Chapter 30 – Shell Necklace
Note: Now that we know who the paper crane girl is, it's now time to tell the story of Jay and Tin.
--
“Kit!” Little Kit paused, and turned around. She saw her best friend, Calvin running up to her. “Wei... what are you doing? I thought you'll be leaving today as well?” she asked. Calvin gave his best friend a toothy smile. “I want to give you this before I leave...” he said. Then, he held up a blue friendship bracelet. Kit's eyes widened as she saw that. “Wow! That's the friendship bracelet we made in our Home Economics class?” she asked. Calvin nodded his head. “You gave me yours, so I'm giving this to you. Sorry it took me so long to get this... I have to hide these from the other girls.” he explained. Kit laughed at him. At 9, Calvin sure is a heartthrob and a heart breaker in the making. A lot of girls have a crush on him at their school, and knowing that Kit is his best friend, they would always throw dirty looks at her. Calvin do his best to protect her from those girls who wants to bully her.
Kit extended her hand to him, and then Calvin put the friendship bracelet on her wrist. “Don't ever lose this OK? If you lose this, you have to find me a blue shell.” he said. “Of course I won't lose this!” Kit said. “I don't trust you. You tend to lose a lot of things. Remember the whistle I gave you during scouting days? You lost it.” he said. Kit put her hands on her waist and glared at him. “I did not!” she shouted at him. Calvin folded his arm and smirked at her. “Then, where is it?” he asked. Kit just stared at him, not answering his question. “It... It's somewhere... in my room.” she said. Calvin just laughed at his best friend. “OK... I believe you when you said it's in your room. Just promise me you won't lose this bracelet, OK?” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Will you promise to call me once you're already at the resort?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Promise me you'll call me once you're there at your grandma's, OK?” she said. Calvin nodded his head. He said his goodbye to his best friend and ran back inside their house. As he turned to leave, the smile on his face disappeared. This is supposed to be their summer together, but he won't be spending it with his best friend.
--
“Room for three, please.” Mr. Wang said to the receptionist as soon as they arrived. Little Jiro clung to his mother, as he waited for their father. “Mom, can I go and swim later?” he asked. Mrs. Wang looked at his son and smiled. “Sure, honey. As soon as we get settled, we'll go and swim, OK?” she said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. Then, his father turned to them. “Let's go to our room, OK?” he said to them. “OK, dad.” Jiro said. He followed his parents up to their room.
After a while, Kit' family have arrived at the resort. “Good morning, Mr. And Mrs. Jin.” the receptionist said. “Hi Alice. Is my sister around?” Mrs. Jin said. The receptionist smiled and nodded her head. “Mrs. Lin have been expecting you.” she said. Then, the receptionist turned to Kit and smiled at her. “Are my cousins here as well?” she asked. The receptionist nodded her head. “Ariel and Matthew are here as well.” she said. She turned to her mom and smiled. “Wow! Ariel and Matthew are here as well. Too bad, Calvin's not with us.” she said, giving a pout. Mrs. Jin stroked her head and smiled. “Calvin and his family needs to visit their grandma. She is sick...” she explained. Kit just nodded her head. “By the way, Mrs. Jin, your sister have reserved the usual cottage for you and your family.” Alice said. Mr. Jin nodded his head and smiled at Alice. “Well, I guess let's settle first in our cottage before we go and look for Lisa, OK?” he said as turned to his wife.
After they settled in their cottage, Kit and her parents went to the restaurant to meet her Aunt Lisa. As they entered the restaurant, they saw Lisa and her kids at one of the table. “Lisa!” her mom called. Her Aunt looked at them and smiled. “Joanne!” her aunt called. They walked towards them and greeted her aunt. “It's been a long time since I last saw you, Kit. You've grown taller. “ her aunt told her. “I'm as tall as Matthew now!” she said, giving her aunt a smile. They all had lunch together, and after a while, Kit and her cousins decided to have a stroll at the beach.
“So, what are we going to do? I'm so bored...” Matthew asked. “Want to build sand castles?” Kit asked. Ariel shook her. “It's boring.” she said. “Hey, how about if we play Frisbee instead?” Matthew asked. The two girls shook their head. Matthew frowned at his twin sister and cousin. “I wonder why you didn't bring Calvin, Kit. It's boring without him around, and I'll be stuck with you girls.” he said. Kit folded her arms, and glared at him. “So, you're saying me and Ariel are no fun?” she asked. Matthew nodded his head. “Of course! You're both girls. How can I have fun if my playmates are girls?” he said. “Then go and find a guy kid here. Kit and I doesn't want to play with you either!” Ariel shouted at his twin brother. “As if. I don't think there are kids around here. So, I'm still stuck with you guys.” Matthew said. “Its either we leave you alone here on your own, or you come with me and Ariel. Your choice.” Kit said to her cousin. Matthew sighed, and then lifted up his hands. He have no other choice but to stick with the two girls. “Fine. I'm coming with you...” he said. Ariel and Kit giggled as soon as he agreed to stick with them. “Hey, Kit... didn't Uncle Sam promised you a pink shell necklace this summer? He said he'll find the pink shells to make your necklace.” Ariel said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Yes, I remember that. Last year, he made you one and he promised to make me another one when I come back here.” she said. “Then I think we should go look for Uncle Sam. I'd rather hang around him than with you girls.” Matthew said. Ariel rolled his eyes at her brother, and Kit stuck out her tongue at him.
--
The three kids were walking towards the souvenir shop, when an old man came out of the shop. Ariel and Kit's face lightened up as they saw him. “Uncle Sam!” they all shouted. The old man looked at them and smiled. “Ariel! Kit! Matt!” he greeted. The two girls gave the old man a big hug. “We missed you, Uncle Sam...” Kit said. Uncle Sam let go of the girls and then smiled at them. “And of course, I missed you all as well...” he said. Then, he noticed that something is missing in the group. “Where's little Calvin?” he asked. “Calvin have to visit his sick grandma, that's why he wasn't able to come here this summer.” she explained. Uncle Sam just nodded his head. “Hao lah, hao lah... come inside the shop. I have made some toys for you.” he said. They nodded their head, and followed Uncle Sam inside the shop.
Inside the shop, Uncle Sam gave them the toys he made especially for them. He gave Matthew a toy airplane and a rag doll dressed in Hawaiian for Ariel. “Thank you, Uncle Sam!” the twins said. Uncle Sam smiled at the two and nodded his head. Then, he turned to Kit. “As for you, little Kit, I've made something special for you.” he said. He pulled the drawer of the counter, and then took at pink shell necklace. Kit's eyes widened in awe as Uncle Sam showed him the necklace. “Wow! Uncle Sam, it's pretty!” she said. “Of course. Only for a pretty little lady like you.” he said. Then, he helped put the necklace on Kit. “Uncle Sam, can you tell me again your story about the pink shell necklace?” Ariel asked. Matthew shook his head in dismay. “Oh, no... not that story again!” he exclaimed. Ariel put her hands on her waist and glared at her twin. “If you don't want to listen, then don't! Nobody's forcing you to listen to Uncle Sam's story.” she said. Uncle Sam just watched the twin as they argue again. “Hao le, hao le... I will tell the story if the majority wins.” he said. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. “I want to hear the story again, Uncle Sam.” she said. She looked at her cousins, and saw Ariel sticking out her tongue at her twin brother.
The three kids and Uncle Sam sat on the floor, and he began to tell the tale of the shell necklace.
“Once upon a time, there was a princess who lived in a castle near a beach. Everyday, she would go to the beach and collect sea shells. One morning, while she was walking along the shore, she noticed a man lying unconsciously on the sand. She immediately ran towards her, and woke him up. The man finally woke up, and when she saw the princess, he instantly fell in love with her. She later found out that this man is a prince from a far kingdom, and that his ship was wrecked the night before because of a storm. The princess's father let the prince stay in their kingdom until he gets well, and during that time, the two have fallen in love with each other and became a couple.
One day, the prince's father came to take his son. The prince have no choice but to go with his father an obey him. Before that day when the prince will leave, the princess patiently gathered all the pink shells she saw by the shore and made it into a necklace. On the day that of the prince's departure, the princess gave it to him, asking him not to forget about her and their love. The prince promised that, and even promised to the princess that he will come back one day for her. As a token of his love, he gave the princess a rare blue sea shell.”
Ariel and Kit listened carefully to Uncle's Sam story. “Did the prince finally came back to the princess?” Kit asked. Uncle Sam just gave her a warm smile. “That, my dear, is up to you to find out. If the prince came back for the princess, or if the princess only waited in vain for the prince.” he said. Kit frowned at him. “It would be sad if the prince didn't came back for the princess...” she said. “I think the prince did came back for the princess, Kit. Right, Uncle Sam?” Ariel said. “My dear, not all fairy tales have happy endings. Maybe the prince came back and fulfilled his promise, and maybe the prince have forgotten all about the princess once he's back at their kingdom.” Uncle Sam said. “The prince should fulfill his promise to the princess. After all, he love the princess, right?” Kit asked. Uncle Sam just nodded his head. “Yes, the prince have not forgotten all about the princess, but there are a lot of things that happened that's why he was not able to come back for her. In the end, the princess got tired of waiting for the prince, and decided to marry the one her father wanted for her. When the prince came back for her, he was too late...” he said. Then, he looked at the kids and smiled warmly. “So, always keep your promises no matter how impossible it is. Do you understand, kids?” he asked. Ariel, Kit and Matthew nodded their heads.
--
Ariel and Kit were strolling along the shore when a boy bumped into Kit, making her fall on the ground. “Ouch!” Kit said. The boy paused, and looked back at her. “Sorry!” he shouted, then he ran away from them. “What a rude kid!” Ariel said after she helped up her cousin. “At least he said sorry.” Kit said. “But he should've helped you up. He's not a nice boy.” Ariel said. Kit just smiled at Ariel, and then looked at the boy who bumped into her. She saw him already in the water, swimming all by himself. “He's just excited to swim, that's all...” she said. “Hah! As if the beach would leave that he have to be that excited!” Ariel snapped. Kit just laughed at her cousin, then they continued their walk.
After a while, they heard someone shouting for help. They looked at the water, and saw the boy, who bumped into Kit, drowning. “Help!” the boy shouted. “Oh my God! That boy is drowning!” Kit said in a panicked voice. She was about to ran towards him, but Ariel stopped her. “Wait, Kit! Don't go! You might drown as well if you try to help him.” Ariel said. Kit shook her head. “I'll be OK. I know how to swim, remember?” she said. Then, she broke free from Ariel and ran after the boy. She ran towards the water and swam towards the drowning boy. She took his hand, and then she swam back to the shore.
As soon as they reached the shore, the lifeguard on duty took the boy and laid him on the sand. He performed CPR on the boy until he spat out all the water he drank and became conscious. “Jay!” they heard someone call. The boy slowly opened his eyes, and the first person he saw was the girl who saved him. He saw her smiling at him, and he smiled back at her. “Thank you...” he said in a low voice. “Jay, dear!” he heard his mother said. Jiro sat up on the sand, and then hugged his mother. “You scared me there, Jiro. I told you not to swim alone...” she said. “I'm sorry mom, I won't do it again.” Jiro said. “Ma'am, good thing this little girl here was alert and was able to save your son from drowning. It would be much better if you take your son to the infirmary so that our doctors could check on him.” the lifeguard said. Mrs. Wang nodded her head, and then turned to the girl beside him. “Thank you, dear. Thank you for saving my son.” she said. Kit smiled at her and nodded her head. She watched as she took her son up and walked towards the infirmary. Along the way, the boy looked back at her and smiled at her.
--
Kit decided to follow the little boy at the infirmary. As soon as his mother and the doctor is gone, she decided to sneak inside the small room to take a look at the boy. She took a seat beside his bed, and watched him as he sleeps. After a while, the boy slowly opened his eyes. “It's you!” he said in a weak voice. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. Jiro sat up from his bed and smiled at her. “Thank you for saving him, and I'm sorry for bumping into you and not helping you up a while ago. I guess I'm a little excited to get into the water...” he said. “It's OK with me. Would it be OK with you if we become friends?” she asked. Jiro nodded his head. “By the way, I'm Jiro, but you can call me Jay.” he said as he extended his hand. Kit took his hand and shook it. “I'm Katherine, but you can call me Kit. That's what my best friend call me.” she said. Jiro gave her a confused look. “Kit? But that sounds like a boy's name.” he said. Kit shook her head. “I don't know. Calvin calls me Kit because he can't pronounce Kate when we first met. Since then, he's stuck with calling me Kit.” she said. Jiro looked at her as he scratched his chin. “Hmmm... would it be OK with you if I give you a new nickname?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “I know. From now on, I will call you Tin. That's more lady-like. Is it OK with you?” he asked. “I love that name. Of course, you can call me Tin.” she said.
Just then, Jiro's mother and the doctor came. “Oh, it's the little girl who saved my son.” Mrs. Wang as she smiled at Kit. “Mom, this is Tin, my new friend.” Jiro said to his mom. Mrs. Wang knelt down in front of Kit and smiled at her. “It's nice meeting you, Tin.” she said. Kit looked at her and smiled. “It's nice meeting you too, Auntie.” she said. “Mom, would it be OK if Tin and I go for a walk? I'm getting bored here in the infirmary...” Jiro asked. Mrs Wang nodded her head. “OK, but do not swim without any adults around, OK?” she said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. Jiro stood up from his bed, then he took Kit's hand and they got out of the infirmary.
--
“So, what do you want to do, Tin?” Jiro asked as they were walking down the shore. “I've been wanting to build sand castles, but my cousins doesn't want to do it with me....” Kit said to him. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. “I'll build sand castles with you...” he said. Kit's face lightened up at what he said. “Really?” she asked. Jiro nodded his head again. “Of course, I would. It's much safer that swimming alone...” he said. Both of them laughed at what he said.
They settled themselves at one side of the beach that doesn't have much people around. Jiro was in charge with getting the sand, while Kit was in charge with forming it into a castle. As they were playing around – throwing sands at each other, and splashing sea water at each other. They were too busy playing around, that they did not notice that the sand castle that they were building have been swept away by a big wave. “Our sand castle!” Kit exclaimed as she saw the big wave hit their castle. The smile on her face disappeared the sand castle turned back into a flat sand. “Hey, cheer up...” Jiro said. Kit looked at him, and she saw him smiling. “We can build another sand castle tomorrow. It will be much bigger than the one we made today.” Jiro said. Kit smiled at him. “Promise?” she asked. Jiro nodded his head. “Promise.” he said. “Let's meet tomorrow outside our cottage so that we could make the sand castle and play again, OK?” Kit asked. Jiro nodded his head again.
--
The next day, Kit and Jiro agreed to meet by the beach. As Kit got out of their cottage, she saw Jiro sitting by the shore. “Jay!” she called. Jiro looked back, and saw Kit running up to him. “Hi Tin! Ready to make the sand castles now?” he asked. Kit nodded her. “Before we do, I want you to go with me to meet a friend. Is that OK with you?” she asked. Jiro just nodded his head. “Can your friend be my friend as well?” he asked. “Of course! Uncle Sam would be happy to be your friend to. Who knows, he might also give you a toy if we go and see him today.” Kit said. Jiro's eyes widened with surprise at what Kit said. “Really? He's going to give me a toy?” he asked. Kit nodded her head. “See this?” she said, pointing at the pink shell necklace around “Uncle Sam made this for me. Last year, he gave my cousin Ariel one. Then, when we visited him yesterday, he gave my cousin Matthew a toy airplane. Not only is he generous, he is also a great story-teller.” she said. “Wow... I would like to meet your friend. He also tells stories?” Jiro asked. Kit nodded her head. “A lot of stories. So, we should go and meet him now so that he would have enough time to tell us stories.” she said. Jiro nodded his head. Kit held Jiro's hand, and then she led the way to Uncle Sam's small souvenir shop.
After a while, they found themselves in front of Uncle Sam's shop. The two opened the door and peeked inside the shop. They saw the old man busily cleaning the shelves. “Uncle Sam?” Kit called. Uncle Sam stopped what he was doing and looked at the door. He smiled as he saw Kit and her friend. “Oh, Kit. Come inside. I see that you brought your new friend with you...” he said. Kit and Jiro went inside the shop. “Uncle, this is Jay, one of the guests at the resort. Jay, this is Uncle Sam. The greatest uncle of all uncles!” Kit said. Uncle Sam just laughed at Kit's introduction of him. Then, he bent down in front of Jiro and extended his hand to him. “It's nice meeting you, Jay.” he said, smiling at him. Jiro smiled at him, and shook his hand. “It's nice meeting you too, Uncle Sam.” he said. Then, Uncle Sam went behind the counter and took a small toy guitar and gave it to Jiro. “Jay, accept this toy guitar as a token of our friendship.” he said to him. Jiro took it, his eyes filled with awe as he looked at it. “Wow, thank you, Uncle Sam....” he said. Then, Kit nudged him. “See, I told you. Uncle Sam is very generous. He's also a great story teller, right Uncle Sam?” Kit said. Uncle Sam laughed at Kit's compliment. Knowing her, he knows what she's going to ask for next. “I know where this is heading... OK, I'll tell you kids a story.” he said. Kit and Jiro jumped with joy as what he said. “Uncle, can you tell the story of the princess and the shell necklace again?” she asked. Uncle Sam wrinkled his forehead as he looked at Kit. “Don't you get tired of that story?” he asked. Kit smiled and shook her head. “Besides, I know Jiro here would like to hear your story.” Kit said. Jiro looked at Uncle Sam and nodded his head. “Yes, I would like to hear that story, Uncle Sam.” he said. Uncle Sam smiled warmly at the two kids. “OK... take your seats and I will tell you the story of the princess and the shell necklace.” he said.
He began to tell the story again, and as Uncle Sam speaks, he saw the awe in these children's eyes. They were all ears at him as he tell the story once more. “Did the prince came back for the princess?” Jiro asked as soon as the story is over. Uncle Sam just gave him a mysterious smile. “Maybe the prince did, maybe he did not...” he said. And just like Kit's reaction when she first heard the story, he frowned at him. “It would be sad if it's not a happy ending...” he said. “My son, in reality, not all stories have happy endings. There are times that it would have sad ending, but it would only end that way for a short time. If the prince and princess are meant to be, only fate could tell.” Uncle Sam said. Then, Jiro looked at Kit. “If I were the prince and you are the princess, I will surely come back for you...” he said. Kit smiled at him, her cheek turned into bright crimson. Uncle Sam looked at the two children, and he could see the love blooming between them at their young age. It's rare to see young people finding their first true love at a very young age, and maybe Kit and Jiro are one of those lucky people to find their love at this moment. “If you are the prince, Jay...” Uncle Sam said. “You have to keep your promise no matter what. Don't let our princess here wait for you for a long time, do you understand?” he said. Jiro looked at him and smiled as he nodded his head, keeping his promise to the elder man.
--
After they visited Uncle Sam, Kit and Jiro went to their spot on the beach where they built their sand castle the previous day. “Do you think we should find another place to build the sand castle?” Kit asked. Jiro just smiled at her. “Let's build the castle far from the shore so that the wave won't ruin it, OK?” he said. Kit smiled and nodded in agreement. Just like before, Jiro was in charge with getting the sand and water while Kit was tasked to form the sand castle. After getting enough sand and water, Jiro helped Kit to build the sand castle.
“You know what...” Jiro said as they formed the sand castle. “I'm happy to meet a friend like you. Too bad, we'll be going home tomorrow...” he said. Kit looked at him, and saw him frowning. “Aiyo... me and my family will be going home in a few days. I will miss you a lot...” Kit said. “Me too. I will surely miss you, Tin.” he said. Then, he sat on the ground and looked up at the sky. “I never had much friends back home because me and my family always travel. Whenever we settle down at one place, after a few months or year, my dad would be assigned to another place and then we'll have to go with him...” “Don't you and your friends write to each other?” “At first, we send each other letters but in the end, they would be too busy to write me letters. That's why I told myself I will never be friends with the other kids because it would only hurt more if I get too attached to them and then we leave that place again...” “If they are your real friends, no matter what happen, they will never forget you...”
Jiro looked at Kit again and smiled. “Will you always remember me?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “I will never forget you, Jay...” she said. “Me too. I will never forget you, Tin. You are the first girl I ever befriended and you will always be special to me because you saved my life.” he said. Then he lifted up his pinky finger. “Friends for life?” he asked. Kit nodded her head, and then she lifeted up her pinky finger and wrapped it around his. “Friends forever and ever!” she said.
After a while, they finished their sand castle. They decided to swim a little at the beach, and then play around. As they rested at the shore, Kit felt that something is missing from her. She felt her neck, and she could still feel the shell necklace around her. She looked at her wrist, and she was shocked to see that the friendship bracelet that Calvin gave her is missing. “Oh no!” she shouted. Jiro looked at him, and he saw that she was in the verge of crying. “What's wrong?” he asked. “My bracelet.... it's missing...” she said. Then, she began to cry. She promised Calvin that she will not lose that bracelet, but she already did. “Maybe you can get another bracelet, Tin... don't cry...” Jiro said, trying to calm her. “You don't understand...” she said in between sobs. “I promised my best friend that I wont lose it. I promised that I did, I have to find him a blue shell. It's impossible to find a blue shell here at the beach...” she said. Jiro held her hand and then gave her an assuring smile. “Don't worry, we'll find it.” he said.
The two began to search for her bracelet. They even ruined the sand castle they made, hoping to find it there, but to no avail. “Let's forget about it...” Kit said, losing all her hope in finding her bracelet. “Hey, if we can't find your bracelet, then we could find a blue shell for your friend.” Jiro said. Kit gave him a faint smile and continued with the search. It was already late in the afternoon, and they were still searching for her bracelet. “Let's stop this, Jay. I don't think we could ever find it...” Kit said to him. Jiro looked at her, and he could see how sad she is. “Hey, why don't we eat ice cream first? Then maybe we could find your bracelet or the blue shell.” he suggested. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Let's have some ice cream, but let's stop the search. Maybe the bracelet have been washed away when we were swimming a while ago. As for the blue shell, forget it. There's no such thing...” she said. Jiro walked up to her, and put his arm around her. “Aiyo, don't lose hope. We'll find it, don't worry. As for now, I'll treat you an ice cream, so cheer up, OK?” he said. Kit looked at him and smiled.
--
What Kit didn't know is that that night, Jiro sneaked out and went back to their spot to find her bracelet. He searched high and low for her bracelet, but he still could not find it. After a few hours or searching, he decided to give up. As he sat on the sandy shore, he felt something hard. He stood up again, and dug up the sand. To his surprise, he saw a blue shell. “Wow...” he thought as he pulled it. He know that Kit would be happy to see this shell. He put it inside his pocket, and as he looked at the hole that he dug up, he saw a blue bracelet lying on it. He took it, and carefully looked at it. “This must be the bracelet that Tin is looking for...” he thought. He smiled to himself, and then put the bracelet inside his pocket. He was happy that he was able to find the things that most precious to Kit, but he knows that his friend would be very happy if she finds out that he was able to find the bracelet and a blue shell.
--
The next day, Jiro's family were about to leave the resort. But before they did, Jiro asked Kit to meet her at their spot. “I'm glad you came...” Jiro said as he saw Kit walking up to him. Kit smiled at him. “I want to say goodbye to you before you go home...” she said. “Actually, I have a surprise to you...” Jiro said. Then, he took something from his pocket and held it up for her. Kit was surprised to see her bracelet in his hand. “You found it?” she asked. Jiro smiled and nodded her head. Then, he handed the bracelet to her. “Not only that. I found something interesting that I want to give it to you...” he said. Then, he took the blue shell from his pocket, and showed it to Kit. Kit was awe stricken when she saw the blue shell in his hand. She thought it was impossible to find a blue shell at the beach, but she was wrong for Jiro was able to find it. “A blue shell!” she exclaimed. Jiro took her hand, and placed the blue shell on her hand. “I will give this to you as a sign of our friendship. Promise me you'll keep this shell, OK?” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Will I ever see you again?” she asked. Jiro shrugged his shoulder. “Maybe... but we always come here for a vacation. Maybe next year we'll be here again.” he said. “Then let's meet here again next summer! Promise me you'll come here next summer...” Kit said. Jiro smiled at her as he nodded his head. “Promise.” he said.
Then, Kit took off the shell necklace from her neck, and put it around Jiro. “I'm giving this to you so that you won't forget me, and so that you'll always remember your promise. We'll meet here again next year, OK?” she said. Jiro nodded his head. He looked at the necklace and held it. “I promise. Like the prince in the story, I will come back for you, Princess Tin...”
--
10 years later...
Kit took her memory box, and opened it. She smiled as she looked inside it. There was Calvin's whistle, their friendship bracelet, his button from his uniform which she took by force on their high school graduation, their pictures, letters, notes. Then, at one corer, she saw the blue shell lying. She took it and stared at it for a long time. “Jay...” she thought. She still wondered what happened to her little friend. They promised to meet up at their favorite spot, but the next summer came and he didn't showed up. She waited for the next four summers, but no Jay came up. After waiting in vain, she decided to give up on his promise.
Maybe Uncle Sam is right. Like in his story, maybe the prince never really came back for the princess. Maybe the princess only waited in vain for the prince. Just like her and Jay. She was always hoping to see Jay again, but he just kept her waiting. She have always thought that she is in love with Jay, and that he felt the same way before, and that they were just kids before to admit it. But with what Jay did, making her wait for a long time, it just proves that she was wrong. Maybe if Jay is around, she could have someone whom she could divert all her attention and love to. “Instead of breaking my promise to Calvin, of not falling in love with him...” she added silently.
She took the blue shell back inside the box, and put the box aside. She have never forgotten about Jay, she have kept his promise to him. She still hoped she would see him one day...
--
Jiro took the shell necklace and stared at it. “I'm sorry Tin... I'm sorry I was not able to come back for you...” he thought. The next summer, he was so sure that his family would go back to the resort, but at the very last minute, his dad was given a promotion and was assigned to Singapore. They stayed there until he was in his second year in high school, and his dad was promoted again, prompting them to go back to Taiwan.
He badly wanted to see Tin again. If only he had his own will 10 years ago, he have came back for her. He will never break his promise to her. If only he could turn back time, he would have the courage back then to tell Tin that he loves her. He knew that he is in love with Tin the very first time he saw her, but being a kid back then, he never knew that what he felt for her is love. He tried to search for her in every girl that he dated, but he just ends up comparing those girls to Tin. In the end, what he wanted most is Tin herself. He gripped at the necklace, and buried his face on his closed fist. He had a lot of regrets in his life and his biggest regret is not seeing Tin again.
--
“Kit, Jiro's here!” she heard her mother said. Kit took her bag, and went out of her room. She saw Jiro and Chun waiting for her outside their house. She gave them a pout as she walked over them. “It's about time you guys came...” she said to them. “Aiyo! Don't blame me, blame this very vain man here!” Chun said, pointing at Jiro. Jiro smiled apologetically at Kit. “Actually, I woke up late... I'm so sorry, Kit...” he said. Kit just sighed at the two. “What can I do? I told Calvin I would be waiting for you so I let him, Danson and Joy go ahead at the amusement park.” she said. Chun smiled at Kit, and put his arm around her. “Kit, don't be mad now. See, I'm seeing wrinkles on your forehead...” Chun said. Even though she is mad at Chun and Jiro for being late, she couldn't help but laugh at Chun. “Fine, I forgive you guys. Let's go, the three might be waiting for us.” Ktit said.
Kit and Chun followed Jiro to his car. She sat at the back seat, while the two were in front. Once they were inside their car, she noticed a pink shell necklace hanging by his mirror. Before Jiro started the engine, he took that necklace and put it inside the dashboard. “Funny...” she thought as she watched Jiro took the necklace. “That necklace looks familiar...” Then, she shook her head, erasing the thought that it could be the shell necklace that Uncle Sam gave her before, after all, she and her cousin Ariel might not be the only ones who have that pink shell necklace.

Chapter 31 – Blind Dates
It was the last week of their winter break, and another semester is coming.
Kit and Calvin have just finished enrolling in their subjects. As they were walking thought the school hall to meet some of their friends, they saw Chun running to them excitedly. “Kit! Calvin!” he called. Behind him is another old friend of them, Eric Li, who happens to go another university. “Look who I found!” Chun said. Kit just laughed as she watched Chun skip as he walked towards them. “Eric Li...” Calvin said. Eric smiled at him, and then tapped his arm as soon as they were near them. “Long time, no see, Cal!” Eric said. “Same here, so how's Chi Nan College?” Calvin asked. “Still the same, as always. You know, if I wasn't going to take medicine, I'd go here in St. John's with you guys.” he said. Then, Eric looked at Kit. “So, this brat is still tagging along with you?” he asked. Kit put her hand on her waist and glared at Eric. “Wei! I'm not a brat!” she told him. Eric just laughed her off.
“So, seeing anyone in particular, lover boy?” Eric asked as he turned to Calvin. Calvin smiled and shook his head. “Wei... he just broke up with his recent girlfriend!” Chun said. The two guys turned to Chun, and saw him putting his arm around Kit. Calvin looked at Kit and saw her looking up at Chun and smiling at him. He suddenly felt jealous at that sight. “So... you and Kit are finally together, I see.” Eric said to Chun Calvin turned to him, a little annoyed with his hunch . “No!” Calvin exclaimed. Kit looked at Calvin, wondering why he suddenly got irritated at Eric's question. “I mean, no... they're not together...” Calvin said in a more calm tone. Chun gave out a vicious at them. “Well, actually Kit and I can be together anyway,” he said, turning to Kit. “Right, Kitty Cat?” he asked her. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Of course, Chunnie Bear.” she said. Eric smiled at them, amused at their sweetness. Back in high school, Kit hada a huge crush on Chun, but what he knows before is that Chun likes another girl. He's glad to see that Kit finally have a chance with Chun. He guessed that Chun liked Kit before, and only acted gay so that he could get closer to the two. “The two of you looked good together.” Eric commented. “Anyway, its about time that you get yourself a boyfriend, Kit... not just hang around with our lover boy here.” Eric said, pointing at Calvin.
Eric put his arm around Calvin and smiled at him. “And that's why I'm here. There are three girls I know that's dying to date you. They're from my school and they have a hug crush on you...” Eric said. Calvin gave him a curious look. “I've only been to your school once...” Calvin said. Eric nodded his head. “Yeah, remember Bernice, Han and Tiffany? The girls I introduced to you when you went there?” Eric asked. “Ah... yeah, I remember them! So you want me to date those girls?” Calvin asked. Eric nodded his head. “They've been badgering me since they saw you. They really want to date you.” Eric said. Then, Calvin turned to Kit, as if asking for her approval. “Do you think I should?” he asked her. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Its about time...” she said. She looked up at Chun, and he gave her an assuring smile. Chun pulled her closer to him. Calvin looked at them, being more jealous than ever. “I know I shouldn't feel like this towards them, and I could see Kit's happy with Chun... but... but why am I getting jealous?” he thought. His thoughts were interrupted when he looked up at Chun, and saw him trying to pinch Kit's nose. Kit tried to get back at him by tickling him at his sides. He doesn't know when the two have gotten closer, maybe it was during the time that they fought, but he really could tell that Kit is happy whenever she is with Chun. “Yeah... Kit's right...” Calvin said. “It's about time...” Eric smiled at him upon hearing that. “Great! Let me tell you about these girls...” Eric said as they walked away from the two.
As soon as Eric and Calvin were out of their sight, Chun looked at Kit and saw the smile on her face disappear. “You know, this would happen sooner than expected.” Chun said to her. Kit just nodded her head. “I know... and I also know that I have no right to stop him. I have no right to be jealous... after all, I'm just his best friend...” she said. “But you could stop this from happening if...” “If I tell him that I love him?” Chun nodded his head. Kit just gave him a faint smile. “You know, if everything could be don e as easily said, I could have told him long before. But... things are complicates, you see...” she said in a low voice. “Thing are complicated because you think it is. If you let him know then -” “Then I would ruin our friendship again...” she continued. “Chun... when I lost him because of Trixie, I became scared. I became scared because I never thought that we could be ruined just like that. Yes, I was planning to tell him what I feel... but if I break my promise, I will just chase him away again. I would rather keep my silence and be contented with being friends with him, than tell him how I feel and feel guilty about breaking my promise of not falling in love with him... and seeing him mad at me because of what I felt.” “It's not a sin to fall in love with your friend, Kit.” “I know...”
Kit looked away from Chun and stared at Calvin's back. “But I'm still keeping my promise... even though it's breaking my heart...”
--
That afternoon, Kit and Chun met up with Jiro and Joy at the cafe near the school. “Hey...” Chun said to the two as he took the seat in front of them. “You guys finished with the enrollment already?” Jiro asked. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. “Yeah... we just bumped into our high school friend that's why it took us a while to get here.” she explained. Then, Kit noticed that Danson is not with them. “Where's Danson?” she asked. “He stepped out for a while. He got a call from someone... geez, he's been on that phone for almost half an hour now...” Joy said. As Kit looked outside the window, she saw Danson about to get inside the cafe. “Weird though, he's always been like that.” Jiro added. Chun gave a wicked smile and scratched his chin. “Let me guess... since Hannah left for Vienna?” he asked. Jiro and Joy nodded their head.
“Oh, hey guys...” Danson said as he walked towards their table, and then sat beside Kit. “So, I heard you're on the phone with someone, huh...” Kit said, teasing him. Danson blushed at what she said. “Oh, it's nothing... it's just Hannah...” he said. Chun and Jiro looked at each other, and grinned. “Oooohhh... just Hannah huh?” they said in unison. Danson glared at the two, who is obviously teasing him. “Wei, it's nothing. She just called me because she can't sleep. And she's homesick...” he explained. The four looked at each other and grinned. “Oh, really?” Joy said. “Am I missing anything? Hannah knows our number as well, what made you so special that she have to call you when she can't sleep?” Kit added. “And why does she have to spend too much money talking to you on the phone?” Joy asked. “Wei... why do you have to bombard me with such questions? Hannah wants to talk to me. That's why she called!” Danson said in a defensive tone. “So, she doesn't want to talk to any of us except you?” Chun asked. “I mean, she wants to talk to me today, that's why she called.” Danson said. “Don't worry, she'll call you guys one of these days...” he said. “Fine... we'll wait for that day that she calls us... if and only if she doesn't call you, or you won't call her.” Jiro said. Danson just rolled his eyes at his friends.
Just then, Calvin entered the cafe. He spotted their friends at their favorite corner. “Hey, guy!” Calvin called as he walked towards them. Calvin took the seat besides Jiro. “Where's Eric?” Kit asked. “He had to go. He said he'll be calling Bernice for our date on Friday.” he said. Joy gave Calvin a confused look. “You have a date?” she asked. Calvin smiled at her and nodded his head. “Eric set me up for a blind date with one of his classmates. I think maybe it's about time that I go out on a date after all the things that happened, right?” he said. All of them nodded their heads. “So, if Calvin can go out on a date, then Kit can go on a date!” Joy said as she clapped her hands. “Kit! Remember the cute guy from the College of Medicine? I think George Hu's his name. Didn't he asked you out one time?” Joy asked. Kit gave Joy a confused look. “George Hu?” she asked. Joy nodded her head. “Yeah, he asked for your number but you didn't gave it. Good thing he gave his number to me. Wei, it's your chance. You can go out on a date with him!” Joy said. Calvin looked at Joy and glared at her. “No.” he said in a firm tone. This made everyone confused at his reaction. “Wei? Why aren't you allowing Kit to go out on a date?” Joy asked in a confused tone. “I don't know this George Hu. Besides, he might do something to Kit, just like what Mike He did to her before.” Calvin said. “Aiyo... this George Hu is a real gentleman, I assure you. I've heard a lot about him...” Chun said. “The answer is still no. Kit, you're not going out with that guy.” Calvin said as he turned to Kit. Kit glared at his bet friend. “Wei, why can't I go out on a date while you can? I can take care of myself!” she said. “I just don't want you to get in any more trouble. Don't make us all worried, right guys?” Calvin said as he turned to his friends. It seems that none of them agreed to him. “Well... I think Kit's a big girl now and she can take care of herself...” Jiro said. Danson nodded in agreement. “I mean, if Kit's would get in any trouble, she would know what to do, right Kit?” Danson said. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. “See, everyone agrees that I should go out on a date as well. If you can do it, then I should too.” she said. Calvin was left with no choice but to agree to Kit, since all their friends were ganging him up. “Fine...” he said as he leaned to his chair. “Go out on a date with this George Hu... but make sure that I meet this guy first, OK?” Calvin said. Kit and Joy gave each other high five as Calvin agreed. Chun just sighed at Calvin. “Aiyo, what are you, Kit's dad?” he said, shaking his head.
--
Jiro came home that afternoon with Joy, when he saw his mom talking to Celestine and Celestine's mom. “Oh, Jay's here...” he heard his mom said. Mrs. Wang stood from her seat and went to his son. She gave Jiro a kiss on the cheek, and kissed Joy as well. “What are they doing here?” Jiro asked his mom as he eyed on Celestine. “Celestine brought her mom here for a visit. We haven't seen each other for a while.” Mrs. Wang explained. Then, she looked at Joy and smiled warmly at her. “You don't mind Celestine being here, don't you, Joy?” she asked. Joy smiled and shook her head. “Of course, Aunt Jane. After all, her mom's a good friend of yours...” she said. Mrs. Wang nodded her head, and lead the two to the den.
“Jiro's here...” Mrs. Wang said to their guest. Mrs.. Xiu looked up at Jiro and smiled at him. “It's been a while since I last saw you, Jiro.” Mrs. Xiu said. Jiro smiled back at the old lady and nodded his head. “By the way, this is my girlfriend, Joy...” he said as he looked at Joy. Joy looked at Mrs. Xiu and smiled at her. “It's nice meeting you, Joy.” Mrs. Xiu said to her. Joy smiled at her and nodded her head. “Nice meeting you too, Mrs. Xiu...” she said shyly. “I assume that you already know my daughter here, Celestine? She used to be Jiro's girlfriend.” Mrs. Xiu said. Joy nodded her head again, then she looked at Celestine and smiled at her. “I'm glad to see you again.” she said. Celestine gave a sweet smile to Joy. “Same here...” Celestine said. At that moment, Jiro was able to sigh with relief. At first, he didn't know what to do, and was scared when he found out that Celestine and her mom paid them a visit. Looking at the two girls, it seems that they are OK, and there's nothing to worry about.
Meanwhile, as Celestine smiled at Joy, she was having a different thought at the back of her head. She is just starting with her plans of stealing Jiro away from Joy. She have to gain her trust first before she could proceed with her plans. She want to make her feel the same pain she felt when Jiro told her that Joy is his new girlfriend. “Dina, would you like to help me get our snacks at the kitchen? Let's leave the kids here to talk for a while.” Mrs. Wang said. Mrs. Xiu nodded her head, and then followed her to the kitchen, leaving the three behind. “Sorry if we went here without telling you. Mom insisted on visiting Aunt Jane...” Celestine said to Jiro as soon as they were alone. “It's OK, Celestine. Your mom and my mom are good friends too. No problem.” Jiro said. “Actually, I was a little hesitant with coming here with her. I know that you'll be with Joy, and I'm a little worried about her...” Celestine said as she eyed Joy. Joy smiled at her again and shook her head. “It's OK, really. I don't mind at all.” Joy said. Jiro looked at Joy, and smiled at her. He put his arms around her and pulled her to him, giving her a kiss on her cheek. “Thanks for understanding, hunny.” he said to her. Joy looked up at him and smiled. She knows that Jiro loves her, and there's nothing that she have to be worried about, even thought Celestine came back into his life. She trusts Jiro, and she trusts that he will never betray her.
At the sight of Jiro giving Joy a kiss on the cheek, the smile on Celestine's face disappeared. She couldn't help but be jealous of Joy, and at the same time, be mad at her. She should be the one in her place, she should be the one that Jiro loves, and not her. “I think I'll help Aunt Jane at the kitchen first, OK?” she heard Joy tell Jiro. Jiro nodded, and then watched Joy as she walked towards the kitchen. “You really love her, huh?” he heard Celestine said. Jiro looked at her and nodded his head. “She means a lot to me, Celestine...” he said. “Do you love her more than you love me?” Celestine asked bitterly. Jiro looked at her again, surprised at her question. “Celestine... we talked about this already...” he said. Celestine smiled and nodded her head. “I know. I just want to know your answer so that I could be at ease.” she said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. “I just don't want you to think that I didn't loved you before. There's a big difference back then between us... and now...” he said. Celestine nodded her head. “I know. Tin always gets between us before. I could not accept that you still love her despite the fact that you have not seen each other.” she said. Jiro sighed, and then he shook his head. He already know where their conversation would be leading to. “Look, I don't want to talk about it...” “But does she know? Does she know all about Tin?” “There's nothing I hid from Joy.” “Does she know exactly how you feel for Tin?” “I said I did not hide anything from Joy. I told her everything about Tin.” “Then, does she know that Tin was the reason why you broke up with me?”
Jiro paused, and the looked at Celestine. At that moment, he could not speak. Celestine's lips turn into a smirk. “I knew it. You never told her the real reason why you broke up with me...” she said. She folded her arms, and looked into Jiro's eyes. “You never told her that you broke up with me because you could never love me as much as you love Tin. And you know what, Jiro...” she said. “I'm guessing it will be the very same reason you'll give her when you break up with that girl.”
--
Friday night came.
Kit was getting ready with her date with George Hu that night. He would be picking her up at their house at around 7 PM, and they would have dinner at an Italian restaurant in town. Just then, the doorbell rang. She immediately rushed to the door, assuming that it's already George, but to her surprise, she saw Calvin standing by the door. “What are you doing here?” she asked him. Calvin just gave him a smirk. “I want to see your date.” he said. Kit rolled her eyes at him, and then folded her arms. “Aren't you running a little late for your own date, Calvin Chen?” she asked. Calvin shook his head. “I told her I would be running a little late. Besides, I want to see if your date would be harmless.” he said. Kit sighed at his best friend, getting frustrated at the way he's acting. “Cal, I thought we talked about this already? I've met George prior to this date, and he seems to be a very nice guy!” “Oh, but you said the same thing about Mike, and you know what happened.” “Why are you being overprotective? You're not even my brother, less, my own father!” “I just want to make sure you're safe. You can't blame me if I get worried about you most of the time.” “If you keep on being like this, then I won't have a chance to find a boyfriend and I'll die a spinster and a virgin. Will you back off once in a while? Just let me be.”
As Kit turned to another side, she saw George already standing beside Calvin. He was holding a bouquet of peach roses, and a box of chocolates. “Oh, sorry... I didn't notice that you're already here.” Kit said to him. George just smiled at Kit. “It's OK. It's fun seeing the two of you talk.” he said. Then, he handed her the flowers and the chocolates. “Oh, thank you, George. You shouldn't have...” she said, smiling at him. “I have to. I want to make a lasting impression on you.” he said. Then, George turned to Calvin, and smiled at him. He extended his hand to him. “George Hu. You must be Calvin, Kit's best friend?” he said. Calvin didn't smile at him, but he took his hand and shook it. “The one and only.” he said. “I know you're worried a lot about Kit going out with me... but I assure you that she'll be in safe hands. I'm harmless, really.” he said. Then, George took a card from the front pocket of his jacket and handed it to him. “Here's my number in case you got worried about Kit. You can always call me.” he said to him. “Fine...” Calvin said as he took the card from his hand. “Kit have a curfew. Make sure she's home before midnight.” he said. Kit turned to Calvin and glared at him. “Wei, I don't have a curfew!” she told him. George just laughed at the two as the began to fight again. “It's OK, Kit. Don't worry, I'll drive you home before midnight.” he said. Kit smiled at him and nodded her head. Then, she held his hand. “Shall we go?” she asked. George nodded. “Any time that you're ready.” he said. Before they left, Kit turned to Calvin and smiled. She could see the angry expression in his face. “Hey, cheer up, sunshine boy. You have a date too!” she said, smiling at him. Calvin watched as his best friend leave with his blind date. He could tell that they already hit it off, and then he became jealous once again. “OK, Calvin... why are you being like this? Scared that Kit would replace you again?” he asked himself. He shook his head, and then left. He also have a date that night, and he have to get ready, he just hope he would enjoy it as much as Kit enjoys her date with George.
--
“Thank you for a wonderful night.” Kit said to George as he walked her at her doorstep. That night, George took her out for dinner and movie. “I hope you had fun with me tonight.” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Of course, I did.” she said. George smiled at her. “I'm glad to hear that. I hope we could go out again.” he said. Kit nodded her head in agreement. She watched as George walked towards his car. Then, he paused and then walked towards her again. “By the way, Kit...” he said to her. “I don't know why you suddenly agreed to go out with me tonight, but I hope it's not because you want to make Calvin jealous...” he said. Kit gave him a confused look. “What do you mean?” she asked. “At first, I thought you and Calvin have this thing... and the reason why you turned me down before is because you two are already dating. But I was wrong. Judging with the way you looked a while ago, I don't know... you guys have this spark... something that could not be seen in any best friends.” he explained. “I... I don't think I quite understand what you mean...” “It's obvious that you love Calvin. I could tell, since you talk about him all though the night. I could tell he have some feelings towards you as well, since he's being overprotective of you, and seems jealous of me.”
Kit smiled and then shook her head. “We're just like that. We're like brothers and sisters you know...” she said nervously. George shook his head. “I told you I'm a Psych major, and I can easily read people. I could see the feelings between the two of you but something's holding you back. I wish one day you two could talk through it.” he said. Kit gave out a nervous laugh at George. “That's not true... I mean... we're best friends. Nothing more, nothing less.” she said. George just nodded his head. “Are you saying that to convince me, or to convince yourself?” he asked. Kit was taken aback by his question. Is she really that obvious when it comes to Calvin? “I'll talk to you soon, Kit. I hope to see you again.” she heard George said. Then, he turned his back and leave.
Kit was left stunned at what George said. He's right, he have always loved Calvin. But it would be impossible for her to tell him what she feels. The only thing she could do now is distract herself from this feeling, and go out on a date with other guys. Maybe if she hit it off with one of the guys she's going to date, she could eventually forget all about being in love with his best friend.
But what can she do, if she keeps on falling for Calvin each day?
--
“Please, Joy... set me up for another date...” Kit said to Joy when they met up the next day at the mall. Joy gave Kit a confused look. “Aiyo, why would you like to go out on a date all of a sudden? Is it because Calvin's dating again?” she asked. Kit shook her head. “How can I find myself a boyfriend if I don't go out with someone? I can't always hang out with Calvin!” Kit said. “There's Chun and Danson.” “And what would I do if they got themselves a girl?” “There's me.” “You have a boyfriend.” Joy paused, and looked at Kit, confused with the way she's acting. “Kit, what's wrong with you? Why do you want to have a boyfriend all of a sudden?” she asked. “So that I won't look like Calvin's foolish best friend when he finally got himself a new girlfriend.” she said. “So, you're scared that history would repeat itself?” she asked. Kit nodded her head. Joy gave her friend a smile, and then put her arms around her. “Aiyo, I don't think that would happen again, Kit. Besides, Calvin have his full trust on you now.” she said. Kit gave out a sigh as she looked at Joy. “But still...” she said in a low voice. Joy sighed as she looked at Kit's sad face. “Aiyo... OK... I'll set you up on another date, OK?” she said. Upon hearing that, Kit looked at Joy and smiled at her, then she hugged her tight. “Thanks, Joy! You're the best!”
--
He saw her sitting at one of their favorite corners at the cafe, and she is alone. The timing is perfect, he thought. A smiled formed at the corer of his lips as he walked towards her. “Joy?” he called. Joy looked back at him and smiled. “Chun.” she said. Chun took the seat in front of Joy. “So, I heard Kit was asking you to find her a date, right?” he asked. Joy smiled and nodded her head. “I don't know what's happening to her, but yes she wants me to find her a date.” she confirmed. “And you found her a date already?” Joy nodded her head. “Xiao Gui. I think they'll hit it off...” she said. She sighed, then she leaned to her chair. “I think her date with George is not that successful...” she added. Chun sighed and then leaned on his chair as well. “Joy, can you do me a favor as well?” he asked. She gave him a confused look. “Cancel her date with Xiao Gui...” he said. “I'm taking over.”
--
Calvin was in a fancy restaurant, waiting for his date. As he looked at the door, he saw a gorgeous lady entered. She walked towards him and smiled. Calvin smiled at her as she approached him. “Hey, Calvin...” she said. “You're Tiffany, right?” he asked. She smiled and nodded her head. Calvin stood up and helped her to her seat. “Thank you...” she said to him. “I'm glad that you agreed to go out on a date with me...” Tiffany said. Calvin just smiled and nodded his head. “I'm glad Eric told me about you...” he said. Tiffany smiled, and then leaned on the table. “You know, I've been wanting to get you more ever since Eric introduced us, but you never came back... so I'm really glad that you gave me this opportunity.” she said. “Actually, I think it's about time that I go out on a date, that's why...” “Why, you and your girlfriend broke up?” Calvin nodded his head. “We broke up a month ago...” he said. Tiffany was shocked to hear that. “I'm so sorry...” she said. Calvin smiled and shook her head. “No, no... actually, I think it's for the better. She and my best friend doesn't get a long, and she even tried to ruin our friendship. Not only that, she got Kit in danger, and you wouldn't know how worried I was at that time about Kit.” he said. Tiffany gave Calvin a confused look. “So, you chose your best friend over your girlfriend?” she asked. “Actually, it's not that... there are a lot of things that happened that caused us to break up. But maybe it's because the fact that she really doesn't like my bet friend, and that she lied to me. Thats all I can say for now.” he said. Tiffany smiled and nodded his head. All throughout the dinner, Calvin talked about him and Kit, and Tiffany just listened to him. She listened to all the stories that he have to tell about Kit, and she's starting to think, maybe for Calvin, Kit is not just a best friend.
--
Kit sat at one of the fancy restaurants as she waited for her date. She looked at her watch again and frowned. Obviously, her date is running late. She sighed as she leaned on her chair. She took the goblet of water in front if her and took a sip. She looked at her watch again, and as she looked up, she saw a tall guy standing in front if her, smiling. She could not believe that this guy is her date. “Chun?” she gasped. “The one and only.” he said as he took the seat in front of her. “You're my date?” she asked again. Chun smiled and nodded his head. “So, you have no choice but be stuck with the whole evening.” he said. “Let me guess, you asked Joy to be my date tonight?” she asked. Chun nodded his head again. “But... but why?” she asked. “Tell me why you desperately wanted to go out on a date and have a boyfriend. I'm going guess this is all about Calvin again.” Chun said. Kit let out a chuckle as she leaned on her chair again. “You know too well...” she said. “I know everything, Kit. And I know you're doing this because you want to divert your attention to something else except Calvin. Is that right?” Chun asked. Kit slowly nodded her head. “You know, Kit... you won't even be successful at this, you know why? Because it seems to me that you keep on comparing those guys to Calvin. You looked for Calvin in them, but they are not Calvin. You're only hurting yourself in the end...” Chun said. “So, you're saying I should stop what I'm doing now?” Kit asked. Chun smiled and nodded his head. “Stop hurting yourself. It's enough that you hurt yourself by secretly loving your best friend.” Kit sighed as she realized that Chun is right. There's nothing she could do now, especially that her feeling for Calvin just keeps on growing stronger.
“You're right...” she said to Chun. “This isn't going to work out, really...” Chun smiled and nodded his head. “But you see, I know someone who is exactly like Calvin. If you're still willing to give it another shot, maybe I can set you up with him.” he said. Kit gave him a confused look. “Oh, really?” she asked. Chun nodded his head. “OK, I'll go out with this guy. For one last time...” she said. Upon hearing that, Chun smiled at her.
--
Danson patiently waited at the park for the “date” that Chun set him up to. He sat on the bench as looked at his watch. He was a little early for the date. Then, he heard someone call him. “Danson?” He looked back and saw Kit walking towards him. “What are you doing here?” she asked. Danson stood up from his seat and faced her. “Chun set me up for a date, and he told me I'll be meeting her here at the park. Seriously, I don't know what's with this blind date thing...” he said. Kit chuckled as she watched the confusion at his face. “Funny... Chun told me the same thing. Sorry if you got involved with this whole blind date thing...” she said. Danson smiled as he looked at her. “So... you're my blind date?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “I guess so... I hope you don't mind hanging out with me for a while.” “Of course. I don't mind at all.”
Danson walked towards her and then held her hand. “Want to go to the arcade?” he asked. Kit nodded her head. “Finally, something to do rather than eat in a fancy restaurant and watch movie.” she said. Danson just laughed at her. “So, you mean George is a boring guy?” “Not really. Maybe I just don't feel like dining in a fancy restaurant or watch movies...” “And Chun?” “He's goofy, but not the type I would want to go out on a date with.” “And me?” Kit paused as she turned to smile. “We'll see...”
--
“So of all the three dates, you don't want to go out with anyone f them anymore?” Eric asked Calvin. Calvin nodded his head. “Sorry, man... guess they're not really my type.” he said. Eric sighed, and then nodded his head. “It's OK, I understand...” he said. “I don't think any of the girls would want to date you anyway...” he continued. Calvin looked at him, confused at what he said. “Come on, Cal... if you keep on telling girls about Kit and how great best friend she is, you would only make the girls intimidated and they would think that you are in love with your best friend. You seriously have to stop doing it, or better assess what really Kit is in your life...” Eric said. “She's just my best friend...” Calvin said as he turned his gaze away from him. Eric gave him a smirk. “Are you saying that to convince me, or to convince yourself?”

Chapter 32 – Troubled Hearts
“Can we talk?” Celestine said as she approached Joy and Kit that afternoon at the uni. The two paused as soon as they saw her walking towards them. “What is there to talk about?” Joy asked. Celestine took of the shades from her eyes, and looked Joy in the eye. “About Jiro...” she said. Suddenly, Joy felt her heart beating faster upon hearing Celestine utter his name. “W-what about him?” she asked nervously. Then, Celestine looked at Kit. “I want to speak to you in private if you please...” she said, smiling at Kit. Kit raised an eyebrow at Celestine, and folded her arms. “Whatever it is that you have to say to her, you have to tell me as well. After all, Joy and Jiro are my friends.” she snapped at her. Celestine smirked at Kit as she walked towards her. “It's none of your business, dearie. Trust me.” Celestine snapped back at Kit. Kit clenched her fist, stopping herself from hurting the girl in front of her. Joy looked at her, and she could see the anger in her eyes. “Kit... it's OK. I'll see you in a while.” she said to Kit. Kit looked at her worried, but Joy smiled at her. “I'm going to be OK, don't worry. Celestine and I are just going to talk.” she said. Kit nodded her head, and then she left Joy with Celestine. Before she could walk away, she threw a glare at Celestine.
“You have a hell of a pregnant dog for a friend, Joy...” Celestine said as soon as they were alone. “What is it that you want to talk about Jiro?” she asked. Celestine gave her a wicked smile as she circled around Joy. “I'll be straight with you, Joy. I know that you know why I came back here in Taipei.” she began She stopped and then leaned over her. “I want Jiro back, sweety...” she whispered Joy was surprised at what she said. She looked at Joy with her eyes widened. “You two broke up a long time ago!” she said to her. Celestine just smiled at her. “Exactly. Now that I'm back, I'm going to take what is rightfully mine, Joy.” she said sweetly. “I'm with Jiro now, and I'm the one he loves.” Joy said. She clenched her fist, trying her best not to burst out in front of her. “The one he loves, huh?” Celestine said. She let out another wicked smile at her. “I guess you stll have not heard about Tin...” “I know Tin.” “So you know the story?” “Tin is Jiro's first love.” “Tin is Jiro's first and only love, sweety.” “He said he have forgotten about what he feels for Tin because he's with now...” “And you fell for it?”
Joy paused, and turned her gaze away from Celestine. Celestine let out a smirk as she folded her arms. “Jiro told me the very same thing when we got together. I heard he told it to several other girls that he dated. In the end, his love for Tin always win, and he ends up breaking up with those girls, especially me.” she said. “Nothing you could say to change what I feel for him...” Joy said in a low voice. She was still avoiding Celestine's eyes. “Did you even bothered to ask him what he said to me when we broke up? Did he even told you the real reason why after two years of being together, he still chose to break my heart?” Celestine asked. Joy lowered her head, unable to answer her question. “He said that he realized the he could never love me as much as he loved Tin. That he felt guilty that while he's with me, he could not love me whole-heartedly because his heart still belongs to her.” Joy looked at Celestine again, trying her best to control her anger. “Whatever it is, I know it's all in the past. Jiro is with me now. He chose to love me, so better leave us alone.” she said. Celestine still did not give up. “If I wasn't able to have his heart, then you will never have his. After all, the two of us have been living in Tin's shadow. Jiro could only love her and only her. He could never love me, then he could never love you. I'll do everything to take him away from you. Everything, Joy. Everything.”
--
“Oh my God!” Kit exclaimed as he went down the stairs. From the den, she saw her cousin Ariel standing and smiling at her. “Katie!” Ariel said. “Ariel!” Kit shouted. Kit rushed down the stairs, and gave her a hug. “Oh my God... look at you! You're still as pretty as ever!” Kit said. Ariel just smiled at her. “So, are you back here in Taiwan for good?” she asked. Ariel shook her head. “I just came back for my grandma's wedding. Remember Grandma Esther from my dad's side? She's getting married again, and guess who...” Ariel said. Kit gave her cousin a confused look. “Who?” she asked. “Uncle Sam!” Ariel said. Kit was surprised at what she said. “You mean to say...” “Remember the fairy tale that Uncle Sam always tells us? It turns out that the princess he was talking about is my grandma. It was a real story after all.”
Kit could not believe what her cousin told her. “Really?” she asked. Ariel nodded her head. “You guys are invited, OK? Don't forget to bring Calvin. Uncle Sam wants to see him. You know how fond he is with that guy...” Ariel said. “Of course. Actually, you can tell him now.” Kit said as she pointed at Ariel's back. Calvin entered the den, and behind him, Danson and Chun followed him. “Ariel!” Calvin said as he gave her a big hug. Ariel smiled at him. “Long time no see, Calvin.” she said. “Finally you're back from Singapore?” he asked. Ariel shook her head. “Just came back for Grandma Esther's wedding two weeks from now.” she said. Then she looked over at the two guys behind him. “And they are...” she asked. Calvin turned to the two. “This is Danson...” he said pointing at him. Danson smiled at her and then shook her hand. Calvin looked at Chun and pointed at him. “And this is...” before Calvin could introduce him, Chun, who looked obviously smitten by Ariel, extended his hand to her. “Wu Ji Chun is my name, L-O-V-E is my game...” Chun said. Calvin, Kit and Danson tried their best not to laugh at Chun's corny lines, but Ariel doesn't seemed to be amused at her. “Ow-key...” she said as she took his hand.
Ariel turned to Kit and gave him a gave her a disgusted look. “Please don't tell me this is the Wu Chun that you had a crush on during high school.” she said. Kit laughed and nodded her head. “The one and only!” Chun said. Ariel rolled her eyes at him, totallt ignoring him as she turned to Kit again. “So, did you and Calvin already hooked up?” she asked. Kit and Calvin were surprised at her question. “No!” they both exclaimed in unison. “OK... OK... I get it. You both don't have to react violently, OK?” Ariel said. Meanwhile, Danson and Chun were laughing secretly at the BFF's reaction. “So, you mean to say, you don't have a boyfriend yet?” Ariel asked Kit. Then, she turned to Calvin. “And you didn't have a girlfriend yet?” she asked. Calvin smiled at her. “We just broke up.” he said. “Oh... I'm sorry to hear that...” “Don't worry, Ariel. I'm OK now. Thanks to Kit.” Then, he looked at Kit and smiled at her. Ariel glanced at Kit, and saw her cousin blushing. “Cuz, please don't tell me you're dating this dork over here.” she said, pointing at Chun. “Wei! I'm not a dork!” Chun said to her, but Ariel just ignored him. Kit smiled and shook her head. “Nah. Not seeing anyone at the moment.” she said. Ariel put her hand on her waist as she sighed. “Please don't tell me you're still waiting for that Jay, Cuz...” she said. Kit looked away from her, and then she glanced at Calvin. How can she explain to her cousin that she have fallen in love with her best friend, but she could not admit it to him because of a promise they made long ago. “Actually, I'm still waiting for the right guy...” she lied.
--
Joy walked absent-mindedly through the hall. Her conversation with Celestine two days ago is still on her mind. She was getting worried about what she would do to steal Jiro from her, as if it's not enough that she have to compete with Jiro's first love. She paused, and sighed. “What should I do now?” she thought. She doesn't want to lose Jiro. If she would lose him, she would rather see him with Tin rather than with Celestine, because she know Jiro would be more happy with Tin than be with her, but can she really bear to see the man she loves with another?
She shook her head, and began to walk again. She was too spaced out, that she bumped into someone. “Sorry...” she said. She looked up and saw Calvin smiling at her. “I'm OK... are you?” he asked. Joy forced a smile and nodded her head. Calvin scratched his chin as she looked at her closely. “You don't seem OK to me... you and Jiro had a fight?” he asked. Joy shook her head. “No... maybe I'm just thinking about the lesson today...” she said. Calvin did not believe her excuse. She can't be possibly be thinking about the lessons as it's only the first week of classes. “Come on, Joy... I know you're worrying about something, and I know it's not about any of your subjects. You can tell me... don't you trust me?” he asked. “It's not that, Calvin... I just don't want to talk about it. Maybe I'm just a little paranoid about things, and...” then, she looked up at him and gave him a faint smile. “I'll talk about it some other time, OK?” she said. Calvin nodded his head. “Just always remember, if you need someone to talk to, I'm just here.” he said. Joy smiled and nodded his head.
--
Jiro walked over the parking lot, when a silver car stopped in front of him. He stopped, and looked at it as the window rolled off. He saw Celestine at the passenger seat. “Hey, Jiro!” she said to him. Jiro smiled at her. “Hey, what are you doing here?” he asked. “I was hoping to catch you here. Are your classes over?” she asked. Jiro nodded his head. “I'm waiting for Joy. We're going out for dinner tonight...” he said. “What time does her classes end?” “In an hour.” “Great! Would you like to have coffee with me?
Jiro closed his eyes and sighed. He knows where this is heading to. He knows that Celestine is douing her best to win him back. “Celestine, I'm sorry. I promised Joy that I would wait for her...” he said. Celestine gave him a pout. “Come on, Jiro... for old times' sake? I'll be going back to Manila in three weeks' time, and I really want to spend some time with you...” she said. “Cel... you have to understand... I'm with Joy now. Things between us aren't what it used to be anymore...” he said. “Then, can't we be friends? You said when we broke up that we could still be friends...” she said. Jiro sighed again, and looked away from her. “Please, Jiro? Pretty please with sugar on top? We won't take long, I promise...” Celestine said in her sweetest tone. Jiro sighed and nodded his head. “Fine, I'll go with you...” he said. Then, he opened the door if the passenger seat of her car, and Celestine sped her car away.
--
At the Jin's residence that afternoon...
Kit smiled as Ariel handed her the pink shell necklace. “Thanks, Cuz!” she said as she took it. “Gee, I really wonder why you lost your necklace, and why you wanted mine?” Ariel said. Kit just shrugged her shoulder as she stared at the necklace. “I didn't lose it. I gave it to Jay.” she said. “Yeah, your prince charming. The guy who promised to meet you at the beach 10 years ago, but stood you up every summer...” she said, rolling her eyes at her cousin. “Cuz, get over it. It's so history!” “I can't, Ariel. You know that Jay will always be special to me...” “Even though he never came back?” “Even if he never came back.” Ariel sighed as she looked at her cousin. “What's with that Jay anyway? You know, I've always been thinking that you and Calvin would be a better pair rather than that monkey boy.” she said. Kit paused upon hearing Calvin's name. She badly wanted to tell Ariel about her secret feelings towards Calvin, but she knows that the more people knew about her secret, the more possibility that Calvin would find out about it. “I only see Calvin as a brother.” she lied. “Besides, if we got together, it's like engaging in incest, yuck. Imagine you and your twin kissing...” she said. Ariel made a face a what she said. “I'm so not having this conversation...” she said. Kit just laughed at her disgusted expression.
“But come to think of it... maybe Jay came back after all...” Ariel said. Kit paused, and looked at her cousin, wondering what she was talking about. “What do you mean?” she asked. “Well, Uncle Sam told me about this guy who comes to the beach once in a while. I think one time he heard him shout the name Tin... he gave you the name Tin, right?” Ariel asked. Kit slowly nodded her head. Kit was stunned at what Ariel said. Maybe Jay is looking for her all this time. After three summers of waiting for him, she decided to give up on him, and since then, she stopped going to the resort for a vacation. “Do you think it's Jay?” she asked. Ariel shrugged her shoulder. “We wouldn't know it's him if he have your necklace.” she said. “But how would that be possible? Somebody else might have the necklace that I have...” Kit said. Ariel smiled and shook her head. “Well, according to Uncle Sam...” she said. “There were only three pink shell necklaces like that. The first one was the one grandma gave him, the second is that necklace you are holding, and the third and last one was the necklace you gave Jay.”
--
Jiro looked at his watch, then he looked outside the window of the coffee shop. Joy's classes have end a few minutes, and he's still stuck here with his ex-girlfriend. She's probably waiting for him. Jiro turned to his side, and saw Celestine coming up to him. “Celestine, I really have to go. Joy would be waiting for me.” he said. Celestine sighed as he frowned at him. “Come on, just a few more minutes, please?” she asked. Jiro shook his head. “I'm really sorry, Celestine. I promised Joy we'll be going out tonight.” he said. “Can't you stay a little bit more? Hang out with me?” “I can't Celestine...” “I will only be here for a few more weeks. All I'm asking is for you to spend more time with me...”
Jiro closed his eyes as he sighed. It's difficult to deal with Celestine, he knows that. She won't stop until she gets what she wants. “Cel... you have to understand. Joy is my girlfriend now, and she will always be my priority.” he said. He stood up from his seat and turned around to leave. Celestine let out a smirk as she watched him. “Will she always be the one? What if Tin came back one day?” she asked. After hearing that question, Jiro paused. Celestine knows to well what would make Jiro pause for a while. “Will she still be your priority once you see Tin again? Or, will you dump Joy the way that you dumped me?” she asked. This time, Jiro turned around to face her. “I love Joy. You have to understand that, Celestine...” he said. Celestine turned to smile at him. “Oh, I understand perfectly.” she said. She leaned over the table as she looked at him. “And I understand what's inside your heart. It will always be Tin, I know... will Joy ever understand that?” she asked. Jiro shook his head in frustration. “What are you trying to do, Celestine? If you're doing this to win me back, I'm sorry. I can't go back to you. I have a girl who loves me as much as I love her, who understood me and accepted my past. She is willing to help me forget Tin, something that you were not able to do while we were together...” he said. He saw the smile on her face disappear as she stood up from her seat. “So this is what it's all about...” she said in a low voice. She took a step towards him. “You got together with her because she's much better than me. Or is it because you see Tin in her?” she said. Jiro turned his eyes away from him. “You know what you are, Jiro Wang? You are selfish. I pity Joy because he fell in love with a very selfish man. Most of all, I pity her, because she loved a man who could never move on...” she said. She threw one last glance at Jiro, and then she walked out of the restaurant.
Jiro watched as Celestine walked out on him. She is right, and he is wrong. He is a selfish man, and he could not move on. In the end, he only hurt Joy and Celestine because of it.
--
Calvin walked towards her car at the parking lot that late afternoon, and he saw Joy sitting at the waiting area. She was alone, and he assumed that he's waiting for Jiro. He decided to walk towards her to keep her company. “Waiting for your boyfriend?” he asked as he approached her. Joy looked up at him and smiled. She moved over to give Calvin a space at the bench. “Were supposed to go out on a date tonight... you know, pre-anniversary date...” she said, smiling at her. Then, Calvin saw the smile disappear from her face slowly. “Guess he forgot our date...” she said in a low voice. “Maybe he's caught up with something. You know your boyfriend's school activities... it's really quite a handful.” he said. Joy shook her head. “He's no where to be found in school. I tried calling him, but he's not answering my call...” she said. “Maybe he's preparing a surprise for you. I know your anniversary is coming up, and maybe he's preparing something special.” Calvin said. Joy smiled and nodded her head. “I really hope so...” she said in a low voice.
Joy turned her gaze away from Calvin. “You know, we girls have this sort of a radar... gut feel, you call it. We could sense if something is wrong... and most of the time, the gut feel is correct...” she said. Calvin gave her a confused look. “So, you're saying, you have this gut feel about Jiro? Cheating or something?” he asked. Joy looked at him and shrugged her shoulder. “I don't know... but what I know something is not right. Something is not going as it is. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid again...” she said. “You just have to trust Jiro. I don't think he would do something to break your heart.” “I trust him. I always trust him. I just don't trust the things that would happen in the future...” “Whatever it is that would happen in the future, maybe there's a reason for it. You just have to be brave to face them...” Joy shook her head. “I don't think I'll be brave if I lose Jiro. I don't want to lose him. I'm not yet ready... not now, not even tomorrow...” she said. Calvin put his arm around her as she looked at him. He felt envy at Jiro because he was loved by Joy. “You really him, huh?” he asked. Joy nodded her head. “Jiros a lucky guy to have you. I know a lot of guys who would love you to be their girlfriend.” he said to her. “Including me...” he added silently. At that moment with Joy in her arms, all of his feelings for her suddenly came back. He felt like he wanted to protect Joy from all the hurt, and kiss away all of her fears, but he knows that it's wrong, as she is already his friend's girl. “Well, I know a lot of girls who's willing to be your girlfriend...” Joy said. Calvin just smiled at what she said. “Too bad, the girl I like doesn't seem to like me...” he said. Joy looked up at him and smiled. “Everyone likes you, Calvin. Everyone does. It's not that hard to fall for someone like you, you don't need to try harder...” she said. Then, Calvin looked into her eyes. He smiled lovingly at her. “But I think I should try harder for this girl... hey want a ride? I can give you a lift home... you must be really tired.” he said. Joy smiled and nodded his head. They stood up and went up to his car. After a while, they were already leaving the school premises.
Just then, Jiro finally came. He looked around the parking lot, and found it empty. “I'm too late...” he thought. Joy have gone home already, and for the first time, he broke a promise to her.
-- That night, Kit could not sleep. She sat on her bed as she stared on the shell necklace her cousin gave her. She could still remember that day when she and Jay parted ways, and when she gave him her shell necklace. “I'm giving this to you so that you won't forget me, and so that you'll always remember your promise. We'll meet here again next year, OK?” she remembered the exact words she told Jay. She remembered his smile as he nodded his head.
“Why didn't you came back that summer, Jay? Why didn't you keep your promise?” she asked. She clutched the necklace on her hand as she laid down on her bed. “Now, you came back for me, and you are too late. My feelings are never the same for you. Did you know that I've fallen in love with my best friend? It could have been you whom I'm loving right now... if only you came back for me. Did you know that I'm suffering now because of that broken promise? Calvin has always been there for me all throughout the summers that I'm waiting for you. He consoled me whenever I lose hope in you. He made me smile when I'm about to cry after realizing that you're not coming back. I fell in love with my best friend, and I broke my promise to him...” she said silently. She doesn't want to blame Jay, after all he is still his first love. She knew at that instant that he smiled at her, that he have fallen in love with Jay, and she could feel that he feels the same way for her. But he never came back, and all the love she had for him were turned to Calvin.
--
That night, Jiro could not sleep as well. He sat up on his bed, and took the shell necklace from his side table. “Tin...” he thought as he stared at the necklace. “I know I am selfish, and I know I have made you wait for a long time. Will you ever forgive me?” he thought. Their situation is like the story that Uncle Sam told them years ago, about the princess and the prince and the pink shell necklace. He knew at that moment that he saw Tin that he have fallen in love with her, and he knows that Tin feels the same way towards him. He badly wanted to go to her the next summer, but a lot of things have happened that's why he never came back. On the day he was supposed to go back to the resort, he found himself on the plane going to Singapore. There were several summers that he planned to go back to Taiwan, but he couldn't. He have made Tin wait for a long time, and he could not blame her if he got tired of waiting.
He tried to let go of her thought several times, tried to move on, but he just couldn't. He knows that he need a closure with Tin so that he could finally move on. He looked at the shell necklace again as he laid down on his bed. “Tin... where are you? I have to find you...” he thought. He closed his eyes, and after a while, he drifted into a dream...
--
Jiro found himself walking towards the beach. At the far end, he saw a girl picking up sea shells on the shore. Jiro smiled as he looked at her, as he recognized who she is. “Tin?” he called. He saw the girl look up at him and smiled. He immediately rushed to her, but as soon as he got near, she disappeared. He looked around the beach to find her, but she was nowhere in sight. “Tin!” he called desperately. “Tin!” he called again. But there was no answer.
--
Kit found herself by the shore. At her foot, she saw a blue sea shell. She smiled as she picked it up. As she looked up, he saw a man rushing up to him. She recognized who he is, and she smiled as she saw her. “Jay?” he called. She waited for him to come near him, but before he could, he vanished. “Jay!” she called desperately. “Jay! Don't leave me again! I've waited a long time for you!” she said. Then, she looked back, and she saw a familiar figure walking towards him. She was surprised to see him, and he could tell that he is as surprised as she is. “Jiro?”
--
Jiro looked in front of him, as he heard someone call her. Again, he saw the girl. “Jay! Don't leave me again! I've waited a long time for you!” he heard her shout. He walked towards her, and reached for her. As he got near her, she looked back at him. He was just as surprised as she is when he found out who she is. “Kit?”
--
Kit slowly opened her eyes after waking up from her dream. She sat up on her bed, wondering why she had that dream. “Jiro is Jay?” she thought.
--
Jiro slowly opened his eyes after waking up from his dream. He could not believe what he dreamed of, if that is what is subconscious mind is telling him. “Kit is Tin?” he thought.

honestly, while writing Jiro's story, mejo may naalala lang ako sa past ko kasi medyo hawig kami ng story.... anyway, up now, chapter 33
Chapter 33 – Happy Anniversary
A girl, A boy, His first love, His past love, Her secret admirer, His would-be rival Her heartache And a love story that will come to an end...
--
The girl who loves him
--
Joy smiled as she crossed out the date on her pocket calendar. Just three more days, and it will be their anniversary. She knows Jiro have been preparing a surprise for her, and though she could not make him tell what he's planning for their anniversary, she knows he's going to make it a special and memorable night. She picked up the phone from her bag, and stared at it's wallpaper. It was their first picture, which they took exactly a month ago. When they got together, many have thought that they will not last, since during their first year in college, Jiro had this reputation of dating a lot of girls. But, they proved them all wrong. For the past one year, Jiro remained faithful to her. Since they got together, he never looked at any other girls. As for her side, a lot of guys were trying to break them apart simply because they were envy of Jiro, being able to capture the heart of one of the school's prettiest girls.
“Hey, Joy!” she heard someone call. She looked up, and saw Calvin walking up to her. “Hey, Calvin! Where's Kit?” she asked. “She had to be absent today. She have to go with her cousin at the resort to prepare a little for their grandma's wedding next Saturday...” Calvin explained. He took a seat beside her, and then, he noticed that he sighed. “I thought she'll be here... I was actually planning to ask her to go to the mall with me to buy a dress for this coming Saturday...” she said. “Oh, I totally forgot! The big day is on Saturday, right?” he asked. Joy smiled and nodded her head. “You must be really excited...” “Of course I am. I cant believe me and Jiro were together for a year now. I just hope our relationship will last...” “Of course you two will last. I could see that he loves you so much, and I know that you do too...”
Then, Joy looked away from Calvin, her smile slowly faded from her face. “I don't know, Cal... it's just that I'm starting to get scared. I... I don't feel secure now...” she said. Calvin looked at her, confused at what she is saying. “This has something to do with that gut feel of yours?” he asked. Joy nodded her head. “Partly, yes. I don't know... it's just that I'm too scared to lose Jiro. You know how much I love him...” she said. Calvin nodded his head, and he continued to listen to her. “Since we started going out, Jiro told me everything. He made sure I know everything about him, and his past. And part of his past is this girl... the girl he met 10 years ago. He's Jiro's first love...” she said. “So, you feel insecure with his first love?” he asked. Joy nodded her head again. “I know he never saw her again after their first meeting, as his family migrated to Singapore. But, he can't seem to forget about her. It's like her memory will always overshadow our relationship, and though I know Jiro is trying his best to forget him, I know he still couldn't. It's like I'm competing for his love with this ghost. I don't even know if that girl ever exists.” she continued. “That's a complicated one.” Calvin said as he let out a laugh. He looked at Joy, and saw her laughing as well. “I think, you should trust Jiro. You said he's trying his best to forget that girl, then maybe he really is. I could tell that Jiro loves you and would do everything to keep you by his side.” Calvin said. “I don't know... it's just that I'm scared. What if that girl suddenly comes back? What is Jiro choses her over me?” “I don't think Jiro would do that. And besides, you're way better than that girl, believe me.”
Joy simply smiled at Calvin. “Well, that takes care of my first fear. Second, Jiro's ex-girlfriend is back. I know Jiro's not happy to see her, but she keeps on trailing my boyfriend. It's kinda irritating.” she said. “So, you're annoyed at the ex-gf of your boyfriend?” Calvin asked. Joy nodded her head. “She's still not over him, I know. And I know she's mad at me because shortly after they broke up, we got together. She even threatened me that she'll everything to have Jiro back. I just don't know what she means by everything....” she continued. “And you said that Jiro's not that happy to see her?” he asked. Joy nodded her head again. “I don't know, maybe because he had enough of her. When we got together, she did everything she could to steal him from me, but she never won. Imagine how Trixie tried to catch you attention, she's exactly like her.” she explained. Calvin was surprised at what she said. “Really? I never thought there could be someone as desperate as Trixie.” he said. Joy laughed at him as she nodded her head. “More than desperate, I must say.” she said. Calvin just laughed at her. “Oh, well... I don't think Jiro would still want to get back with her, and after all, past is past. All I can say is, you're just being to paranoid.” Calvin said. Joy smiled and nodded her head. “I think you're right, Cal. I'm just being paranoid.” she said. “So, stop obsessing with those crazy thoughts. You have to prepare yourself for your anniversary date. Make Jiro fall in love with you just like the first time he did.” Calvin said. Then, he put his hand on her hand, and held it, and then stared into her eyes. “Just like the very first time I fell in love with you...” he thought. “You're right...” she said. “The problem is, my side-kick isn't around to help me shop for a new dress. You know, Kit could tell me which dress would look good on me.” Calvin turned into a smile. “What am I doing here? I can accompany you to the mall. And believe me, I have better taste than my best friend.” he said, winking at her. Joy could only laugh at him.

The guy who have always been in love with her

Calvin looked through the rack to find a pretty dress for Joy. Then, he saw a small, light blue haltered dress. He took it from the rack, and then glanced at Joy, who was busily looking around for a dress. “Joy...” he called. Joy looked at him, and she saw the dress he was holding. “That's pretty!” she said. She walked over him, and then took the dress from his hand. “I'll try this on, and then tell me if it looks good on me, OK?” she said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. He watched her as she walked towards the fitting room. As soon as she is inside, Calvin began to look for another dress for Joy.
After a while, Joy came out of the fitting room. She looked at Calvin and smiled as she watched him look for another dress for her. “Calvin?” she called. Calvin turned around and saw Joy standing outside the fitting room. At that moment, Calvin couldn't help but stare at her loveliness. He felt as if he have seen a beautiful princess. At her sight, he was stunned, speechless and unable to move. “What do you think?” Joy asked as she twirled around in the dress. “Pretty, very very pretty...” Calvin said. Joy blushed at what he said. “Thank you...” she said shyly. “And since you really look good in that dress, I'm going to buy it for you.” Calvin said. Joy surprised at what he said. “Calvin, you can't do that!” she said. Calvin turned to her and smiled. “Consider this as my anniversary gift to you...” he said. Joy smiled as she nodded her head. “Thank you, Calvin...” she said. She went back to the fitting room to take off the dress. Calvin smiled to himself as he watched Joy walked back to the fitting room. He sighed, thinking how lucky Jiro is to have a girlfriend like her. She is his dream girl, and she will always be. He may have a girlfriend before, and even told himself that he would be OK with just being her friend, but his heart would tell otherwise. He longs for her so much, but he knows he's wrong for loving her for she is his friend's girl.
As soon as Joy got out of the fitting room, they approached the sales lady. “Miss, we'll take the dress.” Calvin said to the sales lady. The sales lady looked up at them and smiled. “Your girlfriend is lucky to have a boyfriend like you who buys here this kind of pretty dress.” she said, winking at the two. The two were surprised at what she said. “Oh, no... you're wrong. He's just my friend.” Joy said. The lady just smiled at them. “Aiyo, you don't have to deny. I can see the love between the two of you, especially the love this guy have for you...” she said as she eyed Calvin. Calvin blushed at what the lady said. “Am I that obvious?” he thought. Joy looked up at her, giving her an apologetic look. “Sorry...” she said in a low voice. “Why are you saying sorry?” he asked. “Because someone thought that you are my boyfriend, you really don't have to buy me that dress, Cal...” she said. Calvin just smiled at her as he held her hand and squeezed it. “I don't mind at all, Joy. Not at all...”
--
“So now, you have the perfect dress, the perfect shoes... all you have to do is to prepare for the perfect night.” Calvin said as he drove her home that afternoon. “I'm actually quite nervous for this Saturday. I'm nervous and excited about Jiro's surprise for me.” Joy said. Calvin glanced at her, and then gave her a smile before he turned his attention on the road. “Actually, you really deserve to have a perfect night. After all those 12 months that you bear being with Jiro...” he said as he let out a nervous laugh. He was a little scared that Joy would be annoyed at his joke, but as he looked at her again, she was laughing as well. “You're right. It's really hard to take care of someone like Jiro. I mean, I have a lot of rivals when it comes to him...” “But hes not the only one who have to protect his place in your heart. I know Jiro have a lot of rivals when it comes to you.” “Well, he have to prove himself to me...” “And was he able to prove himself to you?” Joy smiled and nodded her head. “We all know that before Jiro and I got together, he dates a lot of girls. I don't know... maybe that time, he was also affected with his breakup with Celestine... or...” then Joy paused. Calvin looked at her, and saw the smile on her face slowly fade. “Or?” he asked. “Maybe...” she said, suddenly realizing a thought. “Maybe, he goes out with a lot of girls, because he is looking Tin in them...” she said. Then, she became silent. “And maybe...” she thought. “Maybe he found Tin in me...”

The man she loves
--
Jiro took the folder from the manager's hand, and then signed it. He smiled as he handed it back to him. “Thank you for choosing our restaurant to celebrate your anniversary, Mr. Wang.” the manager said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. Then he turned to Danson and Chun, who was sitting and waiting patiently for him. “Why does first year anniversaries always have to be special?” Chun asked, rolling his eyes at Jiro. “I mean, can't you just eat in a fancy restaurant then get it on after? Why do you have to bother with all the surprises?” he continued. Danson glared at Chun. “Wei, Joy is a very special girl. Of course, Jiro would make sure that that night would be a very memorable and special night for them. Don't you have any romance in your body?” he asked. Chun folded his arms, and looked at Danson. “I'm just being practical. I mean, if I have a girlfriend, and we have to celebrate our frist year anniversary, I will never rent the whole restaurant for that day.” Chun said. Jiro walked towards Chun, and smacked him in the head. Danson laughed as he watched him flinch in pain. “For your information, I did not rent the whole restaurant so just we have to be alone on Saturday night. We'll be having dinner at this restaurant's garden. I took advantage of the package they have for anniversaries.” Jiro said. Danson looked at Jiro and smiled at him. “You really love Joy after all. She is lucky to have you, Jiro.” he said. Jiro just smiled at Danson and nodded his head. “After all, this is the only thing I could do after all the things she have done for me...” he said in a low voice. “Well, it's not easy being around you for 12 months! If I were Joy, I would break up with you within a week.” Chun said. This time, Jiro hit Chun on his arm. Again, Chun flinched in pain.
“From what I see... Joy really loves you, and you do love her as well. I hop and pray that you and Joy would stay forever and ever.” Danson said. Jiro looked away from his friends ad then smiled bitterly. “You guys didn't know what she've been though this past year. And you didn't know how much I've hurt her. You don't know the pain I've caused her... and I felt guilty because despite of it all, she chose to stay by my side...” he said. Danson and Chun looked at each other, confused at what he said. As far as they are concerned, Jiro and Joy are the perfect couple. You would always see them sweet towards each other, and they never fought, except for that incident during their long vacation. Jiro have always been faithful to Joy, and Joy only loved Jiro. “What do you mean?” Chun asked Jiro. Jiro looked at them, and gave them a faint smile. “I will tell you, but you have to promise me that no matter what happens no one will know about this, especially Joy.” he said. The two nodded their head. “I love Joy... you all know that... but despite my love for her, there is someone who will always have my heart...” he began. “Is it that Celestine, your ex-girlfriend?” Danson asked. Jiro shook his head. “No, not Celestine. I would want to think that my love for Joy is different from my love for Celestine before. When I was with Celestine, I could not love her with all my heart. And it's because of my past. Now that I'm with Joy... I don't know. I love her... and I loved her because I see someone in her, someone whom I have longed to see.”
Jiro turned his gaze away from them again. “I feel guilty because I know I should forget all about my first love. But I really can't. God knows I tried my best... because Joy deserves something better that what she have now. But every time I try to let go, something's holding me back. It's like Tin doesn't want me to let go...” he continued. Danson finally understood what Jiro was trying to say. “So, you mean to say, you feel like you're hurting Joy because of Tin, your first love? Because you could not forget all about her?” he asked. Jiro nodded his head. “She may not say it, but I know I've been hurting her. She understood me, and I felt guilty for not being able to love her whole-heartedly. I felt guilty because she is fighting with my own ghost...” he said. Then, he looked at Danson. “I'm selfish, I know. But I want to make amend with my shortcomings. I want to be a better boyfriend that's why I'm doing this.” he continued. Danson gave him a smile, but he shook his head. “Jiro, you're not making yourself a better boyfriend just because of this special night. This is just for one day. What about the next few days, or years? If Joy will have to continue to compete with this Tin for your love, then you're only hurting her more. You have to chose who you will love between them.” he said. Chun nodded his head in agreement. “By the way, where's this Tin? Is she dead or something?” he asked. Jiro nodded his head. “I met her 10 years ago during our summer vacation. She saved me when I drowned. We became friends that summer, and then when our vacation is over, I promised her that I would come back and meet her the next year at the resort. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to come back since dad was assigned overseas and we have to go with him.” Jiro explained. “So, this Tin... you never saw her again after that summer?” Chun asked. Jiro nodded his head. “So, how did you know that you are really in love with that Tin. You only saw her once...” he asked again. Jiro turned away from him and smiled. “At that moment, when I opened my eyes, I thought I saw an angel.. And at that moment that she smiled at me, I knew in my young heart, that I have fallen in love with Tin...”
Danson shook his head as he listened to Jiro. “But, this is still wrong, Jiro...” he said. Chun and Jiro looked at him. “You love Joy, and you love this Tin. God gave us one heart so that we could only love one person....” he said. Then, he looked at Jiro. “Somehow, you have to decided between Tin and Joy... who will stay and who will you give up. It's either the past or the present. Yes, you're hurting Joy, but, you don't even know if that Tin feels the same towards you... in the end, you are only hurting yourself...”
--
That afternoon, Jiro found himself walking by the beach again. He was confused more than ever. He knew that he have to let go of Tin, for he knows it would be impossible to meet her again, but there's this part of his heart and his mind that tells him to hold on. He paused, and then looked at the necklace in his hand. How many times have he decided to let go of the past, and throw this necklace away? Whenever he tried to throw it, something holds him back. How many times have he promised himself to let go of the past and move on? Whenever he tries to start anew, the memories just keeps on haunting him like a ghost. He should be over it, after all, it's been 10 years. They have not seen each other for 10 years, but in those 10 years that he was away, his heart just keep on loving her. He continues on loving a girl, who doesn't even know about his feelings.
“Danson's right...” he thought. “I'm only hurting myself and Joy, if I continue loving you, Tin. Do you even know how much I love you? Do you even know how I feel towards you, this longing that I have for you?” he thought. Jiro closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. “It's now or never...” he thought. He opened his eyes, and then looked at the necklace one last time. As he was about to throw it away, he paused again. “Why can't I even let you go? Why can't I find the courage to give you up?” he thought. He lowered his hand and stared into the necklace again. He wanted to throw that, as well as the memories with it, but he just couldn't.
“You can never throw away something important to you like that, son...” he heard someone say. He looked back, and he saw an old man walking towards him. He gave Jiro a warm smile. “That necklace...” he said pointing at the necklace he was holding. “It should've been given to you by a very special girl back then...” he said. Jiro gave him a confused look, but he still nodded his head. “How.... how did you know?” he asked. The old man stood beside him, and then looked at the horizon. “Fifty years ago, I tried to do the same thing...” he said. “I thought I could forget her when the necklace is no longer with me... but I was wrong. The more I wanted to let go the harder it is.” Jiro sighed, and then looked at the elder beside him. “I have to do this. I have to, because it's hurting the girl who loves me. I could never love her if I would live in the past...” he said. The elder man looked at him and smiled. “I'm glad that you acknowledge the reason why you have to throw it away, but looking at you now... you can't even do it. You can never throw the happy memories you had with that necklace, am I correct?” he asked. Jiro was surprised at what he said. Then, he nodded his head slowly. “Deep inside your heart, there is still this hope, and this wish, that you would see the real owner of that necklace?” the elder man asked again. Jiro nodded his head again. He was surprised that this old man knows and understood what he was feeling at that moment. “Maybe, you are asking yourself why you can't let go. Why should you still it was still her after all this time... though you know you should live your life today, why are you still stuck at the past?” the elder man continued. “You really surprise me, grandpa. You know everything...” he said, shaking his head. The elder man turned into smile again and shook his head. “Everything that you are going through right now, I've been through that as well. Like you, I longed to see her, to have a happy ending, but I have to understand that God have better plans for us. If people are meant to be together, even if fate broke you two apart, in the end, only fate would bring the two of you back with each other. You just have to trust that one day, you will be with her once again... and most of all, you have to trust in her that her feelings will be the same for you. No matter how far she is from you, as long as you feel that she loves you and that you know in your heart that you love her, you only have to rely on that till the day she comes back to you.” he said. Jiro shook his head in confusion again. “I... I don't understand...” he said. “Son...” the man said. “Only the heart understands what the mind could not comprehend.”

The girl who wants him back
--
Saturday night.
“Thanks, Calvin.” Jiro said on the phone before he ended the call. It was the nght of their anniversary. With a little help from their friends, he was able to make the necessary preparations. Danson and Chun helped him prepare the venue, Kit helped Joy to prepare for tonight, while Calvin will drive Joy at the restaurant. They will be having dinner at the restaurant's garden, and they will be alone. Jiro also hired a violinist to serenade them during dinner. He ordered all of Joy's favorite food, and knowing his girlfriend, he knows she would complain about the food since it would make her gain more weight, but he also know that she would gobble it all up. He looked at the table, checking if everything is in place. He lighted up the candle at the center of the table, and then took the solitary red rose, and inhaled its fragrance. Calvin have just informed him that they are a block away from the restaurant, and he knows that anytime soon, Joy would arrive.
He heard footsteps coming towards him. He smiled towards him, for he assumed that it's already Joy. He turned around, smiling. But that smile faded when he saw Celestine standing in front of him, instead of Joy. “What are you doing here?” he asked. “I just want to talk to you...” Celestine said as she walked towards him. “Can't it wait? Tonight is our anniversary...” “It can't anymore, Jiro. I've been here for a long time, and I just to tell you this...” “Please don't ruin this night, Celestine. I know what you're up to. Don't do this to me and to Joy.
Celstine just ignored what he said, and she continued to walk towards him. “Jiro... Jiro I love you...” she said in a low voice. “Please come back to me. Please... I can't live without you. You mean the whole d**n world to me... please...” Jiro looked into her eyes, and he could see it filled with tears. He pitied Celestine, but he just can't love her back anymore. He's with Joy now, and he have no plans of leaving her side. “Celestine...” he whispered. “Please, Jiro. I'm willing to do anything for you... anything. I would accept it if you would continue to love Tin, just come back to me. I need you in my life...” she begged. Celestine held his hand, and looked into his eyes. “Please Jiro... you don't have to love me back... just chose me again...” she begged. Jiro turned away from her. “I... I'm sorry, Celestine...” he said. “I can't love you anymore...”
At that instant, Celestine let go of his hand. “Jiro...” she said.. “I'm with Joy now. I... I can't leave her...” he said. “But do you love Joy? Do you love her as much as you love Tin?” she asked. Jiro was surprised at her question. At that moment, he felt confused about his feelings towards Joy. The fact is, he fell in love with Joy because she sees Tin in her. She have similar traits as Tin, and it also helped that she looked like her. “Do you really love Joy, or you only loved her because she is like Tin in some ways?” Celestine asked her again. Jiro looked at her, and open his mouth to speak. His mind was telling him that he already have the answer, but his heart was hesitant if his answer is the right one. Does he really love Joy, or he loves Tin more than her?
Celestine smirked at seeing him stunned and speechless. “See? You can't even answer me right away. If you really love Joy, then you would immediately speak up. But you didn't. You didn't love me because of Tin, and you can't even love Joy with all of your heart because of her...” she said. She folded his arm and circled him. Jiro lowered his head, as if admitting his defeat. More than anyone else, it seems that Celestine knows his weakness. “Is she willing to share your heart with someone who seems to be a ghost of your past? Is she willing to understand in the end that you can never learn to forget Tin? Jiro, I know, and I understand. Maybe I was not able to accept it before, but I am willing to accept it now. Just come back to me...” she said. Jiro turned to face her. “I know she understands...” he said. Celestine shook his head. “I don't think so... maybe you have told her everything, but you don't know what could she be feeling. Have you asked her? Have you asked her what's her opinion about your unrequited love for Tin?” Celestine asked again. Jiro turned his gaze away from her again, unable to answer her question. Celestine put her palm on his cheek, and turned him to face her. “I am here, Jiro. I am not willing to accept you and your past. All I'm asking is another chance to be with you...” she said. Jiro closed his eyes, and sighed. “Celestine... I... I don't think it would work... even if I come back to you...”
At the corner of Celestine's eyes, she saw Joy approaching them. She let out a smirk, and before Jiro could finish his sentence, she reached up to him and kissed him passionately on the lips. Joy, who was about to approach Jiro, saw what Celestine did. She was shocked, confused and heartbroken all at the same time because of that sight. Meanwhile, Calvin, who was just behind him, could feel the anger building up inside him as he watched Jiro kissed another girl on his and Joys anniversary. Then, he looked at Joy, and he could see that she was heartbroken. Joy felt her kneed began to weaken, and the tears started to cascade from her eyes. “No...” she whispered. She shook her head, and then wiped the tears from her cheeks. Calvin reached for her hand, but Joy rejected his touch. “Joy...” he said in a loud voice. He could only watch Joy as she walked away from that place.
Upon hearing Joy's name, Jiro broke free from Celestine's kiss. He looked back, and he saw Calvin, and Joy as she was about to leave the garden. He suddenly became anxious upon seeing Joy crying. “Joy!” he called. He took a step to walk towards her, but Celestine stopped him. “Jiro... let her be. I don't think she would want to see you after she saw us kissing.” she said. Jiro only gave Celestine a glare. “You know what, you're right...” he said to her. Celestine let go of his arm. She stepped back, for she saw the anger registered in his face. “Maybe I am not in love with Joy because of Tin, and I will never come back to you... and it's all because of Joy.” he said. Celestine could only watch the man he loves chase after Joy. She was defeated, she knew at that moment. She have totally lost Jiro, and he lost him, not because of the girl from his past, but because of his present love. She have to learn to accept that their love story is finally over, and there's nothing she could do to start anew with him.
--
The heartache he have caused her
-- Jiro rushed to follow Joy, but Calvin blocked his way. “Joy!” he called.. Calvin pushed Jiro away. “Don't follow her!” he said, glaring at him. “You don't understand... What you saw -” “We know what we saw. And you chose to break her heart on this special day?” “You don't understand!” “If you prefer to be with that girl, then be with her. Don't ever follow Joy just to break her heart again.” Calvin turned his back to follow Joy, but after a few step, he paused and then looked back at him. “By the way...” he said. “Happy anniversary.”
--
Calvin found Joy sitting at a swing by the park a few blocks away from the restaurant. Her head is hanging low, and he could tell that she have been crying all throughout. “Joy...” he called as he walked towards her. Joy looked up at him, and then forced a smile at him. “Cal..” she said as she wiped her tears. Calvin knelt down in front of her. He took a handkerchief and then wiped her tears. “You're going to be OK...” he said to her. Joy just nodded her head. Then, she put her head on his shoulder, and Calvin embraced her. He let her cry onto his shoulder, and he stayed silent as he listened to her soft sobs. He knows she is in pain know, and he assured her that he is just there for her, willing to help her out.
Jiro finally found Calvin and Joy at the park. He felt his heart breaking when he saw joy in Calvin's arm. It's known to him that Calvin have always liked Joy, but he gave way to him and never pursued Joy because of their friendship. But at that moment, he felt like he already lost to Calvin. He finally made a decision, and now that he saw her with Calvin, he knows that the decision he made would be the best for everyone, especially Joy and Calvin. He just can't go on breaking her heart, and if Calvin would be the one who could give her the love she deserves, then he would accept it. “Joy...” he called. Calvin and Joy looked up, and saw him walking towards her. “Can we talk?” he asked. Calvin stood up, glaring at him. Joy looked at Calvin, and she could tell how mad he is, that he is going to attack him anytime soon. “Calvin...” she said as she held his hand. “It's OK. We have to talk about things...” she said. Calvin looked at her, and saw her give him a faint smile. “But Joy...” he said. “I'll be OK. Please leave us alone for a while...” she said. Calvin nodded his head. Before he leaves them, he gave Jiro a glare.
“Joy...” Jiro said as he walked towards her. “Please... please don't tell me you'll be getting back with Celestine. Please don't...” she said as she covered her ears. Jiro slowly shook his head. “I am not getting back with her...” he said. Jor looked at him, and smiled. She smiled and rushed to him, and gave him a hug. “I know you will chose me. I know that you love me. I know you could never leave me, right hunny?” she said. She waited for his answer, for his assurance, but Jiro remained silent. Joy looked up at him, and she saw the confusion written in his face. “Jiro?” she asked. “I... I know I should not do this. Not tonight... but there's no other right time but now.” he said. Joy let go of him, and made a few steps back. She could already sense what he was about to tell her. “Joy, I love you. I really do... but... but I know that I have been hurting you. I know I am breaking your heart because I could not let go of my past...” he said. She lowered her face to hide the tears that were falling from her eyes again. “You are a very special girl, and I am lucky that you chose to love someone like me. You accepted me, and understood me. You have been always there for me, and you have been a great girlfriend...” he said. Joy shook her head violently as she began to cry uncontrollably. “No... please don't say it...” she said as she buried her face on her palm. Jiro closed his eyes, as he could already feel the tears in his eyes. He never thought that what he was about to do would be this difficult. “I... I can't break your heart anymore, Joy. I don't want to see you hurt because of me. I have been a bad boyfriend...” “Don't say that, Jiro. You have been the greatest boyfriend.” “But I am not. How can I be great in your eyes if...” “I don't care, Jiro. I don't care! I love you, you love me, that should matter most. I don't care about your past. All I care about is our present and our future!”
Jiro didn't speak. “You didn't chose Celestine, and you chose me instead. I'm glad that you did what you should do. That's all that matters to me. I forgive you, Jiro. I forgive you for what you did back there. We could start anew, and we know that all the things that happened tonight, it would be something that would strengthen our relationship,” she said. Jiro closed his eyes as he sighed, and then he shook his head. “You don't understand, Joy...” he said. He opened his eyes and then looked into her eyes. “I love you... but I can't love with all my heart as long as I'm stuck with my past.” he said. He walked towards her as Joy began to cry again. “I have to let you go... I have to let you go first so that I could think things through. I need the space and time to forget Tin. I have to do this for myself, Joy...” he said as he held her. “No!” Joy shouted, breaking free from her. “If you love me, you will never leave me! I could accept everything, Jiro... just don't tell me that you're leaving me to forget your past....” she said. Jiro shook his head again. “I really have to do this, Joy. I've hurt you enough, and I can't bear seeing you hurt more because of me. Trust me with this, please? Once I have forgotten about Tin, I'll come back for you. I'll come back to you once my heart is free from the past, and I could love you whole-heartedly. I'll be back for you when I am sure that my heart would only be yours totally.” he said. Joy shook her head as Jiro speaks. “I know you will not... I know because that's what you did to Celestine, but you never came back to her. You never did.” she said. “I never promised her that I'll come back for her, but I'm promising you this. Please, Joy... this is the only thing you could do for me now...” he said. He reached for her and hugged her for the last time. He let the tears fell from his eyes, and he embrace her for the last time. Then, he looked into her face, as if memorizing everything about her. He closed his eyes again, and he kissed her for the last time on her lips. “I'm sorry... I'm sorry that I have to break your heart this way... but please trust in me...” he said.
Joy could only cry as Jiro turned his back to leave. Finally, the love story they shared have reached its end.

This is the end of their love story...

“Chunnie!” Kit said cheerfully when she saw him at the hallway. Chun paused, and the looked at her. He put his hands on his waist as he glared at her. “Where have you been all this time? We needed you!” he said. “Busy preparing for the wedding. I'm helping my cousin out, remember? And, I'm doing this so that she would agree to be your date on Uncle Sam's wedding!” she said. Chun sighed, and then began to walk. Kit followed him. “What's wrong?” she asked. Before Chun could answer, they bumped into Joy. Kit smiled at her, and Joy just gave a faint smile at her. She saw that her eyes have been red and swollen. “Hey, Joy! Anything wrong?” she asked. Joy simply shook her head. Just then, Jiro walked by them. He paused, and looked at Joy, and Joy just stared at him. Then, she turned to Kit and Chun. Kit looked at Jiro, and smiled at him. “Hey, Jiro! Looking good! So how was the anniversary?” she asked. The two did not answer her question. “I... I have to go..” Joy said. Then, she walked as fast as she could away from them. Jiro could only watch her as she tried to avoid him. “I... I have to go too...” he said. Then, he left Kit and Chun alone. Kit was confused with what's going on. “What's wrong?” she asked Chun. “They broke up. On their anniversary.” Chun said. Kit was shocked at what he said. “Really?” she asked. Chun nodded her head. “Oh my God, how come I didn't know? Maybe Joy need me now...” she said. She was about to follow Joy, but Chun stopped him. “Wei... Joy doesn't need you. Calvin's keeping her company...” Chun said. Kit paused, and then looked at Chun, He could clearly see the sadness in her eyes. “Oh... so Calvin have been with her all throughout...” she said. Chun nodded her head. “I'm sorry...” he said in a low voice. Kit looked up at him and forced a smile. “It's OK. I understand. It's inevitable anyway...” she said.
“We've been talking to Joy. Our problem is Jiro. He won't even speak to us about what happened. Maybe you could talk some sense into that guy...” Chun said. “Why should I talk to him. I'm a girl, and my sympathy should go with Joy.” “I know, I know... but Jiro's friend as well. Talk to him, OK?” Kit could only sigh as she nodded her head. “Fine... I'll go and talk to Jiro.” she said. Then, she went to follow Jiro's direction.
Kit found Jiro at the school garden. He was sitting at the bench alone, as he stared into something that he was holding in his hand. “Jiro...” she called. Jiro looked up at her and gave her a faint smile. She sat beside him. “I... I heard what happened. Want to talk about it?” she asked. Jiro shook her head. “I can't right now. I hope you understand...” he said. Kit nodded her head. “I understand, Jiro. If you think you are ready to talk about the breakup, you can always talk to me.” she said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. He stood up from the bench, and then put something inside his pocket. “I have to go..” he said. Then, he turned to leave. As Kit watched him walk away, he noticed the pink shell necklace again dangling from his pocket. She stared at it for a long time, wondering why it looked familiar. Then, she took the shell necklace and stared at it for a long time. “Weird...” she thought. Why does Jiro's shell necklace looks similar to the shell necklace that she have now?

Chapter 34 – I Loved You More Than You Can Imagine
A/N: I'm breaking my only-two-to-three-word chapter subtitles for this story, because the title of my favorite seems to be apt to the story of this chapter hehehe

The further it flies, the more it can’t be seen Your smiling face under the sun Over the line between the sky and the sea Walking away slowly You were once my horizon
--
It was Friday afternoon when Kit and her family (including Danson, Chun and Calvin) arrived at the resort. Uncle Sam's wedding would be on Sunday morning, but they decided to go to the resort earlier than planned to be able to help the Lin family with the preparations. “Get away from me, you are so annoying!” Ariel shouted at Chun, who was following her towards the rest house. “But Ariel, baby...” Chun said. Ariel looked at him, and rolled her eyes at him. “Don't call me baby, I'm not even your girl!” she said. Ariel stomped as she walked towards the house. Kit and Danson just watched as the Chun chases Ariel. “Aren't they funny?” Danson asked Kit. Kit smiled and nodded his head. He put his arm around her. “They just look cute together... bickering and all.” Kit said. Danson nodded his head. “I never thought Chun could be like this.” he said.
Meanwhile, Calvin was unloading their bags, and all throughout, he was watching Danson and Kit. He suddenly felt jealous when he saw them being too close. “Wei! Danson! Can you lend me a hand here?” he shouted. Danson looked at Calvin, and he could see him mad. “What's wrong with your best friend?” he asked. Kit just shrugged her shoulder. “You better help him out or he'll lash it out on you.” she said. Danson nodded his head. Then, he took that bag that Kit was carrying, and then watched her as she get inside the house before approaching Calvin. “Take those bags...” Calvin said, pointing at the bags on the ground. “I'll take her bag.” Calvin said, taking Kit's bag from Danson. Before he could protest, Calvin was already walking towards the house. “Wei! Not fair! She gave it to me!” he shouted. He sighed as he shook his head. “Don't tell me he's jealous of me?” he thought. He sighed again. Then, he collected the bags on the ground, and followed inside the house.
--
“Kit! Ariel! Calvin!” Uncle Sam said as the three approached him at the veranda. “Uncle Sam!” Kit said, smiling at the old man. Ariel and Kit gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Hey,Uncle Sam! Long time no see!” Calvin said. Uncle Sam smiled warmly at him. “It's been a long time since I last saw you, Calvin. You grew taller and more handsome, just like me.” he said. Calvin just smiled at him. “Of course, Uncle Sam. You know that you were my childhood hero.” he said. Uncle Sam smiled at the three. Its been a long time since he last saw them, and he could not believe that these kids have already grown up. He looked at Kit, and then smiled at her. “As expected, I know you will grow up to be a lovely princess.” he said to her. Kit smiled at him as she blushed. “Have you found your prince charming yet?” he asked. Kit shook her head, as she lied to the elder man in front of him. Then she thre a quick glance at Calvin. “I did, but too bad the princess is not allowed to fall in love with her prince charming...” she thought.
Just then, Danson and Chun. Uncle Sam looked at them, and then looked at Kit and smiled. “I see that you have brought to princes here. So, who among these princes captured your heart, Princess Kit?” he asked. Danson, Chun and Ariel laughed, while Kit blushed again and Calvin threw dagger looks at Chun and Danson. “Actually, Uncle Sam, I am Ariel's prince charming!” Chun said. Ariel stopped laughin after hearing what he said. She threw dagger looks at him. “Puh-leaze! I didn't even agreed to be your date on the wedding!” she said. All of them burst into laughter as the two starts to bicker again. Meanwhile, Danson walked over Kit, and then put his arm around her. Kit looked up at him and then smiled, and Danson smiled back at him. “So, this must be your prince charming.” Uncle Sam said to Kit. That instant, all of them looked at Uncle Sam, even Chun and Ariel who were bickering that time. “Kit! Why didn't you tell me that you're already dating Danson?” she said. She turned into a grin as she walked up to her. “Please tell me that you are dating Danson...” Ariel said as she held her hand. Kit laughed nervously as she shook her head. “O-of course not. We're just friends!” she said. Then she looked up at Danson, and saw him nodding his head. “Yeah, we're just friends...” he said. “For now...” he added silently.
Calvin looked at Kit and Danson, and then he felt jealous again. “What's going on with me? Why do I feel affected when Danson's around Kit?” he thought. Maybe he felt threatened with Danson around her. He felt like Danson's taking away his best friend from him, and that he is slowly taking his place in her life. He couldn't help but feel that way since he know how Danson feels for Kit, and though Kit may tell him that she only sees Danson as a friend, he could somehow see that she also sees Danson in a different way. He told himself several times that he would approve if Kit would chose Danson in the end, but why does he feel otherwise.
Uncle Sam noticed the expression on Calvin's face. “And the princess' best friend is getting jealous...” he commented. Calvin was surprised at what he said. “N-n-n-o, no, I'm not!” he stuttered. Kit looked up at him, and then smiled secretly. “So Calvin is jealous, huh?” she thought. She wanted to think that he is jealous because he feels the same way towards her, but that would be impossible. “Are you sure you are not jealous, Calvin?” Danson asked. He smirked at him, and then pulled Kit closer to him. Calvin was irritated with what Danson was doing. He sighed and then shook his head. “You guys can do whatever it is that you want. I'm tired, I need to rest.” he said to Danson. He turned to Uncle Sam and excused himself. Uncle Sam looked at Kit and Danson, and then smiled at him. “He is definitely jealous.” he assured them. Then, all of them burst out laughing.
--
Kit was walking through the shore, towards her favorite spot at the beach. She paused and then gazed into the horizon. She sighed as she smiled to herself. She could still remember those times that have passed, those summers when she patiently waited for Jay's return. She and Calvin would sit at this spot as they waited till sun comes down. When she finally realized that Jay is not coming, she would cry. Calvin would put his arm around her, and then console her. When she wouldn't stop crying, he would make ugly faces or make a silly dance just to cheer her up. Those little things that Calvin did when they were young, those little memories that she recollects just make her love him more and more.
But she only realized that she loves Calvin as more than a friend just a few years back. She always thought that she loves him as her brother, but he was wrong. She failed to notice the little things about him, those little things that he have done before to make her happy, and to make her feel special. Looking back, she have always thought is Calvin loved her before, but their promise for each other of not falling in love is holding him back, but maybe she is wrong. Maybe she is just giving all the things he have done a different meaning, and maybe Calvin did all of those things before because she's his best friend. “The whistle, the friendship bracelet, the rose you gave me on our last Valentine's day in high school, the second button on your school uniform that I forced to take on our graduation day... all those things that seem special to you, you gave it to me just to make me happy. Sometimes, I want to think that I am a selfish best friend, because all this time I always wanted your attention. I have always depended on you, that I do not even know what it's like not be by your side...” she thought. She sighed, as she sat on one of the big rocks by the shore. She wondered why they made that promise before, of not falling in love with each other? Was it because when they were young, everyone they know teased them to each other, that they got irritated? Or was it because they wanted to prove t everyone that a guy and a girl can be friends without falling in love with each other? Or was it because they learned from the mistake of other best friends they knew, who fell in love with each other but did not had a happy ending, and in the end just ruined their friendship? “It's all of the above...” she thought. Somehow, she regret making that promise with Calvin. If only she knew from the start that she would fall in love with Calvin, she would not have agreed to that promise, but even if they did not, what are the possibilities that he would acknowledge her feelings for him?
“Penny for your thoughts?” she heard someone say. She looked up and she saw Calvin standing beside her. “And I thought you were resting?” she asked. Calvin smiled and shook his head. Then, he sat behind her. “Don't tell me you're thinking of Jay again?” he asked. Kit could only sigh at him. Without her telling it, he already knew the answer to his question. Calvin turned his gaze away from her, as the smile on his face slowly disappears. “So, she still thinks of that guy...” he thought. “I don't have to think of Jay all the time, you know...” she said. “How could I if you're the only one that's on my mind?” she thought. There was an awkward silence between them for a while. “You know, you and Danson makes a great pair. Why... why don't you give him a chance? He deserves it after all...” he said. “Do... do you like Danson for me?” she asked. Calvin nodded his head. She looked at him, when she have not heard an answer from him. “Calvin?” she called. “I... I'm nodding my head.” he said in a low voice. “I've known Danson more than I know this Jay, and I know he could take care of you, in the same way that I have taken care of you all this time...”
Kit looked back at him again. “You trust Danson that much when it comes to me?” she asked. She saw him nod his head again. “I've seen that he treats you well. He have always been there for you, especially during our rift. He loves you too much, and I know if you choose him, you will be in good hands...” he said. Kit looked away from him and then gazed at the see. She smiled bitterly as she fell silent. “I... I just noticed that you are getting closer to Joy...” she began. “Are... are you planning to pursue her?” she asked. After uttering her question, she wanted to take it back. She know that Calvin have liked her ever since, and now that she and Jiro broke up, Calvin already have a chance to be with her. “I realized that I just can't be her friend anymore. The more that I am with her, the more that I am falling in love with her... but I have to respect that she was once Jiros girl, and so I decided to keep what I feel for her for the sake of Jiro.” he said. Kit fell silent after hearing what he said. Of all the people that will become her rival in Calvin's heart, it have to be her closest friend.

Have you had any reminiscence Last summer when we were together Having the feeling of love In the heart That is so strong And everything Seemed to be just yesterday
--
Jiro walked towards the shore, and gazed at the sea. It's a been a week since he and Joy broke up, and each day is more difficult than the other. He said that he have to let her go to forget his past, but when he broke up with Joy, he not only have to endure the guilt of his past, but the pain of his recent heartache as well. “I see that you've been visiting this beach more often...” he heard someone say. He looked back, and he saw the elder man he talked to a few weeks back. Jiro gave him a smile as he approached him. “It's you...” he said. The elder man nodded his head. “I see that you've been liking the scenery here, am I right?” the elder man asked again. Jiro nodded his head. “When I'm here, I feel that all my worries are being taken away by the waves... I just wish they could take my past and all my memories away as well...” he said. “Which part of your past would you like to be taken away, and which memory would you like to be retained?” the elder man asked. Jiro looked away from him and shook his head. “The part of my life when I broke a promise, and broke someone's heart.” “And why would you like to take that memory away?” “Because it only caused pain to the person I love the most, the girl whom I see myself in the future with...” “So, you want to totally forget the past love because of this present love... am I right?” “Yes...” “And if you are willing to forget the past love, then why are you still holding on to it?”
Jiro looked up to him, confused at what he said. The elder man simply smiled at him. “The necklace you've been holding on to. I know, that one came from your past love. Many times, I have seen you try and throw it away, but in the end, you would hold back, and decide to keep it. And now, I suspect you will do that very same thing you do everyday.” the elder man said. “I don't know if I could really forget all about my past love. Maybe because I long to see her once again, but never had the chance to do so...” Jiro said. The elder man looked at him and smiled. “Did you try searching for her?” the elder man asked. Jiro shook his head. “I... I don't know how... where to start... I know she's mad at me as well, as I made her wait on this beach for almost 10 years. Maybe she got tired of waiting for me...” Jiro said in a low voice.
“Son, have you heard the story of the princess and the pink shell necklace?” the elder man asked. Jiro gave him a curious look. “I... I think I heard that before... someone I know told me that story...” Jiro said. “Then, you must know, how their story ended?” the elder man asked. Jiro shook his head again. “I know that the princess save the prince, took her to their castle until the prince became well. During that time, they fell in love with each other, and thought they would be together for a long time... until the prince's father found him and took him back to their kingdom. Before he left, the princess gave him a pink shell necklace as a token of her love, and in return, the prince gave her a blue shell, with a promise that he will come back for her one day. I didn't know how the story ended... if the prince came back or not....” Jiro looked at the elder man, and the elder man smiled at him. “All I can say, is that in the end, the prince and princess finally found their happiness, even if it took a long time for them to be together once again...”
--
“Uncle Sam?” The elder man looked back, and he saw Kit holding a tray filled with cups of coffee. Kit went out of the veranda and then put the tray on the table. Then she took the seat beside him. “Are you excited for tomorrow, Uncle Sam?” she asked. The elder man smiled and nodded her head. “I've waited a long time for this moment, and I can't believe that this day have finally arrived.” Uncle Sam said. “You're lucky to finally have the woman you love, Uncle Sam... as for me... I still have to find the one.” she said. “Maybe you have already found him, and you have loved him for a long time, but you were scared to admit to him that you do. Or, maybe you have found him, but he's been away for a long time and have kept you waiting, that you finally decided to give up on him. Or, maybe you have found him, but you just won't give him a chance to love you...” Uncle Sam said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “I just hope one day, I could find the happiness that you're feeling right now.” she said. Uncle Sam smiled at him again, and held her hand. “You will, I know you will, Princess Kit.” he said.
“Do you still remember the story of the princess, the prince and the shell necklace?” Uncle Sam asked. Kit nodded her head. “I could clearly remember it, Uncle Sam. I never thought that that story would be your love story in reality...” she said. “Do you want to know what happened after the prince left the princess?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “After the prince left, a lot of things happened that he was not able to come back for the princess. Shortly after he came back to their kingdom, his father became ill and eventually died. He have to take care of his kingdom, and was too busy that he have forgotten his promise his promise. Meanwhile, the princess waited for her for years. Until one day, the princess finally gave up and decided to let go. She married the one whom her father have wanted her to marry. When the prince came back, he's too late. The princess is already married, and he was left alone. The prince did not give up his love for the princess, and he continued to love her from afar. Years have passed, and they grew old. The prince never married, while the princess became a widow. By a twist of fate, they met again, and the both knew in their hearts that the love they have for each other have never changed. In the end, the prince and the princess finally got together, despite their old age, and lived happily ever after...”
After Uncle Sam told her the story, Kit found herself in tears. “So, the prince have loved her despite their distance...” she said as she wiped the tear from her eyes. Uncle Sam smiled and nodded his head. “Like the prince, I know there is someone who have loved you despite the fact that he never came back for you... and he's continuing to suffer because of his love for you...” he said. Kit looked at him, confused at what he said. “Jay... he came back to look for you...” she heard him say. Kit was surprised at what he said. She could not believe that after all these years, he came back for her. Is it too late for him, because her heart has been completely taken away by Calvin?”
“Jay...” she said in a low voice. “I knew it was him. He still have that pink shell necklace that you gave him ten years ago. He held on to it for a long time... and I could see how he have suffered because he could not let go of his past. And I could tell that he have continued to love you...” Uncle Sam said. “You saw him? Is he here today?” she asked. Uncle Sam nodded his head. “I believe he's still here. He love to linger around the shore, and reminisce the past. You would still be able to find him if you act now.” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. She stood up from her seat and gave Uncle Sam a hug before going on her way to find Jay. As she watched her leave, Uncle Sam smiled. “One day, princess, you will finally find your happiness...” he thought.
--
Kit searched high and low for Jay. She went to the beach, but it was deserted. She looked for him at their spot, but she found it empty. “Jay!” she called. There was no answer. No one is around the area except for her. “Jay! Where are you!” she shouted again. She felt her tears streaming down her face as she looked for him. “I have to find him... this is my only chance to find him...” she thought. But she guess she's too late. It seems that he have already left.
Meanwhile, at a far corner of the beach, Jiro heard someone call his name. He stood up and searched for the one who was calling her. “Tin? Tin, is it you?” he asked himself. He walked as he tried to find the person calling his name. “Tin!” he shouted. “Tin! Is it you? Tin!” he called. But there was no answer to his call. He sighed, and then he shook his head. “Maybe I'm just imagining things...” he thought. He shook his head again and decided to call it a day. He walked towards the parking lot, and decided to go home.
Kit rushed to the parking lot, and he saw a guy getting into his car. “Jay?” she called. She ran after the car and then called on him. “Jay!” she shouted. But the guy did not bother to stop at her. She stopped running when the car is already far, and that she could no longer follow it by running. “Jay... why did you leave me again...” she thought.
Jiro walked outside the parking lot, when she saw a girl standing far away from him. He stared at her for a long time. Then, he shook his head, and then headed to his car to leave.

The waves crashing towards the edge of the beach (The sea breeze is just like your breath) I saw our footprints again (That was the track of my memory) If the chance of meeting my happiness is one in a million I’ll not bother about anything To get you back
--
The wedding march began, and Kit walked through the aisle of the church. From the altar, she saw Calvin smiling at her. She wanted to continue walking until she reaches him, but somehow, she have to give way to the bride. Today is the day of the wedding of Uncle Sam and Auntie Esther. She witnessed how love stood through time, as the two elders, who have been distant for a long time, was finally reunited by fate. She cried as she listened to their wedding vows. She cried when Uncle Sam promised to take care and love Auntie Esther until his last breath. She cried when Auntie Esther promised to be bu his side until her last breath. What made her cry was how their love story was told during the ceremony. It was exactly the same as the story that Uncle Sam told them when they were young.
“You may now kiss the bride.” the priest said to the bride and the groom. Kit watched as Uncle Sam smiled lovingly at his wife. He took off the veil from her face, and reached to her and kissed her on the lips for a long time. Everyone stood up and clapped at them. After all the things that they have been through, they only deserve the happiness that they have now. Kit wiped the tear from her eyes as she watched them. As she looked to her side, she saw Calvin handing her a handkerchief. He smiled at him, and she laughed as she took the handkerchief from his hand. “You're such a cry baby, you know?” he said. “I couldn't help it. Everything is just so heartwarming...” she said. Calvin let out a faint laugh. “You're such a hopeless romantic, Kit. Don't tell me you would like to have this kind of wedding in the future?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Nothing could be more perfect than to marry the man I love. Even if the wedding is simple, as long as I'll be with him for the rest of my life, I'll be very contented...” she said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. Then, he put his arm around her as they watched the newlywed couple take pictures.
Meanwhile, Chun and Danson were at the other side, watching Calvin and Kit. Chun looked at Danson, and he could see the jealousy in his face. “Wei, no right to be jealous, Danson. You didn't even have the guts to let her know how you feel.” Chun said. Danson looked at Chun and smiled. “I am not jealous. Who said that I am jealous?” he said. Then, he looked at Kit and Calvin again. “I just wish, for once, she would see me in the way that she sees him.” Danson said in a low voice. Chun sighed, and put his hand on his shoulder. He knows that he is suffering as much as she does, for he have secretly loved Kit. “Tell her how you feel. That is, if she really is the one that you love...” Chun said. Danson gave him a confused look. Before he could ask him a question, he felt his phone vibrate. He took it from his pocket, and Hannah's name flashing on the screen. Chun smirked as he peeked at his phone. “Well... whatever your question is, maybe you'll have some answer after you speak to Hannah.” he said. Danson just laughed at what Chun said. He have a feeling that he will tease him again with Hannah. He excused himself from him and then stepped out to answer the call.
--
“Danson Tang, you sissy! I've been here for a month now, and you know very well that we promised, I repeat WE promised each other that we are going to tell them that we love them. But what happened? In the end, I was the one who ended up confessing to Calvin while you... YOU were taking it slowly with Kit!” Danson flinched as he hear Hannah shouting at him over the phone. When Hannah stopped shouting into his ear, he put his phone back on his ear. “Done shouting at me?” he asked. His lips formed into a smile as he hear her sigh. “Danson Tang! You coward!” she shouted at him again. “Wei. It's not that easy...” “Not that easy? Not that easy? Do you think it was easy on my part when I confessed what I feel towards Calvin? You think it was easy on my part when I told him that I am the paper crane girl, huih? Tell me what you think.”
Danson let out a laugh. Hannah is being hysterical again. Ever since she went to Vienna and found out that he have not confessed anything to Kit, she have been badgering him about it. Seems like Hannah is more worried about his love life than him. “Stop worrying about it. I'll tell Kit...” he said. “And when? Tell Kit now or I'll be forced to call her and tell her that Danson Tang is in love with her.” Hannah said. Danson became alarmed. “No!” he exclaimed. “'Don't do that. OK... OK... I'll tell her now... Just don't call her, will you?” he said. He heard Hannah laugh at the other line. “Do I really have to threaten you that way so that you'll tell her? Now, how will I know if you have confessed you love for her?” “Call her after two days, then you'll know... but... but what if she rejected me?” “Don't worry, I'll find you a hot Austrian girlfriend here...” Danson smiled again at what she said. “OK, better keep you promise about getting me a hot Austrian girlfriend...” he said.
--
“And now, the bride will throw the bouquet...” they heard the emcee said. The ladies began to form a line, including Ariel and Kit. Auntie Esther smiled at the girls before she turned her back on them. “Ready to catch the bouquet, ladies?” she asked. Everyone shouted. “I do hope the next one who would catch the bouquet would be lucky in love!” she said. Then, she counted up to three, and then thre the bouquet in the air. Everyone was trying to catch it, except Kit. Just then, the bouquet found it's way to her hands She was just as surprised as everyone around her. “Wow... Kit Jie will be the next one wholl get married!” she heard one of the ladies said. Kit blushed, and then looked at her cousin, who was nudging her.
After throwing the bouquet, Autie Esther took a seat, and Uncle Sam knelt in front of her, taking off the blue garter from her legs. Then he stood up. He twirled the garter in the air as the guys began to line up. “Let's see who will the Princess Kit's future partner.” he said, eying Kit and winking at him. He turned his back on the guys, and counted before he threw the garter in the air. Meanwhile. Calvin and Danson stood behind the other guys. Calvin nudged Danson, and as the latter looked up at him, he smiled. “Better be alert, Danson. You wouldn't want anyone to get a kiss from Kit.” he said. Danson smiled back at him. “I think you should be the one who should be alert. You would be jealous if another guy would catch the garter.” he said. After Uncle Sam counted to three, he threw the garter into the air. It landed at the back, and both Calvin and Danson reached for it. Chun was surprised when he saw the two holding the garter. “So... the two of you will be Kit's future husband?” he asked. The two shook their head. Calvin looked at Danson, and let go of the garter. “You should have it.” he said. Danson shook his head, and gave the garter to him. “No, you caught it first. You should be Kit's partner...” he said. Calvin shook his head. “No, it was you who first got this...” he said.
Annoyed, Chun walked towards then, and then took the garter from them. “If you guys don't want this, then I'll take it.” he said. “No!” the two exclaimed in unison. Then, they looked at each other. “Fine... I'll take it.” Calvin said as he turned to Chun. He took the garter, and then walked to where Kit was seated. Chun put his hand on Danson's shoulder as they watched Calvin put the garter on Kits legs. “Why do you always have to give way to Calvin, huh?” he said to Danson. Danson looked at him and gave him a faint smile. “Well, Calvin is the only one that makes her happy. You know that I would do everything to see her this happy...” he said. Chun just shook his head, a little disappointed with his friend's martyrdom.
After Calvin put the garter on Kit, everyone cheered on them for a kiss. Calvin looked at Kit, and saw Kit smiling at him. “Wei, it's just a friendly kiss.” she said. Calvin laughed at what she said. “I know you have always wanted to be kissed by the famous heartthrob, Calvin Chen.” he boasted. Kit laughed at what she said. The two looked at each other, and then Calvin moved closer to her. She closed her eyes, hoping that Calvin would kiss her on the lips. But to her dismay, Calvin only gave her a kiss on the cheek. She opened her eyes, and saw her best friend grinning at her. “And you thought I'll be kissing you on the lips?” he asked. Kit frowned and shook her head. “As if!”
--
“Calvin...” Calvin turned around and saw Uncle Sam walking towards him. Calvin stood up and helped the old man to sit beside him. “Congratulations by the way, Uncle Sam.” he said. The old man smiled at him. “I wish I would live to see the day that I will come on your wedding day as well, and congratulate you.” he said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. “I wish you and Auntie Esther would be able to come to my wedding, if I will be getting married.” he said. Uncle Sam laughed at what he said. “Of course you will, silly boy! With your handsome face, every girl would like to marry you...” he said. Then, Uncle Sam smiled and tapped his shoulder. “Tell me, my son, is there a special girl that makes your heart beat fast?” he asked. Calvin nodded his head. “There is a special girl, Uncle Sam. A very special girl...” he answered. “Oh... I see... and this special girl... have you told her how you feel?” Uncle Sam asked. This time, Calvin shook his head. “I have not told her yet that I love her. I know she is in pain right now, and the only thing I could do is be by here side and help her through her heartache..." he said. Uncle Sam as he nodded his head. “But I hope you plan on telling her soon. If you wouldn't tell her right away, and if you hesitate, you might lose that chance. You might regret it in the end...” he said. “I know that Uncle, but I don't know how I will tell her. Not only did she just broke up with her boyfriend, I'm scared that she would turn me down. I know she only sees me as a friend, and nothing more. I have loved her for so long...” “There's a big risk that you take when you tell that girl you love her. Your opening your heart to the possibilities of being broken. But it's worth the risk, trust me. If she does not accept your love, then face it. If you feel that you still love her despite the fact that she rejected you, then continue to love her even in silence.”
Uncle Sam smiled warmly at him again, and put his hand on his shoulder. “Trust me, son. Dont make the same mistake that I've done in the past. While you're still young, tell everyone you love how you feel, because when time passes and they have already gone, you will never have the opportunity again to tell them, and it will be too late.”
--
Calvin walked towards the beach, and he saw Kit standing and gazing at the sea. “Kit...” he called. She looked back at him and then smiled at him. He walked towards her, and then stood by her side. “You seem happy today...” he said. Kit nodded her head. “Thank you...” she said to him. Calvin gave her a confused look, wondering why she was thanking him. “Thank you because you agreed to be my date today.” she continued. “Oh, it's nothing... you know I would do everything to make you happy...” he said, smiling at her. Kit turned her gaze away from her and then watched over the sea. “Ever since we were young, you have always been there for me. You made me smile even though there's no reason to smile... you were the one who always looks after me. You protected me whenever I am in danger, and you were always there to be the shoulder that I could cry on. Thank you for all the things you have done for me...” she said. Calvin smiled, and then put his arm around her. “You have always been supporting me, and encouraging me. I should be the one thanking you. And, as your best friend, it's my pleasure to do all the things that I have done before.” he said. Kit nodded her head. “I know... I know...” she said.
As she looked at the see, her eyes began to be filled with sadness. “You have done so much for me... and it would be to much for me to ask you to love me. I know I couldn't ask you that anymore. After all, we made a pact of not falling in love with each other. I hope you could forgive me for loving you too much. I never realized I could love someone like this. Calvin, I love you more than you can imagine... I love you too much, that it's surprising me as well, because I never thought I could love you this much...” she thought. Calvin noticed the change in her expression, and this made him worried. “Kit, are you OK?” he asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Of course I am. Maybe, I'm a little carried away with the whole wedding. I wish I could have a wedding as solemn as this one...” she said. She looked at him, and stared into his eyes. “I wish I could spend the rest of my life with you...” she thought. Calvin smiled at her. “I think we all did got carried away. Chun is already confessing her love to your cousin, which irritated her more. The worst thing is, Matthew seems to side Chun.” he said. Kit laughed at what he said.
“The truth is, there is something that I have learned from Uncle Sam's story. You should tell the people you love how you feel before it's too late...” Calvin said. “And now that you learned a lesson, what are you planning to do?” Kit asked. Calvin took a deep breath and smiled. “I realized he's right. I should not keep my feelings to myself...” he said. Then, he looked at her again. “Kit, I have decided...” he began. Kit listened to him, smiling as she waited for him to speak again. “I have decided to tell Joy how I feel...”
--
Then I realised I loved you more than I’ve imagined It is only accidental that I miss you Everytime I’m alone in the night I analysed myself honestly
--
Upon hearing that, she felt her heart breaking into a million pieces. She was fighting the tears from falling her eyes, and she did her best to smile in front of him. “Oh...” she said. “T-that's great...” She turned her back on him so that he would not see her sadness. “Really? You know, I'm not really planning to tell her right away. Maybe in my own little ways, I could let her know that I love her. When I know that's she have moved on, and she's OK, I can court her. Do you think I stand a chance with Joy?” he said. “O-of course...” Kit said. “Any girl would want to have you as their boyfriend, Calvin. I-if you l-let Joy know that you really love her and that your i-intentions are real, I know that s-she would f-fall in love with you...” she said. Then, Calvin noticed that Kit has been stuttering. “Kit, are you OK?” he asked. “Yes, I am...” she answered.
She wiped the tear from her cheeks, and forced a smile on her face before facing him again. “I would approve of Joy for you. If she chose to love you, then I know she would love you with all her heart...” she said. “I know you would approve of her. After all, you two have gotten closer for the past few months. Don't worry, I won't make the same mistake that I did when I was with Trixie. Anyway, I'm confident that the two of you won't clash, since you two are very good friends.” he said. Kit just nodded her head. Even though Calvin have just told her his plans, she felt that she's going to lose him again, and this time, she's losing him completely to her friend. But she knows that this is what makes him happy, and there's nothing she could do to stop him from being happy. She just have to let him do what he wants to do, even if it's breaking her heart.
Calvin smiled and then hugged Kit. “Kit, thank you...” he said to her. “Thank you for always encouraging me. Thank you for understanding me. You're the greatest and I'm glad that you're my best friend.” he said. Then he looked at her and smiled. “Anything for you...” she said in a low voice. “You're going to help me with her, right? You would help with Joy?” he asked. Kit closed her eyes as she nodded her head. “I know you would...” she heard him say as he hugged her again. “I'll do anything for you...” she said silently. “Anything for your happiness...”
--
Kit was sitting at her favorite spot on the shore as she cried. She have always thought that she would be ready if Calvin finally decided to court Joy, but she was wrong. The pain that she is feeling now is equals to how much she loves him. She knows that she have no right to feel hurt or even jealous because she is just a best friend, but more than being a best friend, she is a girl in love with a guy that she could never have and she should never love. If only she knew that loving Calvin would hurt this much, then she should have heeded her heart from the start not to fall in love with her best friend.
“You're such a crybaby...” she heard someone say. She looked back, and saw Chun standing behind her. He walked towards her, and sat beside her. “You don't have to say what's the reason why you are crying, because I know who caused those tears. It's Calvin, isn't it?” he asked. Kit slowly nodded her head. “I know I should not cry for him, but I can't...” she said in a low voice. “Like the way that you love him even though you shouldn't?” he asked. Kit nodded her head again. “It hurts, Chun... it really hurts.. I thought all this time I'm ready for this kind of pain, but I never thought it would hurt this much...” she said. Chun looked at her, and then held her hand. “So, he finally told you his plans of courting Joy?” he asked. Kit paused, and then slowly looked up at him. “You... you know?” “I have a hunch that he will court her, since shes free again. I have always known that he have a huge crush on Joy, and he was heartbroken when she and Jiro got together.”
He looked at Kit as she gazed into the sea. He could clearly see the pain and sadness in her face. “Why are you keeping your feelings to yourself? Let him know...” he said. Kit just shook her head. “I told you before, and I'm telling you once again. I'd rather keep my promise and break my heart. I loved Calvin too much, and if I lose him as a friend, I don't know what to do...” she said in a low voice. He put his arm around her, and let her rest her head on his shoulder. “If you would rather have your heart broken, then wouldn't it hurt to give someone a chance to mend it for you?” he asked. Kit looked up at him, confused. But all the Chun did was give him a warm smile.
--
Always waking up startled from my dream That I still can’t deny I loved you more than I’ve imagined
--
Danson walked over through the shore, and he saw Chun and Kit together. Chun looked at him, and smiled, then he stood up. He walked towards him, and then winked at him. “You're turn. I've made the introduction, it's up to you to tell her everything.” he said. Chun looked at Kit, and saw her standing up from where she was sitting. She gave them a confused look. “Remember what I said.” Chun said to her. Danson and Kit watched as Chun leaves. As soon as he is gone, Kit turned to Danson. “Is there something that you want to tell me?” she asked. Danson smiled shyly and nodded her head. “It's something that I've been wanting to tell you... but something's holding me back...” he began. He walked towards her, and then he looked down and held her hands. Then, he looked up at her and stared into her eyes. “Kit... we've been friends for so long. I'm glad that you gave me a chance to be closer to you. But, you can't blame me... you can't blame me if each day that I'm with you... each day that I'm with you, I'm thinking of not being your friend anymore...” he said. Kit was surprised at what he said. “D-did I anything wrong to you?” she asked. Danson let out a nervous laugh and shook his head. “No, you did not. Everything about you is perfect. Just perfect. And I liked you because of that...” he said. This made Kit even more confused. “Then, why don't you want to be friends with me?” she asked.
Danson paused. He lifted up his hand, and gently touched her cheek. “Kit, each day I am with you... my feelings for you have always changed. It grows stronger each day, and the more that time passes, the more that...” he paused again and shook his head. He felt like the words coming out of his mouth is not right. Most of all, he felt like Kit would not understand what he was saying. “It's just that I... I have learned.. I mean, I realized that...” He shook his head and then stared into her eyes again. “Kit, I love you.” he said. Then, Kit smiled. He was surprised, as he was expecting her to feel awkward because of his confession. “B-but I know that you are in love with someone else. I know that he will be the only one in your heart, and I understand that. I... I am not expecting anything from you, or even love me back. I just want to say that I love you, and ask you if I could continue loving you. I promise I won't ask anything from you. If you think that you only see me as a friend, then I accept that. If you won't give me a chance, I would understand.” he said.
Danson looked at her, as he waited for her to speak. She smiled at him again, and then gave him a hug. “Danson, thank you...” she whispered to her. “Thank you for understanding me... and I'm sorry that I could not love you the way that you do. I'm sorry that I can't give you a chance, because he have taken my heart completely...” she said. Then, she let her go and looked at him. “I hope you would understand that I could only offer you my friendship.” she said. Danson smiled and nodded his head. “B-but you will just let me love you silently?” he asked. Kit shook her head. “It would be unfair for you. You deserve to be happy and be loved in return.” she said. Danson smiled and shook his head. “No, it's not... if you think that you'll only hurt me, I'll be fine. I just want to love you, to continue loving you... will you give me that chance to love you?” he asked. Kit just stared at her for a long time, and then she nodded her head. “I... I don't want to be selfish anymore, Danson. I really don't want you to do this, but if its the only thing that could make you happy, then yes... I will let you love me...” “I understand that you could not love me back. I really understand.” “But you have to promise me... when you feel that I'm hurting you, you will let go...” Danson smiled and nodded his head. Kit smiled, and then gave him another hug.
--
All this time, Calvin have been watching Kit and Danson. When he saw Kit hug Danson, he finally understood that Kit have given him a chance. He should be happy for his best friend, in the same way that she have been a while ago, when he told her that he decided to court Joy. But, he couldn't help but be sad. He's used to being the only guy in his life, but know, there's someone else that would be loving her. He admits, since the day Danson told him that he is in love with Joy, he felt mad and jealous. He was selfish when it comes to Kit, always wanting her time and attention, but he realized it's about time that he let her be happy. If she would be happy with Danson, then he should let her, and give her blessing to them.
“Best wishes... Kit...” he whispered. Then, he turned his back, and walked away from the beach.
--
It was already night time when they all headed home. Inside the van, Calvin was the only one remaining awake, while Ariel, Chun, Danson and Matthew were already snoring. Calvin smiled as he looked at them. Then, he looked at Kit, who was sleeping beside her. She was leaning to her seat, and he could tell that she's not comfortable with her position. Calvin sighed, and then he shook his head. He took Kit's head, and then let her lean on her shoulder. As she sleeps, she stared at her, just like what he used to do. Before the left the beach, Kit have told him that Danson already confessed his feelings for her, and she said that she's considering to give him a space in her heart.
“It won't be long before he will take my place completely. I know Danson will never hurt you, and that he'll take care of you. I wish all the happiness in the world, Kit...” he whispered to her. And just like before, when he watched her sleep, he reached down to her, and kissed her on the lips.

Chapter 35 – Losing Him
Two months later...
Kit stood in front of Calvin's locker. In her hand, she was holding a paper crane, and on the other hand, she was holding her love note. Although Hannah have already left, she couldn't help but continue leaving the paper cranes and love notes for him. For her, it's her only way to express her love for him. She inserted the note inside his locker, and then hung the paper crane to the locker's handle. She looked at it for a while, and then smiled to herself. “If you keep on doing that, Calvin will eventually find out that you are the paper crane girl...” she heard someone say. She looked back, and saw Danson standing behind her. “He won't catch me. I know his schedule, and I know when to leave the paper cranes.” she said. “But still, you should be careful...” he reminded her. Kit smiled at him, and then she sighed. “I don't know... there's a part of me wanting him to know that I am the one that he was looking for, so that he could finally understand... but a big part of me wouldn't want that to happen because I'm scared with how he will react...” Kit said. Danson gave her a warm smile, and then he held her hand. “Come on... the bell's gonna ring anytime. If he find you standing here with that paper crane on his locker, he would get suspicious.” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. Then, the two of them walked away from Calvin's locker.
A few minutes later, the bell rang, and the hallway was once again was filled with students. Calvin rushed to his locker, to find another paper crane hanging on it. Calvin could only sigh as he took it. He placed it inside, and then opened his locker. On top of his books, he saw a small yellow note. He took it, and read it's contents.
“Sometimes your nearness takes my breath away; and all the things I want to say can find no voice. Then, in silence, I can only hope my eyes will speak my heart”
Calvin just shook his head as he stuff the note into his planner. The day that Hannah told her that there is another paper crane girl aside from her, he felt tired with the search. He promised Hannah before she left that he will continue to let this paper crane girl to love him secretly, but somehow, he's getting tired with what she's doing. He decided not to find her, because it's no use anyway. It's tiring to find someone who doesn't want to be found. And so, he decided to just keep the paper crane and the notes, who knows those might be of use to him in the future.
“Cal...” he heard someone call. He looked back, and saw Joy walking up to him. He smiled at her. “Hey...” he said as he held her hand. “We don't have classes today. It's your vacant period, right?” she asked. Calvin nodded his head. “Great! So can we have an early lunch at the cafe? I'm really hungry...” she said. “Don't tell me you skipped your breakfast again?” he asked. Joy smiled and shook her head. “Of course not! I ate breakfast, but I was in a hurry that's why I wasn't able to eat a lot.” she explained. “You woke up late?” he asked. Joy nodded her head. “And it's your fault. I told you to put down the phone already but you keep on telling me those funny stories!” Joy said. Calvin just laughed at what she said. After Joy and Jiro broke up, the two of them have gotten really close. Calvin was the one whom she cried to during that phase, and he listened to her and cheered her up. Calvin, on the other hand, was happy that he was able to do those things for her. It seems to him that Joy have already moved on because of all the things he have done.
“OK, let's have an early lunch. My treat.” he said. Joy pouted at him and shook his head. “You're always treating me out. It should be my turn this time!” she said. Calvin just shook his head. “Not today. Maybe next time.” he said. Then, Joy turned to smile. “Promise?” she said. Calvin nodded his head. “Promise.”
--
On their way to the cafe, Joy and Calvin saw Kit and Danson. “Kit! Danson!” Joy called. The two looked back, and they saw them walking towards them. As Kit looked down, she saw Calvin holding Joy's hand. In that instant, she felt the smile on her face slowly disappeared. Danson saw the change in her expression. He put his arms around her, and when she looked up at him, he smiled. “Smile... you'll only make him think that there's something wrong with you...” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Hey... are you guys going to have lunch?” Joy asked. The two nodded their head. “We have a big English test coming up this afternoon, so we have to fill up before reviewing.” Danson said. “Hey, we're going to have lunch too. Why don't you join us? My treat.” Calvin said. Kit gave Calvin confused look. “Wei... it's so unlikely of you to treat us for lunch. You're a very thrifty and cheap guy as far as I can remember...” she said. She walked towards him and looked at him from head to foot, and then she crossed her arms. “Who are you and what have you done to my best friend?” she asked. Joy and Calvin could not help but laugh at her reaction. “I am still Calvin Chen, and yes, for a change, I'm treating you guys for lunch, OK?” he said.”Fine..” Kit said. “I'm glad you are treating us out for lunch because I'm really starving and I will order a lot of food.” she said to him. Before Calvin could react, she turned her back on him and held to Danson's arm. Together, they went inside the cafe. “Good thing I'm loaded...” Calvin said in a worried tone. Joy just laughed at him. “Kit and I are the same. When we're starving and really hungry, we eat a lot, not minding our figures after that.” Joy said. “Well,” Calvin said as he put his arm around her. “I like girls who eats a lot, not minding if they'll get fat or not...” he said. Again, Joy just laughed at him. “I think we should go inside. I know Kit easily gets impatient when she's hungry.” she said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head, and then they followed the two inside the cafe.
Inside the cafe, Kit and Danson sat at their favorite corner while they were waiting for Joy and Calvin, who were ordering their food at the counter. After a while, Joy and Calvin came, holding the tray in their food. “Here's our food!” Joy said as he put the tray on the table. “Goody! I'm starving!” Kit said. She took one of the burgers on the tray, then she looked at Calvin. She saw him open the box of pizza, and put a slice of pizza on her plate. As he looked at Joy, he saw her smiling at him. “Thank you...” she said. Kit just sighed sadly as she watched them. She lowered her head, as she opened the wrapper of her hamburger. Then, she noticed that they ordered hot fudge sundaes. “Wei... where's my caramel sundae?” she asked. Calvin gave her a confused look. “Don't you like hot fudge?” he asked. Then, she looked at him sadly. “Joy liked hot fudge sundae, so I thought you wouldn't mind having a hot fudge sundae as well...” he said. “But you know that I always order caramel since I prefer it, right?” she said in a low voice. Danson could already see that she was upset about it. He looked at her, and then held her hand. “Don't worry, I'll get you a caramel sundae, OK?” he said, smiling at her. Kit looked at her and shook her head. “It... It's OK...” she said, trying to smile. “I like hot fudge as well...” she said as she took one sundae. “Kit... I'm really sorry... it slipped my mind that you prefer caramel sundae over hot fudge...” Joy said in an apologetic tone. She tried to smile at Joy. “It's OK. I guess it's better if I have hot fudge once in a while...” she said. Then she laughed nervously. Then, Calvin smiled at her, then turned to Joy, totally ignoring her.
All throughout the lunch, Kit just watched as Calvin and Joy happily chatted. It's like they're caught up in their own little world, and that they even bother that she and Danson is with them. For her, it seems that they have this mutual understanding, because as they chatted, it seems that only the two of them could understand what they were talking about. She just listened to them as they chatted. It seems that Calvin have shown another side him to Joy, that he have now shown to anyone, especially her. It seems that Calvin have told her his innermost secrets, that only she could know. It also seems that Joy have known Calvin until the very last details. From time to time, Joy would turn to her and tell her those things that she have discovered about Calvin that she have known a long time ago – like him telling really corny and cold jokes, the most embarrassing things that happened to him during childhood, his habit of humming his favorite nursery rhyme when he's really nervous – those little things. She felt like he's slowly replacing her with Joy, and she felt jealous because of that.
“Did you know that I've heard him snore the other night!” Joy said as she turned to him. Kit gave her a confused look. “What do you mean?” she asked. Joy smiled at her. “We were talking over the phone Saturday night. I already told him to get some sleep, but he insisted on talking to me, then before we knew it, we already fell asleep and forgot to put the phone down. The next day when I woke up, I picked up the phone and I heard him snoring really loud!” she said. Kit was surprised at what she said. “Y-you talked to Joy the whole night?” she asked as she turned to Calvin. “Yeah... you were out last Saturday, so I decided to annoy Joy.” he said. Then, she turned her eyes away from him. “I... I wasn't out last Saturday...” she said in a low voice. Joy gave her a confused look. “You weren't? But Calvin told me -” “Actually we were just playing video games with her younger sister last Saturday, right, Kit?” Danson said as he smiled at Kit. Then, she felt him squeeze her head. “Y-yeah... we did...” she said. It's partly true, as Danson stopped by last Saturday, and they hang out at their house and played video games. But he didn't stay long, as he's going to meet up with Chun. “That's why I wasn't able to reach you last Saturday...” she thought. Suddenly, Calvin felt guilty for lying. He made Kit an excuse so that he could talk to Joy on the phone. “Kit...” he said in a low voice. As he looked at her, he saw her smiling. “Anyway, It's good to know that you two are really getting close. At least someone would share my agony of being Calvin Chen's best friend.” she said as she laughed nervously. She looked at Joy, and saw her laughing with her. “Yeah, you're right. Don't worry, let me share your sorrow.” she said. Then, Calvin gave Joy a smirk, then began to tickle her at her sides. “Aiyo! Stop it!” she heard Joy said. She could only watch them. She was faking a smile all this time, as seeing them together only breaks her heart.
--
“Have you seen the way he looked at her...” Kit said to Danson. They were at the park near Kit's house, sitting on the bench. “Have you seen the way he smiled when she smiles at her? How his eyes sparkles as he looks at her?” she asked again. Danson just nodded his head. He could feel her heartache, and as much as he wanted to take that away, there's nothing he could do right now but listen to her. “I could see that Joy has started to fall in love with him... and it's scaring me, you know. It's scaring me because... because I felt like losing me... like anytime soon, Joy's going to take my place. She already know every little things about him. Even those things that only I know about him...” she said. “But there are other things that Joy doesn't know about him, that only you could understand...” Danson said. Kit let out a bitter smile and shook her head. “I doubt it, Danson. I've never seen Calvin so in love like this, that he even showed to her the side of him that only I have seen...” she said. “You don't have to be scared of anything, Kit. Be happy for Calvin because he's slowly getting the love of the girl of his dreams. Most of all, we know Joy. If she became his girlfriend, we know that she wouldn't hurt her...” Danson said. Kit just nodded her head. “I know... but there's something that I'm scared of...” she said. Then, she looked at him. “I'm starting to get scared of myself, Danson. Each day that I am with him, I keep on falling in love with him. How can you stay friends with someone if every time you look at them, it makes you want them even more?” she said. Danson closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “I... I know how it feels like...” he said in a low voice. Then, he slowly opened his eyes, and looked at her. “And I also know what it's like to be hurt when you see the one you love suffer with her heartache.... It hurts me as much as it hurts you. I can't bear seeing you being hurt because of him...” he said.
She could understand what he was trying to say. Somehow, she felt guilty because she's all about the pain she is feeling right now, that she even bothered with his feelings. Kit looked away from him. “I'm sorry, Danson.... I'm sorry if I'm being selfish...” she said. “Maybe it's about time that you let go of what you feel for me. You don't have to feel hurt for me, to feel my pain. I didn't ask you to...” she said. Danson just smiled as he cupped her cheek in her palm. “But I want to... because I love you....” he said. She looked into his eyes, and then she felt the tears rolling down her cheek. “Danson... you have to understand that I could only love Calvin. Maybe, one day, if I wake up from this madness... maybe then I could give you that chance...” she said. Danson just nodded his head. “I will wait for that day, but for now, let me share your pain. The last thing I wan is to see you sad. If I can't take away all the hurt you're feeling, then let me be with you while you're in pain.” he said. He put his arm around her, and then let her head rest, as the tears began to fall from her eyes.
--
Jiro paused as he watched Joy walked by the hall. She was not alone, as Calvin is with her. He could only look at her from afar. He saw her smile and laugh at something that Calvin told her. “Guess it's finally over...” he thought. He let out a faint smile as he shook his head. He could see that Joy is happy now, more happier that the time that they were together. As much as he wanted her and misses her, he just couldn't bring himself to ask her back in his life. He's not over Tin, he's doing his best to forget her and he knows that he's succeeding, but even if he have already forgotten his love for Tin, he knows that it's no use as he have already lost Joy. The worst part is, he lost Joy to one of his closest friends.
“Watching her just won't make her love you again.” he heard someone say. He looked back and saw Chun walking towards her. Jiro just smiled at his friend. “I'm not asking for her to love me again. I just wish for her happiness... and I can see that she have found it with someone else.” he said. Chun sighed, and then folded his arms as he looked sternly at him. “Well, your eyes tell otherwise. I can see that you still love her and want her back, but something's holding you back. Is it because of Tin?” he asked. Jiro shook his head. “Honestly, I have slowly let go of Tin. Which is good... what I have to do know to is to learn to let go of Joy now.” he said. Chun smiled and nodded his head. “So, Tin is finally out of the picture, huh?” he asked. Jiro nodded his head. “'I'm getting there... I have realized that Tin will only be but a happy memory of my past.” “And Joy?” “She will always the girl I will love. Maybe one day I will soon forget about her, but I doubt if it would take me that soon.”
Chun gave him a smile as he put his arm around his shoulder. “If you really love Joy, you will fight for what you feel. You'll prove it to her, even if it means that you have to fight with Calvin for her love. If you just give up easily on her, then it only means that you don't love her enough to want her back.” he said. Jiro let out a sigh after hearing what his friend said. “It's different now, Chun...” he said. “But you don't know what it feels... It feels horrible to see your lost love walk past you with another guy, and it's the worst feeling when you know that you made a mistake in letting her go.”
--
Joy was waiting for Calvin after their soccer practice. She was sitting at the bleacher, reading a book, when Calvin came. “Joy!” he called as he ran towards her. Joy looked at him and smiled. “Hey, Calvin!” she said. Calvin smiled at her as he sat beside her. “I have a surprise for you...” he said. Then, he showed her his two closed fists. “But first, you have to guess where it is.” he said. Joy gave him a pout. “Why don't you just give it to me?” she asked. “Because it would be more exciting if you guess where my surprise is.” he said. Joy laughed at him for being a little childish. She was left with no choice but to do what he told her to do. “OK... my guess it... its in the right hand.” she said. Calvin gave her a smirk. “Are you sure?” he asked. She just nodded her head. Then, he slowly opened his right hand, and Joy found it empty. “Fine... it's in the left hand.” Joy said. Calvin gave her another smirk, and when he opened his left hand, Joy found it empty as well. She folded her arms as she glared at him. “Wei... Calvin Chen, are you fooling me?” she asked. Calvin just laughed as he saw her angry expression. Then, he reached for her ear, and then when he pulled back his hand, he was already holding a long stemmed red rose. “This...” he said as he handed it to her. “Is my surprise for you...” he said. Joy couldn't help but smile at what he did. She felt her cheeks turn pink as she took the rose from Calvin. “Thank you.” she said shyly. She buried her nose on the rose, then glanced at him. “I'm glad you liked it...” he said.
Just then, Kit came. The two looked at her smiled. “Hey, Kit!” Calvin called. Kit smiled at him, then as she looked at Joy, she saw her holding a rose. She guessed that it came from Calvin. Feeling jealous, the smile on her face abruptly disappeared. Suddenly she became mad at the two. “Have you seen Danson?” she asked the two in a formal tone. “He's still inside the locker room...” Calvin said. He already noticed the change in her expression, and was confused at her. Kit sighed, as she folded her arms. “Tell him I have no patience in waiting for him. I'll see him in the parking lot.” she said. Then, she turned her back on them and left. “What's wrong with her?” Joy asked Calvin as soon as she was gone. Calvin just shrugged his shoulder. “I don't know... maybe she's not in the mood.” he said. “She's not mad at me, isn't she?” she asked. Calvin gave her a confused look. “Why would she be mad at you?” “Because I'm taking too much of your time?” “She understands. And besides, why would she be mad at me for hanging around you when she's always with Danson...” “Maybe she thinks that I'm taking you away from him. After all, you two have stuck together like Siamese twins.”
Calvin just laughed at what she said. He put his arm around her, and then smiled. “I assure you, Kit doesn't think that way. Besides, she really understands that we have gotten closer. Dont worry, I'll talk to her.” he said. Joy smiled and nodded her head. “I'll talk to her as well. I'll explain to her that you're already courting me that's why you keep on hanging out with me.” she said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head.
--
“You should control your emotion if you wouldn't want him to find out...” Danson said as they were walked outside Kit's house. “I'm trying my best, but I couldn't help but be jealous of her... The more that I see them together, the more that it hits me that I've finally lose him to Joy...” Kit said in a low voice. Kit paused walking, and then turned to face Danson. “I am selfish, right? I am selfish, that I didn't even want to share Calvin with anyone else?” she asked. Danson sighed as he nodded his head. “Anyone who has been in love becomes selfish... I know because many times, I've been jealous of Calvin... I wanted to be close to you the way that he is... I wanted it too bad that I thought of wanting to take his place...” he said. Danson smiled at her, and then put his arm around her. “It's OK to be selfish, but you have to realize where you stand in his life. You do have the right to be jealous of joy, but not too much... because you're just his friend. His best friend.” he reminded her. Kit just gave him a faint smile and nodded. “Thank you for reminding me...” she said in a low voice. He smiled at her, and then gave her a hug. “It's all going to be OK... trust me.” he whispered to her. “I... I just wish...” she said as she looked up at him. “If there's one thing that I would want to happen right, I want all of these feelings to go away, so that I won't be hurting anymore...” she said in a low voice.
“Ehem...” they heard someone say. They looked back, and saw Calvin walking towards them. Danson released Kit from his embrace, and Kit looked at Calvin. “What are you doing here?” she asked. “Can I talk to my best friend?” he asked. Kit looked up at Danson, and he nodded his head. “I'll see how Corine and Annie's doing inside.” he said, pertaining to Kit's little sister and her best friend. Calvin and Kit watched him as he went back inside the house. “So...” Calvin began. “I see Danson's getting close with Annie, huh?” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Annie's fond of him. I think her friend, Corine have a crush on Danson.” she said. “How about Kit jie jie? Does she also have a crush on Danson?” he teased. Kit only gave him a sigh, not wanting to answer Calvin's question. He could see that Kit does not like his question. “Aiyo... I'm just teasing...” Calvin said defensively. Kit folded her arms as she glared at him. “I don't like the way that you question me.” she said in a firm tone. Calvin became confused with the way she is acting. It seems to him that his best friend is mad at him.
“Kit, is there something wrong? Did I do anything wrong this time?” he asked in a worried tone. Kit let out a bitter smile as she shook her head. “You don't do anything wrong, Calvin. You're too perfect, remember?” she snapped at him. “Then why does it seem that you are mad? If there's something that I have done that you didn't like, then tell me, instead of throwing tantrums.” he said. He was trying to control his temper towards her, and Kit could feel that he's getting frustrated at her. “Go... be mad at me... because if there's one thing that you did that I hated, it's when you made me fall in love with you” she thought. Calvin sighed, and began to soften up. “Kit, please don't be like this. You know very well that I really don't like it when you're mad at me.” he said. Kit folded her arms as she sighed. “You... you just caught me in a very bad mood, Cal. I think we should talk some other time...” she said in a more calm tone. Then, she turned his back at him, and headed inside the house. But before she could make another step, Calvin stopped him by holding her hand. “Kit... I think it's better if we talk about this today.” he said to her. Kit looked back at him, and saw his pleading expression. “I noticed that since I told you that I'll be courting Joy, you've been like this. You've been avoiding me, and you seem to be always mad at me. I want to know why...” he said. Kit shook her head again. “I'm just in a bad mood...” she lied. The truth is, she have been trying to avoid him as much as she could, so that he won't notice that she's jealous of Joy. Calvin shook his head after hearing her answer. “You think you could lie to me? I know you very well... You-” “Yes, I know. I'm your best friend, and you know me from head to toe. Cal... maybe you don't know me at all.”
Calvin is getting frustrated at her. All he wanted was to have a small talk with her, but he felt like she's pushing him away. “Kit... I don't know what's going on, but I just hope you'll come around...” he said. Then he turned to leave. Kit watched him as he walks away, and she could feel her heart breaking with every step he takes. “The problem with you...” she shouted at him. “When you found someone to love, you tend to forget everything. You tend to forget me! You know why I'm mad? Because I'm so scared of losing you.” Calvin paused, and then smiled to himself. “So that's why...” he thought. Then he turned to face her again. “What did I told you before?” he asked as he walked towards her. Kit put her hands on her pocket, then turned her gaze away from him. “T-that... that I don't have to worry about losing you. T-that you would never ever leave m-me... and that... t-that nothing c-could separate us...” she said. She looked at him again, and saw him standing in front of her, smiling. “You forgot one thing... that you will always come first because you're my best friend.” he said. “I... I don't think that would happen. Especially if Joy is already your girlfriend.” she said. Calvin sighed again, and then folded his arms. “I only made a mistake of leaving you once, and it seems that you could not forget it....” he said, pertaining to the incident that happened between them and Trixie. Calvin smiled at him, and then pulled her towards him, and hugged her tight. “Kit Jin, you are my only best friend in this whole world. Nothing could ever replace you, remember that.” he said to her. Suddenly, she felt tears forming at the corner of her eyes after hearing the words best friend. “Should I be happy because I am your best friend, or should I cry because that's all we'll ever be?” she thought. Before the tear could fall from her eyes, she pushed Calvin away from her. “I... I should go. Annie might need me inside.” she said. Not waiting for him to say anything, Kit, immediately rushed inside the house, and closed the door. She rested behind the door as she let the tears fall from her eyes. “I've lost you Calvin... I know I have lost you...” she thought. “And I've lost you to Joy...”

Chapter 36 – Her Heartache
Note: Some parts of this chapter will be written in Kit's POV.
--
I walked through the empty hallway, 10 minutes before the bell rings. I stopped by his locker, like I usually do everyday. I stared into the blue paper crane in my hand, and then hang it on the locker's handle. I took the small not from my bag, and then inserted it inside the locker. Today is another day of me, telling him how much I love him. This is the only way I know that I could tell him how I feel for him. Loving him is forbidden, because I know that when he found out about this secret, it will ruin our friendship.
Sometimes I wonder, until when will I do this thing? Until when will I be in the shadow? Until when will I hide from a corner just to watch him lovingly? Each day that I'm with him, I just fall deeper and deeper. Loving him is the most painful thing that I have ever experienced in my entire life.. and if only someone could grant me one wish... I would wish for all this love to fade away.
--
The school bell rang, and as usual, Calvin rushed to his locker. And just like any other day, he found a paper crane on his locker. He immediately took it, and put it inside his bag. He opened his locker, and hurriedly took the books inside, not noticing that the small note fell on the ground. “Cal!” he head someone call. He looked back, and saw Danson walking towards him. Calvin smiled at him. “Hey...” he said. “By the way, have you finished the plates that we're suppose to pass next week?” he asked. Calvin shook his head as he took another book from his locker. “Will do it later.” he said. Danson found him weird. It's so unlikely of Calvin to not finish their project earlier than expected. “I'm sorry, but I assumed you already finished it. Anything wrong?” he asked. Calvin just smiled at him. “Let's just say I'm busy with other things... with a girl actually... and let's name this girl Joy Lin.” he said. Then he closed his locker.
As Danson looked down to the ground, he noticed a small yellow paper. He knelt down, and then took it. “Your smile is the reason why I fell in love with you...” he read silently. He know that the note came from Kit, the paper crane girl, and he was surprised that Calvin didn't even noticed that the note fell on the ground. He knows that he has been collecting the paper crane and the note that goes with it. “Hey Cal..” he said as he stood up. “You dropped this...” he said, handing him the note. Calvin just stared on the paper and shook his head. “I did it on purpose. I really don't like receiving notes from that girl anymore... whoever she is.” he said. Danson gave him a confused look. “So, you don't like this paper crane girl anymore?” he asked. Calvin nodded his head. “At first, I like the mystery and all, but as days passes by, I'm getting annoyed by it.” “But I thought you said you think this girl is your soul mate because it seems like she knows how you feel?” “Not anymore. Besides, there's Joy. I think she's the one for me.” “So.. you don't want to find her anymore?” “Not anymore.”
Danson watched Calvin as he turned his back to leave. He sighed, worrying about Kit. If she find out about this, he knows she will be heart broken. “Hey, Dan... are you coming? We're gonna be late.” he heard Calvin said. Danson nodded his head, and then followed Calvin to their class.
--
Kit was tapping the pencil she was holding on the table, as she tried to memorize everything on her notes. She have an upcoming test that afternoon, but she could not concentrate in studying. Nothing is coming inside her mind. She looked around, and she saw that everyone is talking in a loud voice. “Library is supposed to be a quiet place, right?” she thought. She reached for her bag, and then took our her mp3 player. She put the earphones on, and then she began to play her favorite song. She took her notes again, and began to read it, hoping she would be able to understand what's written on it.
“Kit...” she heard someone call despite that her mp3 has been turned to the loudest volume. She looked up, and saw Joy standing beside her. She was smiling at her, and Kit smiled back at her. “Hey...” she said weakly. Joy sat beside her. “Are you OK, Kit?” she asked. Kit just nodded her head as she looked away from her. Joy sighed as she watched her. For these past few?” Joy asked. Kit looked up at her again, giving her a confused look. “Why should I be mad at you?” she asked. “I... I don't know. You've been avoiding me lately... especially when you see me with Calvin. I was already thinking that you don't want to see me with Cal...” Joy said. Kit smiled and shook her head. “It's not that. Maybe I'm just too busy lately.” Kit said monotonously. “But you're not mad at me for always hanging out with Cal?” “I don't have the reason to be mad. Besides, I know that he's already courting you. Just think of it as I'm giving you guys all the time in the world.” “But it's really unusual of you... I mean, we always hang out all the time... but since that day -” “I said I'm not mad, so stop it.” Kit snapped at her. Joy was surprised at the way that she reacted, and Kit was surprised as well at what she said. “I.... I'm sorry, Joy. It's just that I have this big test coming up, and I can't concentrate. I didn't mean to snap at you like that...” she said in a more calm tone. Joy just smiled and nodded her head. “I'm sorry too, Kit. Maybe it's really a bad time to talk to you... I'll just catch you some other time...” she said. Then, she held her hand. “It's just that there's a lot of things I want to tell you... that I could only tell you because you're a girl and you are Calvin's best friend... and most of all, because you are my closest friend.” she said.
Kit leaned to her chair, and then gave her a faint smile. “W-what is it that you want to talk about?” she asked. “Calvin...” Joy said. Kit looked at her. “W-what about him?” she asked. “Kit... Hannah asked you before at the beach house if there was a time when you have seen Calvin in a different light... as more than a friend. But instead of answering that, you chose do our dare. Kit... I want to know your answer. Was there a time that you have been in love with Calvin?” Joy asked. Kit was caught off-guard by her question. She doesn't know if Joy will understand if she tells her the truth, but she knows that her feelings right now is complicated, as complicated as her situation being in love with her best friend. “No.” she lied. “I could never fall in love with him. Besides, I know him too well. I know all the good and bad things about him, and knowing that, I don't think I could like someone like him.” she explained. As she looked at Joy, she saw her smiling at him. “I knew it. I know you're not in love with him...” she said. “W-why do you ask?” Kit asked. “I just want to make sure that you are not. It's just that...” Joy paused, and Kit could see that she is blushing. “I'll tell you but promise me you won't tell Calvin yet, OK?” Joy said. Kit slowly nodded her head. “It's just that... you see... I've always liked Calvin. And, before, I thought that he would court me, but he didn't. So, I was thinking maybe the reason why he didn't court me is because he likes you.” “ “C-calvin is really s-shy when it comes to you. But b-believe me. H-he likes you. Really really likes you...” “I could feel that, Kit. As I get more closer to him, I'm starting to like him even more. When Jiro and I broke up, he was always there, cheering me up. It was because of him that I was able to move on. And...”
Joy looked up at her and smiled, but kit could only give her a confused look. “And?” Kit asked. She could feel her heart beating faster. She knows Joy will tell her something that she doesn't want to hear, something that she knows would only break her heart. “Calvin is really a nice guy, Kit. Any girl would be lucky to be his girl. I feel lucky because he likes me... so I decided to give Calvin a chance...” she finally said. Kit felt like someone hit a bomb at her upon hearing what Joy said. It's like she couldn't even breath, but she couldn't let Joy see that she is hurting because of what she said. “A-are you sure?” she asked. Joy nodded her head. “You and Jiro just broke up... and don't you think everyone will say that Calvin is just your rebound guy? I... I don't want to him to be hurt if you'll only give him a chance so that you could forget Jiro.” Kit said. Joy smiled and shook her head. “I'm really sure about this, Kit. I'm in love with Calvin. And you don't have to worry about a thing...” she said. She took Kit's hand, and then squeezed it. “I will take good care of Calvin.”
--
Maybe you're asking me how I felt when Joy told me that she is in love with my best friend. It felt like my heart was broken into a million pieces. I could hear it breaking. I could hear my silent cries. It seemed like my world halted in an instant, and that my body finally crashed onto the ground after falling from a deep abyss. I can't breath, and I wanted to cry out loud... but there's no reason to cry at all. He was never mine to start with. I am just his best friend, a best friend who fell in love with him.
There's no one to blame but myself... Because, if I didn't chose to fall in love with him... I would never this pain that I'm feeling right now...
--
The hallway was empty, and Jiro was walking. At the other side, he saw Joy walking towards the opposite direction. Joy paused, and then he looked up at her. He saw her turn her gaze away from her. “Joy...” he called. But Joy didn't speak. He sighed as he came to approach her. “How... how are you?” he asked. This time, Joy looked up at him and gave him a faint smile. “I... I'm OK.” she said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. “I... I can see that...” he said. Joy turned away from him. Whenever she sees Jiro, she still feel hurt. Whenever she looks at him, there's a part of her that wants her back, but it would not be possible now. She knows that Jiro is still in love with Tin, There are times that she wants to take him back, if only he would ask her to. But two months have passed since that night when Jiro asked for space, so that he could forget about Tin. As much as she want to held on to his promise that he will come back for her as soon as he have forgotten the past, she could not wait for him anymore. She just have to accept the fact that his heart will always be for Tin.
“I... I have to go...” Joy said in a low voice. She looked down as she walked past him. But as she made another step away from him, Jiro held her hand. “Are... are you happy with him?” he asked, his voice cracking. Joy paused again, unable to answer his question. “I know... I know I have no right anymore to ask you... and you now have your freedom to choose who to love. I... I just want to know if... if you are happy with Calvin...” he said. It's not unknown to him that since they broke up, it was Calvin that has been staying by her side. And he also know that Calvin is now courting her. “H-he makes me happy. He always cheers me up. He has always been there by my side all throughout. D-does that a-answer your question?” Joy asked. She looked up at him, and saw him smiling. “Yes, and that's all that I need to hear...” he said in a low voice. Then, he leaned over her, and hug her for the last time. “I... I hope he could give you the love that I wasn't able to give you. I... I hope he could always make you smile, and take good care of you.” he whispered to her. As he released her from his embrace, he looked at her, and gave her a warm smile. “I wish you all the happiness, Joy.” he said. Then he turned his back, and walked away from her.
Joy could only watch as Jiro leaves her again. She could feel the tears coming out of her eyes again. “Please don't go...” she wanted to say. But Jiro have already made a decision to finally let her go. As Jiro turned his back to leave, the tears started to roll from his cheeks. He have never felt this much pain before. “I'm sorry, Joy...” he said. He still loves her, that's for sure... but someone else deserves her more than him. And he have to accept the fact that everything have finally ended.
--
Do you know what is the sound of the heart breaking? Does it sound like a thousand nuclear bomb exploding through your brain? Does it sound like a million cars crashing into a freeway? Does it sound like a soft cry under the poruing rain? Or of a soft feather falling from the Zen monastery?
--
“Kit!” she heard someone call her. Kit slowed down from walking, and saw Calvin running up to her. She just sighed as she went on her way. “Kit! Wait up!” she heard Calvin again. She paused as she waited for Calvin to catch up on her. “What do you want?” she asked in an annoyed tone. “Hey, what's wrong with you. Cheer up, OK?” he said as he smiled at her. He pinched her nose, but Kit just put his hand away. “I'm not in the mood.” she said to him. She turned her back on him as she walked. Calvin followed her, and as soon as he was able to catch up on her again, he put his arm around her. “How can I be in the mood if I failed my test?” she said. “Then, make it up on the next test. As for now, can you cheer up for me?” he said. She looked at him, and then sighed. “I'm just getting worried. I don't want to fail that class.” she said. “Aiyo, of course you won't! I know you, Kit. You can do it.” Calvin said. Kit looked at him, and then smiled at him. “OK, thanks for cheering me up, Mr. Chen. Now, can you tell me exactly what you want?” she asked. Calvin put his arm around her as they walked. “Can you help me? As in really help me?” he asked. Kit just gave him a smirk. “As if I don't always help you...” she muttered. “Aiyo... promise this will be the last I'll ask of you... for now.” he said. He raised his right hand as a sign of his promise.
Kit sighed again as she nodded her head. “OK. Tell me, what do you want me to do?” she asked. “Help me plan a perfect date with Joy this Saturday.” he said. Kit paused and then looked at him again. “W-why do you want me to plan your date with Joy?” she asked. “Because I want it to be special. I want it to be memorable for her... something that when she sees what I have prepared, she will give her answer to me.” he said. “You mean to say, you want that night to be the night that she will finally say that she loves you?” Kit asked again. Calvin nodded his head. “So, will you help me?” he asked. Kit turned away from him. Guess there's nothing for her to do but help his best friend with Joy. She knows that Calvin and Joy would finally get together, and though she's hurting because of that fact, she have to accept it. “Y-yes... I'll help you...” she answered. Calvin was very happy with what she said. He was too happy that he pulled her and gave her a big hug. “Thanks, Kit! You're the best!” he said as he released her.

“So, what is your ideal date?” Kit asked Calvin as they settled at their favorite spot at the cafe. Calvin just shrugged his shoulder. “I really don't know. I want something unique this time. Jiro have already done the candlelight dinner thing, so I wanted something extraordinary.” he said. “Well... that's the only thing I could think of right now. Candlelight dinner with someone playing the violin... then there would be fireworks after.” she said as she leaned to her chair. Calvin sighed as he leaned to his chair. He doesn't have any idea how to make their date really special, and he could see that Kit is also running out of ideas. “Kit... what's your ideal date?” he asked. Kit looked up at him, and then let out a faint chuckle. “Why are you asking me?” she asked. “Maybe I could get an idea if you tell me.” he said.
Kit sighed before she began to speak. “My ideal date?” she asked. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. “Actually, I'm not really into candlelit dinners or anything. I don't want anything extraordinary. Maybe we could have a picnic under the stars, and then he will serenade me... not with my favorite song, but with the song that tells exactly what he feels.” she said. As Calvin is listening to her, he was scratching his chin. An idea suddenly hit his head. “Hmmm... you gave me an idea there, Kit...” he said Kit gave him a confused look. “Is it OK if I borrow your idea of a perfect date? I think it's really great and sweet.” he said. Kit was taken aback by what he said. It is her idea of a perfect date, and Calvin was the one she could think of to make her ideal date more perfect, but what can she do now if Calvin wants to user her idea to woo Joy? “D-don't you think it's corny?” she asked. Calvin shook her head. “Well, it maybe common, but the idea is really sweet. It may not be as grand as what Jiro did on their anniversary, but for me, what matters most is to make that night memorable.” he said. Kit forced a smile at him as she nodded her head. “I-if you think i-it's a good idea, t-then you can do t-that. I-if you want, I... I can help you prepare for that night.” she said. Calvin's eyes what widened upon hearing what she said. “Really? You'll do that for me?” he asked as he held her hand. Kit swallowed hard as she slowly nodded her head. “I... I promised to help you, right?” she said in a low voice. He squeezed her hand as he looked up at her and smiled. He'll forever thank his best friend for helping him out. “Kit, thank you. You don't know how much this means to me...”
--
Saturday came, and I helped Calvin to prepare for his special night. I was there to cook their food. I was there when I helped him find the right suit for that night. I was there to help him pick up the perfect flowers and the perfect gift for Joy. I could see how happy he is as we worked for their date, and as much as it's breaking my heart, I have to be happy for him. I have to be happy despite the fact that another girl will be in my dream date.
When I see Calvin talk to Joy on the phone, I see him smiling. I have never seen him smile like this before. But knowing that another girl makes him smile like this, makes me feel sad. I wish I would be the reason why he smiles like this. I wish I could be his date tonight. I wish... I wish I could be the girl he is loving right now...
If I could be someone, I'd be her so that you'd love me too, Calvin...
--
Kit looked around the park to check if everything is in place. “Food, check. Wine, check. Blanket, check. Roses, check...” she said. She looked at the picnic blanket, and then she realized that it looked too plain. She took two red roses and two white roses from the basket, and then took all it's petals and laid it down the blanket. “Kit... everything OK?” she heard Calvin said. She looked up at him, and saw him rushing up to her. “Aiyo... don't be nervous. Everything's in place already. All we have to do is wait for Chun and Joy, OK?” she said as she stood up. Calvin looked down, and saw that Kit is right. Everything is perfect already. Then, he turned to her and smiled. “Kit, thank you for this.” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. “Of course. What are best friends for, but you still owe me one.” she said. Calvin nodded his head. “So, while you are waiting for your date tonight, I think I should go and hide somewhere.” she said. As she took a step, Calvin stopped her. “Wait, can't you stay?” he asked. Kit just laughed at him and shook her head. “If I stay here, it will ruin everything. Besides, Chun and I will be hiding at that corner.” she said, pointing at the other side. “Wei, can't you be a little nearer?” he asked. Kit shook her head. “You'll be fine, Cal. Don't worry about a thing.” she said as she taped his shoulder. “But... I'm really really nervous, Kit. Can you stay for a while, please?” he asked. Kit sighed and nodded her head.
She took Calvin's right hand, and then began to massage it. As she looked up at at him, she could see that he is more relaxed now. “You have to tell Joy about this... that if you are nervous, she should just massage your right hand.” she said. Calvin smiled and shook his head. “This...” he said. “will be something that only the two of us knows. You're the only one who knows how to calm me down when I am nervous, so let's leave it that way.” he said. Kit was touched by what he said. “Will you promise me...” she heard Calvin say. Kit looked up at him, wondering what it is that she should promise to him. “Will you promise me that if Danson will become your boyfriend, you will leave out something that only the two of us would know?” “Like what?” “I don't know. Maybe you can't let him know how you much you like it when I pinch your nose, or how much you wanted to be hugged when you're scared of thunder...” Kit let out a faint smile and nodded her head. “I promise.” she said. Suddenly, she felt her phone vibrate. She took it from her pocket, and then saw Chun's name flashing on the screen. “That's my cue.” she said as she looked up at him. “Good luck. I'll just be hiding somewhere, watching you if Joy rejects your love or not.” she said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. She have taken a few steps away from him, when she paused. She looked back at him, and then ran after him. As soon as she is near him, she hugged him tight. This might be the last time that she could hug Calvin like this, so better take this last chance. As she let him go, she smiled at him and then ran to the far side of the park.
--
As Joy walked through the park, she saw rose petals on the ground. She smiled as she looked at it, and then followed it's trail. As the petal trail ended, she looked up and saw Calvin standing before her, holding a guitar. He smiled at her, then he began to play the guitar, and sing a song.
I never had anything happen so fast Took one look and I shatter like glass I guess I let it show 'cause your smile told me you knew That you're everything I ever wanted at once There's no holding this heart when it knows what it wants And I never wanted anything more than to love you
I was swept away Nothing in this world but you and I Gotta find a way to make you feel the way that I do I was swept away Without a warning Like night when the morning begins the day I was swept away
Joy could only smile as Calvin sings her a song. As soon as his song ended, she clapped her hands and walked towards him. “I love that song...” she said to him. Calvin smiled at her. “I'm glad that you like my song. I haven't got any practice at all...” he said, scratching his head. Joy just laughed at him. “It's OK, I like it anyway.” she said. “I just hope it's not just the song that you like...” Calvin said. Joy looked around the place, and realized how Calvin put so much effort to make their date perfect, and she was touched by this. “I like everything that you have prepared for tonight, Calvin...” she said as she turned to him. “Everything seems perfect...” she said in a low voice. Calvin walked towards her, and then held her arm. “You are perfect...” he whispered to her. Joy looked up at him, and he could feel her cheek turn rosy pink at what he said. “Joy Lin... I love you. I love you with all my heart. Will you give me a chance to prove it to you?” he finally asked. Joy looked into his eyes and smiled. Then, she nodded her head. “You don't have to prove anything because I love you too, Calvin Chen.” she said.
Calvin could not believe what he have heard. If he is dreaming, then he wouldn't what to wake up from this dream. He just heard the girl he loves tell him that she loves him too, and this made him the happiest and luckiest man in the world. “Y-y-you do?” he asked in a shocked tone. Joy nodded her head. “I do...” she said. “I'm not dreaming, am I?” he asked again. Joy shook her head. “So you really love me? You are my girlfriend now?” he asked again. Joy nodded her head. “Yes, I am your girlfriend now.” she said. Then, Calvin held her hand, and then hugged her tight. He never thought she could feel this warm, and that everything feels so right. Then, he looked at her, and then he leaned over her and gave her a long kiss on the lips.
--
At the other side of the park, Chun and Kit were watching the them. As Chun looked at Kit, he could see the tears running down her cheeks. He sighed, wishing there is something he could do for his friend. He could feel how hurt Kit is tonight, now that Calvin and Joy are finally together. “Kit... are you OK?” he asked. Kit looked up at him and tried to smile. “I'm going to be OK...” she said to him. Then, she turned her eyes to Calvin and Joy again. “I wish I was her... I wish I could be her...I wish I am Joy so that he would love me too...” she whispered. Chun put her arms around her, and consoled her. “But you have to accept this fact now. Calvin is already with Joy... and all you can do now is move on. Maybe it's about time that you give other people a chance to love you...” he said to her. Kit just nodded her head. “Maybe one day, I will soon forget all about this. I just hope it would be soon.” she said to him. Kit sighed and smiled at Chun. “I need to get out of here first...” she said. Chun just nodded his head. “I understand. Don't worry, I'll cover for you.” he said. Then she turned to walk away.
--
I have always wondered what is the sound of a heart breaking, then I realized that no one can hear it except you...
--
Taking a walk alone On the road underneath the streetlight The hands that I failed to hold tightly
Kit walked through the empty street. Through her skin, she could feel the coldness of the night. As she walked home, the lonely song played in her earphones.
Don't know how to describe After being rejected by you Makes me unsure of where to hide I can't think of any excuses to make you stay...
She should have readied herself for another heartache, but she never thought this could hurt this much. She have finally lost the battle, and the only thing left to do is give up what was never hers from the start. He have to let Calvin be happy, even if that happiness means that she's not part of it. She knows how Calvin loved Joy, and she could tell that Joy loves him as well. She knows Joy wouldn't do anything to hurt him. Maybe it's about time for her to let go of her feelings for her best friend.
Telling me face to face You don't love me anymore The unfulfilled promises Let me forget everything And start afresh alone How can you be calm And not wait for me to turn back
The lonely song played on his car as he drove along the deserted street. Jiro sighed as he turned into the corner. His thoughts was filled with Joy again, and the fact that one day, she will become Calvin's girl. Maybe he deserves the pain that he is feeling right now, after all, he caused Joy too much heartache before. He wished that Calvin would take good care of Joy, and would not hurt her the way that he did. He looked at the pink shell necklace and then carefully touched it. “Tin... I'm sorry... I just realized that I love Joy more than anything else in this world...” she thought.
As he looked at the street, he saw someone walking towards his direction. Before he could hit the girl, he blew the horns at her. He immediately stepped on the breaks, so that he would not hit the girl. Meanwhile, Kit was in her deep thoughts that she did not notice the car approaching her. As she stopped, she felt relieved that the car stopped before it hit her. Jiro came out of the car, and surprised to see that it was Kit that he almost hit. “Kit... are you OK?” he asked. Kit nodded her head, although she was still in shock. “I'm OK... no harm done...” she said. “It's already late, what are you doing outside?” he asked. “I... I just helped a friend...” she answered. She looked up at him, and saw how worried he was. She did not even have the guts to tell Jiro that Calvin and Joy are together now, and she felt guilty for keeping it. She knows that Jiro will find out about it sooner or later. “Come on, I'll drive you home.” Jiro said. Kit nodded her head, and followed Jiro to his car. As he stepped inside, she noticed the pink shell necklace hanging by the mirror. “Jiro...” she said. “it seems that this necklace looks really familiar...” she said to her. Jiro looked at him and smiled. “A childhood friend gave it to me years ago, as a promise that we'll meet again at the beach...” he said. Kit stared at the necklace for a long time, and then it hit her. The necklace that Jiro have now... it was her necklace.
--
Sometimes, fate has a cruel way of putting things together. That night, I've lot the man I love to my closest friend. I experienced the most painful thing in life. And then, on that very same night, someone from my past came back - the man whom I was in love with when I was nine years old. Fate played a trick on me, as this man turned out to be Jiro – the guy who have loved my friend. I don't why God is doing this to me. All I know is that things are turning to be more complicated... and maybe this is just the start...

Chapter 37 – Tree, Leaf and Wind
A/N: Some parts of this chapter will be on Chun's POV. By now, you may have noticed Chun's role in this story. He is the “buffer” among the characters, the one who observes them and gives them advices, the one who knows everyone's secret, so that's why he have an important role in this fan fic
--
Have you heard of the story of the tree, the leaf and the wind? I have heard it several time. The tree, who have taken for granted the leaf. The leaf, who was tired of holding on the tree, and the soft wind took the leaf away from the tree. I have six friends. Theirs was a really complicated story. Thank God I am not involved in their story, but you see, when I see one of them being hurt, I could also feel their pain.
Calvin, Kit, Danson, Hannah, Joy and Jiro... I definitely know who the tree and the leaf is in the story... as for the wind...
--
Calvin is the tree. Definitely.
--
As they sat on the blanket, Calvin had his arm around Joy. Both of them were gazing up the starry sky. “Do you think there will be a shooting star tonight?” he heard his girlfriend say. Calvin looked at her, confused at what she said. “Why would you like to see a shooting star?” he asked. Joy just smiled at him. “I want to wish something...” she said. “And what is it” he asked. Joy simply smiled at her. “It's a secret...” she said. Calvin smiled at her, and the pulled her closer to him, and planted a kiss on her forehead. Then, he looked up at the sky again. “Before you, Joy, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars—points of light and reason… And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything.” he said. After hearing what he said. Joy looked up at Calvin, wrinkling her eyebrows. “I've read that in a book! Can't you be more original?” she said to him. Calvin laughed as he looked at her, then he looked up at the night sky again. “Every night I go to bed dreaming of the moment I get to see you again; the moment when months without you are erased by a single kiss, the moment when all my tears are dried by a single smile, the moment when hearing the sound of your voice means seeing you at the same time. Knowing that the moment I dream of will eventually become a reality is what keeps me going...” Then, he looked at Joy and lovingly smiled at her. “I love you with all of my heart, body, and soul. You complete me. You make my life worth living. To have known you and to have loved you has been the most beautiful dream. I can only hope that I never wake up.” he whispered to her ears.
Joy looked up at him and smiled warmly at him. 'That's the sweetest thing anyone could ever tell me...” she said. Then, Calvin leaned to her, and planted another kiss on her forehead. “I love you so much Joy... I don't think I could ever live without you beside me...” he said. “I love you too, Calvin...” Joy said. Then she sat up and then faced Calvin. “And because of what you said, I'm going to tell you why I want to see a shooting star...” she said. Then, she leaned over her and whispered her wish to her ear. “I want to wish that our love will las forever...” she whispered. Calvin smiled at her again. “I would love to spend the rest of my life with you, Joy...” he said. And then gave her a long kiss on the lips. And as their kissed, a shooting star brightened up the night sky.
--
I cannot blame Calvin for hurting Kit, for he have not known how his best friend feel for him. But there are times that he would take her for granted. I feel sorry for Kit for the times that Calvin leaves her hanging in the air. Maybe it's about time that he analyze himself thoroughly, because who knows, maybe one day, the leaf will decide to depart from the tree
--
Danson is the leaf, hanging on the tree, which is Kit.

I guess... rockerdt0902 says: i've already told you that jiro and joy already broke up... calvin's courting joy... lullabyangel says: and kit? rockerdt0902 says: she's trying to be ok rockerdt0902 says: but I know she is heartbroken because of it rockerdt0902 says: i'm trying my best to cheer her up rockerdt0902 says: but it seems that whatever I do to make her smile, she just couldn't... lullabyangel says: and you're not happy because she is not happy? rockerdt0902 says: right... lullabyangel says: just do your best lullabyangel says: she'll come around... lullabyangel says: I understand her... lullabyangel says: she loves calvin too much... lullabyangel says: and knowing that he is in love with one of her closest friends would really hurt... lullabyangel says: please take care of kit for me... rockerdt0902 says: I sure will rockerdt0902 says: but somehow, I wish she would realize that I am just here rockerdt0902 says: I wish she could see me the way that she sees him rockerdt0902 says: she only have her eyes on him, that she doesn't realize that i'm already hurting because she ignores me...
For a long time, Danson waited for Hannah to reply to his message.
lullabyangel says: you really love her too much... lullabyangel says: but if kit could not love you back, lullabyangel says: maybe it's time for you to let go... rockerdt0902 says: I want to... rockerdt0902 says: my minds tells me to let go... rockerdt0902 says: but my heart tells me otherwise rockerdt0902 says: a part of me is still hoping that she will turn around and see me... rockerdt0902 says: that she will learn to love me the way that she loved calvin... rockerdt0902 says: but seeing her now, rockerdt0902 says: I know that she love him more now than before...
Hannah sighed as she read Danson's message. She doesn't know what to say to him to make him feel all right. She could feel the pain he is feeling right now, but there's nothing she could do to console him. If only she's in Taiwan right now, she would be giving him a hug.
lullabyangel says: dannie... lullabyangel says: I really don't know what to do to make you feel all right...
Danson's lips formed into a smile as he read her message.
rockerdt0902 says: can you find me a hot austrian girlfriend?
Upon reading his message, Hannah suddenly became jealous.
lullabyangel says: wei? Why should I find you a hot austrian girlfriend? rockerdt0902 says: and I thought you promised me rockerdt0902 says: that if kit rejects me rockerdt0902 says: you'll find me a girlfriend there?
Hannah raised her eyebrow as she read his last message. “Stupid Danson... what am I, a match maker?” she thought.
lullabyangel says: well, I haven't found any hot austrian girl for you lullabyangel says: and even there is lullabyangel says: they are like trixie rockerdt0902 says: are you jealous? lullabyangel says: why should I be jealous? rockerdt0902 says: because you have a crush on me... ;-)
Danson began to type on the chat box again.
rockerdt0902 says: don't worry, I have a crush on you too...
After he pressed on the send button, he realized what he have typed. “nuts, what did I say to her?” he thought. He was typing in an apology when Hannah's sent another message.
lullabyangel says: maybe I do like you
Danson paused, and then he turned into a smile again. He doesn't know why, but after reading what Hannah said, he suddenly felt giddy like a school boy.
rockerdt0902 says: you like me? rockerdt0902 says: as in like me... as in more than a friend?
Hannah was surprised at his question. “Wait, what did I tell him?” she thought. She scrolled up and then saw the last message she sent to him.
lullabyangel says: I mean I like you as a friend. lullabyangel says: I still like calvin, ok? lullabyangel says: and you started it!!!! :@
He suddenly felt sad at what she said, and he doesn't know why.
rockerdt0902 says: if you don't like me, I guess I now know why kit can't even give me a chance... lullabyangel says: don't be sad, dannie... lullabyangel says: one day, kit will learn to love you... lullabyangel says: just give it your bet shot lullabyangel says: remember that I will always be here for you...
Danson smiled as he read her message, and then began to type again.
rockerdt0902 says: will you be there to catch me when I fall for you?
But before he hesitated to send that message. In the end, he pressed on the backspace button and just sent a smiley face.
--
I'm thinking Hannah is the soft wind that's trying to blow the leaf away from the tree. Danson may not have known it, but slowly, with her gentle gust, the leaf is slowly letting go of himself to the tree. And just like the leaf, Danson will have to realize that he is falling... no... he have already fallen for the wind... no matter how gentle her blow is, Danson have already fallen in love with Hannah...
--
Jiro... he is both the tree and the leaf.
--
As he walked the wall, Jiro's eyes caught the sight of Calvin and Joy walking together. He stopped as he watched them. He saw Joy smiling at Calvin as he put his arm around her. Then, he gently kissed her on the cheek. He sighed as he feel his heart breaking once again, but he have to get used to this pain. “It's about time that you know...” he heard someone say. He looked to his side and saw Kit standing beside him, also watching the two. “They got together. Calvin is not Joy's boyfriend...” she said. “S-since when?” he asked. Kit looked at him. “Last Saturday... that night that we bumped into each other...” she replied. Jiro sighed, and then he turned to her and smile. “I can see that Calvin makes her happy, and I'm glad that she ended up with him. Joy deserves someone like Cal...” he said. Then, he turned his back to leave, and as he made a step, Kit began to speak up to him. “You still have a chance with her, you know.” he heard her say. “It's obvious that you love Joy. Why did you let her go?” she asked again. Jiro paused, and then faced her again. “Even if I tell you, you wouldn't understand...” he said. “You're wrong...” Kit said. Slowly, she walked towards him. “I am your friend, Jiro. Why would you think that I wouldn't understand?” she said.
Jiro looked away from her. “All this time, we tried to reach out for you. We tried to get your side, Jiro... but since you broke up with Joy, I felt that you cut us out of your life. We know you are suffering too, just like the way Joy did before, and I know that you are still suffering. She was able to move on, and you still haven't. The difference between the two of you is that she chose to tell everything to us, while you... you chose to keep it to yourself.” Kit said. Jiro put his hand on his pocket, and then looked down at the ground. “It's better this way... it's better that you all think that everything is my fault...” he said in a low voice. Then, he looked up at Kit. “Because everything is my fault. I am the reason why she suffered. I chased her away, thinking it would be for the best. I have been selfish before, Kit. I can't continue being selfish just to be happy, because you know why? It would hurt me as much as it would hurt Joy.” he said to her. Kit turned her gaze away from him. “Kit, you have to open your eyes and see the reality. Calvin and Joy are happy now. Would you want to take that happiness away from them? I know I wouldn't. If her happiness means that I will not be part of her life anymore, then I am willing to make the sacrifice...” he said. Kit could only watch as he turned to leave again. “You know what the problem with you is, Jiro...” she said to him. “You would rather run away from everything rather than face them. You would rather give up than hold on.” Jiro paused and then faced her again. “You're wrong...” he said. “I've held on for something for a very long time... that I didn't notice that the most important thing have lost grip in my hand...”
--
Kit... like Jiro, she is the tree that Danson have held on for a long time. She is also the leaf that continued to hold on for her love for Calvin. Sometimes, I wonder who could be the strong wind that would take her away from the tree.
--
“Kit!” she heard someone call her. Kit looked back, and saw Calvin and Joy walking towards her. She forced a smile at them. “Hey...” she said. She looked at Calvin, and then she down, and saw him holding Joy's hand. Once again, she felt jealous at that sight. “We're going out for lunch. Want to join us?” Joy asked. She looked up at Joy and smiled. “Thanks, Joy... but I don't think that's a good idea...” she said. The two lovers gave her a confused look. “But why? We always do this...” Joy said. Kit smiled and then shook her head. “I don't want to be the third wheel. Besides, the two of you need more time together.” she said. “Are you sure you really don't want to have lunch with us?” Calvin asked. Kit shook her head. “Anyways, I'm not that hungry yet. And if I got hungry, I can pull Chun to the cafe later. Just go and enjoy your time alone together.” she sad. “Well, if we really can't force you to come...” Calvin said. He looked at Joy and then put his arm around her. They said goodbye to Kit, and then headed on their way.
Kit watched the two as they leave, and the she felt someone put an arm around her. “It's good to see that you are slowly accepting things as they are.” she looked to her side, and saw Chun. Kit smiled at him, and then looked at Calvin and Joy as they walked away. “As long as he is happy, I'll be happy as well.” she said. “And the paper crane girl?” Chun asked. Kit looked at him, and paused. “She... she will continue to do what she's doing... until she's able to move on. Until the day she gives up on Calvin...” she said in a low voice. “And until when is that day?” Chun asked her. Kit just shrugged her shoulder. “I don't know. But one thing's for sure... I have no plans of telling him that I am the paper crane girl.” she said. “I'm just a little worried about you, Kit... I'm scared of what will happen if he finds out that it's you...” “You don't have to worry about me. Besides, I don't think he have plans of searching for me again.” “But still, you should stop.” Kit looked up at him and smiled. Then, she nodded her head. “OK, I will stop. I will stop once I have given him the hundredth paper crane.” she said. Then, Chun gave her a curious look. “How many paper cranes have you given him already?” he asked. “I still have a long way to go until the hundredth paper crane.”
Then, she took Chun's arm away from her shoulder. “Anyway... I have to get going...” she said. “Where are you going?” Chun asked. Kit looked back at him. “I need find out something.” she said. Chun gave her another curious look. “Find out what?” he asked again. “It's a secret.” she said. Then, she walked away from him, but Chun followed her. “Wei... can you tell me? Where are you going, Kit?” he asked. Kit stopped and then looked at him again. “Aiyo, Chun... I told you it's a secret. Why do you keep on asking?” she asked. Chun sighed and then put his hands on his waist. “Because, everyone seems to be going someone. Calvin and Kit went on a date... Danson is not around... and Jiro cut classes again to go the beach.” he said, shaking his head. “Jiro cut classes to go to the beach?” she asked in disbelief. Chun nodded his head. “Weird... why would he go to the beach?” she asked again. Chun just shrugged his shoulder. “I don't know about him. He's been like that since he and Joy broke up. He's been going to that beach to talk to... wait... I forgot his name... I think he is the namesake of Ariel's grandpa...” Chun said as he scratched his chin to recall the name of the man whom Jiro usually visits at the beach. “Uncle Sam?” Kit said. Chun nodded his head. “Yeah, Sam. That's it. Weird though... how many Uncle Sams do live on a beach?” he said as he shook his head.
Kit laughed at what he said, and then it hit her. Beach. Uncle Sam. And the pink shell necklace that she saw on his car. The truth had finally dawned onto her. “Jiro is really Jay...” she mumbled under her breath. Then, she looked up at Chun. “Chun... I... I really have to go.” she said. Then she walked as fast as she could, leaving the confused Chun behind,
--
“Are you sure you really want to do this, Jiro?” Uncle Sam told the young man beside him. Jiro looked up at him and smiled. “I have to, Uncle Sam. It's about time for me to let go of the past so that I could start anew. I have hurt a lot of people because I kept on holding on to the past...” The old man patted him at the back, and smiled at him. “But somehow, fate usually have its tricks. Just when you have decided to give up, life will give you a reason to hold on.” he said to him. “Maybe one day, Tin and I will meet again... but for now... it's time to let her go...” he said. He knelt down, and then put the shell necklace on the water. He watched it as it was slowly taken away by the wave. “I only kept her waiting, ans I know that she got tired of waiting for me. I hope one day, she will forgive me for not keeping my promise.” he said. He stood up, and then sighed. Then, he looked at Uncle Sam and smiled. “Uncle Sam, thank you for listening to me. Thank you for lending me your ear, especially during the times that I needed it the most.” he said. Uncle Sam just nodded his head. “So what are you going to do now? You have lost the girl you love, and you have let go of the past. Do you have any plans of going after your girlfriend?” Uncle Sam asked. Jiro just shook his head. “I know that she is happy now. I have no plans of going after her. Maybe I'll enjoy my life first as a single guy.” he said. “Hao lah, hao lah... whatever it is that you will be doing next, I wish you the best, Jay. Would you like to come inside to have some coffee?” he offered. Jiro just smiled and shook his head. “I guess I'll linger here for a while then I'll go back to school.” he said. Uncle Sam smiled and nodded his head. “Hao lah, but if you changed my mind, just come inside my shop.” Jiro watched Uncle Sam as he walked towards his shop.
He was thankful that he was able to find him again. If it wouldn't be for Uncle Sam, he would have gone crazy. The past two months have been hard for him as well. He couldn't talk to his friends about the reason why he and Joy broke up, because he always thought that they would not understand him. He chose to let Joy go because he knew that he have hurt her enough. He broke up with Joy that night because he couldn't bear to see her cry because of him. He needed the space and time to forget his feelings for Tin, and as long as he is with Joy, it would be much harder for him. During those times, it was Uncle Sam who have listened to him and gave him advices. He was the one who made him realie his fault, and through him, he found the courage to let go of his past.
Jiro gazed into the ocean once again, and smiled. He took a deep breath, and as he exhaled. He felt that his heart was unburdened when he let go of the shell necklace. He doesn't know what the future holds for him, but he's sure that by the time he found a new love, he know he could love that girl whole-heartedly. Even though he have let go of the past, there is still a wish in his heart to see her once again.
--
Kit immediately got out of her car as soon as she reached the beach. She ran towards the shore., but she found it empty. “Jiro... where are you?” she thought. She walked towards the water, and then looked around again. She is just the only person around, and maybe she was too late. Maybe Jiro have already left. She began to walk. She doesn't want to lose hope. She just have to see Jiro now. “Jiro!” she called. She called his name several times, but no one seemed to have heard her. Kit sighed, as she is beginning to lose hope. As she looked down the ground. She saw the pink shell necklace. He knelt down, and then took it. “Jiro was here... Jay was here...” she thought. Why would Jay throw her necklace? She stood up, and then began to call him again. “Jay! Jay! Where are you?” she shouted. “Jay! Did you know how long I have waited for you? Why did you throw my necklace? Jay! Did you really forget our promise?” she shouted again.
At the other side of the beach, Jiro heard someone calling his name. He stood up from where he is seated, and began to look around. “Jay! Where are you? Are you going to make me wait for you again?” he heard someone shout. The voice seemed to familiar to him. He felt his heart beating fast as he listened to her call. “Tin...” he said to himself. Finally, after a long time, Tin came back into his life. Uncle Sam is right, just as he was about to give up, something or someone will come to give him a reason to hold on. He just hope that he is not yet too late, because Tin is not yet too late for him. She came just in time when he was about to let go of her. “Tin!” he shouted. “Tin! Where are you? I have waited for this day to see you again!” he shouted. Then, he heard her shout again. He ran, and followed where her voice is coming from.
Kit ran through the shore, following where Jiro's voice is. “Jay!” she called again. As she paused, he saw Jiro running towards him. As soon as Jiro saw Kit, he paused. He could not believe that Kit is Tin, the one that he was looking for all this time. “Tin...” he said in disbelief. How could he not know that Kit is Tin all this time? Kit looked at him, and then showed him the pink shell necklace in her hand. Jiro gasped as he saw the necklace with her. “Tin?” he said, walking towards her. “You... you have always kept this necklace...” she said as soon as he is in front of her. “But... but I don't understand why... why you still have this, and why you threw this necklace away...” she said. “I... I thought this is the only way I could let go of the past, but I was wrong...” he said to her. As he held her hands, he stared into her eyes. “I... I'm too late, am I?” she asked. Jiro smiled and shook her head. “No... you're just in time. Just in time before I let go...” he said. He gently caressed her cheeks, and she could see the tears in his eyes. “God knows I wanted to come back for you. God knows how guilty I am that I couldn't come back to keep my promise to you, Tin. It hurts me more.. because I've missed you too much. There are a lot of things I wanted to tell you... that I wanted to make you feel... but I couldn't...” he said to her. Kit just looked up at him, and she could also feel her tears. She have been waiting a long time for Jay, for him to come back. She never thought that he was with her all this time. He maybe too late, but he came back. He came back just in time when she's about to move on and forget her feelings for Calvin. “Now that I'm back.. will you give me that chance to make it up to you?” Jiro asked. Kit smiled and nodded her head. She reached for him and then touched his cheeks. Jiro smiled lovingly at her, and then held her hand that was touching him. Then, he leaned towards her, their eyes closed as their lips began to touch.
And the prince finally came back to the princess...
--
I never thought that the strong wind would be Jiro. He came back into Kit's life when she was about to let go, and he blew her away from her comfort zone, which is Calvin. The battered leaf have finally let go of the tree, and let the wind took her to a safe landing. Or so I thought...
Still, I wonder... who should be blamed when a leaf fell from a tree? Is it the wind that blew it away? Or the tree that let her go? Or is it the leaf who grew tired of holding on?

Waah keis... kaw na ngayon si hannah! =)
Ang baduy ng sentences ni calvin ah.. it is corny but romantic...=)
And there was no more reason for anything.”
“I love you with all of my heart, body, and soul. You complete me. You make my life worth living. To have known you and to have loved you has been the most beautiful dream. I can only hope that I never wake up.”
CHUN: "I have six friends. Theirs was a really complicated story. Thank God I am not involved in their story, but you see, when I see one of them being hurt, I could also feel their pain. " - buti na lang talaga andyan ka chun!

Kit gave him a confused look. “What do you mean?” she asked. Chun sighed as he faced her. “It's enough that you have fallen in love with your best friend. It doesn't help that of all people, you have to be Jiro's first love...” he said. Kit paused and then she lowered her head. Chun is right. She's making the situation a lot more complicated. “It is my fault...” she said in a low voice. “I... I didn't mean to ruin everything, especially Joy and Jiro's relationship...” Chun walked towards her, and then put his hand on her shoulder. “I am not blaming you for anything, Kit. It's just that, the situation is getting out of hand. You are the reason why Jiro broke up with Joy, because he have always loved you. He could not love Joy because of you. He thought he would make things better by breaking up with Joy, and then letting go of his past... but things isn't turning up the way it should be...” he said. Kit looked up at him. She doesn't know what to do next to make things right. “But tell me honestly, Kit...” she heard Chun say. “Do you really love Jiro?” -- “You said... it's about time for me to give other people a chance to love me...” -- It was sunset, and Jiro and Kit were still by the beach, seating at a long log with blanket over them. Beneath the blanket, Jiro have his arm around her, and Kit rested her head onto his shoulder. He looked at her and smiled, and then he planted a kiss on her cheek. He never thought that this day would finally come, that he would be able to hold Tin into his arms. He felt contented and happy now that Tin is with him. Kit looked up at Jiro, and then smiled at him. “What are you thinking, Jay?” she asked. “I'm thinking how lucky I am to find you again, Tin...” he said. He took a deep breath and then gazed into the sea. “Before, I thought we would never see each other again. I tried to forget you but I just can't. I thought I would be able to love another, in the same way that I have loved you, but I was wrong... because only you holds the key to my heart...” he said. Then, he looked at her again. “I loved you since that day that you saved me. I loved you the moment that I opened my eyes and saw your face. It saddened me when I had to leave you... and it hurt me most when I couldn't come back for you...” he whispered. Kit snuggled up close to him, and then smiled faintly. “I knew that moment when you smiled at me that I have found my prince... and I fell in love with that prince...” she said as she looked up at him. Jiro leaned to her, and kissed her lips again. “I... I'm not yet too late, am I?” he asked. Kit looked up at him, confused at his question. “Danson... you and him...” he said. Kit smiled and shook his head. “Danson is only a friend, Jay.” “But I know that he likes you...” Kit nodded her head. “He does.. but I can only see Danson as a friend.” she said. “But he is courting you, right?” Jiro asked. Kit nodded her head. “I told him from the start that I can only love him as a friend, and he understands that...” she said. Jiro sighed with relief as he pulled her close to him again. “I just don't want him to be mad at me... especially now that we're together...” he said. Kit just sighed at what he said. She thought, maybe Jiro came a little too late. She have fallen in love with her best friend, and have almost forgotten all about him. She knows in her heart that Jiro will always be the first guy she have fallen in love with. Maybe Jiro came just in time. Now that she have found him, she have decided to move on. Maybe God gave Jay back to him so that she wouldn't suffer anymore. Maybe God brought him back to her so that she could feel the love that she deserves. There is this little space in her heart for Jay, and she's willing to give him a chance to love her. But what scared her most, is the fact that she is the reason why Jiro broke up with Joy. Although she considers Joy as her rival, she is still her close friend. She doesn't know how she would react if she found out that she is Jiro's first love – the girl whom Jiro couldn't forget. “What are you thinking?” she heard Jiro asked. “I'm thinking of everything that could happen now...” she said. “Are you scared?” he asked. Kit slowly nodded her head. “I'm scared of what will happen tomorrow... what if we finally wake up and find that everything is just a dream? What if we realized that we don't love each other anymore?” she said. Jiro just gave her an assuring smile. “I am sure of what I feel for you, Tin. I am more sure that I love you more than anything else.” he said. “What... what about Joy?” she asked. Jiro paused, and then looked away from her. “She... she's with Calvin now...” he said. Kit glanced at him, and saw a faint smiled form onto his lips. “I can see that she is happy with him... so it's better that way.” he continued. Then, he looked at her and smiled. “I am with you now, Tin. This is all I ever wanted. You're all I ever wanted.” he said. Kit smiled at him, and then rest her head onto his shoulder again. At the back of her mind, she is still having second thoughts. Should she risk being with Jiro, even if it would hurt her friend? -- “I'll drive you home...” she heard Jiro sid as he walked her to her car. Kit looked at him, and then laughed. “What?” he asked. Confusion is registered in his face. “Jay, I brought my car. How can you drive me home?” she said. “Then... I'll follow you to your house. At least that way, I was able to drive you home.” he said. Kit smiled and then shook her head as she looked at him. “What?” he asked in a confused tone. She found him quite amusing, especially when he's all confused. “Nothing... I jut find you cute... and sweet...” she said. Jiro blushed at what she said, which made Kit more amused. “Awww...” he teased. Then, he walked over her, and the pinched her on the nose. Kit could only laugh at him. She smiled at him for a long time, and then she gave him a hug. “I... I'm going to miss you...” she said in a low voice. Jiro took a deep breath and hugged her tight. “I'm going to miss you tonight...” he said. Then, he released her and looked into her eyes. “Tin... I love you. Always remember that.” he said. Kit smiled and nodded his head. “I... I love you too, Jay...” she said. Then, she hugged him again. At the thought of their love, she suddenly became weak. She was once again filled with worry. “Tin...” she heard him say. Kit looked up at him. “I could feel something's bothering you...” he said. Kit slowly nodded her head. “A-about us...” she said. Jiro gave her a worried look. “Don't you want us to be together?” he asked. Kit smiled and shook her head. “It's not like that, Jay. I... I want us to be together but...” she paused and then looked up at him. “But what about Joy?” she asked. Jiro put his hands down, and then sighed as he looked up. “W-what about her?” he asked. “If Joy finds out that I am Tin... she... she might get mad...” she replied. She held his hand, and then looked into his eyes again. “Jay... she is my best friend's girlfriend... and I don't want to do anything that will make him mad at me. I hope you understand me, Jiro...” she said. Jiro sighed again and then nodded his head. He understands that her friendship with Calvin is very important to her. “I understand, Tin. So what do you suggest that we do?” he asked. “Would it be OK if we keep this thing first? Until we find a way to tell them about us...” she said. Jiro just nodded his head. “If you think it's for the best, then I agree.” he said. Kit smiled at him, and then gave him another hug. “Wait...” she heard Jiro say as he let go of her again. “Does this mean that I'm your boyfriend now, and you're my girlfriend now?” he asked. “That soon? Aren't you going to court me or something... to prove that you love me?” Kit asked. “I've waited 10 years for you, Tin. Do I have to woo you?” he asked. Kit folded her arms and pouted at him. “Wei... I'm not easy to get, Jiro Wang!” she said in an angry tone. Jiro just laughed at her reaction. He put his arms around her, and then held her tight. “Just say that you'll be mine, and I'll woo you for the rest of my life...” As he see the smile on her face, Jiro smiled and then kissed her on the cheek. -- “It's just that I'm getting worried. It's unlikely of her not to return my calls or even reply to me messages on MSN. I don't know if she's mad at me or something happened to her...” Danson said to Kit as they were walking through the hall. Ever since they met at school that morning, Danson has been talking nonstop about Hannah, being worried about her. “Maybe Hannah's just busy that's why she wasn't able to answer your call...” she said to him. Danson sighed and shook his head. “If she's busy, she would answer my call and tell me so. She would even leave an offline message saying she's busy. Kit... It's been almost two weeks and I haven't heard from her!” he said in a frustrated tone. Kit looked at him, confused at the way he was acting. “Did you ask Auntie Tan about Hannah?” she asked. Danson nodded his head. “She told me Hannah haven't called her as well.” “See, you're just being paranoid, Dan. Nothing to worry about...” “But still... I'm worried that something happened to her in Vienna, or it's something that I said the last time... God, if I haven't heard from her within the week, I swear I'll be on that plane going to Vienna...” Kit just laughed at Danson. She have never seen him worried this much, especially to her. She's already thinking that he have fallen for Hannah already. Not that she's jealous, but rather, she is happy if Danson finally realized his feelings for Hannah. Another reason why she can't give him a chance is because she could sense that Danson have already developed feelings for Hannah, and Hannah have fallen for him as well. The only thing that she hates about the two is that they are too stubborn to admit their feelings for one another, saying that they only see each others as friends although they are already too obvious. “What did you say to Hannah the last time that you talked to her?” she asked. “I told her that I...” Danson paused, hesitating to tell her their last conversation where he told Hannah that he have a crush on her, and made it look like a joke. “Hannah couldn't possibly take that seriously, right?” he thought. “What did you say to her?” Kit asked again. “I... I just asked her to find me a hot Austrian girlfriend. Then she got mad.” he said. After hearing what he said, Kit laughed at him, which made him more confused. “If I were Hannah, I would mad at you for saying those things.” she said. Danson threw another confused look at her, and then their conversation was interrupted by Chun shouting. “Kitty Cat! Dannie Boy!” Chun shouted at him. He was running towards them, and behind him, they saw Jiro following him. As Kit looked at his direction, Jiro smiled at her. She felt herself blushing as he smiled her way. “Chun, can you stop calling us petnames? It's so gay.” Danson said to Chun in an annoyed tone. “Wei, don't be mad, Dannie boy!” Chun said as he pinched his cheeks. Danson just became more irritated at him. “Hey, don't be annoyed now, Danson...” Kit said. Then, she looked at Chun and Jiro. “He's not in the mood because Hannah hasn't been returning his calls yet...” she explained to them. Before Chun could say anything, Danson glared at him. “Shut up.” he said. The three just laughed at him. “By the way, where are you guys going?” Jiro asked. “Library. We need to make some research for our assignment.” Danson said. “Great! Chun and I are going to the library too.” Jiro said, eying on Kit. Chun looked up at Jiro, confused at what he said. “Wei, I thought you'll treat me for some oyster omelet?” he asked. Jiro glared at Chun, but he smiled at him. “We are going to the library, remember? We have a research too...” Jiro said to him. Kit was trying her best not to laugh. She knows her boyfriend is just making an excuse so that he could spend more time with her. “Fine. We'll go with them at the library...” Chun said, pouting at him. Danson laughed at the way Chun reacted, then he looked at Jiro. “By the way, Jiro... welcome back.” he said. Jiro just smiled at him and nodded his head. Danson and Chun went on their way to the library, leaving Jiro and Kit behind. “You're making a lame excuse just to be with me.” Kit said, smiling at him. Jiro smiled at Kit, and put his arm around her. “Of course.” he said. “I won't let Danson be left alone with my girl...” he said as he looked at her. Kit was laughing hard at him. -- At the library... Kit was sitting beside Jiro. In front of them are Danson and Chun. As Kit was busy taking down notes, Jiro just kept on looking at her. Kit glanced at him for a while, and saw him smiling at her. Then, she slowly slid down her free hand, and as she let it down, Jiro secretly took her hand. Kit smiled as she glanced at him again. Then, she looked at Danson and Chun who were busily taking down notes. What Kit didn't know is that Chun noticed something different between the two. “There's something fishy going on between these two guys...” he thought. Then, he eyed on Danson, who is concentrating on taking down notes. He sighed as he took his pen, and as he was taking down notes, an evil idea came into his head. He smiled secretly, and then let his pen slid down the floor. He stood up from his seat, and then knelt down to get his pen. As he peeked under the table, he saw Jiro and Kit holding hands. Chun was surprised at what he saw. “What the...” he thought. He was confused as why would the two hold hands. “Are they together?” he thought again. He slowly stood up, and then went back to his seat. He observed the two, and he noticed the way Jiro looks at Kit. It's like they have this little secret, that they are too careful not to let them know what their secret is. But whatever their secret is, he already suspects what is it – Jiro and Kit are finally together. “Ummm... Kit...” he called. Kit looked up at him. “C-can you accompany me to the cafeteria. I need to buy something...” Chun said. Kit looked up at Jiro, and as he nodded his head, she turned to him. “OK.” she said. As soon as they left the library, Chun took Kit to an empty room. “Wei.. I thought you need to go to the cafeteria?” she asked. Chun turned to him, and then held her on her shoulder. “Tell me the truth, Kit... are you and Jiro together now?” he asked. Kit was surprised at his question, as she never thought that he would notice. She turned her gave away from him and then sighed. “Yes...” she said. Then, she heard Chun sigh. He was quite confused as to why Kit and Jiro got together. “Unless...” he thought. A thought have hit him. “Kit... are you Tin?” he asked again. This time, Kit nodded her head. -- “Do you think Kit is acting weird lately...” Calvin asked Joy, who was busy reading a book. Joy looked up at him, confused at what he said. “Is there something wrong?” she asked. Calvin just shrugged his shoulder. “I don't know. Lately, she doesn't go home on time. I can't even reach her on the phone. When I try to talk to her, it seems that she's always in a hurry.” Calvin said. “Maybe it's Danson. Maybe they are together now...” Joy said. But Calvin could only shake his head.. “Well, Danson seems as little frustrated lately. He easily gets pissed off... I don't think he and Kit got together...” “Maybe they had a fight...” “But I still see them hanging around. If they fought, I should not see them together. If they are together, Danson won't be in a bad mood.” Joy closed her book, and the looked up at Calvin and smiled. “If you want to know why, why don't you just confront the two. It's better that way that you wondering what happened between them.” she said. “How can I talk to Kit if she's always in a hurry.” he asked her. “Then corner her. You two are neighbors, you can always corner her if you want to.” he said. Calvin scratched his chin, then looked at Joy, smiling. “I know what to do now. I'm so lucky to have a smart girlfriend like you.” he said. Joy raised an eyebrow at him. “Wei, if I'm smart then I wouldn't have answered you...” she said. Calvin pouted at what she said, but Joy just laughed at him. Then, Calvin began to tickle her at her side. -- “I'll see you later.. I miss you too... I love you...” Kit said before ending the call. As she turned around, she saw Calvin standing by their gate. “Hey, Cal!” she said. Calvin waved at her and smiled. She rushed to the gate and opened it to let Calvin inside the house. “So what brings you here. Don't you have a date with Joy or something?” she asked. “Do I always have to be Joy all the time? Can't I hang out with my best friend once in a while?” he joked. Kit just laughed at what he said. “Wrong timing. I'll be going out in a while.” she said to him. Then, she walked back inside the house, and Calvin followed her. “Do you have a date?” he asked. Kit looked at him and nodded her head. “I have a date.” she said, smiling at him. “Oh... and who is this date? Is this Danson?” he asked again. Kit shook her head. “Someone. That you don't know.” she said. Calvin sighed and shook hi head. “Kit, you can't possibly go out with someone I don't know. What if something happened to you on your date?” “Nothing will happen, Cal. I trust this guy...” “But I don't!” Kit sighed as she crossed her arms. “Why do I have to seek your approval first before I go on a date. I have never done that to you, Cal...” she said. “I'm just concerned about you, Kit.” Kit wrinkled her forehead as she glared at him. “Concerned? Cal, I don't need your concern. I just want you to let me do the things I want to do, and be happy for me. And Cal, may I remind you that you are not my brother to act like this. If mom and dad allowed me to go out, why can't you?” she said. Calvin sighed as he listened to her. He doesn't even know for himself why he is acting this way. He's being too overprotective of Kit, because of what had happened before. “I... I just don't want you to be in trouble, Kit...” he said in a low voice. “Cal.. you have to accept that I can take care of myself. If I get in any trouble, it will all be my fault. You just have to trust me...” she said in a more calm tone. Calvin looked up at her, hurt at what she said. It seems to him that Kit doesn't need him anymore. “I trust that, Kit... then why can't you tell me who your date is?” he asked. Kit paused, and then looked away, unable to answer his question. She couldn't let Calvin know that her date is Jiro. “You... you'll know who he is in the future, Cal. Just... just don't ask anymore questions...” she said. She turned her back on him and then headed inside the house. “Is it Jay? Have you found Jay?” she heard Calvin asked. Kit paused again. Then, she turned to face him again. “Cal... what would you do if I said yes?” she asked. Calvin was surprised at her question. He swallowed hard, and as he opened his mouth to speak, it seems that words got stuck in hi throat. What if it is really Jay? He asked himself that question. All of a sudden, he became jealous at that thought. “What if I couldn't tell you that it's Jay because I know you won't approve of him?” Kit asked again. “That guy...” he said. “He left you ten years ago and kept you waiting. Why are you giving him a chance to be with you?” Calvin asked. Kit walked towards him and then looked into his eyes. She could see how mad he is, and she wanted to think he is mad because he is jealous of Jay. “Because, Calvin...” she said. “everyone deserves a chance to be loved by someone.” Kit looked down and held his hand. “I just don't want you to be hurt again, Kit. I've seen you at your worse. I've seen you cry because of Jay. I can't bear seeing you cry again because of him.” he said in a low voice. Kit looked up at him. She shook at her and smiled at him. “I've been hurt before, and I'm stronger now. Besides... you will always be there for me, right?” she said. Calvin smiled and nodded his head. “Well... whoever this guy is. If he is Jay, I hope he would take care of you... or else...” he said. Kit nodded her head. Then, Calvin held her cheeks, and then gave her a kiss on the forehead. He looked at her and smiled. “Good luck on your date...” he said. As he turned to leave, his steps became more heavy. As heavy as the feeling he have in his heart. He doesn't know why, but it seems that he is scared, and that he is bound to lose Kit. He know he should be happy for her, because she found someone to love, but he can't help but be jealous. -- Jiro looked at his watch as he waited for Kit. He stood in front of the amusement park, and he looked around for any sings of her. “Jay!” he heard someone call him. Jiro smiled to himself, and then as he turned around, he saw Kit walking towards him. “Tin...” he said. He smiled at her as soon as she is beside her. “Did I made you wait?” she asked. Jiro shook his head. “You're worth the wait...” he said. He put his arm around her, and then gazed at the park's entrance. “This is our first official date...” he said. Then, he looked at her. “If only I knew that you were Tin during your birthday, I wouldn't have let you spend you birthday alone here, waiting for Calvin...” he said. “Wei... it's already in the past, and I have forgiven Calvin for that.” she said. Jiro looked at her and then held her hand. “Still, I missed another chance to be with you that time. When I found you in the rain that day, you were feverish and kept on calling Calvin, asking him not to leave. And then I heard you call my name. I should have known that moment that you were the one I was looking for...” he said. “Aiyo, stop reminiscing the past, Jay. What matters most now is that we have each other, right?” she said. Jiro smiled and nodded his head. “So...” he said. “shall we start our date?” Kit smiled and nodded her head. Together, they walked inside the amusement park. The first rode the roller coaster. All throughout the ride, Jiro held Kit's hand, thinking that she was scared. After that two-minute ride, he was surprised to see Kit have enjoyed it, while the ride scared the hell out of him. Kit smiled at him, and then she laughed at his scared expression. “This is fun! Let's do this again!” she said. Jiro gave her a bewildered look, and kit just laughed at him. “Just kidding, let's go and pick another ride.” she said. Next, they rode the horror train. This time, Kit got scared, and she held on to Jiro and buried her face so as not to see the scary mannequins that were popping up along the way. Jiro took advantage of her being scared, and held her as close to him as possible. “Wei... you're taking advantage of me!” Kit said as the rided ended,. She frowned at him, and hit his arm. Jiro just laughed at her. “You should have seen your face a while ago. You were as pale as the ghost back there.” he said. “Then you should've seen how scared you were at the roller coaster.” she said. She folded her arms, and acted as if she was mad at him. Jiro smiled and then, he began to tickle her sides. After a while, Kit couldn't help but smile at him. “Aiyo, don't be mad at me anymore. Promise, I won't take advantage of you being scared anymore...” he said. Kit looked at him and smiled. “That's too bad...” she said, then she winked at him. She walked away, leaving the stunned Jiro behind. They rode the 'Anchor's Away', Vortex, and Jungle log, before they realized that both of them were starving already. “What do you want to eat?” Jiro asked her. Kit looked at the food stalls, and then shrugged her shoulder. “I don't know... what do you want to eat?” she asked. “Cotton candy?” he said. Kit burst out laughing upon hearing his answer. “Cotton candy? And I thought you're starving?” she said. “I'm on a diet.” he said. Kit just laughed at him. And so, they bought a big cotton candy and shared it. Kit fooled around by getting a small piece from the cotton candy and then stuck it on Jiro's face. Jiro tried to get back at her by trying to stick a piece of the cotton candy on her face as well. After finishing the cotton candy, they realized that they are still hungry, so they bought a hotdog sandwich on one of the stalls. “So where do you want to ride next?” Jiro asked as they were strolling. “Roller coaster again?” Kit suggested. Jiro gave her a hesitating look. “Again?” he asked. Kit just laughed at his reaction. She knows that her boyfriend doesn't want to ride the roller coaster again as it scared him to death. “Just kidding...” she said. Jiro held her hand as they walked, then she looked up at him. “How about something safe, like the ferris wheel?” he said. Kit smiled and nodded her head. And so, they found the ferris wheel, and they rode on it. As it moved towards the top, they looked outside and enjoyed the view. “Wow... you really can see the whole Taipei from here...” Kit said in amazement. “It's too pretty up here...” she said. She was mesmerized by the view from the top. Little did she know, Jiro was staring at her the whole time. “Yep. Really pretty...” he said as he stared at her. Kit looked back at him, and found him gazing lovingly at her. “Really pretty?” she asked. Jiro nodded his head and smiled at her. “Very pretty.” he said. Then, they stopped, and they were on the very top of the ferris wheel. Jiro put his arm around her, and then he moved closer to her face. As he gets too close, Kit closed her eyes. She could feel his heavy breathing as she anticipated her his kiss. She felt Jiro lift up her chin, and he moved closer, too close that she could already feel his heart beating. And then, it happened. Their lips met, and he kissed her for what seemed to be forever. Kit responded to to his kiss, then she felt his arm enclosed her into his body. She felt his lips parted against hers, she opened her eyes and saw Jiro staring into her eyes again. He moved closer to her, and kissed her lips lightly. Then, he smiled at her. “I love you...” he whispered to her. Kit smiled at him lovingly. “I love you too...” she said. As Jiro reached for her for another kiss, they felt the ferris wheel moving down. They looked at each other, and then laughed. They both sat up straight as they waited for their turn to get down from the ride. As they were waiting to get off, Jiro held Kit's hand, and then he smiled at her. “This time...” he said to her. “I will never leave you...” -- “Do you love Jiro?” she heard Chun ask her again. “He makes me happy. His kisses takes away all of my fears and worries. As long as I'm with him, nothing really matters...” Kit said. Chun shook his heat at her. “Kit, you're not answering my question...” he said. “Do you love Jiro, or do you still love Calvin despite everything?” he asked again. This time, Kit looked up at him and nodded her head. “Yes...” she said. “I love Jiro...” -- “I believe you...” she heard Chun say. “I just hope that you're not lying.” -------------edited------------------ A/N mukhang ilang chapters na lang ang ilalagi nitong fan fic na ito at matatapos na sya (sabay sabay: aawwwwwwwwwww) pero sabi ko nga may sequel and prequel itong story na ito so don't be sad na... sana lang by chapter 50 tapos na to... mukhang pahaba nang pahaba eh...
