he heard the DJ said. Then, a familiar song played on the radio.
If I had to leave my life without you near me The days would all be empty The nights would seem so long With you I see forever oh so clearly I might have been in love before But it never felt this strong...
He closed his eyes, and thought of Tin again. He could remember the times they spent on the beach, making sand castles. He remembered the old man's story of the princess, her prince and the pink shell necklace. He could clearly remember how Tin's face light up as she listened to that old man's fairy tale. He could clearly remember Tin's smile when he found her bracelet, and when he gave her the blue shell. He could clearly remember when Tin put her necklace around his neck. He opened his eyes, and smiled to himself. He missed the girl so much. He badly wanted to see her again. At that moment, he decided to look for her again.
Nothing's gonna change my love for you You oughta know by now how much I love you One thing you can be sure of I'll never ask for more than your love Nothing's gonna change my love for you You oughta know by now how much I love The world may change my whole life throughout But nothing's gonna change my love for you...
--
Tin, I will love you till there are no more sands on the shore... I wish I could say those words to you. I will find you, Tin. I will find you no matter what. I won't stop searching for you. I still believe that I would be able to see you again, and I will patiently wait until that day comes. Tin, I hope you will also feel the same way for me. I know... I felt your heart the moment I saw you. I knew you loved me as well... I hope your feelings have not changed.
I love you, Tin... I'll always will
I will wait for you forever.
Jay
Joy's eyes were filled with tears after she read the letter. She's a crybaby, she knows that, but she was touched with the way this Jay have loved Tin even though there have been apart for years. “I will I could meet someone like this Jay...” she thought to herself. She looked at the letter, and read it all over again. She doesn't know why, but somehow, she was feeling something for this Jay. She was wishing deep in her heart that she was this Tin. If she were in Tin's shoe, she would easily forgive Jay, as there was a reason why he wasn't able to come back for her. And not only that, Jay have remained faithful to her all these years. “Jay, how I wish I'm your Tin. I think I loved him though I have never met him...” she thought.
Just then, she felt a strong wind blowing against her. The wind was too strong, that it took the letter from her hand. “Hey!” she shouted. She stood up from the bench, and ran after the letter. Meanwhile, Calvin was walking at the other side of the street, and was about to go back to school after having some snacks at a nearby cafe with his friends. He promised to wait for Kit until her club meeting is over. As he walked back, he saw a girl running across the street and chasing after a letter. He paused, and looked at her. He looked at the other side, and saw a car speeding her way. He panicked as he looked back at the girl. “Watch out!” he shouted at her. The car was about to get near the girl. He immediately ran after the girl, and pushed her to the safe side of the street. Calvin found himself hugging her, and staring into her eyes.
At that instant, he was mesmerized. He felt as if he was hypnotized as she looked into her eyes. He felt his heart began to beat fast as he held her close to him. Everything seems to be in slow motion as he looked at her lovely face. “Uhmmm... I'm OK now...” he heard the girl said. With that, Calvin seemed to wake up. He let go of the girl from his hug, and smiled at him shyly. “I'm sorry...” he said. Joy smiled sweetly at her, and nodded her head. “It's OK. Thank you for saving my life.” she said. Joy walked to the other side, and took her things, especially the letter. Calvin could only watch her as she gathered her things. He smiled to himself as he watched her. The moment she saw her about to leave, he panicked. He wanted to get to know this girl more. “Miss!” he called. Joy paused, and looked back him. “Yes”?” she asked. He smiled at her. “Be careful...” he said. It was the only thing he could say for his mind went blank when she looked his way again. Joy smiled at him, and nodded her head. “I will. Thanks again.” she said. Then, she went on her way, with Calvin just gazing at her.
He looked at Joy dreamily, and then he put his hand on his chest. “Man...” he said to himself. “I think I'm in love...”

Chapter 5 – Roses
“Cal!” he heard someone call him. He lookd up and saw Eric walking towards him. “I got what you asked me to bring...” he said. Eric reached for his bag. He was about to take it out, when Calvin stopped him. “Not here...” he said. He looked around the place, and then pulled Eric somewhere where they could be alone.
Calvin pulled Eric to the fire exit. “Here is it...” Eric said. He took his bag, and pulled out a bouquet of peach roses. He looked up at Calvin, and saw his face light up. “Wow! It's beautiful!” he said. He took the bouquet of roses from Eric. “Thanks, Eric. You're the best!” he said. Then, he gave him a hug. What they didn't know is that one of Kit's friends, Faye, passed by, and saw the two guys hugging. “Ewww... so gay!” she thought. She shook her head, and went on her way to find Kit. “Aiyo! Stop hugging me, will you!” Eric shouted at him. Calvin released him, and laughed at him. “Wei, what do you think? I'm gay? No way! I'm just happy that I got this roses. Now, I'll be able to give this to her.” he said. Eric sighed, and rolled his eyes at him. “I know, I know. You always give her these roses every Valentine's day. Sheesh! I don't even know she doesn't have a clue that it's you all this time.” Eric said. Calvin just smiled at him, and then looked at the bouquet of roses in his hand. He knew Kit would be very happy if she received this. He pulled his knapsack in front of him, and then put the roses inside. He have to find a way to leave the roses on her locker without being too obvious.
“Man, I think you should tell her already. About what you feel...” he heard Eric said. Calvin looked up at him, and his smile slowly faded. “What are you saying? What feelings? This is just a yearly prank I pull on her.” he lied. Eric gave him a smirk. “Oh really? Being his 'Knight in Shining Armor' is just a prank all this time? Is it a way to get back at her for giving those chocolates to Chun?” Eric asked. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. “And besides, she doesn't even care.” he said. Eric smirked at him, and shook his head. “Fine, whatever you say.” he said. Then the two went on their way.
--
“Kit, can I ask you a question?” Faye asked as she sat beside her. Kit put her book down, and gave her a confused look. “What is it?” she asked. “Kit, I will ask you something, but don't freak out, OK?” she said. Kit just nodded her head. “What is it?” she asked. Faye looked at her. She saw her friend sigh before she speak. “Is Calvin gay?” Faye asked. At that instant, Kit burst out laughing. Everyone inside the room paused and gave her a confused look. “Calvin? Gay? Of course not!” she said. Faye sighed again, and shook her head. “Are you sure? I mean, sometimes best friends do keep secrets from each other. Maybe he is, and he's just scared to tell you. Maybe it's the reason why none of his previous relationship works is because he's gay! And maybe that's why he keeps on stealing your chocolates is because he doesn't want to get obvious.” Faye said. Kit gave her friend a confused look. Surely, Faye made sense. None of his previous relationships ever succeeded and she was wondering about it. She knew it's because the girls he dated in the past either cheat on him or doesn't love him enough. Is there a problem with her best friend's gender?
“And look, his last girlfriend is Kelly Lin, right? And that was way back in first year high! Since then, he never dated anyone,... and don't tell me it's because he hasn't gotten over Kelly, because you know and I know that the two are OK now. I think your best friend is gay.” Faye said in a matter-of-fact tone. Kit shook her head in confusion. “I don't think he is. And even if he is, he would tell me...” she said. The two girls heard Calvin, calling Chun outside the room. They observed him carefully. They both saw Calvin as he put his arm around Chun as they went out of the room. “Look, there's even something in the way Calvin smiles at the love of your life. There's something in the way he looks at him. I think the reason why he can't tell you he is gay, is because he also have a crush on Chun!” Faye said. Kit looked at her, petrified at what she said. “Calvin likes Chun?” Kit asked. Faye nodded her head. “I'm sure about it. If it's not Chun, maybe he and Eric got this thing going on...” Faye said. “He and Eric?” Kit asked again in disbelief. Faye nodded her head. “On my way here...” Faye said. “I saw Eric gave Calvin a bouquet of roses. He was so happy to have them, that he hugged Eric!”
--
“Chun, thanks...” Calvin said as they walked outside the room. Chun looked at him, and gave him a smirk. “Man, I do this every year. Each time Valentin's day come you threaten me. At least this is the last year you will threaten me not to take Kit's chocolates.” he said. The two continued to walk silently until they reached the phone booth. “So, you got her chocolates?” Chun asked. Calvin paused, and shook his head. “Not yet, but I will. I swear.” he said. Chun put his hands on his pocket, and turned to face him. “You still won't tell her, won't you?” he asked. Calvin fell silent, and just lowered his head. “It's not that easy...” “It is easy if you only follow what your heart says. You love her, Calvin. Why waste the time loving her in silence when you know that the two of you can be together?” “It's complicated...” “All you have to do is take the risk, and be man enough to admit to her how you feel.”
Calvin looked up at Chun, and stared at him. “Chun, if only I had not made that stupid promise years ago, then it's much easier for me, believe me. It's just that, I'm scared to lose her...” he said. Chun sighed, and then he folded his arms as he looked at him disappointedly. “Let me guess, will she leave you if she found out that you fell in love with her?” he asked. Calvin nodded his head. “Everything you said yesterday, it's all true.” Calvin said. Chun could only sigh, and shake his head. “Wow, I can't believe this! You know very well that you might blow this chance, right? What if one day, Kit finds love from another? What if it's too late for you to tell her how you truly feel?” Chun asked. Calvin let out a faint smile. “Well, all I can do is watch the girl I love happy with the man she loves... though I know it's breaking my heart...” Calvin said. Chun put his hand on his waist, and shook his head. “Well, this is your last chance, Calvin Chen. I swear, if Kit still likes me the next Valentine's day, I'm going to take her chocolates and make her my girlfriend. Think about it.” Chun said. He looked away from Chun, and did not utter a word.
“So...” he heard Chun say. “I heard there's this promo on Kit's favorite radio station. They will instantly play any love song you dedicate for the person you love. Want to try it out?” Calvin just gave him an are-you-kidding-me look. “Wei, it's a way that you can tell your best friend how you feel without telling her directly.” Chun said. Chun took the hand piece of the phone, and dialed the number. Then, he handed the phone to Calvin. “Come on... do it just this once, will you?” he said to him. “What song will I ask the DJ to play?” he asked. Chun let out a smile at him. “A song that would tell how you really for her. It shouldn't be that hard.” Chun said. Calvin smiled, and then took the phone from his hand. “Hello... hi... I would like to request for a song... I want to dedicate it to Katherine... from her prince charming....”
--
If the road ahead is not so easy Our love will lead the way for us Just like a guiding star I'll be there for you if you should need me You don't have to change a thing I love you just the way you are So come with me and share the view I'll help you see forever throughout Hold me now, touch me now I don't want to live without you... Nothing's gonna change my love for you You oughta know by now how much I love you One thing you can be sure of I'll never ask for more than your love Nothing's gonna change my love for you You oughta know by now how much I love The world may change my whole life through But nothing's gonna change my love for you...
“Hey, Kit...” Calvin said as he sat beside her. Kit watched him as he put his bag down. She was somehow getting suspicious of her best friend, for it was unlikely of him to bring his bag with him always. “Calvin, why do you have to bring your bag with you. You can leave it here in the room you know!” she said. Calvin just gave him a playful smile. “And what, so that you can peek at my surprise for you? No way!” he thought. Kit looked at him, and saw him smiling to himself. “You're not hiding anything from me, aren't you?” she asked. “Why would I hide anything for you? You're my best friend.” he said. Kit just nodded her head. “I know...” she said. Kit looked away from him, and continued to scribble on her notebook.
“Hi, Calvin...” she heard someone call him. She looked up, and saw Claire, their classmate, walk up to him. “Oh, hi Claire.” Calvin said. “Cal, I'm wondering if you're free later? Can we go out on a date?” she asked. Kit glanced at her best friend, and saw him shake his head. “Sorry, Claire... but I have plans later.” he said. She saw Claire's face fell upon hearing Calvin's answer. “Oh...” she said. “Maybe next time. If I'm free.” Calvin said. Claire smiled at him, and nodded her head. Then, she went on her way. Kit turned her attention to her notebook. After a while, Eric came up to him. “Hey, Cal. Want to go with us later at the cafe, after school?” he asked. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. “Sure! No problem! I'll meet you there later.” Calvin said. “Cool! We'll see you there.” Eric said.
Kit looked up, and remembered what Faye told her a while ago. It was easy for Calvin to turn down Claire, but it was also easy for him to say yes to Eric. Could it be that Calvin is really gay, and he have a relationship with Eric? Is it possible that it's going to be their date at the cafe? “Oh my God... is my best friend gay?” she thought. She looked at Calvin, and stared at him for a long time. Calvin could feel that Kit was staring at him. He felt his heart beating fast with the way she looked at him, and he could also feel himself blushing. He looked at her, and smiled. “Wei, why are you staring at me. Don't tell me you've fallen in love with me...” he joked. Although he was wishing she would say yes. As expected, Kit shook her head. “No, I'm not... I'm just wondering...” she answering. Calvin gave her a confused look. “Wondering about what?” he asked. “Wondering if there's something that you're not telling me about. Are you hiding something from me?”
Calvin looked away from her. He was beginning to be scared, for Kit might have noticed his secret feelings for her. “Did... did she noticed that I love her?” he thought nervously. “You know, Calvin... we've been best friends for so long, and it's unlikely of you to keep something from me. You don't have to keep it a secret. You know that I would understand... don't you trust me?” Kit asked. Calvin looked at her again, and as he looked into her eyes, he felt as if he was hypnotized. Part of him was telling him to tell her how she really feels. The other part of him tells him not to tell her, for it would end their friendship. His feelings for her is so strong, that he couldn't hold it any longer. “T-there is... something...” he began. Kit just looked at him. “Oh my God... he'll admit to me that he is gay!” she thought nervously. “What is it? You're really hiding something from me?” she asked. “I... I didn't mean to keep it from you, Kit. It's just that I'm scared that if you found out... you'll end our friendship...” “What is it? You know that I would understand, Cal. I'm your best friend. I know you from head to toe, and you should trust me.” “It's just that I... I'm scared that if you found out about it, you'll stay away from me.”
Calvin turned to her, and held her hand. He looked into her eyes lovingly. “Kit, you are important to me more than anything else. If I lose you, it's like losing the other half of me... do you understand that?” he said. Kit nodded her head. “You won't lose me, Cal. I'll be here, supporting you.” she said. She gave him a warm smile. She knows she have to accept her best friend, no matter what. “If you like Eric, I will support you. If you need help to tell your parents that you're gay, I'll help you tell them. If in the future, you decided to get a sex transplant, I'll support you. I'll even help you thought up of a pretty girl's name for you. I promise you that.” Kit said. Calvin smiled at her. “Yes, Kit. I like -” Then, he paused, realizing what Kit just said. “Eric?!” he exclaimed. He gave her a confused look. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. “Gay? Sex transplant? Are you nuts!” Calvin shouted at her. This time, Kit got more confused. “Why? Isn't that what you're supposed to tell me? That you're gay? That you and Eric -” “Hell I'm not gay!”
Calvin shook his head angrily. He never thought that her best friend would think of him that way. “You're not gay?” Kit asked. “I am not gay, Katherine Jin!” he shouted angrily at her. “B-but I thought... you and Eric.. Faye saw him give you a bouquet of roses and you hugged him. And you turned down all the girls... so I thought...” “If you're my best friend, then you should realize that I always turn down those girls every Valentine's day! And if you're my best friend, then you wouldn't think that I am gay!” Calvin took his bag, and stood up from his seat. He was so angry at Kit, for suspecting him to be gay. He never thought she would think of him that way. “Cal...” Kit said as he walked away from her. He paused, not daring to look at her. “I'm sorry, Cal. It's just that... I thought... you know...” she said apologetically. “I am not gay, Kit. And those roses, I asked Eric to buy it for me. I was planning to give it to a very special girl.” With that, Calvin left her all alone.
--
Calvin stood before Kit's locker, and gazed at it for a long time. “Was I wrong? Should I really tell her how I feel? I know she didn't have any bad intention when she told me that she will support me, but she thought I'm gay... Is it right for me to tell her how I feel now, so that she won't think of me that way?” he thought. He sighed, and looked at the bag he was holding. “I've been loving Kit for so long. I knew I love her since the very first time I met her. I badly wanted to tell her how I feel, but we made a pact. I promised to her that I won't fall in love with me. Will she understand if she found out that I have fallen in love with her?” he thought. He knew from the start that it was wrong for him to fall in love with her. After all, Kit only sees him as her elder brother. But with each day he spends with her, he's loving her even more. She had everything that he's looking for in a girl. He was perfect for him, but the sad thing is, they can only be friends.
He opened his bag, and then took out the roses. Peach roses have always been Kit's favorites, and he knows that if she gets this, she would be very happy. He could already imagine the smile on her face when she sees this flower. He always wanted to see that smile in her face. He always wanted to be the one who makes her happy. Although they had a misunderstanding a while ago, he wanted to make it up to her, He find Kit cute when she's all confused, and when she thought that he was gay. “I guess I can only be gay if Kit turns out to be tomboy...” he thought to himself.
He love her despite everything.
He love her even though she doesn't even have the slightest clue about his feelings for her. She will always be the most special and the most important girl in his life. He reached for her locker, and opened it, and then, he placed the bouquet of roses inside. “I hope you'll be happy to see these roses...” he thought. Then, he closed her locker.
To Katherine,
You're as pretty as these roses. Always stay happy
Your knight in shining armor
--
Kit was sitting by the stair, trying her best not to cry. A while ago, she saw Chun accept the box of chocolates from Ella. Chun have also told her that he liked Ella. There was nothing for her to do but to accept it. After all, Chun and Ella makes a good pair.
“Kit?” she heard someone call her. She looked up, and saw Calvin walking towards him. She gave him a faint smile.
He began to munch down the chocolates, savoring its sweetness. Even though he knows these chocolates are not meant for it, he still love it when Kit gives it to him. Because it means that somehow, Kit cares for him, that he is still important to her even though he will remain to be the second best in her heart. Kit remained silent as she watched Calvin eat her chocolates. There was something in the way he ate those chocolates that made her feel better. Calvin have never accepted chocolates from other girls, except for her, and it have been a mystery for her. Now, she finally understood. Calvin loves her, maybe he's seeing her in a different light. And she realized, she love this guy whom she grew up with.
“Thank you for making me feel good.” she said. Calvin put his arm around her again, and embraced her. “Anything for you...” he said. “My princess...” he added silently. He pulled her closer to him, and they stayed in that position for a long time. Being this close to Kit have always been what he wanted, and he doesn't want to let go of her yet. As he looked at her face, he have this urge to kiss her on the lips, but he was trying his best to control himself. If he could have Kit like this, then everything is worth the risk.
At that moment, he finally decided to break his promise, and let Kit now what's truly inside his heart.
--
Kit walked towards her locker, and opened it. She was surprised to see a bouquet of peach roses inside it. “Who did these came from?' she thought. She looked around the lobby and found herself alone. She sighed, and then took the bouquet out of her locker. She saw a card on it. She took it, and read its content. From the penmanship on the card, it's no doubt that it came from Calvin. She knew it was always him that leaves those roses to her every Valentine's day. She always thinks that it's his way of cheering her up whenever she couldn't give her chocolates to Chun. Now, she felt it's his way of letting her know how he feels for her. “Why didn't I see before that he like me?” she thought. She felt like a giddy school girl. She looked at the roses on her hand, and buried her nose on it. “Would it be OK if I ask him about it? Would it be OK if I tell him that I like him too?” she thought.
At one corner, Calvin an Eric were hiding as they watched Kit open her locker. “You're so weird, Calvin...” Eric said. Calvin gave him a confused look. “Why do you always have to leave those roses at Kit's locker? Why can't you give it to her directly?” Eric asked. Calvin put his pointer finger on his lips, making a quiet sign to Eric. He eyed on Kit again, and saw her smile as she saw the roses on her locker. She closed her locker, and then walked away happily. “Have you seen that, Eric? She liked the roses I gave her!” he said happily. Eric looked at his friend and rolled his eyes at him. “Yes, I've seen it, Calvin. And you're being too obvious that you're crushing on your best friend.” he said. Calvin just ignored his remark, and just watched Kit. “If you want to stare at your best friend the whole afternoon, go ahead and do that. I'll catch up with the rest of the gang at the cafe.” Eric said. Calvin looked at him, and nodded his head. “OK. I'll follow you guys there. I just need to talk to Kit.” he said. Eric left him alone after that.
He took a deep breath as he walked towards Kit. “Hey, Kit!” he called. Kit looked at him, and smiled. “Cal!” she said. She immediately hid the roses at her back, and put it inside her bag. Calvin took a peek behind her, and smiled to himself. “Are you hiding something from me?” he asked. She smiled, and shook his head. “Of course not. Why would I hide anything from you?” she asked. Calvin just smiled at him. They walked through the lobby, and there was silence between them. Once in a while. Calvin glances at Kit, and Kit does the same thing. “Kit...” he called. Kit paused, and looked at him. “Can I hold your hand?” he asked. She smiled, and gave her hand for Calvin to hold. As they were walking hand in hand, Kit could sense his nervousness. “Hey, what's wrong? It's not the first time you held my hand...” she said. Calvin let out a nervous laugh, and then he paused and looked at her. “Kit, about what you told me a while ago... about my secret...” he began. Kit paused, and looked up at him, waiting for him to speak. “There is really something I want to tell you...” he said. She smiled to herself. “Is he going to tell me what he feels? Is he going to confess his love for me?” she wondered.
Calvin turn to face her, gazing into her eyes. “I have to tell her now...” he thought. “What is it, Cal?” she asked. “Kit... I hope whatever it is that I will tell you, you won't get mad at me, OK? I hope that you would understand me... that after you hear what I say, you will still be my best friend.” he said. Kit smiled, and nodded her head. “Of course, how can I get mad at you, Cal. You're my best friend.” she said. Calvin took a deep breath before speaking again. “Kit... I want you to know that I -”
“Kit! There you are! Mrs. Chou are looking for us. Emergency club meeting.” they heard their classmate say. Both of them let out a sigh of dismay. “Dang, just when I'm about to tell her...” he thought. He scratched his head, then looked at Kit and smiled. “I think this one could wait...” he said. “Are you sure?” she asked. He smiled, and nodded his head. “No rush, Kit. I'll meet you after your club meeting, and I'll tell you all about it.” he said. She smiled, and nodded his head. “I'll see you later after our meeting, Cal.” she said before leaving Cal behind.
--
Calvin was walking back to school to meet Kit. As he walked back, he saw a girl running across the street, chasing a piece of paper that is being blown away by the wind. He looked at the other side, and saw a speeding car coming to her way.
“I think I'm in love...” He watched her until she's no longer out of his sight. He knew at that moment, he have fallen in love with that girl, and that girl is everything that he have dreamed of. She was like an angel, a princess that stepped out of fairy tale books. “I thought I've met my dream girl not long ago... until I saw her today...” he said to himself dreamily.
--
Kit and Calvin were on their way home, and she noticed that Calvin have been smiling to himself the whole time that they're together. “Maybe he's happy that he's with me...” she thought. She paused, and then faced Calvin. “I got roses from someone today.” Kit said. “Oh...” Calvin said, smiling to himself. “It says it came from my secret admirer named Knight...” she continued. “So, you have a secret admirer now, huh?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Ever since middle school, I always get roses from him. I wonder who he is...” Kit said. She put her hand at her back, and walked. “It must be someone who knows how sad I am for not being able to give my chocolates to Chun...” she continued. Then, Kit paused and looked up at Calvin. “Thanks for you beautiful roses, Calvin. You really know that peach roses are my favorites.” Calvin smiled at her, and put his arm around her. “Anything for you, Kit, You're my best friend, remember?” he said.
Kit felt herself blush as Calvin touched her. “Calvin... can I ask you something?” she said. He nodded his head as she turn to face him. “Why do you always give me roses every Valentine's day? Is it to cheer me up, or is it because you...” she paused, and looked up at him. She could see the confusion written across his face. “Cal, do you like me? Do you see me as more than your best friend?” she asked. Calvin paused, and looked at her. He was trying to feel his heart this time. He know for himself that he have loved Kit for so long, but after meeting that girl, he felt he had a change of heart. At that moment, he changed back and see Kit as only his best friend. Then, he smiled. “Kit, you know that you will always be special to me...” he said. Kit felt herself blush at what he said. “But... you will always will be my best friend. That's all. I love you, but as my best friend. And besides, we made a promise before right, we're not supposed to fall in love with each other?” he said.
She felt her heart break with what he said. She got it all wrong. She thought that the reason why Calvin was acting that way to him is because he loves her as more than a friend, but she was wrong. “But... but... you said a while ago... you wanted to tell me something... you want me to understand you, whatever it is that you're going to say...” she said. Calvin paused, and looked away from her. He knew he was suppose to confess his love for her, but he couldn't anymore. More than anything else, he was scared that Kit would reject him, and that she would end their friendship. So at that instant, he chose their friendship over his love for her. “Yeah...” he said, facing her. Then, he smiled. “There's something that I want to tell you, Kit. And I hope you would understand what I'm going to say.” he said. He looked at her in her eyes, and held her hand. “Kit, I think I'm in love. I met this girl a while ago... and I don't know... it was like love at first sight.. She was pretty... like a princess. She was too mesmerizing...” he said dreamily. Kit looked away from him so that he won't see the loneliness in her eyes. “Oh...” she said. “I wish I could see her again. Do you think I'll be able to see her again?” he asked. Kit looked at him, and forced a smile. “O-of course. You would be able to see her again, don't worry.” she said. She couldn't bear looking into his eyes anymore. The more she looked at him, the more that she wanted to cry. She knew she have to get away from this.
“Uhmmm, Cal... I... I need to go somewhere. I... I forgot to buy something at the bookstore. I'll see you later.” she said. She did not wait for him to speak. She simply ran away from him, leaving him all confused. Calvin looked at Kit as she leaves him. He know what he did was cowardly of him, but he would rather keep their friendship that lose Kit in the end. “I'm sorry, Kit...” he thought. “This is for the best....”
Kit ran through the street, her eyes filled with tear. Her sight were already fogged, that she did not notice that she bumped into someone. “Sorry...” she said as she looked up at the guy. The guy looked at her, and smiled. “It's OK.” he said. He paused, and looked closely at the girl. He could clearly see the tear in her eyes. “Miss, are you OK?” he asked. Kit lowered her head, and nodded her head. “Are you sure?” the guy asked again. Kit nodded her head again. The guy smiled, and lifted up her chin to look at her face. “If you're happy, then you should smile.” he said. She doesn't know why, but there was something about the guy's voice that made her smile. “See, you're much prettier when you smile. Whoever it is that made you sad, he surely regrets it. And it's his loss, not being able to see a pretty girl like you smile...” he said. With what he said, Kit laughed. “Are you always like this with girls?” she asked him. The guy smiled, and shook his head. “Only with you... I don't know why...” he said.
Jiro looked at her, and felt something familiar. It felt like he have known this girl standing before him. “She felt like she's Tin...” he thought to himself. “I... I think I should make my move. I'm sorry again about a while ago...” Kit said. Jiro smiled, and nodded his head. “I hope to bump into you again in the future.” he said. Kit looked at her, and smiled. “I hope so.” she said. Jiro watched her as she walks away from him. He got this gut feel that he would see this girl again.

A few months later...
“Wow! Finally, we're college!” Kit said as they entered the university's gate. Calvin looked at his best friend, and laughed at her. “Wow, you're really that excited, huh?” he said. Kit looked at him, and rolled her eyes at him. “Why, aren't you excited? You can meet a lot of babes here!” she Calvin just laughed, and shook his head. As they walked through the lobby, they saw Chun coming their way. “Oh, your long time crush is here...” Calvin said. “Hey, Kit... hey Cal... looking, good, huh?” Chun said. The two just nodded their head. “Glad to see you here, Chun.” Calvin said. “Yeah, me too. Anyway, I'll see you guys later.” he said. The two said goodbye, and went on to find their class. Along their way, Calvin bumped into a girl, her things fell on the floor. Calvin knelt down, and helped gather her things. “Here you go...” Calvin said, giving the books to the girl.
Joy looked up at Calvin, and smiled at him. “Thanks...” she said, smiling sweetly at him. Calvin was stunned upon seeing her. “Y-you're... welcome...” he said. The girl stood up, and went on her way. Meanwhile, Calvin remained standing, watching the girl as she leaves. He could remember who that girl was. It was the girl that Calvin saved a few months back, the one who was chasing the letter and almost got hit by the car. She was the very same girl whom Calvin have fallen in love with at first sight. For the second time, the girl have captured his heart. He was instantly mesmerized by her again. Kit saw how Calvin looked at her, and felt her own heart breaking. She knew that Calvin have fallen in love with that girl, even though he haven't known the girl's name. “How could someone be as angelic as her?” he thought. They both watched as the girl leaves. “Wei, Calvin... it's not as if it's the first time you've seen a pretty girl.” she heard herself commented to him. Though Joy was gone, Calvin followed her with his eyes. “Wow...” he muttered. Then, he looked at Kit and smiled. “Kit... I think I'm in love...” he said. Kit looked away from him, hoping that he won't notice the change in her expression. “Kit, will you help me find who she is? Please?” Calvin asked. Kit looked at him, and forced a smile. Then, she nodded her head. “I will...” she said.

Meanwhile, Hannah paused upon hearing a familiar voice. She peeked inside the classroom, and saw a tall guy inside. Beside him was a girl, and a shorter guy. Her eyes turned its attention to the tall guy. She watched as he smiled at the girl beside him. Then, she saw his eyes. She remembered something in those eyes, and in those smile. “Arron?” she thought. Then she looked at the shorter guy. She saw him talking to a girl, and as he heard his voice, she paused. “He... seems too familiar...” she thought. The shorter guy looked at her, and before he could suspect a thing about her, she immediately made her move.

Joy took the paper from her friend to write down her name for the attention. She looked at the upper part of the paper, and saw a familiar penmanship. “Jiro Wang?” she thought. She looked up, and saw a guy in the front row, who was talking to one of their classmates. She looked at the paper again, and looked at his penmanship closely. It had the same penmanship as the writer of the letter she got on Valentine's day.
--
“Hey! Calvin! Wait up for me!”
Jiro looked back, and saw a familiar girl chasing after the taller guy. He looked at her as she smiled at him. “Her smile seems so familiar...” he thought. He looked away, trying to remember where she met that girl. Then, he remembered that Valentine's day, where he bumped into her. But that's just not it. She really seemed too familiar to him. It's like she was the girl whom he met when he was nine years old...
--
“Kit?” Calvin called as he saw her walking through the lobby. Kit stopped, and looked back at him, giving him that warm smile. He doesn't know why, but he felt his heart beating fast again, just like before. He paused, and smiled to her. It's like he was seeing Kit again in a different light. “What, Calvin? Do you think I'm pretty that you're falling for me?” she teased. Calvin laughed and shook his head. He knew he have to forget his feelings for his best friend, and it's the only right thing to do. “No way!” he said. Kit just laughed at him. Then, she walked up to Calvin, and held his hand, in the same way he held her hand that previous Valentine's day. “I know. We promised, right?” she said. He smiled, and nodded his head. “Yeah,” he said. “We promised...”
