Chapter 1: The Beginning and The Ending
“You promise me this,” he said as I nodded.
“You will let your heart be free,” he added, “Free to live, laugh and love.”
“I won’t be a burden, especially not when I’m gone!”
Tears started rolling down my face as I knew it was a possibility with his condition. I just wish I could do something more. I felt so lost when he left me. Like a new born bird left in the nest, I was hungry. Hungry for his comfort, for his care, for his love. I lost him and I lost everything.
“So tell me, can you blame me for not taking pictures of other people when all I see through this lens is the face of the one who left me. Maybe I’m selfish, selfish to the other people who love me, to myself and to him. But how do you move on? You tell me! You’ve never been in a relationship long enough to see the value of it.”
“I know! I’ve never been in a relationship long enough to experience pain because I’m a coward.” Jiro admitted. “I’m so d**n scared of getting hurt. Cause once is enough! But at least I don’t deny it, at least I try!”
He paused and deep breathed, “You! You pretend to be so strong but inside you’d wish they’d understood you. You wish there would be someone like him. Because all the people who love you, you try to pretend it’s him. So you just end up breaking their hearts. And most especially, yours!”
I slap him so hard. But I couldn’t let it be. I know my limitations. I was living my life just fine before he came. I was… I was happy before he came. But I am happier when he came...
... not too long ago.

Chapter 2: Meeting You
I remember that day like it was just yesterday.
I was in my print lab, that’s what I like to call it. I was finishing some photos when the door bell rang.
“Just a sec!” I shouted as I came out of the room. I partially opened my door but didn’t unlock it. I was about to ask who is it, when I saw his face.
“Good afternoon Ms. Chen! Miss Lai Chen?” he greeted. My goodness, his smile was amazing. Those bright eyes just sparkled. I was caught in a trance when he suddenly came closer and offered me a hand shake.
“Ugh? What?” I wasn’t able to hear what he just said. I was too distracted with those lips! “I said, good afternoon!” as he slowly spoke, ”My name is Jiro Wang, I’m from Today.” I heard it this time and I caught myself staring at him.
“Ah! Ok!” was all the came out of my mouth. He then did the cutest thing, he smiled and looked down. It freaked me out!! I was still in my robe and I left his hand hanging.
“I, I’m sorry” I said and opened the door. He came in and I pointed him to the sofa. As he sat there comfortable still smiling, I told him, “I’ll change first.”
So I went to my room to change and left him there with all his cuteness. What the heck? Am I attracted to him? No it can’t be. I was just being nice to him. I can’t help but feel at ease with him.
I stopped walking and looked up. I knew where my heart is...
...and it’s not with this guy

Chapter 3: Interview with a Zombie
“So what would you like to drink?” I asked as I caught him taking down notes.
He adjusted his square framed glasses and looked up at me. “Water will be fine.”
I turned around and felt my stomach lurch from excitement. I walked straight to the kitchen to fetch two glasses of ice cold water. I drunk the first one so fast I almost spill it on my shirt.
When I came to the living room, I found him recording something.
“Ehem, ehem!” I faked a cough and it worked as I want to catch his attention.
“So what made you come here?” I inquired as I place the glasses in the table in front of him.
“Well,” he seemed tense, “I would like to make a story about you.”
I knew it. This guy has some fishy agenda. “So you’re like the others.”
“Like the others? In what way?” he demanded with a smirk.
Now I’m seeing the real you I thought. “You all want the same, the tragic story of my life!”
“Woohoow!!” he exaggeratedly said, “So you admit your life is such a tragedy to be featured in ‘Today’?”
I was surprised by what he said but I was quick on my comeback. “Then why do you guys keep on bothering me with the same question every time one of you d**n reporters come by?”
“Maybe because we want to know the truth,” he quietly spoke. I felt guilty but I can’t turn back now. He’s just like those others.
“And why do you need to know the truth?” I blurted, “I don’t need others sympathy.” I felt pain in my heart as I saw him stood up. He looked so remorseful as he left and I felt bad even more. I didn’t want to hurt him. I hardly knew him but I don’t need anybody’s help...
...especially not with him

Chapter 4: Surprises
Ding dong! Ding dong!
Who could this be? Mom must have forgotten something. I stood hurriedly to open the door and to my surprise I saw the least person I expected.
“You?” I almost shouted.
He waved his hand and said in a small voice, “Yup! It’s me again.”
I didn’t know what to do. I was partially immobilized with his cute smile.
Suddenly I was back to reality. “I’m sorry about last time,” he apologized as he offered me box.
“What’s this?” was all that came out of my mouth. “No, I mean thanks!” as I reached for the box. He looked me in the eye and smiled even more.
I thought time stop as I looked in those gleaming dark brown eyes. I’ve never seen such sincerity except, except Calvin’s.
No! They’re not the same. Calvin is totally different from him. He was my every thing. But this guy. I hardly knew this guy. But how can I be so comfortable around him? I’m digging my own grave again. I’m expecting to see what isn’t there.
“Have sit,” I smiled a t him.
He seated across me. We smiled at each other and for a brief moment our eyes were lock. I thought I heard a voice. It was saying “love.”
I quickly looked away and opened the box he gave me. “Elf’s Cupcakes! Wow, how did you know?”
He laughed softly and replied, ”When I left your house last time I saw a box of it at the garbage can. I thought you might want some.”
I can’t help but smile. “Well actually, I’m not the only one who loves them.”
“What do you mean?” he asked cautiously.
I looked him in the eye and said, ”Maya loves them too.” And there I saw that cute befuddled face. “Who’s Maya? Sorry I don’t know,” was all he can say.
“Maya is my daughter,” I announced as I pointed a picture on the mantel on his left side.
“I didn’t know you had a daughter or a husband,” he quickly exclaimed, “She’s very lovely like her mother.”
I had to laugh at this one. “What a comment! You really know how to make me relax.” Opss!!! I spilled the beans but I didn’t think he notice. He just smiled at me that made my heart do a cartwheel.
Oh my! Here I go again. I better stop! Stop it Lai! Stop it! You know who you love. I was concentrating so hard that I didn’t notice he was staring at me.
“Are you OK?” he sounded genuinely concerned.
I wave my hand and sat up straight. “I’m fine! I was just thinking…” I wasn’t sure if I should say it. But I have come to a decision.
“Thinking of what?” as he continuously saw through me.
“I was thinking of giving you the story,” was all I uttered.
He looked me in the eyes as he slowly moved his head closer to mine. Then he said, “Thank you! But what about your husband?”
